The Udhagamandalam-Mettupalayam train was stopped for about 25 minutes after crossing Ketti owing to a branch falling on the track near Aruvankadu. Nilgiri Mountain Railway sources told The Hindu that the track was not damaged and the train proceeded after the branch was removed.

ऋषिकेश-कर्णप्रयाग रेलवे प्रोजेक्ट के एलाइनमेंट को अंतिम रूप दे दिया गया है। लगभग 127 किमी लंबी इस परियोजना में 80 प्रतिशत रेलवे लाइन सुरंगों से होकर गुजरेगी। इस मार्ग पर कुल 11 स्टेशन चिन्हित किए गए हैं।
शुक्रवार को सचिवालय में मुख्यमंत्री विजय बहुगुणा की अध्यक्षता में आयोजित बैठक में रेल विकास निगम लि. के प्रबंध निदेशक सतीश अग्निहोत्री ने परियोजना की विस्तृत जानकारी दी। उन्होंने बताया कि एलाइनमेंट का सर्वे पूरा कर लिया गया है। लगभग 127 किमी लंबाई की इस परियोजना में 80 प्रतिशत रेलवे लाइन सुरंग से गुजरेगी। इस पर कुल 11 स्टेशन चिन्हित किए गए हैं। ये हैं वीरभद्र (नया ऋषिकेश), शिवपुरी, व्यासी, देवप्रयाग, मलेथा, श्रीनगर, धारी, रुद्रप्रयाग, घोलतीर, गोचर और कर्णप्रयाग।
मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि राष्ट्रीय महत्व की इस परियोजना से उत्तराखंड की आर्थिकी को काफी लाभ होगा और पर्यटन को भी बढ़ावा मिलेगा। उन्होंने कहा कि रेलवे लाइन निर्माण के लिए भू अधिग्रहण अधिकारी नियुक्त कर दिया गया है। उन्होंने रेल विकास निगम लि. को वन विभाग के अधिकारियों के साथ बैठक कर संभावित पर्यावरण संबंधी आपत्तियों का निराकरण सुनिश्चित करने को कहा। मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि वह रेलमंत्री के साथ प्रधानमंत्री से इस संबंध में मुलाकात करेंगे क्योंकि रेलवे लाइन का लगभग सौ किमी हिस्सा वनक्षेत्र में आ रहा है। श्री अग्निहोत्री ने कहा कि एलाइनमेंट बनाते समय हाइ रेजोल्यूशन सेटेलाइट इमेजरी जैसी आधुनिक तकनीक का उपयोग किया गया है। इसमें आइआइटी रुड़की सहित विश्वस्तरीय विशेषज्ञों की मदद ली गई है।
बैठक में कैबिनेट मंत्री डा. हरक सिंह रावत, अमृता रावत, अपर मुख्य सचिव राकेश शर्मा, प्रमुख सचिव एसएस संधु, एस रामास्वामी, सचिव डा. उमाकांत पंवार, भास्करानंद सहित अन्य वरिष्ठ अधिकारी मौजूद थे। इससे पूर्व रेल विकास निगम लि. के प्रबंध निदेशक सतीश अग्निहोत्री ने मुख्यमंत्री विजय बहुगुणा से भेंट कर उत्तराखंड में आई दैवीय आपदा के पीड़ितों की मदद के लिए एक करोड़ की धनराशि का चेक मुख्यमंत्री राहत कोष के लिए सौंपा।

The South Western Railway has announced coach augmentation on train nos. 06553/06554 Yeshwantpur-Kochuveli-Yeshwantpur express special with one three tier AC coach and three second class sleeper coaches, to clear the extra rush for Onam. The revised composition of the train is two three tier AC coaches, nine second class sleeper coaches, nine general second class coaches and two second class sitting-cum-luggage vans. — Staff Reporter

The Raj Bhasha Diwas (Hindi Day) celebrations at the Vijayawada Railway Divisional headquarters touched a new high with Divisional Railway Manager Preadeep Kumar announcing its achievement in implementation, which was much beyond the targets given to it.

The division has achieved 100 per cent target in translation work. For making notes/analysis the achievement was 49.1 per cent against 30 per cent target.

Disclosing these details at a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Pradeep Kumar said that the basic correspondence in all three levels of letters was 87.5 per cent to 66.9 per cent against a target of 55 per cent.

The division has achieved 100 per cent target in giving replies in Hindi to letters received in Hindi. Similarly, 100 per cent target was achieved in displaying of name boards, sign boards ion Trilingual and bilingual form, he said. The entries in registers/diaries and service registers was 97.6 per cent and 100 per cent respectively. Taking dictation in Hindi could be achieved up to 62.5 per cent while the target is 30 per cent. Some of the proud possessions of the division are 12 libraries with 18,692 books in Hindi, giving reservation charts in Hindi also, making announcement on all stations in Hindi along with Telugu and English. Cash awards were given to two employees — P. Hriday Raj and J. Janikamma — and an officer and four employees will receive General Manager’s individual cash award.

BANGALORE: Chief minister Siddaramaiah explored additional funding from Japan for infrastructure corridors and high-speed rail projects in Bangalore during meetings at the World Economic Forum in Dalian, China.After the plenary session on Thursday, Siddaramaiah met Japanese science and technology minister Hakubun Shimomura and discussed partnerships in IT, space, food and education sectors."He invited Shimomura to visit Bangalore for a first-hand view of the phenomenal growth of the software industry in India's tech hub. They explored additional funding from Japan for infrastructure corridors and high-speed rail projects,'' said a senior official who is part of the 22-member team led by the CM. Later, the CM called on WEF executive chairman Klaus Schwab and discussed expansion of the forum's activities in the state.Earlier in the day, Siddaramaiah visited Dalian port which can handle 1.7 million tonnes of foodgrains with hi-tech storage facility and rail connectivity.

RAIPUR: In the ticket checking drive conducted in August, South Eastern Central Railways registered 20,000 cases of ticketless passengers, with Rs 71.6 lakh collected as fine. According to railway officials, there has been an increase of 17.65 per cent as compared to last year's collection of Rs 60 lakh against 17,000 cases of ticketless passengers.

There has been a notable increase in the number of ticketless passengers from April to August. Railways have collected about Rs 4.34 crore as fines from April to August, against 1.20 lakh ticketless cases. It's almost an increase of nine per cent compared to last year's amount.

सहारनपुर दिल्ली के बीच के बीच बहुप्रतिक्षित नई एक्सप्रेस ट्रेन के संचालन पर जिले के व्यापारियों व उद्यमियों ने हर्ष जताया है। ट्रेन के प्रथम बार सहारनपुर आगमन पर भव्य स्वागत का किया जायेगा।
इंडियन इंडस्ट्रीज एसोसिएशन की कार्यालय पर आयोजित बैठक में अंबाला दिल्ली के बीच नई एक्सप्रेस ट्रेन के संचालन में अहम भूमिका निभाने पर सांसद जगदीश राणा का आभार जताया गया। वरिष्ठ उपाध्यक्ष हरजीत सिंह ने कहा कि लंबे इंतजार के बाद सहारनपुर दिल्ली के बीच एक्सप्रेस ट्रेन की सौगात मिली है। उन्होंने बताया कि अंबाला में ट्रेन का ट्रायल सुबह 11 बजे डीआरएम अनिल कठपाल द्वारा हरी झंडी दिखाकर किया जायेगा। पहले दिन यह ट्रेन दोपहर 12.40 बजे सहारनपुर पहुंचेगी जहां उसका स्वागत किया जायेगा। महासचिव शलभ राय, अशोक छाबड़ा ने सांसद जगदीश राणा व स्टेशन अधीक्षक अरविंद शर्मा का आभार जताते हुए कहा कि यह ट्रेन बराड़ा, जगाधरी वर्कशाप व जगाधरी, सहारनपुर, मुजफ्फरनगर, मेरठ सिटी, मोदीनगर, गाजियाबाद, शाहदरा होते हुए दिल्ली तक जायेगी। इस अवसर पर अनिल अग्रवाल, दीपक अरोड़ा, अबुबकर सिद्दीकी, संदीप कपूर, तिलकराज, मेहरबान, विनोद अरोड़ा, राजेश गुप्ता, विवेक चावला, नंदकिशोर आदि उपस्थित रहे। उधर, सहारनपुर उद्योग व्यापार प्रतिनिधि मंडल अध्यक्ष विवेक मनोचा ने दिल्ली मार्ग पर नई ट्रेन का संचालन शुरू कराए जाने पर सांसद जगदीश राणा का आभार जताया। साथ ही शनिवार को ट्रेन चालक दल के सदस्यों के स्वागत में स्टेशन पहुंचने का आह्वान किया। मंडल रेलवे उपभोक्ता सुझाव समिति सदस्य अनिल शर्मा व उत्तर रेलवे बोर्ड सलाहकार समिति सदस्य सतपाल कालड़ा ने भी सांसद जगदीश राणा का नई ट्रेन के संचालन पर आभार जताया है।

Bangalore:  The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) is looking to raise Rs.1000 crore through private placement of bonds.  “We were planning to tap financial institutions, but would not like to do it now as the interest rates are high,” the Corporation’s new Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola told.

Kharola, a 1985-batch IAS officer, said BMRLC will wait for interest rates to soften before starting to raise more funds. The corporation, in which the governments of India and Karnataka are equal partners, has been implementing the metro project with equity and debt raised from many financial institutions including the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The 42.3 km Phase I of the project comprising two corridors – the 18.1 km long East-West corridor and the 24.2 km long North-South corridor – is estimated to cost about Rs.12000 crore.

The Corporation is awaiting clearance from the Government of India before starting on the 72 km long Phase II of the project at a cost of Rs 25,000 crore, the MD said. Phase II involves extending the lines laid under the Phase I, and beginning two new routes, one of which will connect Bangalore’s arterial areas with Electronic City – the address that houses many well-known information technology companies including Infosys Ltd.

The entire Phase I of the project will be ready by March 2015, Kharola said. “We hope to complete all the civil works including tunneling by October next year, but will require about six months time after that for the laying of tracks and signaling systems.” The construction work, he added, was going on in many parts of the city simultaneously, which would help the corporation to meet completion schedules.

The metro service will be thrown open in stages. A 7-km stretch of the Bangalore Metro in the East-West corridor is already open for commuters, and another stretch of 10 km in the North-South corridor will be open by the end of November this year, the MD said. Another stretch of 4-km in the North-South section will follow four months after that. By July next year, the 18 km East-West corridor will be fully ready, and might be open to commuters two months after that.

The fall in the value of the rupee against the US dollar has had some impact on the project as there are some contracts that are payable in dollars. Though a few coaches were imported initially, the corporation is now relying on the public sector BEML Ltd for supply of coaches. Each train (rake) will have a minimum of three coaches, which can go up to six depending on the demand. Each coach costs Rs 9.85 crore, and the corporation has placed orders for 50 rakes under Phase I. The Bangalore-headquartered public sector company has already supplied 40 coaches made to Bangalore Metro’s specifications, Kharola said.

Each coach has a capacity to carry 1000 people, and Bangalore’s metro station platforms are designed for six-coach operations.

In a bid to prevent the metro rail from obstructing the tracks due to any technical glitch or breakdown, the L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH) will construct three service tracks (pocket tracks), at different locations on the three metro rail corridors.With the elevated Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) project proceeding at a brisk pace, these service tracks will be constructed between Sanjeevaa Reddy Nagar and Ameerpet (Miyapur to LB Nagar on Corridor-1), Chilkalguda-Bhoiguda (JBS to Falaknuma on Corridor-2) and between Shopper’s Stop and Hyderabad Public School at Begumpet (Nagole to Shilparamam on Corridor-3).These tracks are being built by the L&TMRH as part of safety measures and will be a few metres away from the running tracks. The service tracks are proposed for emergency needs. The L&TMRH and HMR officials told City Express that if a metro train develops a sudden technical glitch, it would lead to disruption of services of the other trains on that corridor.To avoid any inconvenience to commuters, the faulty train would be shifted to the service tracks to clear the line. Later, it would be shifted to the designated Metro rail depot for repairs. The first model coach of HMR, manufactured by Korean-based Hyundai-Rotterdam, is expected to reach Hyderabad by this month end.The prototype has already started its journey from South Korea through the high seas and is expected to reach Chennai at the earliest before being brought to Hyderabad.

The citizens can get a glimpse of it as HMR is planning to display the prototype near People’s Plaza on Necklace Road. It will comprise of an engine cabin and a bogie.
