With M. Mallikarjun Kharge being allotted the Railways portfolio in the Union Cabinet reshuffle on Monday, the Ministry has returned to Karnataka after a short gap.

Monday’s reshuffle has also increased the number of Ministers at the Centre from Karnataka to five, with Oscar Fernandes being given the Roads and Highways Ministry portfolio.

The Railways has been with Karnataka on and off since 1963. H.C. Dasappa, C.M. Poonacha, Kengal Hanumanthaiya and C.K. Jaffer Sharief are among those from the State who have held the portfolio.

Basanagouda R. Patil Yatnal and K.H. Muniyappa have also been Ministers of State for Railways.

Mr. Kharge’s move to the Railway Ministry is seen as the party high command’s “reward” for his loyalty.

जालंधर. एकता नगर में बतौर पेइंग गेस्ट रहने वाली एक युवती गुरु नानकपुरा फाटक के पास ट्रेन की चपेट में आ गई। बस अड्डे के पास एक होटल में काम करने वाली नीलम शाम के समय करीब छह बजे घर लौट रही थी, तभी लुधियाना से आ रही पश्चिम एक्सप्रेस से हादसा हुआ। जीआरपी ने केस में धारा-१७४ के तहत कार्रवाई की है।

घटना के करीब डेढ़ घंटे बाद मौके पर पहुंची नीलम की बहन वंदना ने बताया कि वे लोग मूल रूप से उत्तराखंड के पौड़ी जिले के रहने वाले हैं। एक साल पहले नीलम जालंधर आई थी और होटल में काम करने लगी थी। उसने ही एकता नगर में एक कमरा दिलवा दिया था। प्रत्यक्षदर्शियों ने बताया कि युवती मेन रोड की बजाय रेलवे कॉलोनी के अंदर से रेल लाइन के पास पहुंची थी।

डाउन ट्रैक से शताब्दी एक्सप्रेस गुजर रही थी, इसलिए वह अप लाइन से सटकर खड़ी थी। वह फोन पर बात भी कर रही थी और एक पैर ट्रैक के ऊपर रखा हुआ था। शताब्दी के शोर में उसे पता ही नहीं चला कि अप साइड से भी ट्रेन आ रही है। पश्चिम एक्सप्रेस ने उसे टक्कर मारी। सिर और पैर में चोट लगने के कारण उसकी मौके पर ही मौत हो गई। उसका मोबाइल करीब करीब 25 मीटर दूर पड़ा हुआ था।

नई जिंदगी शुरू करने आई थी जालंधर

उत्तराखंड के पौड़ी जिले की रहने वाली नीलम की शादी सात साल पहले अपने ही इलाके के विकास के साथ हुई थी। विकास शादी के बाद से नीलम की कोई बात नहीं सुनता था। वह अपनी मां के कहे पर ही रहता था। मां नीलम को बिल्कुल नहीं पसंद करती थी। इसलिए बेटे के कान भरती रहती थी। विकास नीलम को प्रताडि़त करता रहता था। नीलम पांच साल तक ससुराल वालों की प्रताडऩा भी सहती रही।

नीलम हालात सुधारने की हर संभव कोशिश करती रही। एक दिन विकास और उसकी मां ने मिलकर उसे घर से निकाल दिया। सहारे के लिए वह पिता के घर गई। लेकिन पिता गांव के पूर्व प्रधान गोविंद प्रकाश ने नाक कट जाने की बात कहकर ससुराल में रहने की सलाह दी। नीलम ने जालंधर में रहने वाली बहन से बात की। बहन वंदना ने उसे सहारा दिया। एक साल पहले ही पौड़ी से उसे जालंधर बुला लिया।

यहां आकर करीब एक महीने तक बहन के साथ रहने के बाद नीलम ने बस स्टैंड के पास एक होटल में बतौर रिसेप्शनिस्ट काम शुरू कर दिया। सब ठीक चल रहा था। वंदना बताती हैं- नीलम भविष्य को लेकर हमेशा परेशान रहती थी।

कुछ दिन पहले पति और ससुर वाले जालंधर आए थे, मिलकर चले गए। नीलम को ले जाने की कोई बात नहीं कही। उसकी शादी को बरकरार रखने के लिए उत्तराखंड की महिला मंडली ने भी कोशिश की लेकिन मामला नहीं बन सका। अब नीलम को लगने लगा था कि जिंदगी अकेले ही कटेगी। वह कहती थी कि मैं अपनी जिंदगी अकेले काट लूंगी।

Haflong (Assam), June 18 (PTI) Two suspected insurgents with arms, ammunition and some documents were arrested from Lumding railway station in Dima Hasao district in Assam.

Based on intelligence inputs, the police and Railway Police Force arrested the two underground suspects Rahul Bodo alias Tusi Sukripa and Monjit Langthasa last night.

भारतीय रेल ने अप्रैल-मई 2013 में राजस्‍व कमाने वाले 171.91 मिलियन टन मालों की ढुलाई की। पिछले वर्ष की इसी अवधि में भारतीय रेल ने 164.38 मिलियन टन मालों की ढुलाई की थी। रेल से माल की ढुलाई में अप्रैल-मई 2013 में 7.53 मिलियन टन अधिक माल की ढुलाई की गई। माल ढुलाई में 4.58 प्रतिशत की वृद्धि दर्ज की गई। मई 2013 में 88.19 मिलियन टन राजस्‍व कमाने वाले मालों की ढुलाई की गई। पिछले वर्ष की इसी अवधि की तुलना में माल ढुलाई में 4.06 मिलियन टन की वृद्धि हुई और माल ढुलाई में 4.83 प्रतिशत की बढ़ोतरी हुई।

अम्बाला. यमुना नदी के बढ़े जलस्तर की वजह से ठप हुए अम्बाला-सहारनपुर रेलमार्ग ने यात्रियों के लिए मुसीबत पैदा कर दी। रेलवे को कैंट से सहारनपुर जाने वाली कई ट्रेनें रद्द करनी पड़ी। स्टेशन पर सुबह से ही हजारों यात्री परेशान रहे। स्टेशन पर देर रात तक ऐसे हालात रहे। टिकट रिफंड करने के लिए रेलवे को मजबूरी में अलग से काउंटर खोलने पड़े। यात्रियों में रोष था कि उन्हें पूरा रिफंड क्यों नहीं दिया गया। स्थिति पर नियंत्रण के लिए कामर्शियल स्टाफ के अलावा आरपीएफ जवानों को तैनात किया गया। रिफंड कराने के लिए देर रात तक स्टेशन पर यात्रियों की कतारें लगी थी।

 

यूटीएस पर हजारों रिफंड : जनरल टिकट खरीदने वाले यात्रियों को यूटीएस काउंटर पर रिफंड किया गया। शाम पांच बजे तक 1549 यात्रियों को टिकट के १६,९क्४ रुपए रिफंड किए जा चुके थे। यूटीएस काउंटर पर छह खिड़कियां, रिजर्वेशन काउंटर व रेलवे इंक्वायरी ऑफिस के साथ दो खिड़कियों पर रिफंड दिया गया।

 

दोपहर चलाई स्पेशल ट्रेन : जगाधरी जाने वाले यात्रियों की बढ़ती संख्या को देखते हुए रेलवे ने दोपहर सवा 12 बजे स्पेशल पैसेंजर ट्रेन चलाई। ट्रेन खचाखच भरी थी। बीच मार्ग में स्पेशल ट्रेन बराड़ा व अन्य स्टेशनों पर रुकते हुए जगाधरी गई।

 

पूरा रिफंड न मिलने पर गुस्साए

जनशताब्दी एक्सप्रेस में अमृतसर से हरिद्वार जा रहे कई यात्रियों में आक्रोश था। ट्रेन को कैंट स्टेशन पर रद्द किया गया। यात्रियों से अमृतसर से अम्बाला का किराया वसूला गया जबकि शेष रिफंड किया गया। यात्रियों की मांग थी कि उन्हें पूरा रिफंड किया जाए। यात्री मंजीत सिंह, सतपाल, कुलदीप राकेश ने कहा कि उन्हें रेलवे ने बीच मार्ग में छोड़ दिया है। पैसा भी पूरा नहीं लौटाया।

Patna: Two days after the Janata Dal (United) called it quits with Bharatiya Janata Party, the friends-turned-foes on Tuesday clashed outside the BJP office here, leaving many injured. While the principal opposition party observed 'Vishwasghat Diwas' across Bihar, JD(U) and BJP workers beat each other up with bamboo sticks and iron rods in Patna during the shutdown, injuring nearly half a dozen workers of both the parties. The clashes took place after the BJP workers raised slogan against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and JD-U workers countered them by raising slogan against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, a police official said. The clash broke out on the Veer Chand Patel Path - location of their state unit offices. Senior BJP leaders including CP Thakur, Sushil Kumar Modi, Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Syed Shahnawaz Hussain were detained at Dak Bunglow chowk, police said. Describing the bandh as "the biggest observed in Bihar since Emergency", Hussain said, "This is the beginning of the downfall of the Nitish government. We have not see such a massive shutdown earlier and JD(U) people will agree with me regarding the intensity of the bandh." Maeanwhile addressing a press conference, Bihar BJP chief Mangal Pandey said, “We were attacked by armed JDU workers outside our office." Hitting out at the Nitish government over secularism claims, Pandey said that BJP’s minority woman leader Fahida Khanum was assaulted and was singled out because of her religion and JD(U) talks of secularism. “We want to thank the people of Bihar for fully supporting us in our 'Bihar bandh' call,” Pandey further said. The buses in which these leaders were being taken away to Gardanibagh stadium was thronged by BJP workers. Earlier, the leaders led a protest march from party headquarters to Dak bunglow chowk in the heart of the town. As the law and order situation appeared to get out of control, District Magistrate N Sarvanan Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj rushed to the spot and pacified the warring groups. Talking to reporters, Bihar unit BJP chief Mangal Pandey charged that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had instigated JD(U) workers to foil the BJP-sponsored bandh and attack its workers. The bandh affected normal life with BJP workers forcing closure of shops, market places and disrupting movement of trains in the districts like Darbhanga and Nalanda - the native district of the Chief Minister, official sources said. Bandh supporters also blocked roads in Aurangabad, Purnia, Muzaffarpur and other districts. The day-long bandh has been called by BJP in protest against JD(U) parting ways with it in the wake of the appointment of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as BJP's election campaign committee chief. BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said his party has taken to the streets in Bihar as people were feeling "deeply humiliated and cheated" since they had given the mandate to JD(U)-BJP to govern. "We were governing very well. And suddenly, only because of ego and arrogance, you sought to break this alliance. Therefore, the people are really feeling very deceived. And to articulate that concern, we have hit the streets today," he told reporters here. On 'Brand Modi' taking BJP through in the Lok Sabha polls, Prasad said, "Modi is a very popular leader because of his governance, because of his integrity, because of his leadership...Whether he will become the Prime Ministerial candidate or not is a question which has to be decided by the party's Parliamentary Board." Taking on the Bihar Chief Minister, he said in 2003, Nitish Kumar had showered praised on Modi and maintained that he had material to serve the nation. "What happened in ten years?," Prasad said and criticised Kumar for not extending the "due protocol" to the Gujarat Chief Minister when he came to Bihar in 2010. The BJP leader accused Kumar of playing "politics of rank opportunism and convenience". He said, "If Modi is one of the most popular leaders of India, it is Nitish Kumar who is having a problem on that score...It is basically pure and simple vote bank politics." On Prime Minister Manmohan Singh describing Kumar as secular and the Bihar CM thanking him for the remark, Prasad said, "I am very happy that Nitishji was so desperate to get a certificate from the Prime Minister about his secular credentials. Good luck to him!" "But he is known to have impeccable anti-Congress credentials. And if you are inching towards that for rank opportunism, I am sure the people of the country are watching," he said, adding that the people would give a fitting response. Soon after the JD(U) ended its alliance, the BJP declared a black day that accused JD(U) of 'vishwasghat' (treachery). The JD(U) has 118 seats in the 243-member Assembly, four short of a majority, while the BJP has 91 members. There are six independents, while the Congress has four members.

Man walks away with suitcase of train motorman

A 45-year-old man who walked away with the suitcase of a train motorman in Tambaram early on Monday, was arrested at Dindigul later in the evening. The motorman’s documents, a cell phone and a flash light were recovered. However, the safety detonator sticks to caution oncoming trains in the event of a mishap and a key for the suburban electric trains are still missing.S.K. Eswaramurthy, a senior motorman, had finished his duty on Sunday and left his suitcase at the Station Master’s room. He returned to duty on Monday morning and was unable to find the suitcase. However, he was able to get a spare set of the kit and went about hiswork. Meanwhile information about the missing suitcase reached the Government Railway Police Station, Tambaram.The policemen browsed through closed circuit television visuals and noticed a stranger walking away with a suitcase on his shoulder at 1.50 a.m. on Monday. A message was passed on to all GRP Stations between Tambaram and Tirunelveli with the instruction to look out for a stranger with the suitcase.Meanwhile, information reached GRP men at Dindigul station about a stranger who had locked himself inside the toilet in the unreserved compartment on board the Vaigai Express. Policemen managed to bring him out and detained the suspect, later identified as S. Ramesh (47) of Kadaperi, Tambaram. However, Ramesh did not have the suitcase with him. He was brought to Tambaram on Tuesday morning.

While the motorman Mr. Eswaramurthy’s documents, flash light and a cell phone were recovered from Ramesh, the train engine’s key and detonator sticks are still missing. The detonators are part of the mandatory kit of motormen and guards to warn oncoming trains of a possible risk ahead. It may be recalled that in April 2009, an unknown person started an electric train, which collided with a goods train at Vyasarpadi Jiva railway station, resulting in the death of 4 people and injury to more than a dozen people.

There has been a demand to make Gulbarga a divisional headquarters: The appointment of M. Mallikarjun Kharge as Railway Minister on Monday has revived the hopes of people of the Hyderabad Karnataka region that their demands on improving the rail connectivity in the region would become a reality.Giving the Railway portfolio to Mr. Kharge, who missed the chance to become Chief Minister thrice, is seen in political circles as a recognition by the high command of his party loyalty .With Mr. Kharge heading of the Railway Ministry, the chances of Gulbarga getting a railway divisional headquarters, as recommended by the Sareen Committee several decades ago, appears to be bright. Hyderabad Karnataka, which got a raw deal as far as railway network was concerned, can now look to Mr. Kharge undoing the injustice done to the region so far.

Instrumental

Mr. Kharge, who was elected from Gulbarga Lok Sabha constituency in the 2009 elections and made Minister for Labour and Employment, took several steps including sanctioning high-tech super speciality ESIC hospitals in different parts of the country and opening medical colleges in the ESIC hospitals. He was also instrumental in sanctioning an ESIC Medical Complex, with a medical college, dental college, pharmacy and other paramedical institutes and a super speciality ESIC hospital in Gulbarga.

President Pranab Mukerjee, who was then the Union Finance Minister, had laid the foundation for the ESIC super-speciality hospital and medical complex in Gulbarga, which is in the advanced stage of construction. The Medical Council of India is understood to have given permission for admitting 100 students for MBBS course for 2013–14 at the ESIC medical college in the city.

Milestone

Heading the Railway Ministry is yet another milestone in the long political innings of Mr. Kharge who has the unique achievement of not having lost even one election.

Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Umakant Nigudgi congratulated Mr. Kharge. Congress party workers burst crackers and distributed sweets to express their happiness.
