Ambala: Union minister and MP from Ambala Kumari Selja has flagged off the Ambala-Delhi Express via Saharanpur and Meerut at the Ambala Cantt railway station today. Selja also travelled in this train up to the Jagadhari workshop railway station. Divisional Railway Manager A K Khatpal, senior DCM Gulshan Kumar and Deputy Commissioner KM Pandurang were also present.Selja said the people of Ambala, Barara, Jagadhari and Yamunanagar had been demanding the train. Earlier, the train was to be launched on August 9 but due to some changes in timing schedule, it was delayed.She said the Centre and state government had started the acquisition of land for Naraingarh-Chandigarh rail track which would be completed soon. She had requested the Railway Minister to include the NCR region in Ambala railway division while it was existed in the Delhi railway division.According to a railway official, the new train will depart from Ambala Cantt at 5:40 am and reach Delhi at 11:40 am. In return journey, it will depart from Delhi at 13.10 pm and will reach Ambala Cantt at 19:10 pm. It will stop at Barara, Jagadhari workshop, Yamunanagar, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Modi Nagar, Ghaziabaad and Shahdara. |

HUBLI: Hubli-Dharwad region is emerging as small and medium industries hub with more than a lakh small and medium industries, said B P Shashidhar, president of Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (Kassia), Bangalore.He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the Vender Development and Symposium which was organized as part of the Incomex-2013, mega industrial exhibition, in Hubli on Saturday.Incomex-2013 has been organized by the Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), and district administration in association with other organizations, at Hubli-Dharwad Multipurpose Exhibition Centre in the APMC yard.Shashidhar felt that small and medium industries in the region have developed a lot compared to the last few years in the region, and a lot of potential is seen. Entrepreneurs in the region are exporting goods to all over the country and even outside.Public sector unit (PSU) should look into this region and should tie up with local entrepreneurs to supply products. And PSU should purchase about 30 per cent goods from small and medium entrepreneurs, he added.Speaking on the occasion, Vikram Sirur, managing director, Miven Mayfran Conveyors Private Limited, said manufacturing sector in the north Karnataka region needs to improve, and that big manufactures are not getting adequate goods from the region. |

Traffic on Mysore-Nanjangud railway line came to a standstill for more than one hour due to a protest against an accident which claimed the legs of a woman who fell under a train.Rathnamma (59), a native of Thandavapura, suffered grievous injuries and was shifted to K R Hospital.She had come to her daughter’s house in Badanaval village and was at the railway station to board a train to Chamarajnagar when she lost balance, slipped and fell under the Chamarajnagar-Mysore passenger train. She lost both her legs though passengers tried to pull the emergency chain to stop the moving train.Enraged, villagers and passengers accused the driver and staff of callousness and sat on the track in protest, blocking traffic for more than 90 minutes. They also demanded compensation for her from the Railways.The Railway police refused to accept their complaint. The train was finally allowed to leave at 3.10 pm. |

The union minister for social justice and empowerment Kumari Selja flagged off a new express train between Ambala Cantt and New Delhi on Saturday.Accompanied by senior railway officers, the minister also travelled in the train up to Jagadhri Workshop station.Officials said that the train number 14521 would start at 5:40am from the Cantt station and would reach New Delhi at 11:10am via Jagadhri, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, while the return train would start from New Delhi at 1pm and would reach the Cantt station at 7.10 pm.They said the train would have 10 ordinary coaches and an AC chair coach. Sources informed that earlier the train was scheduled to start on August 9, but got delayed by a month, as the commuters demanded the train to start from New Delhi at 5pm. They said to avoid further delay the decision to start the train was taken on the understanding that the timings would be changed later if feasible.Speaking on the occasion, Selja said that it was the fulfilment of a long-standing demand of the residents of Ambala, Brara, Jagadhri and Yamunanagar.Thanking the railway minister Mallikarjun Khadge, she said that Ambala City, Barara and Jagadhri stations would be modernised adding that the process to acquire land for rail tracks at Naraingarh would start soon.Selja said that she would also take up the matter of setting up a bottling plant in Ambala with the railway minister and urge him to make international level facilities available at the Cantt station. |
