The urban development department has mooted introduction of Metro rail facilities in twin cities. The cost of a Metro underground is estimated at Rs400 crore per kilometer while a 40-km railway line would be required to provide connectivity between the two cities.Meanwhile, principal secretary, housing & urban development Injeti Srinivas has written to the Secretary of the ministry of urban development to approve a proposal to carry out a detailed feasibility study and provide fund of at least 50 per cent of the cost for the study.Though there are various options under the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS), Metro Rail is preferred by the cities as this is the ideal choice for intra-city transport, said a senior official in the housing and urban development department said.Experts have suggested that the route should run from the Biju Patnaik Airport to Cuttack via Nandankanan, Trisulia and Barang, which would serve as an ideal Metro link between the twin cities.The five urban centres like Khurda, Jatni, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Choudwar and the adjoining rural hinterland comprise the BCUC. The state government is making efforts to transform the BCUC as ‘Fast Mover’ leading destination in terms of investment with world-class infrastructure and quality life. It is essential to upgrade the BCUC to the status of a State Capital Region (SCR) on the lines of the National Capital Region (NCR).

The Urban Transport for the Twelfth Five-Year Plan has recommended Rs1.30 lakh crore for Metro Rail projects in 19 cities, except Bhubaneswar.

The preliminary inquiry report into the derailment on April 10 of the Train No. 15228 Muzaffarpur-Yesvantpur Express will be submitted to the Railway Ministry within a month, S. K. Mittal, Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, Bangalore, said on Monday.

One person was killed on the spot and 33 passengers injured in the accident that took place near the Chitheri– Mahendrawadi stations in the Arakkonam–Katpadi section of Chennai Division at around 5.50 a.m., approximately an hour and a half after the train left Chennai Central for Yesvantpur in Bangalore.

Mr. Mittal, who began his two-day statutory probe at the conference hall of the Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai, told reporters that the final report would be submitted in the stipulated six months as evidence gathered from the derailed coaches and the track at the site of the mishap as well as oral/written depositions had to be correlated to arrive at the cause.

The evidence collected from the Chitheri site included the extent and type of damage to the wheels, the coach position, the damage to the track as well as the stretch of about 300-400 metres immediately preceding the derailment spot.

The Commission on Monday began recording depositions from about 40 Railway employees across mechanical, electrical and safety and operations divisions as well as those from the public.

Among those who turned up to submit their depositions were maintenance personnel from Bihar, a TTE who took over duty in the AC-I coach from Chennai Central and gangmen attached to Southern Railway.

Frequent accidents to be looked into

When it was pointed out to Mr. Mittal that the Arakkonam-Chitheri-Katpadi was frequently witnessing accidents – in September 2011 a Chennai Beach-Vellore MEMU had rammed a stationary Arakkonam–Vellore passenger killing 10, while before that the derailment of 22 tankers of a goods train had disrupted services on the route – the Commissioner said that will also have to be looked into.

Southern Railway on Monday celebrated the 122nd birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar with various programmes.

Rakesh Misra, General Manager, Southern Railway, led the floral tributes at a function held to mark the occasion. Latha Priyakumar, Member, National Commission for Scheduled Castes, who was chief guest, presented prizes to employees and wards who had won essay and quiz contests.

CHENNAI: In the event of a medical emergency, passengers will no longer have to wait for an ambulance and waste time as the vehicle makes its way through the crowded roads outside Chennai Central.

The railway station now has a round-the-clock emergency medical centre, with an ambulance on standby, at which passengers will be treated free of cost.

The railways opened the facility, the first of its kind in the south, on Monday. SRM Institute of Medical Sciences, Vadapalani, selected by tender, set up the three-bed centre at a cost of `70 lakh.

The Madras high court last December rapped Southern Railway for not allocating space for a medical centre despite Chennai Central being the biggest railway station in the city, with around four lakh passengers using it every day. The court had directed Southern railways to establish "as expeditiously as possibly, preferably within three months".

The centre will have three beds, two doctors on duty and another on standby, four nurses, a paramedic team and a 24/7 ambulance, said Dr Siddhartha Ghosh, CEO, SRM Institute of Medical Sciences. "It is equipped with oxygen cylinders and ECG, defibrillator and resuscitation equipment," he said. The centre will treat passengers in emergencies, including those with cardiac problems and asthma-related respiratory difficulties. The ambulance will take patients who need further attention to the nearest hospital. "This will be the first emergency medical centre at a railway station to have an ambulance on the ready round the clock," Ghosh said.

"The emergency medical centre will be useful because we have an average of two medical emergencies a day," said S Govindasamy, station manager, Central. "We earlier took ill passengers to Government General Hospital across the road. But the ambulance took nearly an hour to reach the railway station."

Railways will soon float a tender to set up a pharmacy at the station. Southern Railway chief public relations officer V JAccamma said there were no immediate plans to set up similar facilities at other stations.

"Tenders will be floated and medical centres will be set up based on the success of the facility at Central," she said.

धनबाद: रविवार से धनबाद में रूट रिले इंटरलॉकिंग का काम शुरू हो गया. लीवर सिस्टम से प्वाइंट बदलने का काम पहले दिन ही बंद कर दिया गया. सभी को मोटर व मैनुअल सिस्टम से जोड़ कर चलाया जा रहा है. केबिन से प्वाइंट का संपर्क अलग हो गया.
इसकी वजह से सावधानी बरतते हुए राजधानी समेत अन्य ट्रेनों को 30 किमी/घंटा की रफ्तार की बजाय 15 किमी/घंटा की रफ्तार से चलाया जा रहा है. होम सिग्नल से स्टेशन तक सभी ट्रेनें 15 की रफ्तार से चली. रेलवे के अनुसार पहले दिन कई ट्रेनें विलंब से धनबाद पहुंची.
इसमें सियालदह-नयी दिल्ली राजधानी 20:20 के बजाय 20:50 बजे, एलेप्पी-धनबाद 13:15 के बजाय 15:25 बजे, हावड़ा-नयी दिल्ली पूर्वा 11:58 के बजाय 12:30 बजे, वैद्यनाथधाम-हटिया 08:25 के बजाय 09:10 बजे, जम्मूतवी-कोलकाता 10:23 के बजाय 11:06 बजे, गया-आसनसोल इएमयू 09:45 के बजाय 10:48 बजे, दरभंगा-हैदराबाद 16:00 के बजाय 17:30 बजे व आसनसोल-गया इएमयू 15:30 के बजाय 17:05 बजे पहुंची. वहीं धनबाद-एलेप्पी एक्सप्रेस धनबाद से 10:50 के बजाय 12:25 बजे खुली. सुबह छह से शाम छह बजे तक आरआरआइ वर्क के दौरान 106 में 42 प्वाइंट बनाया गया. 146 में 25 ट्रैक सर्किट और 108 में 16 सिग्नल का वर्क पूरा हो गया. अनुमान है कि एक सप्ताह के भीतर रूट रिले इंटरलॉकिंग का काम पूरा हो जायेगा. हालांकि यार्ड मास्टर केबिन होम सिग्नल फेल होने से आसनसोल की ओर से धनबाद आने वाली कुछ ट्रेनें वहीं खड़ी हो गयी. जिससे मैनुअल सिस्टम से चलाने में दिक्कत हुई. रविवार को अधिकांश ट्रेनें प्लेटफॉर्म बदल कर चलायी गयी. वाया गोमो होकर चलने वाली ट्रेनों को भी एक-दो व तीन नंबर प्लेटफॉर्म से चलाया गया. चार-पांच व छह-सात नंबर प्लेटफॉर्म से दिन भर में दो ट्रेन चली. दस जोड़ी ट्रेन रद्द व कई के डायवर्ट होने से स्टेशन पर काफी कम यात्री नजर आये.

इंदौर। इंदौर-भोपाल-हबीबगंज डबल डेकर ट्रेन शनिवार को पहली बार इंदौर पहुंची। ट्रेन को प्लेटफॉर्म तीन पर लिया गया। इसके स्वागत के लिए कई लोग मौजूद थे। प्लेटफॉर्म के शेड (सीमेंट की चद्दरें) कोच से टकराकर तीन-चार जगह से टूटकर गिर पड़े। रेलवे अधिकारी इसे देख सकते में आ गए लेकिन बाद में इसे सामान्य बताते हुए ट्रायल को सफल घोषित कर दिया। कोच को भी कोई नुकसान नहीं पहुंचा। प्लेटफॉर्म के घुमावदार होने से कोच शेड से टकराए थे।

ट्रेन शनिवार सुबह 6 बजे भोपाल से निकली। मक्सी-देवास होते हुए सुबह 10.10 बजे (तय समय से आधे घंटे लेट) इंदौर पहुंची। नए और आकर्षक रैक के साथ प्लेटफॉर्म-तीन पर खड़ी ट्रेन आकर्षण का केंद्र रही। सुबह 11 बजे ट्रेन पुन: (व्हाया देवास-उज्जैन) भोपाल के लिए रवाना हो गई। अधिकारियों के अनुसार यह ट्रेन नियमित रूप से जल्द चलेगी। कोच में रखी बोरियां : एक कोच में रेत से भरी बोरियां भी रखी गईं, यह इसलिए ताकि गाड़ी चलते समय वजन से शॉक-अप आदि की जांच हो जाए।

डबल डेकर ट्रेन को लेकर लोगों में खासी उत्सुकता थी। इसे देखने के लिए पहुंचे लोगों में बच्चे भी शामिल थे। सुबह 9.15 बजे से पांच वर्षीय रौनक, सात वर्षीय लक्की और तीन वर्षीय प्रियांशी पिता मनोहर पंवार के साथ स्टेशन आ गए। ट्रेन के इंदौर पहुंचने पर बच्चों ने तालियों से स्वागत किया। बड़ों ने कहा- वाह, इतनी शानदार ट्रेन। लोगों ने कोच के हर हिस्से को देखा। कभी सीट पर बैठे तो कभी फोटो खिंचवाए। इस बीच बीना-रतलाम पैसेंजर ट्रेन प्लेटफॉर्म-चार पर आ गई। इसके यात्री भी सीधे डबल डेकर ट्रेन देखने पहुंच गए।

100 की स्पीड में चलाई

जूनियर इंजीनियर गोपालसिंह (मुंबई) ने कहा- रास्तेभर ट्रेन की स्पीड की जांच की गई। ट्रेन को अधिकांश जगह 100 किमी प्रति घंटे की रफ्तार पर चलाकर देखा। इसमें कोई दिक्कत नहीं आई। मक्सी से देवास के बीच 75 की स्पीड पर चलाई गई। स्पीड ट्रायल पूरी तरह सफल रहा।

At last the Railways have lent ears to the pleas of the people. They have started sketching out plans for the revival of the Old Railway Station near the High Court. Thiruvananthapuram Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Agarwal said that the station will be developed into a terminating hub of the Railways in Ernakulam. “Six platforms will function at the station. We hope to make it the terminus for MEMU trains arriving and departing to Thrissur and the Northern regions. A platform will be exclusively set aside for MEMU trains,” Rajesh Agarwal said. He said the railway line near the Tata building will be doubled to ensure more rail capacity. “The station needs a major revamp. Steps are being taken at the Central level in this regard. A `100-crore proposal for renovation of the station was made to the Centre last week. Besides, three pit lines at the station will be constructed and the old railway tracks renovated. However, the DRM admitted that the station won’t be able to  cater to the MEMU services of Kottayam or Alappuzha.

 Meanwhile, Mayor Tony Chammany and Hibi Eden MLA has asked the Railways to inform the Corporation prior to the eviction of the 20 families living at the Old railway station premises. “As per the interim order of the Court the evictees should be properly rehabilitated. We need time for the rehabilitation process and hence the Railways should give us prior notice,” the Mayor said.

 A joint inspection of the area will be held soon.

भोपाल। भोपाल रेलवे स्टेशन पर बनाए गए नए ड्राइव इन प्लेटफार्म और बीना-भोपाल मेमू ट्रेन की शुरुआत रेल मंत्री पवन बंसल के स्थान पर अब लोकसभा में नेता प्रतिपक्ष सुषमा स्वराज करेंगी। वहीं, हबीबगंज-इंदौर सुपरफास्ट एसी डबल डेकर ट्रेन फिलहाल नहीं चल सकेगी। इसे आगामी कुछ दिनों बाद कमिश्नर रेलवे सेफ्टी की मंजूरी मिलने के बाद हरी झंडी मिल पाएगी।


बड़ौदा के शेड से मेमू ट्रेन का रैक मंगवाकर सुषमा स्वराज के हाथों हरी झंडी दिखवा दी जाएगी। इस कार्यक्रम की अध्यक्षता मुख्यमंत्री शिवराज सिंह चौहान करेंगे। डीआरएम राजीव चौधरी ने इस सिलसिले में सोमवार को दोपहर में फिर छठवें प्लेटफार्म पर पहुंचकर तैयारियों का जायजा लिया। रेल मंडल के जनसंपर्क अधिकारी केके दुबे ने बताया कि कार्यक्रम में कोई फेरबदल नहीं किया गया है। अभी छठवें प्लेटफार्म के साथ मेमू ट्रेन की उद्घाटन सेवा के माध्यम से दो सौगातें भोपाल के निवासियों को एक साथ दे दी जाएंगी।


डबल डेकर में हो सकती है देरी: बताया जाता है कि कमिश्नर रेलवे सेफ्टी के यहां से डबल डेकर ट्रेन के ट्रॉयल के बाद गाड़ी चलाने की मंजूरी में दो-तीन दिन लग सकते हैं। इसलिए फिलहाल डबल डेकर के लिए राजधानी के लोगों को कुछ इंतजार करना पड़ सकता है।


टूटफूट से आई परेशानी: डबल डेकर ट्रेन की ट्रॉयल के दौरान हबीबगंज से इंदौर स्टेशन तक के प्लेटफार्म शेड टूटने का असर सीआरएस रिपोर्ट पर पड़ सकता है। इसलिए रेलवे प्रशासन डबल डेकर को चलाने से पहले अब तैयारियों पर जोर दे रहा है।
