Walking in and out of the platforms of Bhubaneswar railway station will become effortless shortly with the East Coast Railway authorities finishing work on one of two proposed escalators.The station, which falls in the A1 category of Indian Railways, will be the first in the state to have escalators.Sources in the East Coast Railway (ECoR) said technical tests of the facility on platform No. 1 had been completed and the link between the escalator and foot overbridge was nearly complete.However, the facility would be opened to the public only after a similar escalator was built on platform No. 4. Its construction is yet to begin. So, passengers will have to wait at least till August to use the travelling staircase and make their way around.Chief public relations officer of ECoR R.N. Mohapatra said: “The ECoR has been trying its best to provide modern facilities to passengers. Both the escalators and a VIP lounge will be thrown open to the public in August.”The ECoR had decided to build the two escalators at the railway station at an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore. This is part of the railway’s Rs 205-crore plan to upgrade the Bhubaneswar railway station.The facility will considerably help senior citizens, disabled passengers and those carrying heavy luggage who find it difficult to climb up and down the steps of the foot overbridge to catch a train.“The escalators will be helpful as most of the time we have to rush up and down the foot overbridges, pushing through crowds. The escalators will enable us to reach the foot overbridges directly,” said Deepak Mohanty, a passenger.

Once work on this facility is over, two more escalators would be set up at the station connecting another foot overbridge. The station has two foot overbridges. But the tender process for the additional two escalators has not been initiated yet.

Nearly seven lakh passengers use the Bhubaneswar railway station every month and annual passenger growth was 20 per cent. More than 120 trains originate or pass through the Bhubaneswar railway station on a daily basis.

Passengers have also been complaining about lack of other facilities at the station.

“Most of the A1 stations of the country have already installed escalators for passenger comfort. Bhubaneswar is an important station, and so, the authorities must provide modern facilities such as food courts and VIP lounges,” said Mukesh Parida, a passenger.

In September last year, the ECoR had declared the massive Rs 205-crore plan to upgrade the railway station. The makeover plan included multi-level parking, a new station building, two additional platforms and a flyover at Master Canteen Square. The plan would be implemented in a phase wise manner.

Part of the plan also included setting up a second railway station, called New Bhubaneswar, between Barang and the existing Bhubaneswar station. Keeping in mind the high volume of rail traffic, the ECoR has planned to build New Bhubaneswar as a satellite passenger terminal for Bhubaneswar city. While the Bhubaneswar station is located in the southern side of the state capital, New Bhubaneswar will cater to the city’s northern part.

BHOPAL: The process of inviting tenders to prepare the Detailed Project Report ( DPR) for the metro rail services in Bhopal and Indore has reached its last stages.Giving this information, State Urban Development and Administration Minister, Babulal Gaur told reporters here that the metro rail would move on 28.5 kms while in Indore this distance would be 32.16 kms. The Minister said an estimated Rs 6000 crore would be spent on the metro rail in Bhopal, while it will cost Rs 7500 crore in Indore.Gaur said that a total of 24 overbridges would be made in Bhopal and pointed out that the one at the Jyoti Talkies square would be inaugurated today itself.A sum of Rs 3900 crore was being spent on development works in urban areas of the state including drinking water schemes and creation of infrastrucutre, he said.

भोपाल। भोपाल से बीना के बीच बुधवार को भले ही मेन लाइन इलेक्ट्रिकल मल्टीपल यूनिट (मेमू) ट्रेन शुरू हो जाएगी, लेकिन इससे यात्रियों को फिलहाल नई सुविधा नहीं मिलेगी। क्योंकि इसे अभी भोपाल-बीना पैसेंजर की जगह चलाया जा रहा है। मेमू भी उतना ही समय लेगी जितना पैसेंजर ट्रेन ले रही है और फेरा भी फिलहाल एक ही रहेगा। भोपाल रेलवे स्टेशन के प्लेटफार्म क्रमांक ६ पर सुबह १० बजे आयोजित समारोह में मुख्य अतिथि लोकसभा में नेता प्रतिपक्ष सुषमा स्वराज व विशेष अतिथि मुख्यमंत्री शिवराज सिंह चौहान हरी झंडी दिखाकर मेमू को रवाना करेंगे।

सबसे कम किराया पांच रुपए

यात्रियों से कम किराया 5 रुपए भोपाल से दीवानगंज स्टेशन तक का लिया जाएगा। अधिकतम किराया 25 रुपए बीना स्टेशन तक का लगेगा। गत एक अप्रैल से किराए को पूर्णांक में लिए जाने की प्रक्रिया के बाद सभी पैसेंजर ट्रेन का किराया 5 के गुणांक में लिया जाने लगा है। इसी कड़ी में मेमू का किराया भी फिलहाल भोपाल-बीना पैसेंजर के बराबर और टाइम-टेबल भी उसी का लागू किया जा रहा है। 18 अप्रैल से मेमू ट्रेन को सुबह 10.20 बजे बीना की ओर चलाया जाएगा।

फिलहाल नए प्लेटफार्म का उद्घाटन नहीं : पहले मेमू ट्रेन को हरी झंडी दिखाने के साथ नए बने प्लेटफार्म क्रमांक छह के उद्घाटन का कार्यक्रम प्रस्तावित किया गया था, लेकिन प्लेटफार्म पर कुछ निर्माण कार्य बाकी रहने और रेल मंत्री पवन बंसल का दौरा तय नहीं होने से इसे टाल दिया गया। अब माना जा रहा है कि नए प्लेटफार्म का कार्य पूरा होने और डबल डेकर ट्रेन चलाने के लिए व्यवस्थाएं पूरी होने के बाद रेलमंत्री का दौरा तय होगा।


बाद में तय होंगे फेरे और टाइम-टेबल

मेमू को कितने फेरों में चलाया जाएगा, यह बाद में तय किया जाएगा। डीआरएम राजीव चौधरी का कहना है कि यात्रियों की मांग और फीडबैक के आधार पर रेलवे प्रशासन जल्द ही मेमू के फेरे व टाइम-टेबल में परिवर्तन करेगा।

The Tamil Nadu Police and Railway Protection Force personnel conducted a search in Nagercoil-Tirupathi-Mumbai Expressin the early hours of Sunday after the Madurai railway control room received an anonymous call that a bomb had been planted in that train and it would explode any time.Superintendent of Police M. Manivannan alerted the police officials. A team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Udayakumar checked the Mumbai Express and also Kanyakumari Express, Coimbatore Express, Guruyayur Express and Ananthapurai Express. The call proved to be a hoax.

TIRUCHI:
The Tiruchi Railway Division carried more passengers in the 2012-13 fiscal as compared to the previous year recording an increase of 14.5 per cent, Divisional Railway Manager Manjula Rangarajan said on Tuesday.The division carried 4.27 crore passengers in 2012-13 compared to 3.73 crore passengers in 2011-12, Ms. Manjula Rangarajan said speaking at the 58th Railway Week celebrations here.The division, she said had maintained punctuality exceeding the target in 2012-13.

KHAMMAM:A farm worker was killed and two others injured when a goods train rammed into a tractor trolley at an unmanned level-crossing between Motamarri and Mellacheruvu under the jurisdiction of the Khammam Government Railway Police on Tuesday afternoon. U. Satyam (45), a labourer of Mellacheruvu village in Nalgonda district, died on the spot .

Southern Railway had announced special trains between Chennai Beach – Velachery on MRTS section in view of the IPL Season VI cricket matches being held  at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai (refer Press release no. 5 dated 05.04.2013).  The timings of the special trains on 22nd & 25thApril, 2013 and 14th (instead of 16th as announced earlier), 21st & 22nd May, 2013 are revised as follows.

VIJAYAWADA:
Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Pradeep Kumar presented awards to the employees and officers, who exhibited extraordinary performance in discharging their duties. Participating in the 58{+t}{+h}Railway Week Celebrations here on Tuesday, the DRM gave individual awards to 772 South Central Railway (SCR) employees, 86 group awards and the awards to 18 officers. He presented 14 efficiency shields to best officers, on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Pradeep Kumar appealed to the employees to work with dedication. Additional DRM S. Subba Rao and others were present.
