The pilot project of deployment of doctors in Duronto trains has not been found to be very useful for passengers due to technical constraints faced by medics deployed on trains, Lok Sabha was told on Thursday."In view of this it has been decided to discontinue deployment of doctors and para-medical staff in Duronto trains having a run of less than six hours," Minister of State for Railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said in a written answer.However, it has been decided by railways to deploy a para-medic trained in Emergency Medical Response with all essential life saving medicines and equipment in place of a doctor in Duronto trains having a run of more than six hours. All long distance passenger carrying trains are provided with First Aid Boxes containing essential drugs and dressing materials. In addition, augmented First Aid Boxes with wide range of medicines and disposable medical material have been provided with the train superintendents of Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express trains and guards of other nominated trains.The frontline staff deployed on trains is trained in rendering First Aid. Services of doctors travelling as passengers are utilised to attend to passengers who are in need of urgent medical assistance.Trains can also make unscheduled halts, if necessary, at the stations en-route in emergencies. The Station Masters have details of doctors, clinics and hospitals both government and private, in the vicinity of the station, so that their services could also be availed in emergencies.

दिल्ली- सहारनपुर रेल मार्ग पर कांधला रेलवे स्टेशन के निकट जनता एक्सप्रेस बर्निग ट्रेन बनने से बाल-बाल बची। पटरी पर दौड़ रही जनता एक्सप्रेस ट्रेन के पहिए में ब्रेक का घर्षण होने के कारण दो डिब्बों के बीच आग लग गई। ट्रेन के नीचे आग की लपटें देख यात्रियों में हड़कंप मच गया। कांधला रेलवे स्टेशन पर ट्रेन के पहुंचने पर यात्रियों ने पानी डालकर आग बुझाई। बाद में दस मिनट देरी से चेकिंग के बाद ट्रेन को आगे रवाना किया गया।
दिल्ली-सहारनपुर रेल मार्ग पर जनता एक्सप्रेस ट्रेन का कांधला रेलवे स्टेशन पर पहुंचने का समय रात आठ बजे का है। यात्रियों के मुताबिक गुरुवार को कांधला रेलवे स्टेशन से एक किमी पहले पटरी पर दौड़ रही जनता एक्सप्रेस ट्रेन के दूसरे व तीसरे डिब्बे के बीच आग की लपटें उठने लगी। यात्रियों ने आग की लपटों को देखा, तो डिब्बे में मौजूद यात्रियों में हड़कंप मच गया और महिलाओं व बच्चों में चीख-पुकार मच गई। अनहोनी की आशंका के चलते सभी यात्री पिछले डिब्बे में पहुंच गए। यात्रियों ने चेन पुलिंग करने की कोशिश की, लेकिन ट्रेन नहीं रुकी और नीचे से आग की लपटें बढ़ती चली गई। ट्रेन जैसे ही कांधला स्टेशन पर रुकी, तो यात्रियों ने उतरकर आग पर काबू पाने की कोशिश की और ट्रेन चालक को इसकी जानकारी दी। इसके बाद यात्रियों ने कड़ी मशक्कत के बाद पानी डालकर आग को बुझाया। यात्री वरुण, दीपक, अमित और हरेंद्र के अनुसार ट्रेन को चेकिंग के बाद ही आगे रवाना किया गया। इस कारण ट्रेन करीब दस मिनट लेट हो गई। शामली रेलवे स्टेशन मास्टर विक्रांत ने बताया कि कांधला रेलवे स्टेशन के करीब जनता एक्सप्रेस ट्रेन के पहिए में ब्रेक शू का घर्षण होने के कारण आग लग गई थी, जिस कारण ट्रेन करीब दस मिनट देरी से आगे रवाना किया गया। गनीमत रही कि कोई हताहत नहीं हुआ।

Patna: A day after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar angrily reacted to comments of Minister of State for Railway Adhir Ranjan Chaudhury blaming state government for the train disaster at Dhamara Ghat which claimed 28 lives, the Railway on Thursday put the onus on media for "misunderstanding" the minister's remarks. During the visit to the incident site at Dhamara ghat station in Khagaria district past midnight on Monday night, the MOS had said that he was not there to put a blame for the tragedy on anyone, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) East Central Railway Amitabh Prabhakar said in a clarification issued at zonal headquarters at Hajipur. The objective of the minister's visit was to meet the injured and oversee the incident site to take measures so that such incidents are not repeated in future, the release said.



In the process, Chaudhury announced the construction of a platform, foot-over-bridge (FOB) and public announcing system.

"Further he felt that the incident could have been averted had the local civil administration worked in coordination and anticipated such a large crowd at this small station in view of the puja at Katyani mandir on last Somwari (monday) of Shrawan month," it said.

"However, his statement has been misunderstood as many of the electronic and print media have said that the minister has blamed the state government," the clarification said.

A high level inquiry has been ordered by the Railway to look into all aspects of incidence and appropriate action and corrective measures will be taken wherever required, it added.

The Bihar Chief Minister has yesterday decried the state minister's comments and dubbed it as "highly irresponsible."

"By giving such comments he has made a fool of himself," Kumar had told reporters.

NAGPUR: Taking swift action after complaints of harassment by women passengers on a train, Itwari railway police nabbed a group of 15 youths from Shivnath Express as soon as it reached Itwari Railway station early on Thursday morning.The group of youths hailing from Bilaspur and Raipur were employees of a private company and were coming to Nagpur to attend an official meeting.Police have booked the youths on a complaint lodged by Khaperkheda resident Aarti Trivedi, 48, and Narendra Agrawal from Korba.Trivedi was travelling with her two young daughters and Agrawal was with his wife. They claimed that during the journey, the youths first sang indecent songs and passed abusive comments towards Trivedi's daughters and Agrawal's wife.The duo informed the TTE and even alerted railway police control room. The youths were produced in the court on Thursday afternoon and released on bail with Rs 500 fine each.

The State Highways Department is set to call for tenders for the construction of the new road over bridge (ROB) across the Railway track at Periyar Nagar on the Thiruvanaikovil Trunk Road in the city next month.The Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, a public sector undertaking, will construct the Railway portion of the proposed ROB. The public sector undertaking will undertake the task as it is currently executing the track doubling work on the Villupuram-Dindigul section and the railway crossing forms part of the section, sources in the State Highways Department told The Hindu . Normally, the Railways takes up the responsibility of building the portion of ROBs on its land under projects taken up with the Highways Department.The new four-lane ROB will replace the existing narrow two-lane bridge that has turned a major traffic bottleneck in Srirangam in recent years. Commuters have been facing an ordeal everyday owing to the frequent traffic snarls on the road. Traffic hold ups often occur on the weak and narrow bridge over the railway track at Periyar Nagar.

Highways Department sources also indicated that the tender for the new bridge will be called next month as the estimates have been readied and sent for approval. The State government has already accorded administrative sanction for the new bridge at an estimated cost of Rs.43 crore. Indications are that the project cost could be higher given the rise in land cost. However, only a limited area is to be acquired for the project as a substantial portion of the required lands are government held. The land plan schedule for the ROB has already been submitted to the government to be forwarded to the government for approval.

The Highways Department is now planning to take up the construction of a subway first at the project site so as to ensure that vehicles passing through the busy road could be the diverted through it. “We have decided to raise the height of subway to nearly four metres against the normal height of 2.5 metres so that even buses can be operated through it,” said an officer of the department.

This means that the department will not have to wait for the completion of the ROB currently under construction on the Oyamari Road along the Cauvery bank as originally felt.

A small portion of railway lines were damaged when a landmine planted by Maoists went off at Harichandanpur area of Odisha's Keonjhar district police sources said today. None was hurt in the incident on Jakhpura-Bansapani railway line between Sagadpata and Tangiriapal yesterday, the sources said. Since only a small portion of the track was damaged, train services on the route remained unaffected. A detonator and some wire were recovered from the spot.

The Rs 2,200-crore rail coach factory (RCF) to be set up at Sonepat would start with 400 coaches annually and roll out 1,000 coaches when fully commissioned, Minister of state for Railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said today.Chowdhary, who was here to lay the foundation stone of a railway under-bridge at Gharaunda, said the rail coach factory would come up on 500 acres and the Haryana Government had expressed its willingness to provide 370 acres “free of cost” for the project.The under-bridge would be a boon for the population of 60 villages which was facing closure of the highway at the railway crossing every 10 minutes with over 100 trains running on this track.The minister said plans were being worked out to extend the Delhi Metro to the National Capital Region (NCR) and Meerut. Terming the Bihar rail tragedy as unfortunate, he said that an inquiry committee has been constituted to probe the incident.Chowdhury said such underbridges would be constructed at other busy places in the state to reduce the number of accidents on railway crossings.
