647 | Indian Railways News / Personal vendetta behind planting of pipe bombon : Aug 25, 2012 - 21:00:36 PM |
Personal grudge triggered the alarming incident in which pipe bombs were detected near railway tracks at Velloor, the joint investigation launched by state police and crime branch reveals. The investigation confirms that a 37-year old man named Senthil Kumar planted the bomb near the railway track. According to the police,Senthil Kumar,a KSRTC driver who resides at Azhakath house in Veliyanadu near Mulanthuruthy, planted the pipe bombs and engraved the name of K J Thomas of Nirappel house, Edakkattuvayal, with whom he nurtured personal enmity, in a bid to distract the investigation towards him. The investigation team has launched a combing operation to nab Senthil. Tracing his mobile phone signals the police found that Senthil has got away to Coimbatore. Meanwhile, The investigation team has taken Thomas into custody. The team led by Pala DySP M Rameshkumar and Crime Branch Circle Inspector Biju K Stephen, raided Senthil’s house and found the parts of the clock reportedly used as the timer of the bomb and pieces of PVC pipes similar to those in which detonators were carried. Besides, they discovered a hand glove and a shirt with paint drips which bore similarities to the incident. Police have taken these items into custody for detailed examination. Police also suspect that some external forces could have helped Senthil to set in the bomb, as the mechanism used was highly sophisticated. “The connection to the circuit was misplaced in the tiffin box which averted a mishap. Moreover, the content of the ammonium nitrate was very low, and was not enough for causing a major accident. ” said Crime Branch Circle Inspector Biju K Stephan. |

648 | Indian Railways News / ‘Pipe bomb in Kerala rail track planted for experimental blast’on : Aug 25, 2012 - 21:00:46 PM |
Those who planted the pipe bomb near Railway track at Velloor near Kottayam were trying to conduct an experimental blast and subsequently trigger panic among people, sources close to police told Express. Police suspect that the primary motive of the perpetrators was to spread panic rather than conducting blasts. The pipe bomb was unearthed adjacent to Railway track at Velloor near Kottayam on Thursday. “The bomb was found one and half meter away from the railway track. If the perpetrators wanted to make a blast, they would have put it on the track itself. Besides, they did not set the connections properly. Moreover, the explosives discovered could not have made much damage to trains” said C Rajagopal, superintendent of police.Police do not rule out the possibility of a connection between the incident to the explosion occurred at Ernakulam district collectorate in July 2009, as both the incidents have several palpable similarities. However, only detailed chemical examinations can verify this possibility. “This is a very serious incident and we need a thorough investigation to bring out the truth. We suspect the role of subversive elements behind this incident. However, we can not say anything as of now, without getting the results of chemical analysis” says Rajagopal. Meanwhile, some higher officials in the police told express that the incidents prima facie look similar since PVC pipes were used in both the cases. The team members who first investigated Ernakulam Collectorate blast had also visited the place. |

Panipat: The lawyer who fought the battle of the kin of the Pakistani victims in the Samjhauta bomb blast to get their visa to visit India for pursuing their case for compensation is upset over the “non responsive and indifferent” attitude of High Commission of Pakistan in India.Advocate Momin Malik said that he had sent letters to the Pak High Commission twice in 2011 seeking information on the pending claims of the relatives of the victims. There has been no response inspite of 41 reminders sent by him, he said.Hapless relatives of victims of the bomb blast that occurred in Samjhauta Express at Diwana Station (Panipat) on February 18, 2007, have been running from pillar to post for compensation. Even after the Indian government cleared their case to visit India, the Pak High Commission has not shown any concern.Malik had asked the Pak High Commission to inform whether the Government of India has announced compensation to the next of kin or has it said that the compensation would be paid in accordance with railway laws.“I have sought this information so that the matter can be taken up in the High court but there is no response at all,” Malik said.“In view of non-cooperative attitude of the Pak High Commission towards its own nationals, I would now write to Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani for their intervention,” he said. |
