Chandigarh: Chaos became the order of the day at the Chandigarh railway station as more than 8,000 candidates appeared for the Railway Recruitment Board exam today.Candidates turned up in large numbers to take the PGIMER's entrance exam for paramedical courses.A special Chandigarh-Ambala introduced to tackle the rush failed to serve the purpose as the situation went out of control when the train was about to depart at 3.30 pm.The counters were flooded with candidates. Passengers had it the toughest. Things went from bad to worse when staff at the counter took a break.Senior citizens and women had a tough time buying the tickets. Some were even pushed by the candidates.Ditto was the situation on the platforms as the students were in haste to board the train that was scheduled to leave at 3.35 pm."Thousands of aspirants come to the city to take one or the other exam on Sundays. It becomes difficult for the elderly and women to travel by trains on these days. Sometimes, the staff at the ticket counters do not give us tickets on time and we are made to wait for hours," said 75-year-old Sada Ram.

The train services continued to run partially in Kashmir for the eight consecutive days.The train in Kashmir has been plying partially between Banihal to Budgam from August 11 due to the security concerns. A railway official said they were waiting for a green signal from the security agencies to run the train up to Baramulla in north Kashmir.“The train service up to Baramulla will be resumed only after getting clearance from the railway security force,” said the railway official.Sources said after a rack was damaged during stone-pelting incidents at several stations in south Kashmir on August 10, the railway police had arrested dozens of youth and suspended the rail operations partially.“As many of the arrested youth are from the north Kashmir, we suspect that there might be some trouble if we ply the train up to Baramulla. That is the reason why the train is plying only up to central Kashmir’s Budgam station. But a decision to ply the train up to Baramulla will be taken very soon,” said an official from the railway police.The daily train commuters from north Kashmir are, however, angry with the railways for plying the train only up to Budgam.

सहरसा-पटना के बीच चलने वाली सुपर फास्ट ट्रेन राज्यरानी एक्सप्रेस शिव व कात्यायनी के भक्तों का काल बन गई। वो भी सावन की अंतिम सोमवारी पर। अनगिनत मन्नतों व गाजे-बाजे के साथ कात्यायनी मंदिर जा रही महिलाओं, पुरुषों व बच्चों की 'भीड़' महज एक मिनट में लाशों के ढेर में तब्दील हो गई। 80 किमी. प्रति घंटे की रफ्तार से धड़धड़ती राज्यरानी उन्हें गाजर-मूली की तरह काटती चली गई। सहरसा-मानसी रेलखंड के धमहरा स्टेशन पर हुए इस दिल दहला देने वाले हादसे में 37 लोग काल कवलित हो गए। घायलों की संख्या सौ से अधिक बताई जा रही है। दुर्घटना के बाद चालक ने कुछ दूरी पर ट्रेन रोक दी। उत्तेजित लोगों की भीड़ ने ट्रेन के गार्ड व चालकों पर हमला कर दिया। भीड़ के हमले के बाद से ट्रेन के चालक राजाराम और सहायक चालक सुमन दोनों लापता हैं। उनके संबंध में तरह-तरह की अफवाहें तैर रही हैं। आक्रोशित भीड़ ने स्टेशन पर तोड़फोड़ कर दी। वहां खड़ी राज्यरानी एक्सप्रेस और सहरसा-समस्तीपुर पैसेंजर ट्रेन को आग के हवाले कर दिया। दोनों ट्रेन धू-धू कर जल गई। भीड़ का रौद्र रूप देखकर स्टेशन में मौजूद रेलवे कर्मचारी भाग खड़े हुए। भीड़ ने स्टेशन परिसर और टिकट काउंटर को भी क्षतिग्रस्त कर दिया। हादसे के बाद से रेलखंड पर ट्रेनों का परिचालन ठप है। कई ट्रेनें रद कर दी गई।

प्रत्यक्षदर्शियों के अनुसार सुबह 8.25 बजे धमहरा स्टेशन के प्लेटफॉर्म नंबर एक पर समस्तीपुर से सहरसा जाने वाली गाड़ी संख्या 55566 डाउन पैसेंजर खड़ी थी। तीन नंबर प्लेटफॉर्म पर 55533 अप सहरसा-समस्तीपुर पैसेंजर पहले से ही खड़ी थी। इसी बीच सहरसा से आ रही 12567 अप राज्यरानी एक्सप्रेस को लाइन नंबर दो पर रन थ्रू सिग्नल दे दिया गया। पहले से खड़ी दोनों पैसेंजर ट्रेनों से बड़ीं संख्या में मां कात्यायनी के भक्त उतरे थे। वे बैरागन का दिन (विशेष पूजा का दिन) होने की वजह से यहां आए थे। वे लोग ढोल बजाते हुए पटरी पार कर पूजा-अर्चना के लिए मां कात्यायनी के मंदिर की ओर जा रहे थे। इसी बीच लाइन संख्या दो पर राज्यरानी आ गई। राज्यरानी के आने की जानकारी यात्रियों को पूर्व में नहीं दी गई। ढोल की थाप और भक्ति गीतों के उल्लास में मगन श्रद्धालुओं को ट्रेन के आने की आवाज सुनाई नहीं पड़ी। नतीजतन पल भर में ही उल्लास मातम में बदल गया। किसी को भी संभलने तक का मौका नहीं मिला।

हादसे के बाद घटनास्थल का नजारा दिल दहला देने वाला था। रेल पटरियों पर लाशें-लाशें नजर आ रही थीं। समझ में ही नहीं आ रहा था किसका धड़, किसकाहाथ और किसके शरीर का कौन सा हिस्सा कहां पड़ा है। शवो की पहचान करना भी मुश्किल था।

इस दृश्य को देखकर स्टेशन और वहां पहले से खड़ी ट्रेनों पर सवार यात्रियों में अफरातफरी मच गई। दुर्घटना के घंटों बाद कुछ घायलों को समस्तीपुर-सहरसा पैंसेंजर से सहरसा भेजा गया। घटनास्थल के दुर्गम क्षेत्र होने के कारण हताहतों को तत्काल चिकित्सा व अन्य राहत नहीं मिल सकी। आलम यह था कि फायर बिग्रेड की गाड़ियों का वहां पहुंचना भी मुश्किल था। परिणामस्वरूप दोनों ट्रेनें धू-धू कर जलती रही है।

इस बीच स्थानीय लोगों ने लाशों को ट्रेन के नीचे से निकाल कर किनारे रख दिया है। स्थानीय लोगों की मदद से ग्रामीण चिकित्सकों ने घायलों का इलाज किया। इस दौरान शहीद प्रभु नारायण अस्पताल के डाक्टरों एवं स्वास्थ्य कर्मियों का दल घटनास्थल पर पहुंचा। घायलों की हरसंभव सहायता की। लगभग छह घंटे बाद रेलवे की दुर्घटना सहायता चिकित्सा वैन घटनास्थल पर पहुंची।

हादसे की जानकारी मिलते ही बड़ी संख्या में स्थानीय महिला व पुरुष घटनास्थल पर पहुंच गए। लोगों का कहना था, हादसा रेलवे की लापरवाही के वजह से हुआ। लोगों में इस बात का भी आक्रोश था कि रेल व प्रशासन के अधिकारी पीड़ितों की मदद को आगे नहीं आए।

घटना की जानकारी मिलने पर खगड़िया के जिलाधिकारी सैयद परवेज आलम और एसपी शिव कुमार झा कात्यायनी मंदिर पर ही रुके रहे। देर शाम रेलवे मंडल के जीएम मधुरेश कुमार, डीआरएम और एडीजे पीएन राय, डीआइजी केएस अनुपम विशेष ट्रेन से धमहरा पहुंचीं।

खगड़िया के सांसद दिनेश चंद्र यादव ने कहा, रेल प्रशासन की लापरवाही के कारण यह घटना घटी है। पूर्व में रेलवे ने मेले के दौरान इस मार्ग पर धीमी गति से ट्रेनों को चलाने के लिए कॉशन (निर्देश) लगा रखा था। मगर, इस बार ऐसा नहीं किया गया। उन्होंने बताया कि रेल मंत्री से उनकी बातचीत नहीं हुई है। कर्नाटक से लौटने के बाद मृतकों को ज्यादा मुआवजा दिलाने के लिए वे रेल मंत्री से बातचीत करेंगे। उन्होंने कहा, मुख्यमंत्री से भी इस मामले में बातचीत की गई है।

एसआरपी जितेंद्र मिश्रा ने बताया, 28 शवों को बरामद किया गया है। शवों का पोस्टमार्टम घटनास्थल पर ही किया जाएगा। हादसे के लिए दोषी लोगों पर मुकदमा भी दर्ज किया जाएगा।

सहरसा-समस्तीपुर रेलखंड के धमहरा स्टेशन के समीप राज्यरानी एक्सप्रेस की चपेट में आने से कांवरियों की मौत के बाद सहरसा की ओर जाने वाली सभी ट्रेनों के परिचालन पर रोक लगा दी गई है। दो ट्रेनें 55560 व 13226 को खगड़िया से ही वापस लौटा दिया गया है। इससे सहरसा की ओर जाने वाले यात्रियों की परेशानी बढ़ गई है। एक स्थानीय रेल अधिकारी के अनुसार समस्तीपुर रेल मंडल स्तर के अधिकारियों के निर्देश पर ट्रेन संख्या 12568, 12567, 15209, 15120, 12204,12203, 55533 व 15282 को रद कर दिया गया है। रेल अधिकारी के अनुसार फिलहाल आज के लिए यह निर्देश जारी किया गया है। यदि हालात नहीं सुधरे तो इसकी अवधि बढ़ाई जा सकती है।

मालूम हो कि एनएच 107 पर स्थित डुमरी पुल के क्षतिग्रस्त होने से सड़क यातायात बाधित होने से कोसी के कई जिलों की लाखों की आबादी पहले से ही प्रभावित है। धमरा स्टेशन पर हुई भयावह घटना के बाद से रेल यातायात भी गंभीर रूप से प्रभावित हुआ है। ट्रेनों से उतरे लोग मानसी व खगड़िया स्टेशनों पर बेहाल दिखे। रेल प्रशासन भी इनकी सुध नहीं ले रहा है। पूछताछ कार्यालय से इतना जरूर प्रचारित किया जा रहा था कि आज सहरसा की ओर जाने वाली सभी ट्रेनों को रद कर दिया गया है।

New Delhi: Despite concerted efforts by Indian Railways to prevent accident on rail track, the number of persons killed due to trespassing is on the rise.

While 12,894 people were killed on track and level crossings due to trespassing in 2010, the next year witnessed the toll going up to 14,611, according to a Railway data. There were total 8,412 people killed on the track till June 2012, as per the data. Thirty-seven people were killed in Bihar on Monday while crossing the track at Dhamra Ghat station.

"The awareness campaign to educate road users for negotiating level crossing is a constant exercise," said a senior Railway Ministry official.

While Maharashtra has maximum number deaths (1356) due to trespassing followed by West Bengal (1049) in 2012, there were 228 deaths in Bihar.

In Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, the casualty figures are as high as 996 and 819 respectively in 2012.

However, there is a decline in the number of deaths in train accident in the recent past. While 45 were killed in such mishaps during April-August 2012, the casualty came down to 42 for the same period this year.

Maximum number of accidents takes place near level crossings. Railways have 31,254 level crossings across the country out of which 12,582 are unmanned.

"We have drawn out an action plan to eliminate all unmanned level crossings in a phase manner," said the official.

Steps are being taken in coordination with the state governments to eliminate 9,808 unmanned level crossings in the 12th Five-Year Plan, he said.

Union Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge will apprise parliament about the killing of pilgrims by a speeding train in Bihar, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajeev Shukla said Monday."We condole the death of pilgrims in Bihar. The railway minister is collecting more information and all necessary support is being provided for rescue operation," said Shukla.Shukla said Kharge will make a statement as soon as he gets all the information.At least 35 Hindu pilgrims were killed Monday when the Rajya Rani Express train mowed them down while they were trying to cross the track at the Dhamara railway station in Khagaria district.

प्रधानमंत्री डॉ. मनमोहन सिंह ने बिहार में मानसी रेल खंड पर ख‍गडि़या जिले के बदला घाट रेलवे स्‍टेशन के निकट हुई रेल दुर्घटना में श्रद्धालुओं की मृत्‍यु पर गहरा दु:ख व्‍यक्‍त किया है। प्रधानमंत्री ने रेल मंत्रालय को बचाव और राहत कार्य चलाने के लिए सभी उपलब्‍ध संसाधनों को भेजने का निर्देश दिया है। प्रधानमंत्री ने लोगों से शांति बनाये रखने की अपील की है ताकि बचाव और राहत कार्य बिना किसी बाधा के सुचारू रूप से चलाया जा सके।

Chakki Bank railway station in Pathankot will be renamed Pathankot (Cantonment) Railway Station. The name change has got the approval from Ministry of Home Affairs and state revenue and rehabilitation department will issue a notification in a day or two.

The station was built by the British in 1926 and mainly served the troops station in the region and Jammu and Kashmir.

"Some 40-odd trains pass through and stop at the station both up and down in a day. For long it was demand of the local people to change the name. This was a small station and before Independence the trains terminated here. Only after Independence, the railway link to Jammu was established and trains then passed through the station," station master K D Sharma said.

Initially, it had only three rooms and later it was converted into a big station with all main and super fast trains stopping at the station.

Gurdaspur MP Partap Singh Bajwa claimed that he was instrumental in getting the name changed.
