NFR rally to beat Sunrise AC

GUWAHATI, Sept 6 – After two back-to-back defeats, defending champions NF Railway Sports Club are back to winning form in the Abhishek Motors RG Baruah GSA Super League Football Tournament as they rallied to beat Sunrise Athletic Club 2-1.
With today’s victory, the NF Railway team has collected 19 points with one match to go and are placed in a satisfactory position to retain the title. Navajyoti are following them with 15 points while Green Valley (14 points) and Sunrise (12 points) are in the third and the fourth positions respectively. Both Navajyoti and Green Valley have two more matches to play.

The Railway team was distinctly a dominating side today enjoying superior ball possession. They made a bright start but failed to breeze ahead at the early stage of the match. They should have won the match by a much bigger margin but their strikers – Jalendra Brahma, Y Raju Singh and Chayaram Basumatary – missed some easy sitters.

Despite having domination in the midfield and in the up front, the Railway strikers could not capitalise on the scoring opportunities even from close ranges. Particularly in the second session, the NF Railway team kept the Sunrise defenders under constant pressure.

The railwaymen conceded a soft goal in the 22nd minute when Nigerian Camara sent a square pass from the right wing to his country mate Olando who gently put the ball in the Railway goal (1-0).

In the remaining part of the first session, Railway made some valiant efforts in search of the equaliser but some good work by Sunrise defenders Sanjay Nag and Raju Roy, rescued them from conceding goal in the first session.

NF Railway finally managed to level the issue in the 66th minute when the ball deflected into the Sunrise goal off a Sibra Narzary shot. Sibra unleashed a shot from top of the box and the ball entered the goal kissing Sunrise defender Rojit Singh’s thigh (1-1).

Railwaymen’s tireless efforts paid off as Chayaram Basumatary hit the winning goal in the 85th minute. Anticipating a pass from Sushanta Mazumdar, Chayaram ran through the Sunrise defence line and drove home from inside the box (2-1).

कैंट स्टेशन पर गुरुवार को निरीक्षण करने के बाद लखनऊ मंडल के एडीआरएम आरके लाल व सीनियर डीसीएम अश्विनी श्रीवास्तव ने समाचार-पत्र प्रतिनिधियों से अनौपचारिक बातचीत में यह जानकारी दी। बताया, परीक्षण के तौर पर सबसे पहले स्वचालित टिकट मशीन वाराणसी व लखनऊ में लगाई जाएंगी। दोनों अधिकारी यात्री सुविधाओं की जांच करने लखनऊ से यहां आए थे।

सफाई व्यवस्था में सुधार का दावा

सफाई व्यवस्था के सवाल पर श्री लाल ने कहा कि सुधार की प्रक्रिया जारी है। नई एजेंसी ने पहले की अपेक्षा सफाई कार्य में तेजी दिखा रही है। प्लेटफार्मो पर पट्टियां लगाने का काम चल रहा है। प्रतीक्षालय व विश्रामालय के फर्नीचर बदल दिए गए हैं। बुकिंग हाल में कुर्सियां लगाने की भी प्रक्रिया चल रही है। यात्रियों को चेंज रुपये उपलब्ध कराने के लिए स्टेट बैंक आफ इंडिया से बात चल रही है।

खानपान की नई व्यवस्था

सीनियर डीसीएम अश्विनी श्रीवास्तव ने बताया की प्लेटफार्म नंबर पांच व नौ पर फूड प्लाजा और भोजनालय के लिए टेंडर की प्रक्रिया पूरी कर ली गई है। उम्मीद है कि दो माह के अंदर स्टेशन पर खानपान की नई व्यवस्था हो जाएगी।

निरीक्षण में मुख्य क्षेत्रीय प्रबंधक पंकज सक्सेना, स्टेशन प्रबंधक एके पांडेय, एईएन रमेश सोलंकी, एएमई राजेश कुमार, आरपीएफ के प्रभारी निरीक्षक कमलेश्वर सिंह आदि शामिल थे।

The action council for development of Kazhakuttom on Friday collected one lakh signatures from residents, government employees, IT professionals and rail passengers to apprise the Union Ministry of Railways and Railway Board of the need to initiate immediate steps to develop the Kazhakuttom railway station. The council observed a Black Day on Friday to protest against the neglect towards the Kazhakuttom station.A public meeting was organised near the railway station in the evening, general convener of the council John Venatius said in a release.

Unkempt surroundings and lack of facilities mar the MRTS stations in north Chennai. Liffy Thomas reports

A round clock with two faces, manufactured by Gani & Sons, dangling from the roof of the station grabs my attention as I alight at Chennai Fort. But, it is not ticking. Not bothering about the stench, dirt or dust, I walk up to the railway official's room on the platform and ask for the complaint register.

“Madam, the clock has not been working for months. The Railway is unable to find clock repairers,” he explains politely.

In the same breath he adds, that only stations with station masters have a complaint book and I must make an online complaint addressed to the Public Relation Officer. “The action will be quick, madam,” he assures, asking me to also include in the letter that the station has no water and toilet facility.

While it's a litany of woes at the 25-km long MRTS, the stations in north Chennai top the list. The inability of the Railway to maintain the stations has a telling impact on its patronage. But, for many residing in the northern belt, the MRTS is a lifeline.

For Geetha Sarvanan and Pooja, who commute to Kilpauk on work, the MRTS is the best mode of transport from Rajiv Gandhi Salai for it reduces travel time by half. “During monsoon, the station gets flooded and it is difficult to wade through it,” says Pooja, looking at Geetha threading jasmine flowers in the compartment. Compared to stations in the south, northern ones have better inter-nodal transport, but presents a sorry picture when it comes to maintenance.

Over 80,000 passengers use the MRTS every day and a good number of them travel to the northern part of the city. Passengers here have been demanding increase in frequency of trains during peak hours (9 car), clean water and toilet facility and refreshment stalls at the stations. For senior citizens and physically challenged they want a separate compartment.

“When the MRTS service started between Beach and Mylapore, travelling felt like luxury. The frequency of trains was less but we enjoyed every ride. Today, the service is deteriorating,” says Viji Sebastain, who travels to Beach station from Thiruvanmiyur on work.

With Chennai waiting for the first phase of Metro Rail project to commence, passengers hope it would not go the MRTS way.

COIMBATORE: The inaugural run of the Coimbatore-Rameswaram Weekly Express would be held on Sept 17 from here and from Rameswaram the next day in the return direction.

The train would leave Coimbatore at 7.45 PM to reach Rameswaram at 6.45 AM the next day and in the return direction would depart from Rameswaram at 7 PM on Wednesday to reach here at 6.40 AM the next day, a Southern Railway press release said today.

The trains will stop at Coimbatore North, Tirupur, Erode, Karur Junction, Tiruchirapalli, Pudukottai, ChettinadBSE 0.13 %, Karaikudi, Devakottai Road, Sivaganga, Manamadurai, Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram, Mandapam and Rameswaram, it said.

The advance reservations would open from tomorrow. Meanwhile, the frequency of the Coimbatore-Tirupati tri-weekly Express has been increased to four days per week.

The Coimbatore-Tirupati Express would leave here on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and in the return direction on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, it said.

However, there will be no change in the composition, timings and stoppages.

The additional service will be from sept 12 on both directions, the release said.

The Parel-Elphinstone railway bridge completes a century. In an era when mills have given way for malls and tall glass towers, this iron bridge built by the Great Indian Peninsula railway (now called Central Railway) in 1913 to replace a level crossing on the railway lines continues to serve loyally.“The bridge is a mix of stone and iron structure built by local contractors with material from Glasgow. It had an attached booking office to it on the Western Railway, one of the few railway stations to have one such,” recalls a railway engineer with the Central Railway.The Bombay Gazetteer states that the municipal body had refused to share cost of the bridge and the Great Indian Peninsula Railway went ahead and got it built at its own cost. The material had been shipped from P&W Works based at Glasgow in 1911 and by 1913 the bridge was ready. The bridge was built by Parsi railway contractors Contractor Bomanji Rustomji.Local residents, however, say that there was an old and temporary bridge at the location before this one came up. Seventy-year-old Parshuram Walje, an old resident of the area, says that he remembers his parents telling him about an old narrow, temporary iron bridge that was once at the location.“This large bridge became a necessity when motorised vehicles had begun to grow,” he said. Motorised vehicles were introduced in Bombay ten years before this bridge came up in the first decade of 20th century.

City historian Deepak Rao said these bridges over the railway were crucial to connect the east and the west over the two railway lines that vertically intersected the city.

SCR to Run A Special Trian Between Narasapur and Secunderabad



In order to clear extra rush of passengers, SCR will run a special train between Narasapur and Secuderabad as per the following schedule:-

Train No.07255 Narasapur-Hyderabad Special train will depart Narasapur at 20:00 hrs o­n 9th September, 2013 and arrive Secuderabad at 06:00 hrs o­n the next day.

Enroute, this special train will stop at  Palakolu, Bhimavaram Town, Akiveedu, Kaikalur, Gudivada, Vijayawada, Guntur, Sattenapalle, Piduguralla, Nadikude, Miryalaguda and Nalgonda stations.

This train will have 18 coaches viz., ten Sleeper Class, six General Second and two Second class luggage cum brake van coaches.
