Kolhapur: Terror has gripped the people visiting the Kolhapur Railway Station in Maharashtra. In the last two months, six people have been murdered there and all of them have been killed with their heads crushed by a stone. The deaths have sparked fears of a serial killer. "At this spot of the Kolhapur station people come and fall asleep and then they are found murdered," Dilip Desai, a social worker, said. The deaths have also taken a a political turn with the Shiv Sena questioning the failure of the police. Kolhapur is state Home Minister Satej Patil's constituency. "If the Kolhapur Police is not competent enough, then some other authority should be called in," said Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Pawar.

This isn't the first time the specter of a serial killed using heavy stones to kill people has emerged. In the 1980s, both Kolkata and Mumbai reported several deaths that went unsolved. Even now in Kolhapur, investigators are puzzled. No motive or pattern has been established so far.

There has been a demand to make Gulbarga a divisional headquarters: The appointment of M. Mallikarjun Kharge as Railway Minister on Monday has revived the hopes of people of the Hyderabad Karnataka region that their demands on improving the rail connectivity in the region would become a reality.Giving the Railway portfolio to Mr. Kharge, who missed the chance to become Chief Minister thrice, is seen in political circles as a recognition by the high command of his party loyalty .With Mr. Kharge heading of the Railway Ministry, the chances of Gulbarga getting a railway divisional headquarters, as recommended by the Sareen Committee several decades ago, appears to be bright. Hyderabad Karnataka, which got a raw deal as far as railway network was concerned, can now look to Mr. Kharge undoing the injustice done to the region so far.

Mr. Kharge, who was elected from Gulbarga Lok Sabha constituency in the 2009 elections and made Minister for Labour and Employment, took several steps including sanctioning high-tech super speciality ESIC hospitals in different parts of the country and opening medical colleges in the ESIC hospitals. He was also instrumental in sanctioning an ESIC Medical Complex, with a medical college, dental college, pharmacy and other paramedical institutes and a super speciality ESIC hospital in Gulbarga.

President Pranab Mukerjee, who was then the Union Finance Minister, had laid the foundation for the ESIC super-speciality hospital and medical complex in Gulbarga, which is in the advanced stage of construction. The Medical Council of India is understood to have given permission for admitting 100 students for MBBS course for 2013–14 at the ESIC medical college in the city.

PATNA: The Bihar government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a consultant - Rites Ltd - for feasibility study and Detailed Project Report preparation for the proposed 30-km Patna Metro railway project, officials said on Tuesday.The MOU was signed between the Rites Ltd Director (Projects) Arbind Kumar and Urban Development Secretary S Siddarth yesterday.Under the agreement, RITES Ltd will be required to submit the feasibility report by September, 2013 and DPR by December, 2013, they said.In its scope of works, the consultant will be required to identity the mass transit corridors on the basis of detailed traffic demand assessment study, topographic survey, soil survey at 500 meters interval on the proposed stretch among other measures, they said.

Haflong (Assam), June 18 (PTI) Two suspected insurgents with arms, ammunition and some documents were arrested from Lumding railway station in Dima Hasao district in Assam.

Based on intelligence inputs, the police and Railway Police Force arrested the two underground suspects Rahul Bodo alias Tusi Sukripa and Monjit Langthasa last night.

The news of auctioning the historic Sir Arthur Elibank Havelock Bridge across the Godavari shortly by the Railway Board came as a rude shock to the people of Rajahmundry as well as East and West Godavari district.

In a recent meeting, the General Manager of South Central Railway informed the local MLA that the Railway Board had taken a decision to auction the Bridge as scrap.

Immediately, the MLA appealed to Rajahmundry MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar to keep the decision of the Railway Board in abeyance and then represent it to Union Railway Minister and State Minister.

The issue, which has been hanging fire for long, has come to the fore again, when Union Minister of State for Railways Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy came to Rajahmundry in the month of December, 2012.

LUCKNOW: The movement of trains was affected due to heavy rain and waterlogging on the tracks in Ambala division on Monday.The 12231 Lucknow-Chandigarh Express and 15011 Lucknow Junction-Chandigarh Express scheduled on Sunday (June 16) were short terminated at Saharanpur and cancelled between Saharanpur and Chandigarh.The 12358 Amritsar-Kolkata Superfast Express, 15210 Amritsar-Saharsa Janseva Express, 12688 Chandigarh/Dehradun-Chennai Express and 12332 Jammu Tawi-Howrah Himgiri Express (scheduled on June 16) were diverted via Delhi-Ambala route.The 12317 Sealdah-Amritsar Akal Takhat Express and 15209 Saharsa-Amritsar Janseva Express (of June 16) were diverted via Najibabad-Gajraula-Ghaziabad-Adarsh Nagar Delhi-Ambala.The 14712 Sriganganagar-Haridwar Intercity Express and 12054 Amritsar-Haridwar Jan Shatabdi Express were short terminated at Ambala. Some passenger trains were also cancelled.

Hyderabad : In order to clear extra rush of passengers, South Central Railway will run a Janatha Special Train from Kakinada Town to Nanded with all general second class unreserved coaches as per the following schedule. Train No. 07102 Kakinada Town – Nanded Janatha Special Train will depart Kakinada Town at 22 30 hrs o­n 22nd June, 2013 (Saturday) and arrive Nanded at 15 00 hrs o­n the next day.
Enroute, this train will stop at Samalkot, Rajahmundry, Tadepalligudem, Eluru, Vijayawada, Madhira, Khammam, Warangal, Kazipet, Secunderabad, Malkajgiri, Kamareddi, Nizamabad, Basar, Dharmabad and Mudkhed Stations.
These trains will have 16 coaches viz., 14 General Second Class and two Second Class Luggage Cum Brake Van coaches.
