Bathinda : Shortage of funds is the reason behind absence of facilities being provided to railway passengers. This was stated by the new Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Ambala Division, Anil Kumar, who was on a short visit the Bathinda Junction today.To a query as to when would the railway authorities construct a ramp to facilitate handicapped persons reach platforms, the DRM admitted that there was an acute shortage of funds. "Till the time a ramp is constructed, a trolley service will be offered to the needy from the parcel room to the platform," Kumar said.He also cited funds crunch when pointed out that the condition of the railway over bridge was bad and needed to be replaced. The reply remained the same when asked about the absence of metal detectors at the entry and exit points of the station, enough police presence and close circuit television (CCTVs) cameras.Members of the Railway Passengers' Welfare Men's Association submitted a memorandum of their demands to the DRM following which he directed officials at the railway station to pull up their socks.When it was pointed out to the DRM that a set of stairs that was constructed recently was hazardous to the passengers, he used the stairs himself and assured that railing will be erected on both the sides of the stairs to facilitate the passengers. He said it would rule out the chance of passengers hurtling down the stairs.The DRM also noticed that there was no board on the stairs informing that the stairs led to Bathinda Junction. He directed the railway authorities to get a board installed at the stairs at the earliest.He took a round of the ticketing counter and the main entry point of the railway station. When pointed out that the cleanliness of the junction was dependent on an alternative plan since the contract with a firm responsible for cleaning the station ended on July 25, he assured that a permanent solution to the problem would be made available soon as tenders have already been invited for the purpose.Notably, while close to 57 men were engaged to keep the railway junction clean, the job is being done by only a handful of persons these days. While several areas, especially the waiting room and the platforms remain littered, the places looked comparatively cleaner on Sunday since the railway station authorities had been intimated of the DRM's visit in advance. |

LUDHIANA: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari today thanked the Union Railway Minister Malikarjun Kharge for the daily operation of the Ludhiana-Delhi Shatabadi. Earlier the train was running four days a week.In a statement issued here today, Tewari said, he was thankful to the ministry officials also who had ensured that from September 8, as decided earlier, the Ludhiana-Delhi Shatabadi was made to operate daily.The Minister said, not only does it provide another link to the people of Ludhiana and surrounding areas, but almost the entire Malwa region, with a two minute stoppage at Sangrur, and parts of Haryana including the areas surrounding Jind and Rohtak.Tewari said, the train has been extended up to Moga since December last and has now stoppages at Jagaraon, Sangrur, Jind and Rohtak also. |

कोलकाता से आई संरक्षा अंकेक्षण की टीम ने शनिवार को दरभंगा जंक्शन का निरीक्षण किया। इस दौरान मुख्य शेफ्टी अंकेक्षण सह मुख्य ऑपरेशन प्रबंधक एसके दास के नेतृत्व में सीईई एके कुंडु, सीई पशुराम सिंह एवं सीएसटीई एलपी सिन्हा ने सिंगनल सेंटर स्थित यातायात गणना की पूरी जानकारी ली। कक्ष में सभी अभिलेखों को देखा। वहीं कलैपो, पैड लॉक, डेटोनेटर, फ्यूजी, चाबी हैड, सिंगनल लैंप आदि सहित कई उपकरण का जायजा लिया। संग्रहालय गुमती के पास भीड़ को देखते हुए ओवर ब्रिज की आवश्यकता जताई। आरआरआई पैनल केबिन, डीजल लॉबी, रनिंग रूम आदि को सुरक्षा की दृष्टि से कई बदलाव लाने का निर्देश दिया। ट्रेन जंजीर, रोलिंग इन व आउट का भी जायजा लिया। इसके साथ ही समपार फाटक, गेटमैन, ब्रेक यान उपकरण कप बोर्ड को सील किया गया है कि नहीं, ट्रेन का रिवर्सल सहित कई बिंदुओं पर स्थानीय स्तर से जानकारी ली गई। मौके पर एसडीएसटी केसी शर्मा, एसएसई अश्वनी श्रीवास्तव, एसडीएसओ अनिल कुमार, टीआई सत्य प्रकाश, सीएसआई ध्रुव कुमार, सीएचआई एनके दास, डीसीआई राजेश श्रीवास्तव सहित आरपीएफ प्रभारी हीरा प्रसाद सिंह, उप निरीक्षक अरुण ठाकुर सहित कई मौजूद थे। वहीं निरीक्षण के दौरान कई लोगों ने इसे सिर्फ कोरम पूरा करने की बात कही। |

The much-awaited daily Punalur-Guruvayur train will be flagged off from the Punalur station in the evening on September 14. Union Minister of State for Labour, Kodikunnil Suresh, who announced this at a press conference here on Monday said that the train comes as an Onam gift from the Railways to the people of Kerala.The scheduled departure time of the train from Punalur is 5.30 p.m. and it will arrive at Guruvayur at 2 a.m. the next day. The train which leaves Guruvayur at 6 p.m. will arrive at Punalur at 2.20 a.m. the next day.The train will have halts at Avaneeshwaram, Kottarakara, Ezhukone, Kundra, Kollam, Munroethuruthu, Sasthamcotta, Karunagapally, Kayamkulam, Mavelikara, Chengannur, Thiruvalla, Changanacherry, Kottayam, Ettumannur, Vaikom Road, Piravam Road, Tripunithura Ernakulam North, Aluva, Angamaly, Chalakudy, Irinjalakuda, Puthukkad, Thrissur and Ponkunnam. |
