Patna: A day after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar angrily reacted to comments of Minister of State for Railway Adhir Ranjan Chaudhury blaming state government for the train disaster at Dhamara Ghat which claimed 28 lives, the Railway on Thursday put the onus on media for "misunderstanding" the minister's remarks. During the visit to the incident site at Dhamara ghat station in Khagaria district past midnight on Monday night, the MOS had said that he was not there to put a blame for the tragedy on anyone, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) East Central Railway Amitabh Prabhakar said in a clarification issued at zonal headquarters at Hajipur. The objective of the minister's visit was to meet the injured and oversee the incident site to take measures so that such incidents are not repeated in future, the release said. |

ALLAHABAD: A video conference was held at the North Central Railway headquarters at Subedarganj under the chairmanship of general manager of NCR Alok Johri. Divisional railway managers of Allahabad, Agra and Jhansi along with the heads of departments participated in the conference and discussed the payments to the retired railway employees and benefits to be granted to the kin of employees who suffer a sudden death.Addressing the meeting, Johri said welfare programmes that are associated with railway employees should be properly implemented. He also laid emphasis on the appointments to be made under dependent of the deceased quota and LARSGESS (Liberalized Active Retirement Scheme of Guaranteed Employment of Safety Staff) scheme on priority basis. He also said that payments like death cum retirement gratuity (DCRG) should be made promptly.He also instructed divisional railway managers and chief workshop managers to personally participate in the monthly retirement programmes and boost the morale of the retired railway employees. |

A small portion of railway lines were damaged when a landmine planted by Maoists went off at Harichandanpur area of Odisha's Keonjhar district police sources said today. None was hurt in the incident on Jakhpura-Bansapani railway line between Sagadpata and Tangiriapal yesterday, the sources said. Since only a small portion of the track was damaged, train services on the route remained unaffected. A detonator and some wire were recovered from the spot. |

दिल्ली- सहारनपुर रेल मार्ग पर कांधला रेलवे स्टेशन के निकट जनता एक्सप्रेस बर्निग ट्रेन बनने से बाल-बाल बची। पटरी पर दौड़ रही जनता एक्सप्रेस ट्रेन के पहिए में ब्रेक का घर्षण होने के कारण दो डिब्बों के बीच आग लग गई। ट्रेन के नीचे आग की लपटें देख यात्रियों में हड़कंप मच गया। कांधला रेलवे स्टेशन पर ट्रेन के पहुंचने पर यात्रियों ने पानी डालकर आग बुझाई। बाद में दस मिनट देरी से चेकिंग के बाद ट्रेन को आगे रवाना किया गया। |

NAGPUR: Taking swift action after complaints of harassment by women passengers on a train, Itwari railway police nabbed a group of 15 youths from Shivnath Express as soon as it reached Itwari Railway station early on Thursday morning.The group of youths hailing from Bilaspur and Raipur were employees of a private company and were coming to Nagpur to attend an official meeting.Police have booked the youths on a complaint lodged by Khaperkheda resident Aarti Trivedi, 48, and Narendra Agrawal from Korba.Trivedi was travelling with her two young daughters and Agrawal was with his wife. They claimed that during the journey, the youths first sang indecent songs and passed abusive comments towards Trivedi's daughters and Agrawal's wife.The duo informed the TTE and even alerted railway police control room. The youths were produced in the court on Thursday afternoon and released on bail with Rs 500 fine each. |

The pilot project of deployment of doctors in Duronto trains has not been found to be very useful for passengers due to technical constraints faced by medics deployed on trains, Lok Sabha was told on Thursday."In view of this it has been decided to discontinue deployment of doctors and para-medical staff in Duronto trains having a run of less than six hours," Minister of State for Railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said in a written answer.However, it has been decided by railways to deploy a para-medic trained in Emergency Medical Response with all essential life saving medicines and equipment in place of a doctor in Duronto trains having a run of more than six hours. All long distance passenger carrying trains are provided with First Aid Boxes containing essential drugs and dressing materials. In addition, augmented First Aid Boxes with wide range of medicines and disposable medical material have been provided with the train superintendents of Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express trains and guards of other nominated trains.The frontline staff deployed on trains is trained in rendering First Aid. Services of doctors travelling as passengers are utilised to attend to passengers who are in need of urgent medical assistance.Trains can also make unscheduled halts, if necessary, at the stations en-route in emergencies. The Station Masters have details of doctors, clinics and hospitals both government and private, in the vicinity of the station, so that their services could also be availed in emergencies. |
