South East Central Railway (SECR) changes platform numbers at Gondia railway station. From Thursday, platform number 3 will become platform number 7. Earlier, this platform was rechristined as platform number 4A.

PUNE: The much-awaited electrification work of the 76-km Pune-Daund railway route will take another year for completion. Authorities said about 35% of the work has been completed so far, and that the remaining work will be completed by September 2014. Work commenced about 10 months ago in December 2012.Authorities said that work was underway as per schedule and that there have been no delays or hurdles so far. The project includes electrification of a section of 104 km, of which the Pune-Daund section is 76 kilometers long and Daund-Bhigvan section is 28 km long. The total cost of the project is Rs 167 crore.The electrification of Pune-Daund section is vital to improve rail services in Pune region. There was a long pending demand of rail commuters for electrification of this section mainly to establish a direct link of electrical multiple unit (EMU) rakes (local trains) between Lonavla, Pune and Daund.While the rail track between Lonavla and Pune is electrified, the Pune-Daund section is not, and so trains plying on this stretch run on diesel engines. Hundreds of commuters in suburban areas such as Pimpri Chinchwad, Khadki, Talegaon who wish to travel to Daund get down at Pune station to catch another train to travel to Daund.A railway administration official said, "Electrification of Daund section is on priority. We are aiming to complete the work within stipulated time period. The work is underway in phases. We have begun with laying of foundations for poles. There is a plan to fix about 3,000 poles up to Daund to lay overhead electric cables and we have so far laid foundations for 1,800 poles. About 300 poles have been erected in Loni-Daund section. Work on laying cables will start after the poles have been erected."

Officials said that the project is being implemented by the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). A separate team of officials and engineers has been appointed to oversee the project.

Around 15,000 to 20,000 commuters travel on Pune-Daund section every day. The railway administration operates about 20 passenger trains on this route daily. Besides, over 50 long distance trains travelling to southern and northern destinations use the Pune-Daund route.

Railway authorities said the electrification would help reduce congestion in Pune station and increase speed of trains up to Daund, besides establishing a direct link for local trains up to Daund.

Harsha Shah of Railway Pravasi Group said, "Areas and towns that fall along the Daund route such as Hadapsar, Loni Uruli, Yevat are witnessing residential and commercial development. In coming years, citizens here will need public transport to travel to Pune and Mumbai. Hence, electrification of the Pune-Daund track is necessary. There is also a need to upgrade passenger amenities at stations located on Pune-Daund track. A direct train link between Daund and Lonavla would reduce pressure from road traffic," said Shah.

जागरण संवाददाता, वाराणसी : कैंट रेलवे स्टेशन व उसका यार्ड, सेफ्टी में मामले में 70 फीसद सही पाया गया जबकि 30 प्रतिशत सुधार की जरूरत है। सभी प्वाइंटों का आडिट करने के बाद शुक्रवार को नई दिल्ली से आए उत्तर रेलवे के मुख्य संरक्षा अधिकारी सीबीके सिंह ने यह जानकारी दी।

स्टेशन प्रबंधक कक्ष में मीडिया से अनौपचारिक बातचीत में श्री सिंह ने कहा कि यार्ड में शंटिंग के दौरान घटनाओं को रोकने के लिए जो भी कमी पाई गई है, वह छह माह में दूर कर ली जाएगी। आडिट रिपोर्ट के आधार पर सुधार के लिए प्लान बनाए जाएंगे। अब रही बात मेन लाइन की आडिट की तो कैंट स्टेशन के एरिया में कहीं कोई कमी नहीं मिली।

एक सवाल के जवाब में मुख्य संरक्षा अधिकारी ने बताया कि यार्ड में 202 प्वाइंट (एक पटरी दूसरे से जुड़ना) हैं। इनकी जांच की गई। इनमें लगभग 150 प्वाइंट अच्छी स्थिति में मिले। शेष में सुधार की आवश्यकता महसूस की गई। इन्हें भी ठीक कर दिया जाए तो कैंट स्टेशन का यार्ड नो एक्सीडेंटल जोन बन सकता है।

निरीक्षण व आडिट के दौरान लखनऊ मंडल के एडीआरएम आरके लाल, मुख्य क्षेत्रीय प्रबंधक पंकज सक्सेना, स्टेशन प्रबंधक एके पांडेय, आरपीएफ के प्रभारी निरीक्षक कमलेश्वर सिंह, मुख्य खानपान निरीक्षक एसके पांडेय समेत विद्युत, मैकेनिकल, संकेत एवं दूरसंचार विभाग के अधिकारी मौजूद रहे।

INDIA: Konkan Railway has begun equipping its stations with 'bio-toilets' which used anaerobic biodigester technology developed by the Defence Research & Development Organisation for use in remote areas.

The railway said the maintenance-free toilets can be installed in two days rather than the two months needed for standard toilets which require a sewer or septic tank, and are 70% cheaper at Rs30 000.

The bacterial breakdown of waste produces gas which can be utilised as fuel and clean odourless water which can be extracted for irrigation

Traffic on Mysore-Nanjangud railway line came to a standstill for more than one hour due to a protest against an accident which claimed the legs of a woman who fell under a train.Rathnamma (59), a native of Thandavapura, suffered grievous injuries and was shifted to K R Hospital.She had come to her daughter’s house in Badanaval  village and was at the railway station to board a train to Chamarajnagar when she lost balance, slipped and fell under the Chamarajnagar-Mysore passenger train. She lost both her legs though passengers tried to pull the emergency chain to stop the moving train.Enraged, villagers and passengers accused the driver and staff of callousness and sat on the track in protest, blocking traffic for more than 90 minutes. They also demanded compensation for her from the Railways.The Railway police refused to accept their complaint. The train was finally allowed to leave at 3.10 pm.

Local MP Ponnam Prabhakar said that he was striving hard for the sanctioning of the railway line between Karimnagar and Secunderabad via Siddipet or Karimnagar to Secunderabad via Hasanparthi routes.

Speaking after inaugurating a modernized railway reservation counter, which was built at a cost of Rs. 10 lakh, near the RTC Bus Complex here Saturday, he said Karimnagar is the only district headquarters in the State, which has no direct rail connectivity with Hyderabad. A railway reservation counter will be set up in Husnabad town soon, he informed.
