A circular garden with an area of 4,298 square metre in front of New Coochbehar station has made it to the Limca Book of Records as the biggest garden of the Indian Railways. Northeast Frontier (N F) Railway spokesman S Hajong said in a release that the Limca Book of Records has issued a certificate recognising this garden as the largest one in the Indian Railways network. During the year 1964-65, with the opening of Raninagar Jalpaiguri-New Bongaigaon Broad Gauge (BG) section, the New Coochbehar station came under this new alignment and gradually gained importance from the commercial point of view. It is a class A station of Alipurduar division of N F Railway, he said, adding that to give an aesthetic look to the station facade the circular garden has varieties of flowers and plants with a high mast tower light post in its middle. |

Five railway officers of North central Railway have been selected for Minister of Railway award. The selected officers would be given awards at the railway week Central Function which would be organised at New Delhi on April 16.The five railway officers are senior divisional operating manager Sanjay Tripathi, senior divisional engineer Vivek Kumar, chief law assistant Dinesh Kumar, deputy chief mechanical engineer Deepak Nigam and organizing commissioner ( Scouts) Raj Bali Sharma.It is pertinent to mention that exceptional railway officers get the the Railway Week Minister of railway award at New Delhi and this year Allahabad is lucky. |

In view of the Mahakumbh Mela scheduled to be organized from January 2013 which would witness grand conglomeration of people assembled from every nook and corner of the world, electrical department of North Central Railway has made a detailed plan for increasing the lighting system at Allahabad railway junction. In addition to this, special lighting would be done at Naini, Chheoki and Mirzapur stations. Further, it has also planned to take other steps pertaining to the electrical department.As the Mahakumbh is organised after a gap of twelve years, the city of Allahabad occupies a special place during the mela period as devotees from different parts of the country and the world converge to take dip in the Sangam, confluence of river Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati. The railway department is planning to impart Allahabad junction a cleaner look and delve it into sparkling lights during the night hours.The illumination level at different places of the Allahabad railway junction would be increased. In this connection, special emphasis would be laid on increasing the illumination level at FOB (Foot Over Bridges) and outside cover sheds.Special lighting would also be done at the booking counters and PRS counters which would be opened at the Sangam area during the Mahakumbh.Further, arrangements would be made for increasing the illumination at the Civil Lines side and city side of Allahabad railway junction.To cater to large number of passengers, additional mobile charging boards would be provided at very platform of the Allahabad railway junction. Mobile charging boards would be provided at two locations on every platform. This would be constructed departmentally and would be of standard design.In addition to this, inverter supply for emergency lighting would be made on all platforms FOB( Foot Over Bridges) and FOB landings/staircase.Further, mobile cooling points would be provided on platfrom1,2,3 and 9/10 of the Allahabad railway junction. Good quality search lights would be provided for breakdown gangs so that problems arising out at the station would be attended promptly.In addition to this, electrical department of North Central Railway would also increase the illumination level at Naini junction. The illumination level would be specially increased at FOB and outside cover sheds. Additional mobile charging points would be provided at every platform of Naini junction. Further, illumination level at Chheoki station would also be increased.The electrical department has also planned to provide lighting at the Saraswati Ghat and also at the Jamuna bridge for the facilities of the devotees thronging the place.It has also planned for provision of accommodations of special duty officials during the Kumbh mela period at the Allahabad,Naini and mela area.Talking to TOI, chief public relations officer of North central Railway Sandeep Mathur informed that lots of preparations are underway for the mahakumbh for the thousands of pilgrims which would converge at Sangam during Mahakumbh. |
