Initial probe by the railways has found that unhygienic food was being supplied to passengers aboard Marusagar Express.

The probe was conducted by both Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram divisions separately.  However, officials also maintained that the final assessment can be stated only after a thorough scientific examination was conducted.

The Assistant Commercial Manager submitted a report to Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Agarwal in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.

The report stated that the ‘cold chain management’ (maintaining of food in proper temperature) in Marusagar Express, bound to Ernakulam from Ajmer, is extremely poor.Over 50 persons travelling in the Express train had fallen ill on Saturday after consuming food that was provided in the pantry car of the train run by ABC Enterprises, a catering agency in Kolkata.“The cold chain management of food items like chicken and curd is poor. The caterers had only two cold storage facilities in the train. This is extremely improper for long distance trains,” the report stated.It also suggested that the vendors were unhygienic and did not serve the food in a healthy way. Expired food items, including gram floor and oil, were also found.According to the officials, food inspectors will examine products that were found in the pantry car and will submit a report to the division in a week’s time.However, they added that much could not be deduced from the incident since the vendors had removed all the items in the pantry car before the train touched Shornur railway station.

The report will then be submitted to officials at the North Western railway which had awarded the contract to the agency.

A separate enquiry was conducted by Palakkad division on Sunday.  Based on the reports, action will be taken against the contractors.  The licence will also be suspended if the report proves that the contractors are at fault.

According to the officials, Thiruvananthapuram division has tightened checking in pantry cars of trains in the division.

“Already, we are conducting strict checks here. The check will be strengthened in the coming days,” the officials added.

Five persons were examined by doctors at Ernakulam railway station.  After ensuring that they were safe, they were sent home.

DALTONGANJ: Some marginal farmers in Palamu are using Indian Railways' plots for cultivation.Marginal labourers are seen using land along railway tracks in Palamu for tilling and sowing seeds ahead of the kharif season.According to them, this land is preferred as concentration of rain water is more here because of the slope of the tracks. Large chunk of Indian Railways' plots are being used .Sources say this may be also due to stones under the railway track which improve retention of rain water.Madan Singh Chero tills the land with a pair of ox taken on a premium! According to this farmer there is a prosperous farmer Sudo Singh Chero who has a fleet of ox and gives the ox on premium a day.One such plot of land belonging to the Indian Railways is near 'Bees Number Ka Pul' in Chiyanki.This reporter met one such marginal farmer tilling this plot Madan Singh Chero (52). Madan Singh Chero conceded that this land is not his but since it is lying unused he is tilling this in this time of drought to have some extra crop. He showed his own plot of land which is across the road and in front of this plot of land of the Indian Railways.

However, this may cause the railways trouble once they decide to expand the tracks in the area or plans a project .

Manoj Kumar, deputy commissioner-Palamu, said the administration would look into the matter .

A pair of ox along with the plough ( in Hindi hal bael) is given for rupees 200 a day in this part of Palamu and Madan has this one when this reporter met him a couple of days back. The pair of ox along with the plough is to be returned in the evening said Madan but before that the pair of ox is to be fed properly otherwise Sudo Singh Chero will not lend this animal again.

The DC Palamu Manoj Kumar on being told of this ox on rent said the administration will certainly look into this matter as to how any prosperous farmer can be so callous to extract so much of rupees in times like this when rains are just out to spoil all chances of even a moderate or modest crop in Palamu.

बिहार के खगड़िया जिले के समस्तीपुर संभाग के सहरसा और मानसी के बीच बदलाघाट स्टेशन के पास सोमवार सुबह राज्यरानी एक्सप्रेस से हुए हादसे को लेकर राजनीति गर्म हो गई है। जहां एक तरफ रेल राज्यमंत्री अधीर रंजन चौधरी ने इस हादसे के लिए रेल प्रशासन को जिम्मेदार ठहराते हुए कहा कि स्थानीय प्रशासन से ही चूक हुई है जिसकी वजह यह हादसा हुआ है।
वहीं, आरजेडी अध्यक्ष लालू प्रसाद यादव और लोक जनशक्ति पार्टी के अध्यक्ष राम विलास पासवान ने नीतीश कुमार के इस्तीफे की मांग के साथ हादसे के उच्चस्तरीय जांच की बात कही है।
लालू ने राज्य सरकार पर हादसे का ठीकरा फोड़ते हुए कहा कि यह हादसा राज्य सरकार और रेल की नाकामी का अंजाम है। ऐसी सरकार को सत्ता पर बने रहने का कोई अधिकार नहीं है। लालू यादव ने घटना पर शोक व्यक्त करते हुए कहा कि रेल प्रशासन ने पूरी लापरवाही बरती है जिसकी वजह से यह हादसा हुआ है। उन्होंने पीड़ितों के लिए 10-10 लाख रुपये का मुआवजा देने की मांग की है। उन्होंने कहा कि बिहार में प्रशासन काम करने में व्यर्थ है।
इधर, जेडीयू अध्यक्ष शरद यादव ने हादसे पर कहा कि यात्री इस बात से अनजान थे कि जब ट्रेन आ रही है तो वे किस ओर जाएं, उन्हें ट्रेन की रफ्तार के बारे में पता नहीं था। विपक्ष इस मामले में कहां पीछे हटने वाला था। भाजपा नेता शहनवाज हुसैन ने हादसे को दुखद बताते हुए कहा कि ट्रेन का ड्राइवर चाहता तो रफ्तार धीमी कर सकता था, लेकिन उसने ऐसा नहीं किया।
रेलवे बोर्ड के चेयरमैन अरुणेंद्र कुमार ने कहा कि खगड़िया और सहरसा के बीच रोड मार्ग न होने कारण राहत कार्य चलाने में देरी हो रही है। हालांकि स्थिति को काबू में लाने के लिए चिकित्सकों की पूरी टीम को घटनास्थल रवाना कर दिया गया है। वहीं, खगड़िया के सांसद दिनेश चंद्र यादव ने इस हादसे पर शोक व्यक्त किया है। गुजरात के मुख्यमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने ट्वीट कर मृतकों की आत्मा की शांति के लिए प्रार्थना की है।
गौरतलब है कि आज सुबह खगड़िया जिले के समस्तीपुर संभाग के बदलाघाट स्टेशन के पास राज्यरानी एक्सप्रेस से कुचलकर 37 लोगों की मौत हो गई, जबकि 100 से अधिक लोगों के घायल होने की खबर है।

The Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counter at Rail Vihar, Chandrasekharpur has been renovated and shifted to a better location. আজ সকালে রেল লাইন পারাপারের সময় বড়সড় দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে গেল বিহারের সমস্তিপুর ডিভিশনের ধামারা ঘাট স্টেশনে। রেল সূত্রে খবর, আজ সকাল ৯টা নাগাদ কাত্যায়নী মন্দির থেকে পুজো দিয়ে ফেরার পথে লাইন পারাপারের সময় রাজ্যরানি এক্সপ্রেসের ধাক্কায় জখম হয়েছেন অসংখ্য মানুষ। বিহার পুলিশ সূত্রে খবর, ঘটনায় ৩৫ জনের মৃত্যু হয়েছে। আহতদের মধ্যে অনেকের অবস্থা আশঙ্কাজনক। ঘটনার জেরে ধামারা ঘাট স্টেশন ঘেরাও করেন স্থানীয় মানুষ। স্টেশন মাস্টারকে আটকে রেখে স্টেশনে ব্যাপক ভাঙচুর চালান বিক্ষুব্ধ জনতা। এমনকি রাজ্যরানি এক্সপ্রেসের একটি বাতানুকুল কামরায় আগুন লাগিয়ে দেয় ক্ষিপ্ত জনতা। স্টেশন মাস্টারের সঙ্গে সমস্তিপুর ডিভিশনের যোগাযোগ বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়ে গিয়েছে। পরিস্থিতি সামাল দিতে ঘটনাস্থলে পাঠানো হয় পুলিশ এবং আরপিএফ-এর বিশাল বাহিনী। আহতদের উদ্ধারের জন্য দু’টি রিলিফ ট্রেনও পাঠানো হয় ধামারা ঘাট স্টেশনে। মৃত্যুর সংখ্যা আরও বাড়তে পারে বলে আশঙ্কা করা হচ্ছে। ঘটনাস্থল পরিদর্শনে যান পূর্ব-মধ্য রেলের কর্তারা। এই দুর্ঘটনায় মৃতের পরিবারপিছু ২ লক্ষ টাকা ক্ষতিপূরণ ঘোষণা করেছে বিহার সরকার।
