The former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda on Saturday demanded that the Ministry of Railways take up construction of a new railway station near the KSRTC bus-stand in Hassan, considering the city’s growth.He spoke to journalists after interacting with Railway officers on the long-pending projects in Hassan district.“After a long time, we have a Railway Minister from Karnataka. I hope M. Mallikarjun Kharge will address issues pertaining to pending projects in Karnataka. I have appealed him to give due attention to projects related to Hassan,” he said.Mr. Gowda said land had been allotted to the Railways for the construction of the station. The work should start soon. “I am ready to talk to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on releasing the State government’s share of funds for the work. A flyover needs to be constructed to avoid regular traffic congestion at the level-crossing in the city,” he said.Mr. Gowda, along with Railway officers inspected the land notified for the railway station and the site of the proposed flyover. Senior officers of the Mysore Division of South Western Railway, MLAs H.D. Revanna and H.S. Prakash and MLC Patel Shivaram were also present. |

Duronto Express from Chennai to Coimbatore (12243) on Saturday came to a halt at the Avarampalayam railway gate at 1.43 p.m. after the gatekeeper failed to close the gate.According to sources in the railways, the train crossed the Peelamedu railway gate at 1.42 p.m.When it neared the Avarampalayam railway gate, the locomotive pilot brought the train to a halt after he found the signal red. On seeing the train, the gatekeeper rushed to close the gate. After a two-minute delay, the train left the Avarampalayam railway gate at 1.45 p.m.The sources said that the Avarampalayam gate keeper did not get the information on the approaching train as the phone was faulty. |

BATHINDA: A policeman died and another injured when their car collided with a train at an unmanned railway crossing near Jassi Bag Wali village in Bathinda district. Constable Surinderpal Singh was killed and assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Mukhtiar Singh was seriously injured as their Maruti Alto car rammed a goods train coming to Bathinda from Dabwali town in Haryana.Mukhtiar has been admitted to a hospital in Bathinda. The policemen were going to Baadi village in connection with some case when the accident took place. Eyewitnesses said the car got dragged for about 100 metres on the rail track after it hit the train.Surinderpal belonged Lahura village in Muktsar district. GRP incharge, Kuljit Singh, said railway police were looking into the incident. |

MUMBAI: Indain Railway Catering and Tourism corporation (IRCTC) will set-up its biggest Railneer Plant in Ambernath near Mumbai. It will be able to produce around 2 lakh bottles of one litre capacity per day. Railneer is the brand name of the packaged drinking water (PDW) produced by IRCTC, the subsidiary of Indian Railways. Rail Neer is manufactured as per BIS standard IS: 14543. It is supplied in trains and at railway stations. Pradip Kundu, Joint General Manager, Public Relations, IRCTC said, "Presently there is no plant in Western India. Hence, Railneer is not available in the trains or at stations in this part of the country. To meet the demand of Railneer in western part of country the plant at Ambernath will play a big role." At present, IRCTC is able to generate 4.1 Lakhs bottles every day in its 3 plants in different parts of the country.The plant at Ambernath will be built at a cost of Rs 10 crore. The work on installation of machine will start in Oct 2013 and plant is expected to be commissioned by Jan 2014. Presently, Railneer is supplied to all Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Duronto and important Mail/Express trains originating from Delhi, Kolkata, Patna, Chennai and Bangalore. It is also supplied to the stations in the above areas. A one litre bottle of Railneer is sold at Rs. 15 He further said, "At Ambernath the plant will come up 4000 Square meter built up area. Rainwater harvesting will also be done at the plant site to preserve the ground water level. Minimize extraction of water from ground will be ensured here by reducing water rejection. " The plant will be based on state-of-the art eight stage water purification technologies. It will have fully automatic bottle blowing, filling and packing line, where there is no human touch with the water or the bottle till the bottle is sealed. Kundu said, "The plant will meet the requirements of State Pollution Control Board norms.We will procure machines from reputed manufacturers like ION EXCHANGE for water purification and water treatment, SIDEL for bottle blowing, INGERSOLL RAND for compressor, HILDEN for filling and labeling." |

Changes in timings of 108 trains and introduction of five express trains and three passenger trains are the highlights of the new time table of Southern Railway that will come into effect from Monday.Although the timings, stoppages, and composition of the express and passenger trains, running through the State, announced in the last railway budget have featured in the railway time table, the date of introduction of the trains has not been announced by the zonal railways.The express trains are the 22633/22634 Thiruvananthapuram - Hazrat Nizamuddin Super Fast expresses (weekly) via Mangalore Junction, Konkan Railway; 22114/22113 Kochuveli - Lokmanya Tilak Super Fast express (biweekly) via Konkan Railway, Mangalore Jn., Shoranur Jn. Ernakulam Town, Kottayam; 18567/18568 Visakhapatnam- Kollam expresses (weekly) via Vijayawada, Gudur, Renigunta, Arakkonam bypass, Jolarpettai, Coimbatore and Kottayam;17235/17236 Bangalore City - Nagercoil expresses (daily) via Hosur, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Madurai, Tirunelveli; and 16861/16862 Puducherry - Kanyakumari expresses (weekly) via Villupuram, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruchirappalli, Manamadurai, Virudunagar, Tirunelveli. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has constituted an operations and maintenance team of 100 officials for taking over operations of the Airport Metro Express in the wake of a recent letter by concessionaire, Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Limited (DAMEPL), communicating that it will not be able to run the services after business hours on June 30.DMRC Director (Works) Jitendra Tyagi, Director (Operations) Sharat Sharma, Director (Electrical) A.K. Gupta and General Manager (Operations) Vikas Kumar held a meeting with officials of the concessionaire on Saturday for the smooth transition of services. With the concessionaire having made its intentions to withdraw from the services clear, both the organisations have been working together to ensure continuation of the smooth functioning of the line.The DMRC said the operations and maintenance team has been created under DMRC Director (Operations) Sharat Sharma to handle operations on the 22.7-km-long line. DMRC Managing Director Mangu Singh has also formed a core committee of seven senior DMRC officials to handle emergency situations.The Corporation said officials and staff will be deputed for all the strategic departments involved in the running of trains such as operations, traction, electrical and maintenance, civil, signalling and communications, security, rolling stock and finance. |

इलाहाबाद। रेलवे छिवकी स्टेशन पर लगातार ट्रेनों की संख्या बढ़ा रहा है। अगले कुछ महीनों में छह नई ट्रेनें छिवकी स्टेशन पर रुकने लगेंगी। मुंबई, इंदौर, हावड़ा और ग्वालियर के लिए यात्रियों में लोकप्रिय इन ट्रेनों के कारण स्टेशन पर भीड़ भी बढ़ेगी लेकिन छिवकी स्टेशन पर एक भी ऐसी सुविधा नहीं है जो यात्रियों के काम आ सके। निर्धारित वक्त पर यात्री पहुंच गए और ट्रेन लेट हो गई तो बारिश या धूप से बचने तक की जगह रेलवे ने नहीं बनाई है। साफ पानी, टिकट की सुविधा, मार्ग प्रकाश, प्रतीक्षालय जैसी मूलभूत जरूरतों की बात करना ही बेमानी है। यहां चाय, बिस्किट और नमकीन मिलने की बात सोचना भी मना है। बंगलुरू, चेन्नई, गोवा और मुंबई समेत दक्षिण भारतीय शहरों के लिए जितनी ट्रेनें छिवकी स्टेशन से चल रही हैं, इलाहाबाद जंक्शन पर भी उतनी नहीं हैं। इनमें कई गाड़ियां ऐसी हैं जिन्हें पकड़ने के लिए शहरियों को छिवकी जाना पड़ता है। महानगरी एक्सप्रेस, क्षिप्रा एक्सप्रेस, चंबल एक्सप्रेस, पटना-मुंबई जनता एक्सप्रेस, छपरा-दुर्ग एक्सप्रेस और पाटलिपुत्र-यशवंतपुर एक्सप्रेस के साथ यह सूची और बढ़ने जा रही है। इसके बाद छिवकी स्टेशन पर यात्रियों की संख्या में और इजाफा होना तय है, लेकिन स्टेशन पर उपलब्ध सुविधाएं ऐसी हैं कि यात्री थोड़ा भी चूक गए तो दुर्घटना तय है। छिवकी स्टेशन पर जितनी ट्रेनों का ठहराव है, उतना प्रयाग और रामबाग समेत आसपास के किसी भी बी श्रेणी के स्टेशन पर नहीं है। रेलवे ने स्टेशन के लिए नया भवन, टिकट काउंटर, आरक्षण काउंटर, नया फुटओवर ब्रिज, एक और नया प्लेटफार्म, पुराने प्लेटफार्म की सतह में सुधार, यात्री शेड, सड़क, प्रकाश, वेंडिंग स्टॉल आदि की योजना बनाई है लेकिन इन पर अमल कब होगा, कोई नहीं जानता। जबकि, ट्रेनों के साथ यात्रियों की संख्या में लगातार इजाफा हो रहा है। हालत ऐसी है कि रात में स्टेशन पर रुकना या पहुंचना लगभग मुश्किल काम है। मंडल रेल प्रबंधक हरींद्र राव ने दो महीने पहले दावा किया था कि सड़क और मार्ग प्रकाश के कार्य जल्द होंगे लेकिन यह भी शुरू नहीं हुए हैं। यात्रियों की मांग है कि पहले यात्री सुविधाएं बढ़ाई जाएं, फिर ट्रेनों का डाइवर्जन छिवकी से किया जाए। |
