Indian Railways employees are going on a major strike in October involving about 1.4 million workers across the country, effectively sending shockwaves to a nation that has not seen any such major strike in the last four decades.The railways is the largest employer and its labour union – the All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) – has asked all its 1.4 million workers to strike work seeking implementation of Pay Commission recommendations.AIRF general secretary Shiva Gopal Mishra said the government has failed on its commitments. “We believe in industrial peace, but since we are not considered relevant by the government of the day, we have been forced to show our relevance by resorting to an indefinite strike,” Mishra told ET.Last time the railways took up such major strike in 1974 led by George Fernandes who was the AIRF leader. In fact, the 1974 railway strike was a massive one that forced Indira Gandhi to declare emergency that changed the face of the country.

It remains to be seen how the constituent railway unions respond. “There will have to be a secret ballot where all employees would vote for or against the strike call,” insists Mishra about their support.

said, adding that the AIRF was confident of other unions joining its movement as they have been party to the negotiations with the government and the railway ministry on several issues which have not been resolved.

Since the Communist parties and the Bhartiya Janata Party have relative control on these unions, besides the Congress, parleys between the political parties would be crucial now to resolve the issue.

Moreover, the government can move the apex court to declare the strike void as it is an essential service and any strike that disrupts key services to the citizens can be declared illegal by the government. Even one day’s strike would mean loss of billions of rupees, besides huge dismay to millions of travellers across the country.

Mohali: Passengers on board the Nangal-Ambala passenger train had to wait for over four hours at the Mohali railway station after the train developed a snag.The driver of the train Suresh Kumar applied brakes when he noticed smoke coming out of wheels of the engine and the front bogey at 9.40 am.More than 400 passengers were on board the train when the incident took place. A new engine was requisitioned from Chandigarh.“I have to go to Ambala to meet my relative. But the delay has upset my schedule,” said Jamna, a resident of Kiratpur Sahib.Ropar resident Hira Lal said: “I have to go to Ambala, but I will have to reschedule my programme.”The train resumed its journey around 2 pm.

KANPUR: A new Memu train will run between Kanpur and Barabanki by NCR. This train will depart from Kanpur Central everyday at 5.50 pm and reach Barabanki at 8.50 pm. It will depart from Barabanki everyday at 7.30 am and reach Kanpur Central at 10.10 am.The NCR authorities have also increased the frequency of trains. Train number 12469/12470 Kanpur-Jammu Tawi Express which used to run weekly will now run bi-weekly. Also train number 19409/19410 Gorakhpur-Ahmedabad Express, which used to run weekly, will run bi-weekly. 12877/12878 Ranchi-New Delhi Garib Rath Express will now run tri-weekly.The NCR authorities have also announced extension of a few trains. This list includes 18191/18192 Chappra-Kanpur Anwarganj express will now go upto Farrukhabad railway station. This will benefit the locals of Farrukhabad and beyond.The NCR has also announced for change in the date and timings of certain trains. 12275 Allahabad-New Delhi Duranto Express will now run on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Earlier, it used to run on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Train number 12276 New Delhi-Allahabad Duranto Express will run on Wednesday, Friday and Monday. Earlier, it used to run on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. These changes will come into affect from September 6.

Train number 12249 Howrah-New Delhi Yuva express will now run on Saturday. It will depart at 6.40 pm and reach Delhi at 11.25 on Sunday. Earlier this train used to depart from Howrah at 5.10 pm on Thursday and used to reach Delhi at 10.50 am on Friday.

Train number 12250 New Delhi-Howrah Yuva Express will now depart from Delhi on Sunday at 8.05 pm Sunday and reach Howrah at 12.25 pm on Monday. Earlier, this train used to depart from Delhi on Sunday at 4.10 pm and reach Howrah at 10.40 am on Monday. This change will come into affect from September 7.

All these trains pass through Kanpur Central Railway Station. The passengers should take a note of the new timings.

It also includes a the much awaited LTT-Hazrat Nizamuddin Air Conditioned Weekly special service. This train with 16-coach will depart from LTT and Hazrat Nizamuddin on every Tuesday and Wednesday. Among the new services from Mumbai are LTT- Karaikal Weekly Express via Wadi-Chennai Egmore-Nagapattinam-Nagore, LTT -Ajni(Nagpur) Weekly Express via Akola-Hingoli Aurangabad-Manmad, LTT- Nizamabad Weekly Express via Mudkhed-Nanded-Purna-Aurangabad-Manmad, CST-Solapur Daily Express via Thane-Panvel-Karjat-Pune, LTT-Kochuveli Bi-weekly Weekly via Madgaon-Mangalore Jn - Kottayam, LTT-Kakinada Bi- Weekly Express via Guntur-Nadikude-Nalgunda-Secunderabad-Wadi. The pilgrimage town of Shirdi has also become a popular destination and railways have to cash in on this trend by introducing a few more services to cater to Sai Baba devotees. CR official said, "We have decided to run Sainagar Shirdi - Kalka Bi-Weekly Express via Hazrat Nizamuddin-Bhopal-Itarsi-Khandwa. Another services linking Sainagar Shirdi to Puri via Sambalpur-Titlagarh-Raipur-Nagpur-Bhusawal has also been scheduled on weekly basis." Morever, LTT-Bhubaneswar Express (Weekly) will now run upto Puri and LTT-Darbhanga Karma Bhoomi Express has been extended utp Raxaul.

East Coast Railway on Friday said timings of 25 trains under its jurisdiction were changed.The changed schedule would come into effect from July 1. Puri-New Delhi Purusottam Express – one of the most popular trains - will leave Puri at 9.45 p.m. instead of its present scheduled departure at 9.50 p.m.Another train, Puri-Haridwar Express will leave Puri at 08.55 p.m. instead of 9 p.m. Timings of this train at Khurda Road, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Jajpur Keonjhar Road and Bhadrak will be differed, said ECoR in a statement.Trains Puri-Hatia Tapaswini Express, Puri-Howrah Express, Puri-Barbil and Puri-Paradeep Express would follow a new timetable.Similarly, timings of Rourkela-Bhubaneswar Inter City Express, Rourkela-Koraput Inter City Express, Sambalpur-Puri Inter City Express, Titilagarh-Howrah Express, Rayagada-Ttitilagarh Inter City Express, Durg-Jagadalpur Express, Sambalpur-Varanasi Express, Sambalpur-Rayagada Inter City Express, Sambalpur-Nanded Express, Visakhapatnam-Secunderabad Express at Visakhapatnam, Puri-Okha Express and Visakhapatnam-Shalimar Express have been changed.

There will be different timings for Puri-LTT Express, Puri-Valsad and Puri-Bikaner Express. East Coast Railway has also changed the timings of local passenger trains. Lokmanya Tilak terminus (LTT)-Bhubaneswar-LTT Express will be extended to Puri while Bhubaneswar-Bhawanipatna-Bhubaneswar Express will be extended to Junagarh.

ECoR said frequency of Sambalpur-Nanded-Sambalpur Bi-weekly Express and Visakhapatnam-Nanded-Visakhapatnam Bi-weekly Express will run three days in a week instead of earlier two days in a week. Similarly, Visakhapatnam-LTT-Visakhapatnam Express will run daily instead of earlier two days in a week. It said the date of increase in frequency of these trains would be notified at a later stage.

Besides, several weekly trains would now leave their respective originating stations from a different date. They include Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Duronto Express, and Bhubaneswar-Tirupaty Express.

New trains

From July 1, 12 new trains will be placed in the new time table and the introduction of these new trains will be notified in due course.

These trains include Bhubaneswar-New Delhi weekly Express, Bhubaneswar-Tirupaty Weekly Express, Puri-Sainagar Shirdi-Puri and Visakhapatnam- Gandhidham- Visakhapatnam.

A 32-year-old head constable was killed and an ASI received serious injuries after the car they were travelling in collided with a speeding train near Jassi Baghwali village here today. The railway traffic remained suspended for over an hour following the mishap.The accident occurred at around 2.15 pm when ASI Mukhtiar Singh and head constable Surinderpal Singh of the Sangat police station were going towards Bandi village in a Maruti Alto car with the ASI at the wheel.The policemen were assigned an inquiry concerning a land dispute in the village.On Jassi Baghwali-Bandi road, while they were trying to cross the C-21, an unmanned railway crossing on the Bathinda-Hanumangarh railway line, a train coming from Dabwali towards Bathinda hit with the car.While the ASI fell off the car, the head constable got sandwiched between the train and the car.The Sangat police station in-charge, Sandeep Bhati, said the policemen were on duty and were on way to investigate a case. "We have no idea how the accident happened and it is being probed," the SHO said.The SHO rushed to the spot and shifted the injured ASI to the Civil Hospital from where he was referred to the Max Superspeciality.The ASI received a serious spinal cord injury besides fractures in an arm and a leg.The police said the doctors stated that the ASI was out of danger but will take a long time to recover completely.The deceased head constable was a resident of Lohara village in Muktsar district. He had two children, including a 15-year-old boy and an eight-year-old daughter.ASI Mukhtiar Singh lives in a rented accommodation in Bathinda.It is pertinent to mention here that a large number of road deaths are reported in the past on the unmanned railway crossing as the approaching train is not usually spotted by the passersby.Pali Mashana, a volunteer of the Sangat Sahara, said despite umpteen requests and representations to the district administration and railway officials, nothing was done to convert the unmanned crossing into a manned one.

New Delhi: The new time table of Northern Railways will come into effect from the midnight of June 30. This year, a total of 42 passenger trains are being added, out of which 33 trains would be mail and express trains and nine would be local trains. Northern Railways has also announced two Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) trains and one MEMU train for the National Capital Region (NCR). The routes and timings for the new trains have been finalised. In the new time table, the frequency of 9 express trains has been increased and the routes of 17 have been expanded. According to the new time table, 10 trains would now run during the day instead of night and the numbers of two trains have been changed.AC Express from New Delhi Railway Station to Katra would run for 6 days a week and Superfast train would run from New Delhi Railway Station to Bhubaneshwar. A new train would run from Delhi Sarai Rohilla Station to Ferozpur, Sikar and Rajkot. Lokmanya Tilak AC Express would now run from Hazrat Nizzamudin Station, Delhi to Thiruvananthapuram. New trains would be flagged off from Old Delhi Railway Station to Chapra, Ambala Cantonment and Hoshiyarpur.

नकोदर, फिरोजपुर और पठानकोट रूट पर डीएमयू में चलनेवाले यात्रियों को अगले पंद्रह दिन और भीड़भाड़ झेलनी होगी। इन रूट पर चलने वाली डीएमयू में कोच बढ़ाने की मांग उठने के बाद दैनिक भास्कर ने यह पड़ताल की कि आखिर रेलवे यात्रियों की समस्या पर गौर क्यों नहीं कर रहा। पता चला है कि डिवीजन में डीएमयू के पावर इंजन की शॉर्टेज है।
एक पावर इंजन कोच तीन ही डिब्बे खींच सकता है। डिवीजन में डिब्बे तो पर्याप्त हैं, लेकिन पावर इंजन के लिए डिमांड भेजी गई है। साउथ ईस्टर्न रेलवे की ओर से पावर कोच जालंधर भेजा रहा है। दो पावर कोच के साथ चार डिब्बे भी आ रहे हैं। यही नहीं, डीएमयू शेड ने सीएमओ को डीएमयू को डीजल इंजन लगाकर चलाने का भी प्रस्ताव दिया है।
तीन रूट पर ज्यादा समस्या पठानकोट, नकोदर ट्रैक पर केवल तीन कोच वाली डीएमयू चलाई जा रही है। जिसके चलते यात्रियों को काफी परेशानी का सामना करना पड़ रहा है।  नकोदर रूट पर तो लोगों ने शुक्रवार को प्रदर्शन भी किया था। पठानकोट जाने वाली एक डीएमयू में छह कोच लगाए जा सकते हैं। लेकिन अभी तीन ही लगे हैं। कारण पावर इंजन का न होना। फिरोजपुर जाने वाली सिक्स कोच डीएमयू की जगह थ्री कोच डीएमयू चलाई जा रही है।
फिरोजपुर रूट पर ज्यादा डीएमयू
जालंधर से फिरोजपुर सेक्शन में सबसे अधिक दस अप और डाउन की डीएमयू चलती है। जालंधर-होशियारपुर सेक्शन में नौ अप-डाउन डीएमयू चलती है। जालंधर जेजो सेक्शन में तीन अप-डाउन, जालंधर-पठानकोट सेक्शन में पांच अप-डाउन और जालंधर-नकोदर सेक्शन में चार अप-डान डीएमयू चलती है। जिनमें अक्सर भीड़ ही होती है।
जरूरत ४० पावर की, हैं सिर्फ ३३ जालंधर के डीएमयू शेड में इस समय मात्र 33 पावर कोच है। जबकि जरूरत 40 पावर कोच की है। जब पावर कोच अधिक होते हैं तो डीएमयू के दोनों तरफ लगाकर अधिक डिब्बे लगा दिए जाते हैं। अधिकारियों ने बताया कि चारबाग वर्कशाप में भी सात पावर कोच को ओवरहॉलिंग के लिए भेजा गया है। वह भी 15 दिन के भीतर जालंधर पहुंच जाएंगे। तो समस्या का समाधान हो जाएगा।
अभी बाकी है सावन का मेला
होशियारपुर ट्रैक पर अभी तो तीन कोच की डीएमयू से काम चल जा रहा है, लेकिन अगले महीने सावन में जब चाले शुरू होंगे और माता चिंतपूर्णी के दर्शन के लिए लोग जत्थों में जाना शुरू करेंगे, तो भीड़ चरम पर पहुंच जाएगी। तब नौबत यह आ जाती है कि लोग ट्रेन की छतों पर सफर करते हैं। छह डिब्बे लगा दिए जाने पर भी जगह कम पड़ जाती है।

नई दिल्ली। रिलायंस द्वारा एयरपोर्ट मेट्रो एक्सप्रेस का परिचालन बंद करने के बाद की स्थिति से निपटने के लिए डीएमआरसी (दिल्ली मेट्रो रेल कारपोरेशन) ने सौ सदस्यीय टीम का गठन किया है। डीएमआरसी के परिचालन निदेशक शरत शर्मा के नेतृत्व में गठित की गई इस टीम में ऑपरेशन, ट्रैक्सन, इलेक्टिकल, मेंटीनेंस, सिविल, सिंग्नलिंग, कम्युनिकेशन, सिक्योरिटी, रोलिंग स्टॉक और फाइनेंस आदि विभाग से जुड़े अधिकारियों और कर्मचारियों को शामिल किया गया है।

दिल्ली एयरपोर्ट मेट्रो एक्सप्रेस लिमिटेड द्वारा जारी नोटिस के अनुसार तीस जून की रात्रि से रिलायंस द्वारा एयरपोर्ट मेट्रो एक्सप्रेस का परिचालन बंद करने की स्थिति में यह टीम एयरपोर्ट मेट्रो के परिचालन को पूरी तरह के टेकओवर कर लेगा। इससे मुसाफिरों को निर्बाध रूप से नई दिल्ली से एयरपोर्ट होते हुए द्वारका सेक्टर 21 तक मेट्रो की सेवाएं उपब्ध कराई जा सकें।

डीएमआरसी के कार्यकारी निदेशक अनुज दयाल के अनुसार 22.8 किलोमीटर लंबी एक्सप्रेस लाइन पर उत्पन्न होने वाली किसी भी आपातकालीन परिस्थितियों से निपटने के लिए डीएमआरसी के प्रबंध निदेशक मंगू सिंह ने सात सदस्यीय कोर टीम का गठन भी किया है। इसके अतिरिक्त सौ सस्यीय टीम में परिचालन के लिहाज से हर स्तर के अधिकारियों एवं कर्मचारियों को शामिल किया गया है। परिस्थितियों को ध्यान में रखते हुए सभी प्रकार की मेट्रो का परिचालन करने में सक्षम डीएमआरसी के एक दल ने एयरपोर्ट लाइन और स्टॉक का निरीक्षण कार्य भी पूरा कर लिया है। वहीं द्वारका सेक्टर 21 स्थित आपरेशन कंट्रोल रूप से एयरपोर्ट मेट्रो के परिचालन को चलाने के लिए आपरेशन कंट्रोल मैनेजर की नियुक्ति भी कर दी गई है।

इस रूट पर परिचालन के लिहाज से उत्पन्न होने वाले आपातकालीन स्थिति से निपटने के लिए एक अलग से टीम तैयार की गई है। वहीं रिलायंस द्वारा उत्पन्न किए गए गतिरोध को खत्म करने के लिए डीएमआरसी के डायरेक्टर (वर्क) जीतेंद्र त्यागी, डायरेक्टर (आपरेशन) शरत शर्मा, डायरेक्टर (इलेक्ट्रिकल) एके गुप्ता, और जनरल मैनेजर (आपरेशन) विकास कुमार लगातार दिल्ली एयरपोर्ट मेट्रो एक्सप्रेस प्राइवेट लिमिटेड के अधिकारियों के साथ बैठक कर रहे हैं। उल्लेखनीय है कि २७ जून को दिल्ली एयरपोर्ट मेट्रो एक्सप्रेस प्राइवेट लिमिटेड की ओर से डीएमआरसी को भेजे गए पत्र में ३० जून को एयरपोर्ट मेट्रो का परिचालन बंद करने की बात कही गई थी।
