बनिहाल - प्रत्येक मोसमात काश्मीर खोर्याचा संपर्क जम्मू आणि देशाच्या अन्य भागाशी कायम राहणार आहे. बनिहालपासून काजीगुंडदरम्यान 11 कि.मी. लांब अंतराच्या पंजाल रेल्वे बोगदा सुरू झाल्यामुळे हा संपर्क साधला जाणार आहे. पंतप्रधान मनमोहन सिंग यांनी बुधवारी बोगद्याचे उद्घाटन केले. देशातील सर्वांत मोठा व आशियातील तिसरा सर्वात मोठा बोगदा सुरू झाल्यामुळे बनिहाल आणि काजीगुंडदरम्यान 35 कि.मी. अंतर कमी होऊन ते 18 कि.मी. झाले आहे. प्रवासाचा वेळी कमी होणार आहे. बनिहालचे प्रवासी पावणे दोन तासांत श्रीनगरला पोहोचतील. जवाहर बोगद्याच्या रस्त्याने श्रीनगरला पोहोचण्यासाठी सध्या पाच तास लागतात. बर्फवृष्टी मोठ्या प्रमाणात झाल्यास हा बोगदा बंद होत होता. यामुळे वाहतूक ठप्प होत होती. बनिहाल रेल्वे बोगद्यामुळे ही अडचण दूर झाली आहे. या निमित्त आयोजित कार्यक्रमात पंतप्रधान सिंग म्हणाले, रेल्वे बोगदा सुरू झाल्यामुळे काश्मीरच्या पर्यटनाला चालना मिळेल. तरुणांना रोजगार मिळेल. संपुआ अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी म्हणाल्या, रेल्वेमार्ग सुरू झाल्यामुळे जम्मू-काश्मीरमध्ये नवे पर्वाची सुरुवात झाली आहे. न्यू ऑस्ट्रियन बोगदा पद्धतीने बनवलेल्या पीर पंजाल बोगद्यात रेल्वे रुळाच्या बाजूला तीन मीटर रुंद सिमेंटचा रस्ता तयार केला आहे. अग्निशमन यंत्रणा, सीसीटीव्ही कॅमेरे आणि प्रत्येक किलोमीटरवर केबिन आहे. |

Announcing a number of train services, Southern Railway has planned to introduce new trains from Chennai to Bikaner, Santragachi, Palani and Thanjavur which are likely to be launched later this year.The railways however had not yet confirmed the date of launch. The railways have also decided to launch new air-conditioned express trains, connecting Chennai Central with Bikaner and Santragachi and have also announced a new timetable schedule which came into effect from July 1.While announcing two new express trains connecting the State capital with two important towns in South Tamil Nadu, the Southern Railways said that Train No.16003/16004 Chennai Central – Nagarsol (for Sai Nagar Shirdi) Express weekly train will make a departure from Chennai Central and will stop at Arakkonam, Tiruttani, Puttur, Renigunta, Razampeta, Cuddapah, Yerraguntla, Tadipatri, Gooty, Dhone, Kurnool Town, Gadwal, Mahbubnagar, Kacheguda, Malkajgiri, Kamareddi, Basar, Mudkhed, Hazoor Saheb Nanded, Purna, Parbhani, Jalna and Aurangabad. |

NEW DELHI: CBI on Tuesday filed a chargesheet in the alleged Rs 10 crore cash-for-post railway bribery scandal before special court here naming former railway minister P K Bansal's nephew Vijay Singla and suspended board member Mahesh Kumar among 10 accused.The agency filed its chargesheet before the special CBI Judge Swarna Kanta Sharma naming 10 accused which include Kumar, Singla, middlemen Sandeep Goyal, Samir Sandhir, Sushil Daga, Ajay Garg, Rahul Yadav, businessman Manjunath and his two aides-PV Murali and Venugopal.The two courier boys who delivered the bribe amount have not been named in the chargesheet. However, names of P V Murali and Venugopal have been added.Bansal, who lost his job after the scam surfaced, was questioned at length by CBI during the course of the investigation but was not named in the chargesheet as the agency could not find any evidence of his direct involvement as of now.The sources said if they get evidence against him, they may file a supplementary chargesheet.Barring Murali and Venugopal, CBI has arrested all the remaining eight accused named in the charge sheet. Filing of the charge sheet by CBI today has dimmed the hope of arrested accused to be released soon on bail.The sources said in cases of corruption, agency had to file its chargesheet within 60 days of arrest else the accused are released on bail. The limit was expiring today as the agency registered the case on May 3 and the next day in a surprise search operation had arrested Kumar, Singla and other middlemen. |

Delhi Metro ridership touched a new high of over 23.50 lakh on Monday, an official statement said."The Metro trains carried 2,362,279 passengers on Monday, surpassing the 2,332,298 figure of June 18," the statement said on Tuesday.According to Delhi Metro, the daily footfall has been over 23 lakh in June.The usually overcrowded Blue Line (Dwarka-Noida City Centre/Vaishali) recorded the maximum ridership of 925,707 followed by Yellow Line (Jahangirpuri-Huda City Centre) at 860,985.The Red Line (Rithala-Dilshad Garden) carried over three lakh passengers.The Metro's Violet Line (Central Secretariat to Badarpur) carried 169,487 people and Green Line (Inderlok to Mundka) had a ridership of 84,243."The ridership figure for Monday excludes the Airport Metro Express Line (AMEL) ridership which saw a footfall of 10,300 on Monday, the first day of its operations under Delhi Metro supervision," the statement added.Delhi Metro, the city's lifeline, ferries nearly two million passengers on week days and makes over 2,800 trips daily. |

LUCKNOW: The Special Task Force on Monday arrested six more persons who were part of the statewide racket of leaking question paper of a Railway Recruitment Board competitive exam. On Sunday, seven persons were arrested from Muzaffarnagar and Delhi for leaking question paper of the exam held for the post of Railway Protection Force (RPF) constables. The kingpin of the gang Arvind Rana, who runs coaching centres in western UP, is on the run.The names of the persons arrested are Rahul, Sumit, Sonu, Anuj, Anil and Amit. Members of the group used to get hold of question papers before they were delivered to the exam centers. Devendra K Chaudhary, senior superintendent of STF said, "The group members used their connections to get hold of papers of various codes while in transit.The answers were then texted to solvers who were positioned in different centres to help candidates who seal the deal with the gang beforehand."The first breakthrough was achieved by sleuth on May 23 in Delhi when a solver was arrested. The person was sharing the answers through mobile phone and used a locket of the religious kind to hide a sophisticated telecommunication device. |

The construction work for the car depot for the 33.5km Colaba-Bandra-Seepz metro corridor, which will be built on 30 hectares in Aarey Colony, will be carried out in an eco-friendly way, the authority has assured.While the corridor will be fully underground, the depot will come up in Aarey Colony, which has a substantial green cover.UPS Madan, MMRDA commissioner, said, “We will come up with a plan for the construction of the metro depot to ensure that it does not have a negative impact on the environment. We will replant trees, which will have to be removed to make way for the depot.”The 12sqm Aarey colony, which houses many species of animals including leopards, acts as buffer zone for the Sanjay Gandhi National Park.The MMRDA has claimed that the construction work will not have impact the biodiversity.The state revenue department had, in March, asked the collector of Mumbai Suburban district to survey the plot as part of the process of handing it over to the MMRDA.“Our consultants had appointed an expert team to carry out the environmenta study of the plot. According to the report, the construction of the depot will not impact the biodiversity in surrounding areas. We will take all necessary measures to reduce the negative impact, if any, on the environment,” said an MMRDA official, on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media. |
