27% Incremental Growth of Freight Traffic o­n Northern Railway during first Quarter of current financial year.

          General Manager, Northern Railway, Shri Vijay Kumar Gupta, reviewed the Quarterly Performance (April-June 2013) of Northern Railway o­n 15.07.2013.In the meeting held in Northern Railway Head Quarter, Baroda House, quarterly performance of Northern Railway was reviewed with Principal Heads of Departments and all Divisional Railway Managers.Northern Railway has achieved many mile stones during the first Quarter of the current financial year.Northern Railway achieved 13.54 Million Tons of originating freight loading during April-June 2013 compared with 10.66 Million Tons achieved during the corresponding Quarter of last year. Northern Railway has, thus, registered a significant improvement by achieving incremental growth of 27% (2.88 Million Tons) over last year.This incremental growth of originating freight traffic is the highest achieved by any other Zonal Railways o­n Indian Railway during the first Quarter.  Northern Railway has undertaken 06.85 Million Tons of Food grains loading, 1.81 Million Tons of Fertilizers loading, 1.77 Million Tons of POL loading, 0.59 Million Tons of Cement Loading and 2.07 Million Tons of Containerized Cargo.

            It has been able to clear the entire programme of Food grains movement given by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) for loading of Food grains from Northern Railway to various destinations in the country.

            The record increase in freight loading has also resulted in record freight earnings of  1996 crore during this Quarter compared with 1349 crore during the corresponding Quarter of last year thereby registering an increase of 48.03% in freight earnings.  There has also been significant overall growth of earnings in all segments i.e. Freight, Passenger, other Coaching and Sundry.  Northern Railway has registered 29.91% growth in overall earnings o­n originating basis by achieving 3897 crore of total revenue during April-June this year compared with3000 crore achieved during the corresponding period of last year.

            Despite record freight loading involving heavy freight operations, Northern Railway’s Passenger operations has also set new mile stones during the first Quarter by achieving 88% punctuality of Mail / Express trains compared with 77% achieved during the corresponding Quarter of last year.  Incidentally, Northern Railway undertakes running of 500 Mail / Express trains o­n a daily basis which is the highest o­n Indian Railways and involves intensive participations of various departments and infrastructures.

            Many mega projects have been completed during the first Quarter including new line between Chandigarh – Ludhianaand the important extension of Railway line between Qazigund – Banihal in J&K State.  Qazigund-Banihal extension involving 11.2 Kms long Railway Tunnel, was dedicated to the nation by the Hon’ble Prime Minister o­n 26th June, 2013.  The extension of train services from Qazigund – Banihal connecting Jammu with Kashmir Valley have become most popular in Valley among the local public and also provides quicker and economical mode of transport from Banihal to Valley which is much longer and expensive by Roadways.

            General Manager reviewed the performance in all spheres of Northern Railway working with Principal Heads of Departments and all Divisional Railway Managers of Northern Railway through Video Conferencing.  New targets were outlined and strategies worked out to sustain the outstanding performance and also to complete many targeted works during the remaining months of the current financial year including planning and introducing all the 42 new trains announced in the Budget 2013-14.  Planning for major infrastructure related works of terminals, line capacity augmentation, Railway Electrifications and new lines were reviewed.

            Various arrangements made by the Divisions during the summer rush between April-June this year including running of special trains, providing additional passenger amenities and checks and drives in Reservation, Booking offices & catering in trains were widely appreciated by the passengers.

Northern Railway also planned evacuation of stranded passengers from Uttrakhand by running of 10 special trains from Haridwar to various destinations in the country and by making all necessary arrangements at Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dehradun and New Delhi Railway Stations.These efforts have also been widely appreciated by the public and media.

Chandigarh  : Yoga guru Ramdev today accused Union Minister Kapil Sibal of framing former railway minister and MP Pawan Kumar Bansal in the infamous railgate.Ramdev said it was none other than Kapil Sibal who allegedly framed Bansal.Ramdev said as Sibal wanted to contest from Chandigarh, he helped the CBI arrest Bansal’s nephew Vijay Singla. He stated that Sibal knew that he would not be able to win from Chandni Chowk in Delhi.

MLA Rowthu Suryaprakasa Rao has said that the announcement of Union Tourism Minister K. Chiranjeevi that the Havelock Bridge would be developed as a tourist spot has given new hopes and all the stakeholders of the bridge would work hard to redesign and dedicate the bridge to the nation by coming Godavari Pushkarams in 2015.Addressing media conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Suryaprakasa Rao lauded Mr. Chiranjeevi for taking the initiative despite all odds from Railways.He also thanked MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar, Union Human Resource Development Minister M. M. Pallam Raju and others for their role. The MLA specially commended people of Rajahmundry and all the organisations who took up the issue in a big way.The MLA said the late Divisional Engineer K. Srimannarayana had given an excellent design for constructing foot-over Bridge in place of Havelock railway track and the Municipal Corporation had taken up the design to the notice of the State government.Mr. Suryaprakasa Rao said that the MP and he had been pursuing the issue for the last eight years and they had proposed ‘Jambudweepam’ island tourism development centre in one corner of the Godavari.He said that Mr Arun Kumar would present the design, correspondence, estimates and other details before the Union Minister in the second week of August along with the State Tourism Minister and also raise the issue in the coming Parliament session.

The trains have been extended according to the announcement made in the Railway Budget

The Railways have extended three trains with effect from July 18 to reach Mysore according to the announcements made in the Railway Budget-2013-14.

Train No.16536 Solapur-Yeshwantpur-Solapur Express (Via Bangalore City) will depart Solapur at 2.40 p.m. and arrive at Mysore 11.15 a.m., the next day. In the return direction, the Mysore-Solapur Daily Express will depart from Mysore at 3.30 p.m. and arrive at Solapur at 1.30 p.m., the next day.

Train No.16591 Hubli-Mysore (Via Bangalore City) Hampi Daily Express will leave Hubli at 6 p.m. and arrive at Mysore at 9.40 a.m., the next day. Train No.16592 Mysore-Hubli (Via Bangalore City) Hampi Daily Express will depart from Mysore at 6.15 p.m. and arrive at Hubli at 11 a.m., the next day.

Train No.17308 Bagalkot-Mysore Basava Daily Express will depart from Bagalkot at 2.10 p.m. and arrive at Mysore at 1.50 p.m. the next day. In the return direction, Train No.17307 Mysore-Bagalkot Basava Daily Express (Via Bangalore City & Yeshwantpur) will depart from Mysore at 1.30 p.m. and arrive at Bagalkot 12.10 p.m., the next day.

The South Eastern Railway (SER) has come up with a host of measures to ease the rush of devotees who flock various religious destinations during the holy month of Shravan.

For those bound for Baidyanath Temple, the railway authorities have decided to introduce a special train from Tatanagar to Jasidih, the nearest station to Deoghar. The train will chug off on its first journey on July 22. The service will continue till August 22, the last day of Shravani Mela.

Officials at the SER headquarters at Garden Reach, Calcutta, said that the special train would run five days a week — on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

According to schedule, it will leave Tatanagar at 11.45am and reach Jasidih at 7.20pm. The return trip the next day will start at 11.10am from Jasidih and the train will arrive at Tatanagar at 5.30pm.

Railway authorities are also planning to add one coach each to Tatanagar-Chapra Express and South Bihar Express, which witness huge rush of devotees throughout the month of Shravan.

“Apart from introducing the special train, we will also add extra coaches to comfortably accommodate devotees bound for various destinations in Bihar,” said Tatanagar station manager Awtar Singh.

Railway sources said that Garden Reach would also come out with a circular announcing the halt of passenger trains at Mahadevshal in West Singhbhum, where a grand fair is organised at the local Shiva temple.

Every year, the Tata-Bilaspur Passenger, South Bihar Express, Tata-Allepey Express and few other trains halt at Mahadevshal during the month of Shravan .

Members of Chotanagpur Passengers’ Association, however, found the new measures inadequate.

“The number of devotees are swelling every year. The railways should introduce at least two special trains to Jasidih,” said a member.

PATNA: Though the railways has initiated a slew of measures to provide amenities to passengers at major stations across the country, a long pending demand of passengers visiting the state capital here from other far off places for credit card facility at Patna Junction has not been fulfilled by railways so far.

Giving vent to their feelings, the aggrieved passengers mostly businessmen and tourists said Patna has gone a sea change in the past five to six years. Several people visiting here do not carry cash with themselves. They have, in that case, have option to either use credit cards or ATM kiosks installed on railway premises at Patna Junction, they said.

According to them, many times ATM kiosks at railways campus either do not function or shows "insufficient balance in the accounts" for some technical reasons. In that case, people use their credit cards to save themselves from unnecessary harassment, they said and added procuring or booking railway tickets often cause great problems to them due to running short of cash with them.

Richa, Akanksha and Sikha who are frequenting between Patna-Delhi and Patna-Bangalore routes say they use their credit cards while procuring railway journey tickets. Credit card facilities are available at all metropolitan stations as well as major stations in the south. Unfortunately, Patna Junction which has become a hub of passenger trains, lacks this facility at a time when railways is committed to provide high-tech amenities to passengers, they said.

Talking to TOI, several business executives said railways must provide this facility to cater to the needs of a number of people who are availing credit card facility for long.

According to an IRCTC official, railways has the most ambitious plan in pipeline to provide credit and debit card facilities through ATM counters too. This facility will give much relief to passengers while procuring journey tickets through ATM counters, he said.

North Eastern Railway will attach extra coaches in its long-distance trains to cope with the rush of passengers.

According to the railway spokesperson, additional sleeper class coaches will be attached in 12589 Gorakhpur-Secunderabad Express on July 17.

12590 Secunderabad-Gorakhpur Express will also run with an additional sleeper coach on July 19.

Similarly, one additional coach each will be attached in 12541 Gorakhpur-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express on July 17 and 12542 Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Gorakhpur Express on July 19, the spokesperson said.

एमआरटीएसचे आरक्षण बदलून तब्बल ३० एकर जागा एका खासगी बिल्डरच्या घशात घालण्याचा डाव पालिका प्रशासनाने रचल्याचा गौप्यस्फोट ' ठाण्यातील छुपे रुस्तम ' या मटा सीरिजने केला होता. या वृत्ताची दखल घेत शिवसेना कार्यप्रमुख उद्धव ठाकरे , जिल्हाप्रमुख आ. एकनाथ शिंदे , आ. राजन विचारे यांनी या आरक्षण बदलाला विरोध दर्शवला होता. मंगळवारी शिवसेनेच्या नगरसेवकांनीसुद्धा तीच भूमिका सर्वसाधारण सभेत मांडली. राष्ट्रवादीच्या नगरसेवकांची भूमिका संदिग्घ होती. परंतु , खुद्द आयुक्तच आरक्षण बदलाच्या विरोधात उभे ठाकले.

एमआरटीएसचा अहवाल तयार करणाऱ्या कन्सल्टिंग इंजिनीअरिंग सर्व्हीसेस (सीईएस) या सल्लागार संस्थेंच्या प्रतिनिधींशी चर्चा केल्यानंतर आपण आरक्षण कायम ठेवण्याच्या निर्णयाप्रत पोहचल्याचे आयुक्तांनी सभागृहात सांगितले. शहराला जलद वाहतूक सेवेची नितांत गरज असून , पुढल्या पाच-सहा महिन्यांत त्याबाबतचा सखोल अभ्यास करून एमआरटीएसच्या रूटवर कोणती सेवा सुरू करायची याबाबतचा निर्णयही आपण घेऊ , असेही आयुक्तांनी यावेळी सांगितले.
