The Indian Railways will revive its ambitious programme of modernising railway stations through public private participation (PPP) route. Every new incumbent at the Rail Bhavan since the past five terms has not been able to achieve the feat and none have been successful in bringing the proposed project even to the drawing board stage.

In the Rail Budget for 2012, the then Railways Minister, Dinesh Trivedi mooted the same plan but it met with little success. The present incumbent Pawan Kumar Bansal, in his recently held press conference, reiterated that a Railway Stations Development Corporation will be launched to renovate and redevelop five railway stations as pilot project.

The Western Railways is going to install biometric system for booking tickets in important stations as this would check the growing instances of touts' interference.
As per Sharatchandra Yaan, Chief Public relations Officer of Western Railways, "the system is being implemented on a pilot basis in Mumbai."
In the course of the pilot study, the technical snags in the biometric system will be corrected and then the system will be implemented in other important stations.
"We don't want touts take advantage of the new system and so have introduced it on a pilot basis. We want to make the biometric system foolproof," said Yaan.
Once the biometric system is installed, touts can be checked if they are from booking multiple train tickets or multiple tickets in one train. The biometric system will have a thumb impression while booking a ticket and once the identity of a person is registered in the system, he cannot book a ticket from the PRS (passenger reservation system) for more than twice a day.

ராமநாதபுரம்: ராமேஸ்வரம் - சென்னை ரயில் இன்ஜின் பழுதால், இரண்டு மணி நேரம் தாமதமாக புறப்பட்டு சென்றது. ராமேஸ்வரத்திலிருந்து மாலை, 5:20 மணிக்கு சென்னை எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் ரயில் புறப்பட்டது. ராமநாதபுரத்தில் மாலை, 6:15 மணிக்கு புறப்பட வேண்டிய ரயில், இன்ஜின் பழுதால் நின்றது. பழுதை டிரைவர்கள் சரிசெய்தபின், இரண்டு மணிநேரம் தாமதமாக புறப்பட்டது.

The South Central Railway Mazdoor Union, Vijayawada division, will hold a gate meeting in front of SSE/P Way’s office (North) and also in front of DRM office compound to discuss the long-pending issues. The meeting at SSE/P Way’s office will be conducted at 7 a.m., while the meeting in front of DRM office will be at 5.30 p.m. Union general secretary Ch. Sankara Rao will address the gate meeting.

CANTEEN AUCTION

Vijayawada Revenue Divisional Officer S. Venkat Rao said that the canteen located at Kedareswarapeta Rythu Bazaar would be auctioned at Sub Collector’s Office on December 5 at 11.30 a.m. The candidates, who are interested in running the canteen, would have to participate in the auction by paying Rs. 10,000 through demand draft drawn in favour of Kedareswarapeta rythu bazaar, he said, adding, application forms were available with the Rythu bazaar Estate Officer.

Western Railway men and Southern Railway women won the titles in the 58th men’s and 35th women’s all-India Railway volleyball championship at Bhubaneswar on Sunday.In the final, WR men downed ICF 3-2, while SR women won 3-2 against Central Railway.

The results:

Men: Finals: WR bt ICF 3-2 (25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 16-25, 15-12). Semifinals: ICF bt DLW 3-1 (29-27, 25-14, 18-25, 22-25, 15-12); WR bt SR 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-19).
