Officials of the Commissioner of Railways Safety (CRS) completed inspection of the Chandigarh-Ludhiana rail link on Monday.
The inspection will be followed by a trial that will be conducted during night. Northern railway division railway manager PK Sanghi said the inspection was completed, and a speed trail would follow it.The rail link has been constructed in three phases, of which two phases are already functional. The first phase, Chandigarh-Morinda line, was completed in September 2006, while in second phase, Sahnewal-Ludhiana line, was opened in November 2012. In February 2013, the remaining portion was completed.The project was approved in 1997, and even after lapses of several deadlines, the complete rail link is yet to be operational even after 16 years. The delay has increased the project cost manifold - Rs. 250 crore in 2000 to more than Rs. 1,000 crore at present.PK Sanghi said the link would become operational following the CRS reports.In the Railway Budget, railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal had announced that the Chandigarh-Ludhiana link would become operational by March 31.

रेलवे सफर के 160 साल पूरे हो गए। आज जब देश में हाई स्पीड बुलेट ट्रेनों को चलाने की बात हो रही है, तब यह जानना काफी रोचक है कि कभी बैल भी ट्रेन को खींचा करते थे। आज 200 हॉर्स पावर के इंजन की जगह छह हजार हॉर्स पावर के इंजन ट्रेन को खींच रहे हैं। पहली ट्रेन जब चली थी, तो 400 यात्रियों ने इसका लुत्फ उठाया था। आज रोजाना ढाई करोड़ लोग ट्रेन से सफर करते हैं। मंगलवार को ट्रेन को दौड़ते हुए 160 साल पूरे हो गए। कभी छुक-छुक करते भाप के इंजन से शुरू हुआ रेलवे का सफर नॉन स्टॉप दुरंतो तक जा पहुंचा है। डबल डेकर ट्रेन भी ट्रैक पर उतर चुकी है। 1855 का ‘फेयरी क्वीन’ इंजन आज भी ट्रैक पर दौड़ रहा है। हरियाणा के रेवाड़ी में एक लोको शेड तैयार किया गया, जहां 10 से अधिक भाप इंजन को संजो कर रखे गए हैं।
सबसे पहली ट्रेन
भारत में सबसे पहले मुंबई से ठाणे के बीच 16 अप्रैल 1853 को भाप इंजन से ट्रेन चली थी। इस ट्रेन में 14 कोच लगे थे, जिसे लोकोमोटिव सुल्तान, सिंध और साहिब नाम के इंजन खींच रहे थे। आज करीब 19 हजार डीजल और इलेक्ट्रिक इंजन ट्रेन को खींच रहे हैं।
7500 स्टेशन पर रुकती हैं ट्रेन
आज 160 साल बाद साढ़े सात हजार स्टेशनों के बीच ट्रेन चल रही है। इसी तरह जब पहली बार रेल चली थी, तो महज 400 लोग सवार हुए थे। आज ट्रेन की सवारी रोजना ढाई करोड़ से अधिक लोग कर रहे हैं।
वर्तमान में भारत में रेल का जाल 64 हजार 600 किलोमीटर तक फैल गया है। 1 लाख 15 हजार किलोमीटर ट्रैक पर आने-जाने के रास्ते है। भारतीय रेलवे का नेटवर्क दुनिया में अमेरिका, रूस और
चीन के बाद चौथा सबसे बड़ा है। शुरुआती दौर में मुंबई से ठाणे के बीच महज 34 किलोमीटर का ही ट्रैक तैयार किया गया था।
चीन से पिछड़े, 65 साल में सिर्फ 11हजार किमी. बढ़े
आजादी के बाद रेलवे के इतिहास की कुछ विडंबनाएं भी रहीं। भारत में पहली ट्रेन 1853 में दौड़ी थी, जबकि चीन में इसके 23 साल बाद यानी 1876 में ट्रेन चली। जब देश आजाद हुआ तो यहां रेल नेटवर्क
की लंबाई 53,596 किलोमीटर थी, जबकि चीन का रेल नेटवर्क मजह 27 हजार किमी. ही था।
इसके विपरीत आज भारत में जहां महज 64 हजार 600 किलोमीटर का नेटवर्क है, वहीं चीन का रेलवे नेटर्व 78 हजार
किलोमीटर पहुंच गया है। रेलवे अधिकारी भी मानते हैं कि आजादी के बाद तकनीक का तो विकास हुआ, यात्रियों की संख्या भी बढ़ी, लेकिन ट्रैक निर्माण में वृद्धि नहीं हुई। आंकड़े बताते हैं कि 1980 में जहां 61,240
किलोमीटर रेलवे का नेटवर्क था,
वहीं 2012 में 64,600 यानी 32 साल में महज 3,360 किलोमीटर ही रेल लाइन को बिछाने में कामयाबी मिली। इतना ही नहीं 20, 275 किमी पर ही इलेक्ट्रिक ट्रेन दौड़ती है, जो कुल नेटवर्क का महज 31.39 प्रतिशत ही है। अंग्रेजों ने कालका-शिमला ट्रैक को महज
10 साल में तैयार कर लिया था, लेकिन आजादी के बाद श्रीनगर प्रोजेक्ट 40 साल में भी तैयार नहीं हो सका।

In a recent move, Dhaka and Delhi have agreed to build a rail connection between Akhaura in Bangladesh and India's Tripura state, a link that would not only boost cross-border trade but also enable India to access its remote northeastern states far faster, via Bangladesh.Abul Kalam Azad, secretary to Economic Relations Division of the Ministry of Finance, and Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Pankaj Saran, signed a pact February 16th to build a 20km track between Akhaura, a major rail hub in the Chittagong Division of Bangladesh, and Agartala, the capital of Tripura state.Under the deal, Delhi would provide over $60.3m in aid for the project, expected to be completed in two years. At present, there is only one rail link between India and Bangladesh, between Dhaka and Kolkata.

BHOPAL: The process of inviting tenders to prepare the Detailed Project Report ( DPR) for the metro rail services in Bhopal and Indore has reached its last stages.Giving this information, State Urban Development and Administration Minister, Babulal Gaur told reporters here that the metro rail would move on 28.5 kms while in Indore this distance would be 32.16 kms. The Minister said an estimated Rs 6000 crore would be spent on the metro rail in Bhopal, while it will cost Rs 7500 crore in Indore.Gaur said that a total of 24 overbridges would be made in Bhopal and pointed out that the one at the Jyoti Talkies square would be inaugurated today itself.A sum of Rs 3900 crore was being spent on development works in urban areas of the state including drinking water schemes and creation of infrastrucutre, he said.

जासं, नई दिल्ली : उर्स और गर्मी की छुट्टियों में यात्रियों की सुविधा के मद्देनजर उत्तर रेल प्रशासन ने छपरा-अजमेर-छपरा और इलाहाबाद व ऊधमपुर के बीच विशेष ट्रेनें चलाने का फैसला किया है। ऐसे में नियमित ट्रेनों में चल रही लंबी वेटिंग लिस्ट के बीच यात्री विशेष ट्रेनों में सीट आरक्षित करवाकर आरामदायक सफर कर सकते हैं।
छपरा-अजमेर एक्सप्रेस : यह उर्स विशेष ट्रेन (संख्या-05103) 15 मई की रात 8:30 बजे छपरा से चलकर अगले दिन रात 11:55 बजे अजमेर पहुंचेगी। वापसी में यह ट्रेन (संख्या-05104) अजमेर से 19 मई की शाम 6:40 बजे चलकर अगले दिन रात 9:30 बजे छपरा पहुंचेगी। दोनों दिशाओं में यह ट्रेन सीवान, देवरिया सदर, गोरखपुर, खलीलाबाद, बस्ती, गोंडा, बाराबंकी, बादशाह नगर, लखनऊ, कानपुर, इटावा, टूंडला, आगरा फोर्ट, सवाई माधोपुर, बनस्थली निवाई, जयपुर, किशनगढ़ और मदार स्टेशनों पर ठहरेगी।
इलाहाबाद-ऊधमपुर सुपर फास्ट एक्सप्रेस : यह विशेष ट्रेन (संख्या- 04113) 27 अप्रैल से 29जून के बीच हर शनिवार दोपहर बाद 3:20 बजे इलाहाबाद से चलकर अगले दिन दोपहर बाद 3:50 बजे ऊधमपुर पहुंचेगी। वहीं, वापसी में यह गाड़ी (संख्या- 04114) ऊधमपुर से 28 अप्रैल से 30 जून के बीच हर रविवार शाम 7:30 बजे चलकर अगले दिन रात 10:15 बजे इलाहाबाद पहुंचेगी। दोनों दिशाओं में यह ट्रेन फतेहपुर, कानपुर, इटावा, टूंडला, अलीगढ़, खुर्जा, हापुड़, मेरठ, सहारनपुर, अंबाला छावनी, लुधियाना, जालंधर छावनी, चक्की बैंक तथा जम्मूतवी स्टेशनों पर ठहरेगी।

“Politicians seem to have no time for the problems of passengers”

The Waltair Division of East Coast Railway (E. Co. R) has bagged the unique distinction of being among the select few Divisions in the country to have crossed the 50 MT mark in freight loading by achieving originating loading of 51.54 MT and freight revenue of Rs.5275.83 crore during the just concluded financial year.So, what’s the incentive it got for its consistent performance year after year? “Diversion of trains, diversion of facilities like Wagon Repair Shop (WRS) to Odisha, reduction of the quota of berths … and the list seems endless,” say former railway union leaders, Railway Zone Sadhana Samithi leaders and others, who have been consistently fighting against the ‘injustice’ being done to Waltair Division.Unfortunately, our people’s representatives have already gone into election mode for the 2014 general elections and seem to have no time for the problems of railway passengers.On April 10, ECoR announced the augmentation of AC coaches on 14 pairs of trains.There is hardly anything to cheer about for the people of Waltair Division. Only one train from Visakhapatnam to Korba was given an additional III AC coach, while the remaining AC coaches have been augmented to trains originating from Bhubaneswar and Puri. Coaches are generally added to trains, which have huge wait lists over and above the capacity of the class of coach. A large number of people prefer AC to Sleeper Class during summer.

There are about 16 trains originating from Visakhapatnam and 47 AC coaches are at the disposal of the Vizag base. The coach composition of most of these trains remained the same since their introduction.

Representatives of various organisations fighting against the injustice to Waltair Division allege that the augmentation of AC coaches was so chosen so as to avoid Visakhapatnam in most cases and some were not even running through AP.

It’s high time our MP s wake up at least now and live up to the aspirations of the people, whom they represent.

भारतीय रेल सेवा के १६० वर्ष पूरे होने के अवसर पर केंद्रीय रेल मंत्री पवन कुमार बंसल ने मंगलवार को डहाणू- चर्चगेट लोकल ट्रेन सेवा का हरी झंडी दिखाकर शुभारंभ किया। इस मौके पर उन्होंने कहा कि १२४ किमी के इस नयी लोकल सेवा के शुरू होने से डहाणू इलाके के आदिवासी लोगों की आर्थिक स्थिति में सुधार होगा।

रेल मंत्री बंसल ने इस अवसर पर विरार कार शेड का भी उद्घाटन किया। डहाणू-चर्चगेट लोकल ट्रेन सेवा के उद्घाटन समारोह को संबोधित करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि कुल सवा दो करोड़ रेल यात्रियों में से ५३ फीसदी उपनगरीय यात्री हैं। जिसमें से मुंबई उपनगरीय खंड के करीब ६१ प्रतिशत यात्री हैं।

रेल मंत्री ने कहा कि मुंबई आर्थिक राजधानी होने की वजह से देश के सकल घरेलू उत्पाद (जीडीपी) में इसका हमेशा अधिक योगदान रहता है। यही वजह है कि मुंबई वासियों की सेवाओं के प्रावधान और बुनियादी सुविधाओं को बढ़ाने को हमेशा प्राथमिकता दी जाती है। विशेषकर उपनगरों के लोगों के लिए। गौरतलब है कि ठाणे जिले के डहाणू इलाके में हुए इस कार्यक्रम में मुख्यमंत्री पृथ्वीराज चव्हाण, यहां के प्रभारी मंत्री गणेश नाईक भी उपस्थित थे।

VIJAYAWADA:
Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Pradeep Kumar presented awards to the employees and officers, who exhibited extraordinary performance in discharging their duties. Participating in the 58{+t}{+h}Railway Week Celebrations here on Tuesday, the DRM gave individual awards to 772 South Central Railway (SCR) employees, 86 group awards and the awards to 18 officers. He presented 14 efficiency shields to best officers, on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Pradeep Kumar appealed to the employees to work with dedication. Additional DRM S. Subba Rao and others were present.

The rail budget for 2013-14 was disappointing and did not give sufficient funds to Himachal Pradesh to implement projects, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said on Tuesday. Expressing his unhappiness with the budget, presented by his Congress party colleague, Railway Minister P.K. Bansal, Virbhadra Singh said in the assembly:

Union Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs K.V. Thomas has said the Kerala Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organisation’s (KITCO) report on elevating Ernakulam Junction railway station to one of international standards will be ready within three months.Speaking at a meeting convened here to discuss about various railway projects, Mr. Thomas said action based on the report would be executed in a time-bound manner, with the support of the Union government and public sector units. The station would be renovated in the traditional Kerala architectural style.A design in this regard had been readied and Kitco was appointed as consultant to prepare a detailed technical report and estimate, he said.Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Agarwal said the now unused Railway line that links Pachalam with the ERG yard (the Old Railway Station)would be brought back to life, as a prelude to renovating the station.
