To push Digital India initiative, Indian Railways will introduce paperless mobile ticketing system in its premium trains. This initiative will kick off from July 1 in which passengers of Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express will not be given ticket in printed format. As it is believed that every passenger travelling in Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains carries mobile phone therefore tickets will be sent directly on their phones. On a daily basis more than 2 crore passengers travel through Indian railways and out of total tickets sold 94% tickets are unreserved ones. Indian railway will slowly convert every ticket into paperless or e-ticket. IRCTC’s move to enable unreserved tickets via mobile wallets will compliment this digital mission and is believed to enable a solid foundation for cashless economy. In Egmore and Tambram suburban section in Chennai, a pilot project of paperless unreserved ticketing system is currently being carried out. |
