A woman pickpocket has been apprehended for allegedly stealing a purse from a female passenger in the Delhi Metro.The incident occurred yesterday when a 65-year-old woman travelling from Noida City Centre to Golf Course station noticed that her purse containing Rs 7,000 was missing.The CISF, which guards the Metro operations, immediately swung into action and saw in CCTV footage a woman, who had a little boy with her, stealing the purse from the traveller's bag.CISF personnel kept a watch and saw her entering a Metro station in the evening."She was apprehended and on search the stolen purse and other documents belonging to the traveller were recovered. She has been handed over to Noida Police," a senior CISF officer said.In a separate incident, an alert CISF constable averted a possible suicide attempt by a college going girl at Rajouri Garden Metro station today."Constable Rupam Boro saw on CCTV that a young girl was trying to climb the grill of the station in an attempt to jump off.A boy, who was her friend, was trying to dissuade her from doing so," an official said.Finally, the students, who are in BA first year, were apprehended by a team of CISF personnel and the matter was reported to the police, the official said.The girl said he was having some domestic problems and was attempting to take the extreme step, they said.

BANGALORE: Satisfied with the response from industries abroad, chief minister Siddaramaiah said that Japan has evinced interest in funding and sharing technology in a bullet train project in Karnataka.

Sharing his experience a day after his return from five-day China tour, Siddaramaiah, who appeared impressed by his eight-minute travel by a high-speed train from Shanghai central to Pudong international airport covering a distance of 50km, on Monday said "A bullet train between Bangalore and Mysore, about 130km, was necessary as we want to decongest Bangalore. One can reach Mysore in 30 minutes by bullet train."

The CM said he had a meeting with Japan's minister for education, culture, sports, science and technology, Hakubun Shimomura, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum meeting at Dalian in China. "The Japanese side evinced interest in a high-speed (bullet) train project in terms of technology and investment and promised to send a delegation to Bangalore on an exploratory visit," he said.

Another area which appeared to have impressed Siddaramaiah was the Dalian convention centre. The CM said the Dalian convention centre was built by the Chinese to host WEF meeting in just 10 months and inspired by the idea and he wants to build an International convention centre near Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) on PPP model at a cost of Rs 400 crore to Rs 500 crore.

Impressed by the quality of roads in Dalian, the CM said he did not find even single pothole. "We have to learn and imbibe the quality of infrastructure and vision from them," he remarked.

Siddaramaiah said Malaysia's Q1 Group expressed interest in investing in e-retail, IT and education sectors in Karnataka while Spanish firm Acciona did so in waste water treatment, renewable energy projects and wind energy.

The CM said a road show was organized to showcase investment opportunities in the state in sectors like IT, BT, aerospace, manufacturing, food processing and tourism and wind energy. He said the show was attended by 150 investors and entrepreneurs.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division authorities have informed of running special trains to clear the extra rush of passengers during Durga Puja and Diwali festival.The Santragachi-Kochuveli Weekly Special (train no. 02851) will leave Santragachi at 4.05pm on Saturdays from October 5 to November 30 to arrive Kochuveli at 10.30am on the third day.The Kochuveli-Santragachi Weekly Special (train no. 02852) will leave Kochuveli at 4.15am on Tuesdays from October 8 to December 3 to arrive Santragachi at 3.00am on the third day.The composition of the trains will be two AC 3-tiers, eight Sleeper Class, four general second class and two luggage-cum-brake van coaches.The trains will stop at Kharagpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur Keonjhar Road, Bhubaneswar, Khurda Road, Berhampur, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Samalkot, Rajahmundry, Eluru, Vijayawada, Ongole, Nellore, Gudur, Renigunta, Katpadi, Gudiyattam, Vaniyambadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Palakkad, Thrissur, Aluva, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam, Thiruvalla, Chengannur, Mavelikkara, Kayamkulam and Kollam.

Advance reservation for the above trains commenced on Monday.

Chandigarh : The Member of Parliament from Chandigarh, Pawan Kumar Bansal, today said that the Chandigarh-Kochuveli Express, which is a weekly train will soon become biweekly, as announced in the rail budget.The MP was participating in a function organised by the Confederation of Keralite Organisations in the tricity to celebrate Onam at Community Centre, Sector 47. He further said the new trains to religious places will start running from October.While the Nangal Dam-Anadpur Sahib-Chandigarh-Hazur Sahib (Nanded) Express will be flagged off on October 3 and the Kalka-Chandigarh-Shirdi Express will be flagged off on October 6.Benny Thomas, media in charge, said Onam is a traditional ten-day harvest festival celebrated by the people of Kerala. The occasion was brightened up with Athhapookalam Competition in traditional festival spirit.Dr Earnest Charles J Samuel, co-founder of Mount Carmel School, Chandigarh, was felicitated by the confederation.

Two new trains, Nanded Sahib Express and Shirdi Express are expected to be flagged off by former railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal on October 3 and 6, respectively. The decision to start the trains was taken recently. Residents of the city have hailed the decision.

कानपुर झांसी के बीच नई विद्युतीकरण रेलवे लाइन पर कब से ट्रेनों का आवागमन शुरू होगा, इसको लेकर संशय बरकरार है। सोमवार को रेल संरक्षा आयुक्त पीके वाजपेयी ने विद्युतीकृत लाइन का निरीक्षण किया। उन्होंने कहा कि मंगलवार को इलेक्ट्रिक इंजन का लाइन पर ट्रायल होगा। इसके बाद रिपोर्ट ऊपर भेजी जाएगी। कब से इलेक्ट्रिक ट्रेनें दौड़ने लगेंगी इसको लेकर उन्होंने कोई आधिकारिक संकेत नहीं दिया है। उन्होंने कहा कि तकनीकि खामियों को वे चिन्हित कर रहे हैं।
रेल संरक्षा आयुक्त पीके वाजपेयी ने उरई रेलवे स्टेशन पर इलेक्ट्रिक लाइन के निरीक्षण के दौरान माना कि अभी इलेक्ट्रिक लाइन से ट्रेनों के संचालन में तमाम गतिरोध हैं उन्हें दूर करने की कोशिश की जा रही है। उन्होंने कहा कि कानपुर से झांसी तक बिछी विद्युतीकृत रेलवे लाइन के निरीक्षण के बाद मंगलवार को इलेक्ट्रिक इंजन का फाइनल ट्रायल होगा। इसके बाद तय किया जाएगा लाइन ठीक है या नहीं, कब से इलेक्ट्रिक ट्रेनों के आवागमन को हरी झंडी मिलेगी इसको लेकर उन्होंने कुछ नहीं कहा। चौरसी के पास विद्युतीकृत लाइन में पावर सप्लाई के लिए सब स्टेशन के निर्माण को लेकर चल रहा विवाद अभी खत्म नहीं हुआ, लेकिन उन्होंने कहा कि यहां सब स्टेशन स्थापित हुए बगैर भी इलेक्ट्रिक लाइन शुरू हो सकती है। इलेक्ट्रिक लाइन देखने वाले इंजीनियरों से उन्होंने तकनीकी खामियों के बारे में पूछा।

Baramulla, Sep 14: The Special Investigation Team ( SIT) constituted to probe the mysterious death of People’s League leader Abdul Rashid Sofi alias Ghazi has expressed dismay over the Northern Railway failure to install CCTV camera at the Kralhar railway station here in north Kashmir.

The SIT, according to reports, had approached the railway department to seek the footage of CCTV camera if installed at the Kralhar railway station, however, to their dismay they found that the department had not installed the system.

Sources told that the railway department had so far not installed any such surveillance cameras all along the route from Baramulla to Qazigund despite the fact that the entire route from Baramulla to Qazigund, comprising of 15 railway stations and 64 major bridges are considered to be sensitive keeping in view the turmoil in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the special investigation team probing the death of the 65 year old PL leader is reportedly seeking all the details of the passengers who had traveled on Wednesday evening from Islamabad (Anantnag) to Baramulla. The SIT has also reportedly questioned several railway guards deployed at Kralhar Baramulla railway station.

Meanwhile, various pro-freedom leaders and parties have condoled the demise of Ghazi.Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik  has expressed shock and grief over the demise, describing the deceased as a gentle and humble soul. He said Gazi’s dedication and struggle will always be remembered. He prayed for the deceased and sympathized with the bereaved family.

A delegation of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) led by its general secretary Moulana Abdullah Tari on Saturday visited the residence of the deceased.

“Due to continuous house arrest senior resistance leader and chairman DFP Shabir Ahmad Shah could not visit the Baramulla to express solidarity with the family of resistance leader Ghazi Abdul Rashid on his martyrdom,” a DFP spokesman said.

However, on his instructions, a delegation visited the residence of the deceased and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family,” he added.

ALLAHABAD: To promote talent, a painting competition was organized for children of railway officers and employees at Subedarganj on Sunday under the auspices of North Central Railway Women Welfare Organization (NCRWWO).The competition was divided into three age groups, 6 to 9 years; 9-12 years and 12-15 years. Among the participants 67 were in the first group, 80 in second and 47 in the third group. The topic of the first group was 'Scene of Setting Sun' while for the second group was 'Scene of traffic signal' or ' Scene of circus'. The topic for the third group was 'One day among Tribal people ' or ' Journey through train'.On the occasion, president of NCRWWO Chitrangada Johri,Afshan Kabir, Sita Rani, Suman Lata Verma, Madhulika Mathur, Madhulika Singh, Mamta Kumar, Neera Shukla, Dr. Aparna Goyal, Priti Kumar, Mamta Rana, Namita Arya and Madhu Verma were present.

सेंट्रल स्टेशन पर पुष्पक एक्सप्रेस, गरीब नवाज, कालका, नार्थ ईस्ट, संपर्क क्रांति, ओखा, हावड़ा एक्सप्रेस, ग्वालियर बरौनी एक्सप्रेस समेत 40 ट्रेनों के कोचों की सफाई और इन ट्रेनों में पानी भरने का काम निजी हाथों को सौंपा गया है। उत्तर मध्य जोन ने इसके लिए अरुण एवियेशन कंपनी को ठेका दिया है। कंपनी ने 80 कर्मियों को सेंट्रल स्टेशन पर लगाया है। ये कर्मी दो चरणों में सुबह 6 बजे से रात 10 बजे तक लगाए गए हैं। एक चरण में कुल 40 कर्मी होते हैं और ट्रेन की सूचना मिलते ही पहले से ही पाइप, सफाई मशीन लेकर खड़े हो जाते हैं। दिल्ली से हावड़ा के बीच एक के पीछे एक दौड़ रही 24-24 कोच की ट्रेनें के कोच में पानी खत्म होने पर आये दिन हंगामा होता है। गर्मी में तो कई कई घंटे यात्री ट्रेन को रोककर हंगामा व प्लेटफार्म पर ही धरना देते हैं।

इस संबंध में उत्तर मध्य जोन के मुख्य जनसंपर्क अधिकारी संदीप माथुर का कहना है कि यात्रियों की सुविधा के लिये व्यवस्थाएं की जा रही हैं। ट्रेनों की सफाई पर भी विशेष ध्यान दिया जा रहा है।
