The action council for development of Kazhakuttom on Friday collected one lakh signatures from residents, government employees, IT professionals and rail passengers to apprise the Union Ministry of Railways and Railway Board of the need to initiate immediate steps to develop the Kazhakuttom railway station. The council observed a Black Day on Friday to protest against the neglect towards the Kazhakuttom station.A public meeting was organised near the railway station in the evening, general convener of the council John Venatius said in a release.

बिलासपुर। भारतीय रेल में ग्रुप डी ((1800 ग्रेड पे)) की परीक्षा देश भर में एक साथ 27 अक्टूबर से 8 दिसंबर 2013 के बीच 5 चरणों में होगी। 20 हजार से अधिक पदों के लिए 50 लाख से ज्यादा उम्मीदवार किस्मत आजमाएंगे। इतनी अधिक संख्या को देखते हुए रेल मंत्रालय ने परीक्षार्थियों के नाम अल्फाबेट के आधार पर बांटे हैं।

रेलवे बोर्ड के डायरेक्टर स्टेब्लिशमेंट ((एन))-टू हर्षा दास ने भर्ती को लेकर सभी जोनों के महाप्रबंधक को पत्र जारी किया है। 4 सितंबर को जारी निर्देश में परीक्षा की तारीख तय करते हुए इसकी जानकारी परीक्षार्थियों तक पहुंचाने को कहा गया है। देश के 17 जोनल रेलवे में ग्रुप डी के 20 हजार से ज्यादा पदों पर 70 लाख से ज्यादा आवेदन जमा हुए हैं, लिहाजा परीक्षा को 5 चरणों में लेने की योजना बनी है। 50 लाख से ज्यादा उम्मीदवारों को लिखित परीक्षा के लिए पात्र पाया गया है, इसलिए परीक्षार्थियों की भीड़ को अल्फाबेट के आधार पर बांटकर कम किया गया है। रेलवे बोर्ड ने यह भी तय कर दिया है कि किस तारीख को किस-किस अक्षर ((अंग्रेजी के)) वाले उम्मीदवार शामिल होंगे।

पद घटे, उम्मीदवार बढ़े
वर्ष 2012 में हुई ग्रुप डी की परीक्षा में 4 लाख उम्मीदवारों ने अपनी किस्मत आजमाई थी। उस समय की परीक्षा 5700 पदों के लिए हुई थी। इस साल पर दो हजार हैं, लेकिन आवेदनों की संख्या पिछले साल से दोगुना हो गया है।

चार शहरों में होंगे सेंटर
रेलवे रिक्रूटमेंट सेल ने परीक्षा की तैयारी लगभग पूरी कर ली है। सवा सात लाख उम्मीदवारों के लिए बिलासपुर, रायपुर, दुर्ग-भिलाई से लेकर नागपुर में सेंटर बनाए गए हैं। अब परीक्षार्थियों को नजदीक में सेंटर दिया जा रहा है। अब उम्मीदवारों को उन शहरों में सेंटर दिया जा रहा है, जो उनके निवास से नजदीक है। परीक्षार्थियों को प्रवेश पत्र भेजने की प्रक्रिया शुरू हो गई है।

NF Railways to celebrate Bhupenda’s birthday

Guwahati, September 6: The NF Railways Cultural Association, Maligaon will celebrate Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s birthday with a two day programme starting from September 7. The association has invited Mintu Mukhopadhya as the Chief Guest for the two–day programme. Mukhopadhya, a Kolkata based lyricist, composer and music director was associated with Bhupenda for long 43 years. He was also the private secretary of the legendary musician for long period of time. The two–day programme will be kick start with the inauguration of a photo exhibition on Bhupenda on September 7 at Rangbhawan auditorium at NF Railway Maligaon headquarters. An exhibition on the old LP and EP records of Dr. Hazarika’s song has also been organised to showcase some old classic of Bhupenda. A programme tiled ‘those golden days’ is also being organised during the two day birthday celebration of legendary singer, informed the General Secretary of the association Bipul Bora.

RANCHI: Residents living away from Jharkhand for work or study will now have reason to cheer louder while planning a trip back home this festive season. Ranchi railway division has announced that it would run a special train and increase the frequency of another train to cater to the increased demand during Durga Puja.Thousands of students, professionals and workers who live outside Jharkhand come to the state to celebrate the festival with family. Also, a large number of people from Bihar and other states, who live in Jharkhand, go to their native land during the festival.The bookings for the two special trains started on Friday. The special train Ranchi to Katihar express train will run every Sunday and Wednesday. This train will embark on its first journey on October 6. The train service will be available till November 27. On its way to Katihar the train would stop at important stations like Muri, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Chitaranjan, Madhupur, Jasidih, Jhajha, Keul, Barauni, Begusarai, Khagadia and Naugachhiya."The train has been started to suit the needs of the passengers during the festive season. It would stop at all the stations from where a large number of passengers board the train to go to Bihar," said DRM Ranchi G Malaya. The train, comprising one AC III tier coach, four sleeper coaches, and eight general coaches, will depart from Ranchi railway station at 2.05pm and reach its destination at 6.35am the next day. The railways would charge mail express fare for the journey and services.The railways have increased the frequency of South India-bound weekly Hatia-Yeshwantpur Express. Now the train would run on Saturdays also. At present, the train runs on Sundays and Tuesdays. With one AC I tier and AC II tier coach, two AC III tier coaches, seven sleeper coaches, and five general coaches, the express train would continue to run on Saturdays till October 26.The Jharkhand Passengers Association (JPA) has welcomed the move of the railways. "It is not enough and the railways should give some more trains for Delhi, Pune and Kolkata," said JPA president R K Sarawgi.

The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), the information technology (IT) wing of the Indian Railways, has developed an enhanced new interface for the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) which provides the latest information on the running of trains to the public.

NTES is the backend system which collects information about train running on near real time basis and disseminates information through various interfaces like nationwide unique number 139, website, face to face enquiry, mobile interfaces and so on.

The new interface for the website was made public for past one week as field trial to get users’ feedback.

According to an official press release, the interface, which offers quick and easy access to essential information for passengers, has been largely appreciated for its speed, simple interface and richness of information and smooth user experience. This new interface has been launched with effect from September 6.

The main features of the website provided under different tabs on the home page are:

Spot your train: This query offers information about a train like schedule, current running status, expected time of arrival/expected time of departure (ETA/ETD) at queried station.
The complete running of the selected train can be seen through this interface.

Station: This query has been given to replicate the display boards at station. One can see, sitting at home, the trains expected to arrive/depart at any given station in next 2/4/6/8 hours.Stations can be entered through code or name or both. Option is also given to automatically refresh the screen every two minutes.

Trains between Stations: Covers all trains on Indian Railways between any two stations. This complete information is presently not available on any other government website.

Trains Cancelled: This query displays all trains cancelled on IR. The tab displays trains which are cancelled through entire route as well as cancelled partially and providing service on partial route.

Rescheduled and Diverted: These queries display all trains marked as rescheduled or diverted on IR. The respective tabs display trains rescheduled timings and diverted route (from – to) information.

Some general characteristics are that all train numbers in different pages have been given as hyperlinks to view the schedule and current running.

Pages have been kept light weight to enhance the speed of the website. All the information is navigable from a single home page with minimum clicks. Mobile version of the site is also available through same URL.

The interface has been made bilingual with Hindi version available on the website.

As part of the IR/CRIS ongoing efforts to enhance the quality and availability of information to public, new features such as separate pages for special trains and major events would be made available subsequently.

The existing website interface running as beta version will be replaced with the new interface. All other interfaces such as Events, Rail Radar, Rail Radar Fog View,  Special Trains and Mobile will be redirected to the new interface, the release added.

Caught travelling without a ticket last month, Nallasopara resident Kailash Gupta had produced a special pass, claiming it allowed him to travel for free; the railway court yesterday plainly told him that the pass was invalid and imposed a penalty September 07, 2013 MUMBAI Neha LM Tripathi

About two weeks back, railway officials had been befuddled by the claims made by a ticketless traveller, who claimed that he possessed a pass authorised by an adivasi king to travel in suburban and long distance trains for free. Yesterday, the Railway Court solved the mystery within minutes, asking the man – Nallasopara resident Kailash Gupta to pay a fine of Rs 500 as penalty for ticketless travelling. His was asked to either pay up or face imprisonment.Gupta, who had earlier claimed boldly that he had every right to travel free, meekly paid the fine amount and left. The Railway Court in Mumbai Central made it clear that Gupta was carrying documents which are not valid as per the railway rules, as a result of which he had to pay fine, or face arrest under section 420 of the IPC. The hearing began at 2 pm, with the judge asking one of Gupta’s fellow adivasis to explain their side of the story. In ten minutes, the judge passed the verdict that Gupta didn’t possess a valid pass to travel.

The case On August 24, Gupta was caught by ticket checker Manoj Tiwari inside the first class compartment of a Virar-bound fast train without a ticket. He refused to pay the fine, claiming to have a valid pass, which allowed him to travel freely all over the country. The pass contained images and names of kings such as late Kunwar Keshri Singh and 95-year-old Ballu Bhai, who is believed to be the present-day king of the country by the Adivasi group. MiD DAY had reported on the fracas (‘Ticketless traveller’s ‘adivasi’ pass bewilders RPF, magistrate,’ August 28).

At the hearing yesterday, Gupta’s lawyer P Thakur and a group of 15-20 people from the community accompanied him. One of the group members said, “We will continue to travel freely throughout the city irrespective of whatever happens.” Asked why their Raja wasn’t present for the hearing, he replied, “Ballu Bhai is the Raja. He doesn’t need to be present for such a small thing. He will only appear before the Prime Minister or President of the country.”

Unkempt surroundings and lack of facilities mar the MRTS stations in north Chennai. Liffy Thomas reports

A round clock with two faces, manufactured by Gani & Sons, dangling from the roof of the station grabs my attention as I alight at Chennai Fort. But, it is not ticking. Not bothering about the stench, dirt or dust, I walk up to the railway official's room on the platform and ask for the complaint register.

“Madam, the clock has not been working for months. The Railway is unable to find clock repairers,” he explains politely.

In the same breath he adds, that only stations with station masters have a complaint book and I must make an online complaint addressed to the Public Relation Officer. “The action will be quick, madam,” he assures, asking me to also include in the letter that the station has no water and toilet facility.

While it's a litany of woes at the 25-km long MRTS, the stations in north Chennai top the list. The inability of the Railway to maintain the stations has a telling impact on its patronage. But, for many residing in the northern belt, the MRTS is a lifeline.

For Geetha Sarvanan and Pooja, who commute to Kilpauk on work, the MRTS is the best mode of transport from Rajiv Gandhi Salai for it reduces travel time by half. “During monsoon, the station gets flooded and it is difficult to wade through it,” says Pooja, looking at Geetha threading jasmine flowers in the compartment. Compared to stations in the south, northern ones have better inter-nodal transport, but presents a sorry picture when it comes to maintenance.

Over 80,000 passengers use the MRTS every day and a good number of them travel to the northern part of the city. Passengers here have been demanding increase in frequency of trains during peak hours (9 car), clean water and toilet facility and refreshment stalls at the stations. For senior citizens and physically challenged they want a separate compartment.

“When the MRTS service started between Beach and Mylapore, travelling felt like luxury. The frequency of trains was less but we enjoyed every ride. Today, the service is deteriorating,” says Viji Sebastain, who travels to Beach station from Thiruvanmiyur on work.

With Chennai waiting for the first phase of Metro Rail project to commence, passengers hope it would not go the MRTS way.
