Northeast Frontier Railway Sports Club through to last-four stage.

GUWAHATI, July 14 – NF Railway Sports Club, the defending champions of the GSA Super Division Football League, kept their cool till the final moments and hammered the final nail in Gauhati Town Club’s coffin to seal a semifinal berth in the Premier Agro Bio-Tech 9th NN Bhattacharya Football Tournament.

It was a thrilling quarterfinal match of the GSA organised tournament at the Nehru Stadium here today with the railwaymen winning 3-2. Till the 90th minute the scoreline was 2-2. But during the added time, lanky defender Dipak Ghatowar, who is also the skipper of the team, headed home firmly to seal the fate of the match in their favour. Anticipating the ball off a flag kick taken by Sibra Narzary, Dipak beat the Town custodian with a sharp header in the 91st minute.

Earlier, hard working and skilful Festos, a foreign recruit, put Town ahead in the 19th minute with a solo effort.

After the breather, Sibra Narzary drew parity in the 51st minute converting a spot kick. Town defender Deepak Varma handled the ball inside the box and a penalty kick was awarded in favour of NF Railway which Sibra did not miss.

Shankar Sil took NFR 2-1 ahead in the 68th minute with a header off a corner kick taken by Sibra. But the sturdy Festos netted Town’s second goal in the 75th minute, again with a solo effort, to level the issue.

However, Town could not guard their fort properly as Dipak found an open goal at the fag end to hit the winning goal.

It was a keenly contested encounter, best so far in this tournament, as both the teams showed tremendous courage and skills throughout the course.

Town had to pay the penalty due to weakness in their midfield and defence. Their attackers – Festos and Jon Nanna – created several openings and came close of scoring. But despite scoring two goals, they had to concede the match due to the spaces left by their defenders in the striking zone.

ट्रेन में सफर करते समय अगर आप पेंट्रीकार का खाना खाते हैं, तो सावधान हो जाइए। यह खाना आपकी सेहत के लिए महंगा भी पड़ सकता है। साफ-सफाई के अभाव में गंदगी के बीच तैयार हो रहा खाना आपको मुश्किल में डाल सकता है।ऐसी स्थिति मुजफ्फरपुर जंक्शन से खुलने व गुजरने वाली कई ट्रेनों के पैंट्रीकार की है। सोमवार को मुजफ्फरपुर से आनंद बिहार जाने वाली सप्तक्रांति व पवन एक्सप्रेस के पैंट्रीकार में जब जागरण टीम गई तो वहां का नजारा देख कर भौचक रह गई। गंदगी के बीच भोजन तैयार किया जा रहा था। इस दौरान कई यात्री भी पैंट्रीकार में खाने-पीने का सामान लेने पहुंचे और गंदगी देख वेंडरों पर बरस पड़े उन्होंने रेलवे अधिकारियों से इसकी शिकायत भी की। यात्रियों का कहना था कि पैंट्रीकार में जिस तरह गंदगी है उसे देखने के बाद कोई खाना नहीं खा पाएगा।उधर सप्तक्रांति के मैनेजर का कहना था कि यार्ड में करीब एक माह से पैंट्रीकार की सफाई के लिए निजी कंपनी व रेलकर्मी नहीं आ रहे हैं, जिसके कारण दिक्कत हो रही है। कई बार इस संबंध में शिकायत की गई, लेकिन कोई सुनने वाला नहीं है। मजबूरी में वेंडरों से सफाई करवानी पड़ रही है।

मालूम हो कि रेलवे बोर्ड ने एक साल पहले ट्रेनों व पैंट्रीकार की सफाई का जिम्मा निजी कंपनी को दिया था। छह माह तक निजी कंपनी ने सफाई की। इसके बाद वेतन भुगतान का मामला अटकने पर हाथ खड़ा कर दिया। इसके बाद रेलकर्मियों को जिम्मा दी गई, लेकिन सफाई राम भरोसे है।


पैंट्रीकार में कीड़ा मारने की दवा का नहीं हो रहा छिड़काव

मुजफ्फरपुर : पवन एक्सप्रेस, सप्तक्रांति, अवध एक्सप्रेस, गरीब रथ, बिहार संपर्क क्रांति, बांद्रा एक्सप्रेस के पैंट्रीकारों में कीड़ा मारने वाली दवा का छिड़काव नहीं हो रहा है। इससे यहां तेलचट्टा, चूहा आदि की भरमार रहती है। इसके अलावा अन्य कीड़े-मकोड़े भी यहां टहलते रहते हैं। दवा का छिड़काव न होने का कारण पैंट्रीकारों के प्लेटफार्म पर खाली नहीं करना बताया जाता है।

पैंट्रीकार व ट्रेनों की सफाई के लिए कोचिंग डिपो के कर्मियों को नियुक्त किया गया है। पन्द्रह दिनों में दवा का छिड़काव करना है। यदि सफाई व दवा का छिड़काव नहीं होता है, तो जांच होगी। पवन एक्सप्रेस का पैंट्रीकार खाली नहीं किया जाता है, तो उसपर जुर्माना लगाया जाएगा।

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro touched a record single-day ridership of 23.5 lakh on July 1 this year. But the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation wants more. Proposing a system of differential fares for the first time, DMRC wants to offer discounts to commuters who opt to travel duringnon-peak hours.

"Several cities abroad have different fares for different times of the day. This is an option that we plan to offer to the fare fixation committee once it is set up," said Sharat Sharma, director (operations), Delhi Metro.

The reason for the differential fare, says Sharma, is the low ridership during the off-peak hours. According to Delhi Metro figures, the capacity utilization of the coaches during this period is only 25%, or an average of 78 commuters in every coach. Compare this to the peak capacity, when the coaches carry 300 commuters on an average.

The suggestion is to offer the discounts not only time-wise but also line-wise, Sharma said. "The fact is that the ridership pattern needs to be level through the day for the Metro network to be fully effective."

The fare fixation committee is expected to be set up soon. Delhi Metro had earlier made a pitch for revising fares as well, citing increasing operational costs for a fare hike. According to Sharma, while the Delhi Metro was still making operational profits, the agency was running in losses as it has to pay back the JICA loan and spend on maintenance.

"One way to entice more riders is through better services, which is why we are also conducting a feedback survey of commuters. The other way is to offer incentives such as discounts for traveling during non-peak hours," added Sharma. A whopping 65-70% of the current ridership of the Delhi Metro comes from the peak hour figures.

At present, the Delhi Metro network carries on an average 20.1 lakh passengers over a 190km long network — more riders than the Taipei or Singapore Metros. The one Metro system in Asia that carries more passengers is Hong Kong, which has 4.1 million commuters travelling over 218km.

The Delhi Metro is also looking to penalize those using Metro facilities like feeder services and station parking while not using the Metro system. Said Sharma, "Our observation has been that the feeder buses and the parking facilities provided by the Delhi Metro are being used by those who are not entering the Metro system at all. This needs to be reduced to make the system more efficient."

This could be done through a time limit option, he added. "Perhaps a time limit could be introduced, where a user has to get into the Metro system within half-hour after entering the system through the feeder bus or parking, else the user will be penalized," said Sharma.

According to him, the use of the dedicated "More" cards could be one way of bringing down use of Delhi Metro facilities by non-Metro riders. However, with around two crore Metro smart cards already operational, Sharma admits that conversion to the "More" card has been difficult. The "More" card is the inter-modal common mobility smart card introduced by the ministry of urban development earlier this year.

On July 15, 2005, the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR), a marvel of engineering skill, was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO at Durban as an extension to the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway.However, even as locals and railway officials gather for celebrations for the eighth year, some have suggested more active measures to keep the NMR engines chugging.They have pointed out to the statement of southern Railway General Manager Rakesh Misra who had stated that while it costs about Rs. 5 lakh per day to keep the NMR going, it generated only Rs. 30,000 a day by way of returns.K. Natarajan, founder of Heritage Steam Chariot Trust, which is organising some of the celebrations, said that there were a number of existing initiatives that could be adopted to increase the revenues of NMR and turn it into a profit making venture in just two years.The number of coaches in the NMR, in some of its sections, was halved two years ago when the hauling capacity of the coal-fired locomotive went down affecting the services. Of these, nearly half the capacity was taken up by luggage. He suggested that more powerful locomotives that could haul more coaches even in steep gradients could be pressed into service. Use of diesel locomotives was ruled out by officials because the NMR system is run on rack-and-pinion system.The NMR services on the Coonoor — Udhagamandalam section is hauled by diesel locomotives and the Mettupalayam — Coonoor section by oil-fired steam locomotives. The train is operated using the X Class Swiss locomotives. The number of coaches differs for various sections of the total trip.A total of 56 could be seated per coach. Around 2,000 passengers travel in NMR daily as travelling while standing was also permitted.Further, he said that the NMR could generate Rs. 50 lakh per year from providing permission to film shooting. Further, the southern Railways had provided permission to operate the NMR on chartered basis and there were enthusiasts ready to pay Rs. 1 lakh per the trip. However, he claimed that local authorities were yet to give either adequate publicity or permission for such a trip.The concept of ‘foot plate’ journey — in which passengers could pay additional fees to travel in the engines itself — was once approved but now dropped.For every tourist visiting The Nilgiris, travelling by NMR at least in one direction is a dream. The train from Mettupalayam to Kallar runs on a normal track and from there it switches to the rack-and-pinion system for easy uphill haul on one of Asia's steepest tracks. The train chugs along through scenic areas during the 41.8-km journey and negotiates 208 curves, 16 tunnels and 250 bridges. The uphill journey takes 290 minutes and the downhill 215 minutes.

देहरादून से बांद्रा वाया मेरठ जाने वाली देहरादून-बांद्रा एक्सप्रेस में मेरठ से जुड़ने वाली नीमच लिंक मंगलवार से मंदसौर तक चलेगी। एक जुलाई को ट्रेनों की नई समय-सारिणी जारी होने के दौरान उत्तर रेलवे दिल्ली मंडल ने नीमच लिंक को मंदसौर तक बढ़ाने का ऐलान किया था।
सोमवार को पीआरओ एएस नेगी ने बताया कि रेल यात्रियों की सुविधा के लिए यह निर्णय लिया गया है। इसके अंतर्गत 29019/29020 मेरठ-कोटा-नीमच दैनिक लिंक एक्सप्रेस को मंदसौर तक विस्तार मिला है। मंदसौर-नीमच-मेरठ सिटी दैनिक लिंक एक्सप्रेस (29019) मंदसौर से दोपहर 2.05 बजे प्रस्थान करके उसी दिन दोपहर 2.40 बजे नीमच पहुंचेगी। वापसी दिशा में लिंक एक्सप्रेस (29020) नीमच से दोपहर 12.50 बजे प्रस्थान करके उसी दिन दोपहर 1.40 बजे मंदसौर पहुंचेगी। उन्होंने बताया कि लिंक एक्सप्रेस में डिब्बों का संयोजन नीमच और मेरठ सिटी के बीच नहीं बदलेगा।

The inaugural run of the new 'Puducherry-Kanyakumari (weekly) Express' was flagged off from Puducherry Railway station by Union Minister of State for Railways Kotla Jaya Sooriya prakash Reddy this evening.

Union Minister of State for Prime Minister's Office V Narayanasamy and Leader of the Opposition V Vaithilingam among others participated in the function.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Narayansami said with the introduction of the train a complaint that there was no train from Puducherry connecting the southern part of Tamilnadu has vanished.Steps would be taken to convert the weekly express into thrice a week and also to change the timeings,he said adding that efforts would be taken to introduce train service between Puducherry and Hyderbad and Puducherry and Ahamedbad.

Loco pilots shortage affects launch of new services’

The Indian Railways is facing a 10 to 20 per cent shortage of loco pilots, which has affected the launch of new trains, Minister of State for Railways Kotla Jaya Surya Prakash Reddy said.
For new trains, loco pilots are being used from the existing services, which will create further shortage. The railways was training a number of newly-recruited loco pilots.
Their training period should be completed in the next two months and new trains would be introduced after November, he told The Hindu on the sidelines of the launch of the new train from Puducherry to Kanyakumari here on Monday.
Mr. Reddy said the railways was working with the Territorial Administration on the location of the new railway station for Puducherry. Once the issue was settled, the UT would receive a new station at the cost of Rs. 400 crore.
The location of the station would also help determine the course of the new line, he said.
Additional General Manager of Southern Railways G. Narayanan said the Mamallapuram to Puducherry stretch of the line was being finalised.
Presently, the railways was working to bring three new trains to the Union Territory – the extension of the Bangalore to Nagore train to Karaikal, which would start in the next two days, the extension of the Mangalore-Tiruchi train to Puducherry and the Tirupati to Puducherry train. The trains were awaiting notification and they would be introduced in the next three months.
Speaking at the function, Union Minister of State for the Prime Minister’s Office V. Narayanasamy said steps would be taken to upgrade amenities at the Puducherry railway station, including an escalator to facilitate movement between the two platforms

Kasliwal who was earlier working with Mahindra Sathyam and spent a lot of time travelling between his home town Nashik to Hyderabad and Bangalore. It was during these trips that he came up with the idea. “People also complain that the price being charged on the train is more than the stipulated amount,” he adds.

Kasliwal started this venture last year and has so far catered to around 30,000 clients. Headquartered in Nashik, they have delivered to 130 locations across the country. “We have tied up with 200 restaurants and we serve only vegetarian food,” he says. MFC is a 20-member strong team whose aim is to provide fresh food to travellers. “The food we deliver is freshly prepared by the restaurants. The cut off time is one hour.”
