Gorakhpur: Residents of Tarang Crossing locality on Friday staged a protest and squatted on tracks demanding opening of the railway crossing gate. The protest stalled train movement on the route bringing Vaishali Express and a goods train to a halt for more than two hours. Police had to use force to disperse the protesters who fought a pitched battle and indulged in brick-batting. Seven protesters were later arrested.The protesters comprised mainly of residents from Humayunpur and Subhash Nagar area. They were demanding that the gate at the crossing be opened as they had to cover a long distance to reach other places.According to the reports, demonstrators stopped Vaishali Express from Delhi and a goods train. On being informed, RPF personnel were rushed to the site to disburse the mob. As the crowd swelled, RPF officials informed the civil police about the situation. ADM, city and SP, city, rushed to the site along with heavy police force.The officials tried to talk the demonstrators into allowing the train movement. As the latter refused to budge, the police resorted to lathi-charge. Infuriated mob resorted to pelting stone and fought a pitched battle with the police force for more than two hours.Seven protesters were arrested by the police for disturbing law and order situation.ADM, city, Badri Nath Singh said "people were agitated as they had to cover a long distance to reach places as railway overbridge (RoB) has been constructed. As per rule, crossing gates are closed after RoB is constructed over a crossing. However, closure of gates is causing problem for the residents of the area."

The ADM further said "we requested the railway officials to find a way out but they refused to flout the rule. Now, railway has to take a decision over it as we have asked them to open the gate for a certain period in view of the heavy traffic load."

Chief PRO of NER, Alok Kumar Singh said "it is not possible for us to open the gate as RoB has been constructed. Opening the gate will cost railways around Rs 10 lakh per year as three gatemen will have to be deployed. We have also closed the gate at Charphatak for the same reason. There are examples where state government has borne the cost of opening the gate. We have made stairs for pedestrians and closed the gate."

Sanjay Yadav, a resident of Humayunpur, lamented, " we don't know about the rules of railways and administration. We only know that we are facing a difficult situation. The gate is a link between the area and other parts of the city and people of Humayun pur area and Subhash Nagar area will be affected by the closed gate. We request Government and railways to think about the problems faced by the public."

NAGPUR: The Central Railway Nagpur Division inquiry report in the TVI Express (Travel Ventures International) scam, running into a few crores, has been systematically diluted by issuing minor penalties to most of the employees who were deeply involved in the fraud.On October 27 last year, TOI had exposed the scam in which Central Railway officials collected Rs15,500 each from employees and outsiders by influencing their official position to make them TVI members by offering four-day and three nights' stay in five-star hotels along with double returns.

Ajay Raj, assistant personnel officer (APO), took 10 months to submit the inquiry report. A copy of the report received under the RTI shows that the entire proceedings and findings of the probe have been camouflaged.

TVI scam involved at least 300 railway employees and an equal numbers of outsiders who were duped of crores of rupees. However, the probe did not go into the depth of the issue and examined only a handful witnesses. This is contrary to the inquiry conducted by the vigilance department from Mumbai wherein statements of at least 40 witnesses and victims were recorded. The vigilance department is yet to submit its report in this case.

The report states that accused officials' admitted their wives were also involved. However, TOI is in possession of documents which shows that officials were involved in the business.

A membership pyramid of 75 shows names of officials J L Joshi, PK Shesha, Smriti Dayani, Deepika Pradhan among others.

On February 16, 2011, Shesha's wife had even written to TVI to change her name from Prathana to Sadhana.

Despite this, the report tries to dilute the gravity of the scam by stating that there is no direct allegation or statement that kingpin of TVI scam Komal Gajbhiye, D K Soni and P D Raut took subscription money. However, it says their presence in the meetings organized to promote TVI memberships influenced complainants and people.

"These employees violated Rule 15(D) of the Conduct Rules which states that no railway servant shall, except with the previous sanction of the government - canvass in support of any business of insurance, commission etc owned by member of his family," the report stated.

The probe categorized TVI, a Ponzi scheme, as commission agency, instead.

The report states that movement inspectors Komal Gajbhiye, PD Raut, JL Joshi, SH Jalali, SS Karnale, area supervisor SK Jaiswal, goods guard JK Gaurav and stenographer with signalling department Smriti Dayani have acted in a manner which is unbecoming of railway servant by violating service rules.

Yet, the report let off Joshi, Jalali, Karnale, Soni, Gaurav and Jaiswal by issuing minor penalty charge sheet (SF-11), while Gajbhiye and Raut were issued heavy penalty charge sheet (SF-5). The senior divisional signalling & telecommunication engineer (SrDSTE) took a lenient view about Smriti Dayani, despite probe ordering a stern action.

An Indian railway company is preparing to connect the northeast Indian state of Nagaland with Burma, according to a local media report. The Nagaland Post on Thursday quoted an official from Northeast Frontier Railway saying the company was planning new lines to connect northeastern India with both Burma and Bangladesh. It said a survey was being conducted on a 160-mile line to link Indian states Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh to Tamu, in Burma’s Sagaing division. The plan is sanctioned by Indian Railways and could see new track laid in the next few years, the report said.

PUNE: The Pune division of Central Railway registered an increase in passenger fare earnings in first five months (April to August) of the current year as against earnings registered last year in the same period.

An official from the Pune division said the earnings increased by 6 per cent. In five months ended on August 2013 the division registered earnings of Rs. 230.77 crore, as against last year’s earnings of Rs.217.14 crore, an increase of Rs.13.63 crore.

Prominent stations like Pune, Khadki, Kolhapur, Satara, Miraj and Chinchwad fall under the Pune division which always witness rush of passengers, said an official. The administration has undertaken steps to increase passenger amenities at stations on Pune-Lonavla and Pune-Kolhapur tracks, he said.

The official said that parking slots for visitors have been started recently at the Shivajinagar and Chinchwad stations. One additional parking slot is proposed at the Pune station to benefit daily commuters and people who come to the station to see of friends and relatives.

The officials said that the administration has initiated ticket checking drive at prominent stations. Action is being taken against illegal travel which included ticketless travel in trains, entering railway stations without valid tickets and unbooked luggage. More than 5,000 cases have been booked by the administration pertaining to illegal travel in last five months in Pune division.

जिवनाथपुर से जिगना रेलवे स्टेशन के बीच चुनार व मीरजापुर सर्किल के छह पुलों के जीर्णोद्धार के लिए दो करोड़ की योजना को मंजूरी दी गई है। इन पुलों के मरम्मत का काम भी शुरू हो गया है।
वर्ष 1837 में बने पुल जर्जर हो गए हैं। उन पर काशन पर ट्रेनों को चलाया जा रहा है। झिंगुरा रेलवे स्टेशन के पूरब तरफ 503 नंबर रेलवे पुल पर 50 किलोमीटर के काशन पर राजधानी सहित अन्य ट्रेनों को चलाया जा रहा है। पुल के समीप एक किलोमीटर दूरी में नई रेल लाइन बिछाकर नया पुल का निर्माण होगा। पहाड़ा-डगमगपुर रेलवे स्टेशन के बीच बेलवन नदी पुल की दीवारों में दरार पड़ गई है। उसमें बड़े-बड़े पेड़ उग गए हैं। उन्हें हटाया भी नहीं जा रहा है।
आमघाट रेलवे पुल के जीर्णोद्धार का टेंडर हो चुका है। अब काम शुरू होना बाकी है। इस पुल का स्लीपर बदला जाना है। इसी प्रकार नटवा पुल के जीर्णोद्धार का कार्य हो रहा है। दावा किया जा रहा है कि पुल का जीर्णोद्धार यदि हो जाए तो ट्रेनें पूरी स्पीड से गुजरेंगी।
बाढ़ के पानी से क्षतिग्रस्त हो गया पुल
गैपुरा : गैपुरा-विरोही स्टेशन के बीच वर्ष भर पहले पुल का जीर्णोद्धार कराया गया था। आरोप है कि घटिया क्वालिटी की वजह से पुल इस बार की बाढ़ में क्षतिग्रस्त हो गया। नीचे से आवागमन बंद है। ग्रामीणों ने निर्माण की जांच की मांग की है। विरोही गांव निवासी रामनरेश पाल का कहना है कि बोल्डर का भी एक मानक होता है। अधोमानक बोल्डर लगाने से यह हालत हुई है। मामले की जांच कराई जाए।

उत्तर मध्य रेलवे इलाहाबाद के डीआरएम हरेंद्र राव का कहना है कि निर्माण की क्वालिटी की जांच होगी। दोषियों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई की जाएगी। उन्होंने कहा कि खस्ता पुलों के जीर्णोद्धार की प्रक्रिया शुरू हो गई है। इसके लिए बजट मिल गया है।

The Raj Bhasha Diwas (Hindi Day) celebrations at the Vijayawada Railway Divisional headquarters touched a new high with Divisional Railway Manager Preadeep Kumar announcing its achievement in implementation, which was much beyond the targets given to it.

The division has achieved 100 per cent target in translation work. For making notes/analysis the achievement was 49.1 per cent against 30 per cent target.

Disclosing these details at a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Pradeep Kumar said that the basic correspondence in all three levels of letters was 87.5 per cent to 66.9 per cent against a target of 55 per cent.

The division has achieved 100 per cent target in giving replies in Hindi to letters received in Hindi. Similarly, 100 per cent target was achieved in displaying of name boards, sign boards ion Trilingual and bilingual form, he said. The entries in registers/diaries and service registers was 97.6 per cent and 100 per cent respectively. Taking dictation in Hindi could be achieved up to 62.5 per cent while the target is 30 per cent. Some of the proud possessions of the division are 12 libraries with 18,692 books in Hindi, giving reservation charts in Hindi also, making announcement on all stations in Hindi along with Telugu and English. Cash awards were given to two employees — P. Hriday Raj and J. Janikamma — and an officer and four employees will receive General Manager’s individual cash award.
