कानपुर झांसी के बीच नई विद्युतीकरण रेलवे लाइन पर कब से ट्रेनों का आवागमन शुरू होगा, इसको लेकर संशय बरकरार है। सोमवार को रेल संरक्षा आयुक्त पीके वाजपेयी ने विद्युतीकृत लाइन का निरीक्षण किया। उन्होंने कहा कि मंगलवार को इलेक्ट्रिक इंजन का लाइन पर ट्रायल होगा। इसके बाद रिपोर्ट ऊपर भेजी जाएगी। कब से इलेक्ट्रिक ट्रेनें दौड़ने लगेंगी इसको लेकर उन्होंने कोई आधिकारिक संकेत नहीं दिया है। उन्होंने कहा कि तकनीकि खामियों को वे चिन्हित कर रहे हैं। |

KANPUR: North Central Railway authorities have decided to allow two-minute halt for a few trains at Panki railway station in wake of Budhwa Mangal.The decision has been taken to allow devotees a chance to get down at the Panki railway station from where they can easily reach the famous Panki temple on Tuesday-the day when Budhwa Mangal will be celebrated. The NCR authorities said that ten trains would be allowed a 2-minute halt at Panki railway station. Besides, two Memu trains would operate between lucknow and Panki. The stoppage to these trains have been given on September 16 to 18.The decision would facilitate passengers to get down and proceed towards Panki temple where Budhwa Mangal will be celebrated, said Sandeep Mathur, chief public relations officer, NCR. Senior Station Superintendent of Panki Railway station MA Khan said that to facilitate the passengers on the occasion of Budhwa Mangal two additional ticket counters would be made operational. This would avoid rush and enable passengers buy tickets. This arrangement was done keeping in mind the huge rush of the passengers.He said that additional railway staff would remain on duty to manage the rush of the devotees. |

ALLAHABAD: To promote talent, a painting competition was organized for children of railway officers and employees at Subedarganj on Sunday under the auspices of North Central Railway Women Welfare Organization (NCRWWO).The competition was divided into three age groups, 6 to 9 years; 9-12 years and 12-15 years. Among the participants 67 were in the first group, 80 in second and 47 in the third group. The topic of the first group was 'Scene of Setting Sun' while for the second group was 'Scene of traffic signal' or ' Scene of circus'. The topic for the third group was 'One day among Tribal people ' or ' Journey through train'.On the occasion, president of NCRWWO Chitrangada Johri,Afshan Kabir, Sita Rani, Suman Lata Verma, Madhulika Mathur, Madhulika Singh, Mamta Kumar, Neera Shukla, Dr. Aparna Goyal, Priti Kumar, Mamta Rana, Namita Arya and Madhu Verma were present. |

A couple escaped with injuries after the car in which they were travelling was rammed by a train at an unmanned level-crossing at Kamban Nagar here on Sunday afternoon.The couple, Vasu (52) and Indira (43), hailing from Deva Nagar, were admitted to the Government General Hospital with injuries.Sources said Vasu, who was driving the car, stopped close to the railway track on seeing the approaching Chennai-Puducherry passenger train around 11.15 am. According to the locals who witnessed the accident, the car was dragged for about 50 metres alongside the track before it fell to the side of the tracks.The unmanned railway crossing had no signal.Residents Vayalveli area rushed to the spot and pulled the couple out of the car, which was completely damaged in the accident.Hospital sources said Indira suffered more injuries, but was out of danger. Vasu was also being treated for bruises.One of the residents told Express that a similar accident occurred at the same level crossing about three months ago. Residents in the area also said the unmanned crossing posed danger to people living in Kamban Nagar, Deva Nagar and Vayalveli areas. They blamed the Railways for not installing a signal to alert the people crossing the line or approaching trains.Locals are afraid to cross the railway line, because trains normally don’t not slow down at this stretch. One does not hear the sound either, said Selvi, a resident of the area. Many cows also died in this stretch, she added. |

A woman pickpocket has been apprehended for allegedly stealing a purse from a female passenger in the Delhi Metro.The incident occurred yesterday when a 65-year-old woman travelling from Noida City Centre to Golf Course station noticed that her purse containing Rs 7,000 was missing.The CISF, which guards the Metro operations, immediately swung into action and saw in CCTV footage a woman, who had a little boy with her, stealing the purse from the traveller's bag.CISF personnel kept a watch and saw her entering a Metro station in the evening."She was apprehended and on search the stolen purse and other documents belonging to the traveller were recovered. She has been handed over to Noida Police," a senior CISF officer said.In a separate incident, an alert CISF constable averted a possible suicide attempt by a college going girl at Rajouri Garden Metro station today."Constable Rupam Boro saw on CCTV that a young girl was trying to climb the grill of the station in an attempt to jump off.A boy, who was her friend, was trying to dissuade her from doing so," an official said.Finally, the students, who are in BA first year, were apprehended by a team of CISF personnel and the matter was reported to the police, the official said.The girl said he was having some domestic problems and was attempting to take the extreme step, they said. |

An alert Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) trooper foiled a woman's attempt to commit suicide by jumping off the elevated platform of a Delhi Metro station, an official said Monday.The incident was reported from west Delhi's Rajouri Garden Metro station around 8.30 p.m. Sunday."CISF constable Rupam Boro, deputed in CCTV monitoring room, observed a young woman commuter climbing over the grille and a man trying to stop her. The constable took a few seconds to understand that she was trying to jump off," said the official.Boro immediately informed his colleagues who rushed to the spot and caught both the male and female passengers, said the official.Both the passengers - identified as Puja, 19, and Vinay, 20 - were brought to station control room where the woman disclosed that she wanted to commit suicide due to some domestic problems."Both belong to Rohtak in Haryana. They are the students of Delhi's Shivaji College and are studying in BA first year. After a police enquiry, the woman was handed over to her family," said the official. |
