Srinagar: The Railways in Kashmir is contemplating to arrange more trains to reduce the rush of passengers during the festival days.The rail service is a big hit among the people, especially during the Eid festivity as other mode of public transport is usually not available across the Valley.“To cater to the rush for three days after the Eid, we have sent a proposal to the Divisional Headquarters of Northern Railways, Ferozepur Division, for additional services,” said the railway official at Budgam.“We are waiting for their approval and once we get the nod, which we expect any time now, we will be able to run two more trains between Qazigund in south Kashmir and Baramulla in north Kashmir,” he said.The proposal to increase the number of trains was mooted in view of the past experience when the Railways officials and the GRP had to face tough time during the Eid-ul-Fitre festivity in August when many trains were damaged as the passengers could not get seats in the trains.Chief Area Manger, Budgam Northern Railways, AK Sharma said: “All the necessary arrangements had been made for smooth service during the Eid. All the trains will run on schedule and all necessary arrangements are in place for the smooth service.”A total of 10 trains will ply between Qazigund and Baramulla and the first train starts in the morning from south Kashmir’s Qazigund station to Srinagar and another leaves central Kashmir’s Budgam station for Baramulla station in north Kashmir. According to railway officials, as many as 7,000 passengers travel every day during the autumn season. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had inaugurated the Valley's first phase of rail service between Anantnag and Budgam district on October 11, 2008.The second phase of the train between Budgam and Baramulla was flagged off by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on February 14, 2009, followed by the  third phase between Anantnag to Qazigund by the Prime Minister on October 28, 2009.

Bhubaneswar: in view to avoid rush in regular trains during Puja Holidays, Railways have decided to extend running of special trains towards Chennai and Sai Nagar Shirdi from Visakhapatnam.  Visakhapatnam-Chennai-Visakhapatnam weekly Special train will leave Visakhapatnam at 19.20 hours on every Monday between November 5 to  November 122 and will arrive at Chennai Central at 08.55 hours on the next days. In the return direction, this train will leave Chennai at 21.10 hours on every Tuesday between November 6 to November 13 and will arrive at Visakhapatnam at 10.25 hours on the following days. This train will have One AC-2 tier, One AC-3 tier, Seven Sleeper Class, Four General Second Class and Two Guard cum Luggage Vans in its composition having stoppages at Duvvada, Anakapalli, Tuni, Samalkot, Rajahmundry, Elluru, Vijayawada, Ongole, Nellore and Gudur between Visakhapatnam and Chennai Central. Similarly Visakhapatnam-Sai Nagar Shirdi- Visakhapatnam weekly Special train will leave Visakhapatnam at 09.10 hours on every Thursday between November 1 to  November 8 and will arrive at Sai Nagar Shirdi at 12.15 hours on the next days. In the return direction, this train will leaveSai Nagar Shirdi at 19.10 hours on every Friday between November 2 to November 9 and will arrive at Visakhapatnam at 22.20 hours on the following days. This train will have One AC-2 tier, One AC-3 tier, Seven Sleeper Class, Four General Second Class and Two Guard cum Luggage Vans in its composition having stoppages at Duvvada, Anakapalli, Samalkot, Rajahmundry, Eluru, Vijayawada, Khammam, Warangal, Kazipet, Secunderabad, Kamareddi, Nizamabad, Nanded, Purna, Parbhani, Jalna, Aurangabad, Nagarsol, Manmad and Kopargaon between Visakhapatnam and Sai Nagar Shirdi, according to a release issued by the East Coast Railway.

Plans stir against further bifurcation of Palakkad division.
The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) will launch mass agitations demanding that the Railways start work on the rail coach factory at Kanjikode for which foundation stone was laid eight months ago.

‘In six months’

At that function, it was announced that the work on the coach factory would begin within six months, by floating global tenders, DYFI president M.B. Rajesh, MP, told mediapersons here on Saturday.

Mr. Rajesh said that the foundation stone was laid without even finalising a joint venture partner for the project, which was in the public-private participation mode.

Election gimmick

That was a political stunt by the State government which was facing a by-election at Piravom then, he said. But after winning the election, the government seemed to have lost interest in the coach factory, Mr. Rajesh alleged.

Protest

He said that the DYFI would also launch a mass stir against the move to bifurcate Palakkad Railway Division again for creating a new Mangalore division.

The division was bifurcated a few years ago to create Salem division. This affected the income of the division drastically, he said, adding that the Palakkad division would not survive another bifurcation.

Anti-secular

On the Devaswom Bill, Mr. Rajesh said that the government’s move to give voting rights only to the believers in Hindu community was anti-democratic and anti-secular.

Such a move would only help the polarisation of people on communal lines, he said.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a prime suspect in the Railway recruitment racket that robbed thousands of jobless youth across the country of crores of rupees.

Ram Singh alias Ramnathuni Singh (53), who hails from Bihar and is settled in New Delhi, was arrested by a special team of the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch here, sources in the agency said.

Investigators said that Singh, along with his associate Navin Kumar, an absconding accused, was producing a Bollywood movie with the booty. Besides they had invested in real estate and held shares in benami names.

Singh played a crucial role in designing and developing the fake Railway recruitment website and appointed agents in many States to lure unemployed youth.

Promising jobs in the Group C category, they collected Rs. 6 lakh to 8 lakh from each candidate and sent fake appointment letters.

Their modus operandi was to send the selected candidates to Kolkata where they would undergo medical examination at the Railway Hospital.

“The trainees would be given a medical fitness certificate and then sent to the Howrah railway station to check the punctuality of trains as part of a training module. The entire process was only a gimmick and the accused took the help of some officials of Eastern Railway … it was only when the candidates went to join duty at different Railway establishments that they realised the fraud,” an investigator said.Special teams are on the lookout now for Navin Vinod and Mishra who were key players in the scam.

Even as the CBI exposed the racket, the fraud continued in a number of States, including Odisha, Bihar, Maharashtra and Delhi.

Singh was produced in a court here and lodged in the Puzhal Central Jail, according to CBI sources.

A newborn girl child was found abandoned at the Taraori railway station on Saturday morning.After spotting the child, officials of the government railway police (GRP) took her to a local trauma centre where she is under treatment for hypothermia or abnormally low bodytemperature. Sources said a woman had first noticed the child lying in a pit near a railway track and alerted station master RP Kalyan.When no one came forward to take custody of the child, the railway station officials informed the GRP.Dr Nidhi, pediatrician looking after the child at the trauma centre, said the child was less than 24-hour old and was suffering from severe cold. Her weight was reported at 2.4 kg and her condition had improved by the evening.

Meanwhile, civil surgeon Dr Shiv Kumar said the health department had started investigating all cases of pregnancies where a child was delivered in the past 24 to 48 hours.

"It may also happen that the child was born in some other district but was dumped at Taraori. But, I have asked the department to check records of deliveries registered in the past two days in the district," he said.
