Barely 24 hours after a supervisor at a Namma Metro worksite was killed when a six-tonne steel frame collapsed on him, a rider was injured on Monday when an iron beam fell on his motorcycle along the same stretch. According to the police, Sridhar (38) was passing by the worksite near Gorguntepalya, when the H-beam came crashing down on his vehicle, injuring him. He is being treated at a private hospital and is said to be out of danger. Given that Sunday’s accident at the construction site near Peenya junction was fresh in the mind, the public staged a protest and forced work to stop, expressing anger at the “negligence” of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.

The RMC Yard police rushed to the spot and dispersed the crowd. “We have not filed a case as it was a minor incident and there is no complaint,” they said.

An official release from BMRCL confirmed that the H-beam was dropped while the work material was being lowered with a rope.

रविवारच्या मेगाब्लॉकनंतर लगेचच दुसऱ्या दिवशी सोमवारी हार्बर रेल्वेवर तांत्रिक अडचणीमुळे लोकल सेवा विस्कळीत झाली. सकाळी १०.५० वाजता रे रोड आणि कॉटन ग्रीन स्टेशन दरम्यान अप मार्गावर लोकल डब्यात तांत्रिक अडचण निर्माण झाल्याने हार्बरवर अर्धा ते पाऊण तास गोंधळ उडाला होता. सकाळी ११.१५ दरम्यान बिघाड दुरुस्त झाल्यानंतर वाहतूक हळुहळू पूर्ववत झाली.

हार्बरवर झालेल्या गोंधळामुळे तीन लोकल कुर्ल्यावरून मेनलाइनवर वळवण्यात आल्या. तीन लोकल फेऱ्या रद्द करण्यात आल्या. त्यात दोन पनवेल आणि एका बेलापूर लोकलचा समावेश आहे. मध्य रेल्वेने प्रवाशांच्या सुविधेसाठी वडाळ्यावरून पनवेलसाठी दोन आणि वांद्रेसाठी एक विशेष लोकल सोडली. ऐन गर्दीच्या वेळेस सीएसटीकडे जाणाऱ्या लोकल रखडल्याने प्रवाशांचे हाल झाले. दुरुस्तीस अर्धा तास लागल्यानंतर वाहतूक सुरू झाली.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) will not begin repair work on the two churches in Broadway for at least the next two days, as officials are waiting for a report from IIT-Madras experts who have inspected both buildings.The 152-year-old CSI Wesley Tamil Aalayam and the 121-year-old Arcot Lutheran Church on Prakasam Salai in Broadway, developed cracks due to ongoing Metro Rail tunnelling work in the area.Both buildings have been classified as ‘Grade 2A’ heritage structures by the Justice E. Padmanabhan committee report that lists heritage buildings in the city.“We, along with engineering experts from IIT-M inspected both buildings on Tuesday. The experts will now prepare a report on the nature of the damage and measures that can be taken to restore the buildings. Only after the report comes in, will we begin repair work,” said a CMRL official. If the repair work was on over the weekend, Sunday services in both churches could be affected, he said.“However we are still unsure about when we will begin. In any case, we don’t plan to evacuate the buildings during the repair work,” the official said.Meanwhile, the tunnel-boring machine has bored underneath the Arcot Lutheran Church and moved forward.CMRL officials had earlier told The Hindu that the cracks in buildings on Prakasam Salai were expected and unavoidable since the area is very congested and soil conditions are unpredictable.

“Despite precautionary measures, such cracks occur since most buildings on this stretch are very old,” said an official.

KOLKATA: Junior railway minister Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Tuesday flagged off the Howrah-New Jalpaiguri AC Superfast Express and inaugurated computerized reservation centres at several locations along the Howrah, Malda and Asansol divisions of Eastern Railway. He also announced extension of some trains and increase in frequency of others.Among those present at the programme were ER general manager G C Agarwal, Metro Railway GM Radhey Shyam and Howrah divisional railway manager A Dutta."It is important to run trains. But, it is equally important to provide better services, particularly in remote parts. We have to build necessary infrastructure to allow more trains to run. North Bengal is very important for the state. Till now, people from there were only connected to Kolkata through Sealdah. Now, with the introduction of this train, Howrah will also be connected to north Bengal," the minister said.

After the programme in Howrah, Chowdhury went to the South Eastern Railway's headquarters to give away the prizes for the 61st All India Railways Table Tennis Championship. He assured more support to sportspersons during the programme. On Tuesday, the minister also commenced doubling work, flagged off local trains and announced the extension of MEMU services at the Berhampore Court station.

हावड़ा से न्यू जलपाईगुड़ी (एनजेपी) के लिए एक और ट्रेन शुरू हो गई है। हावड़ा-न्यू जलपाईगुड़ी एसी एक्सप्रेस (साप्ताहिक) का मंगलवार को रेल राज्य मंत्री अधीर रंजन चौधरी ने हावड़ा स्टेशन पर उद्घाटन किया। यह ट्रेन मंगलवार रात 11.05 बजे छूटेगी व बुधवार सुबह 9.20 पर एनजेपी पहुंचेगी। वहीं बुधवार को यह दोपहर 12.35 बजे न्यू जलपाईगुड़ी से छूटेगी और रात 10.50 बजे हावड़ा पहुंचेगी। इसके साथ ही हावड़ा मंडल के कोटालपुकुर, गुसकरा, प्रांतिक एवं चौरागाछा तथा मालदा मंडल में बाकुडी, गनकर, जमीरघाटा, मिर्जा चौकी, महिपाल रोड, नाथनगर, सुजनीपाड़ा एवं तालझारी में कम्प्यूटरीकृत आरक्षण केन्द्र यूटीएस-सह-पीआरएस) का उद्घाटन हुआ। साथ ही हावड़ा मंडल के जिराट, अम्बिका कालना, समुद्रगढ़, पूर्वस्थली, बेलानगर, बेलूरमठ, बेलूर, बैद्यवाटी, हुगली, नसीबपुर एवं नालीकुल में प्लेटफार्म शेल्टर का उद्घाटन हुआ। इसके अलावा हावड़ा-मालदा इंटरसिटी एक्सप्रेस तथा मालदा टाउन-जमालपुर एक्सप्रेस का आवागमन सप्ताह में 6 दिन से बढ़ाकर दैनिक किया गया। नई दिल्ली-फरक्का एक्सप्रेस का मालदा टाउन तक विस्तार की घोषणा की गई।
इस मौके पर अधीर रंजन चौधरी ने कहा कि कोलकाता, बांकुड़ा जैसे जिलों से उत्तर बंगाल जाने के लिए यह ट्रेन बहुत जरूरी थी। इसके पहले मात्र दो ट्रेनें थी जो उत्तर बंगाल जाती थी। वहीं उत्तर बंगाल के लोगों के लिए यह ट्रेन रेलवे का उपहार है। वहां के लोगों को यह ट्रेन कोलकाता से जोड़ेगी। कार्यक्रम में पूर्व रेलवे के महाप्रबंधक जीसी अग्रवाल ने स्वागत भाषण में कहा कि यात्री सुविधाओं के लिए पूर्व रेलवे ने नई सुविधाएं शुरू की है।

The State government has urged the MPs from the State to mount pressure on the Centre for carving out an exclusive railway zone for the State, Rural Development Minister K. C. Joseph has said.Briefing reporters about the deliberations at the MPs’ conference held here on Tuesday to discuss the issues to be raised at the monsoon session of Parliament, Mr. Joseph said that there was no dispute over the headquarters of the zone and it will be set up at a place acceptable for all. The Central government has not yet got the report of the committee appointed by the government for setting up railway zones. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy who chaired the session sought the MPs’ cooperation to take up the issue with the Centre.The import duty on rubber has been fixed at 20 per cent or Rs. 20 per kg whichever is less. The meeting resolved to urge the Centre to fix the duty at 20 per cent itself. The State government had sought Rs. 607 crore to overcome the damage caused by the monsoon. Though the State was eligible only for Rs.403 crore, the meeting decided to seek assistance as per the report and also include compensation for sea erosion and deaths due to lightening strike in the Central norms.

Steps for expediting work on the Kanjikode coach factory was yet another demand set by the State government. The delay in starting the work was a matter of concern. The hurdles thrown up by the banks in the State in waiving the interest on the education loan of students with an annual income up to Rs.3 lakh will be raised in Parliament. Since road works under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana in the State have been completed, the State will demand for inclusion in the second phase. The issue of granting central assistance for the kole farmers in Thrissur too would be taken up, he said.

Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies K. V. Thomas who attended the meeting explained the significance of the Food Security Act and said that there will be no cut in the Central grain quota to the State.

Steps for distributing food and providing medical care to the tribes of Attapady too were discussed. Except Union Ministers A .K .Antony, Shashi Tharoor and E.Ahamed and M.I.Shanavas, MP, all UDF MPs were present. LDF MPs boycotted the meeting.

इलाहाबाद (ब्यूरो)। उत्तर मध्य रेलवे ने वित्तीय वर्ष 2013-14 की पहली तिमाही में पिछले साल की अपेक्षा 25.47 फीसदी बढ़ोतरी दर्ज की है। सीपीआरओ संदीप माथुर के मुताबिक प्रारंभिक यात्री आय में 18.79 फीसदी बढ़ोतरी करते हुए 328.55 करोड़ रुपये कमाए। कोचिंग आय में 40.94 फीसदी की बढ़ोत्तरी हुई है। मालभाड़ा आय में 45.54 फीसदी की बढ़ोतरी कर 298.73 करोड़ रुपये की आय की। स्क्रैप निस्तारण में ई-नीलामी के जरिए 20.47 करोड़ की आय के साथ 43.12 करोड़ रुपये की कमाई की है। दावा किया कि भंडार विभाग का यह कदम नीलामी प्रक्रिया को और पारदर्शी बनाने की दिशा में बड़ा प्रयास है।

आसनसोल रेल मंडल के ईशान चंडी हाल्ट पर दो जोड़ी पैसेंजर ट्रेन 31 जुलाई से रुकेगी। रेल पीआरओ विभाग ने बताया कि 63520/63521 एवं 63510/63511 नंबर की आसनसोल व‌र्द्धमान मेमू पैसेंजर ट्रेन ईशान चंडी हाल्ट पर रुकेगी। डाउन दिशा में सुबह 7.43 बजे व दोपहर 3.34 बजे तथा अप दिशा में सुबह 6.59 बजे और शाम 4.23 बजे ट्रेन यहां रुकेगी।

नई दिल्ली (ब्यूरो)। एयरपोर्ट मेट्रो अब देर रात अमृतसर से दिल्ली आने वाली शताब्दी ट्रेन के पहुंचने के बाद ही रवाना होगी।
अमृतसर से दिल्ली आने वाली शताब्दी का समय रात 11 बजकर 5 मिनट है। अगर ट्रेन दिल्ली पहुंचने में थोड़ा लेट हो गई तो एयरपोर्ट मेट्रो भी 11 बजकर 45 मिनट तक यात्रियों का इंतजार करेगी। वैसे नई दिल्ली से आखिरी एयरपोर्ट मेट्रो का वक्त 11 बजकर 30 मिनट है। इस रूट पर सुबह की सेवा के वक्त और ट्रेन की रफ्तार में भी बदलाव किया जा रहा है।
•मेट्रो भी अब दिल्ली दर्शन में
मेट्रो को अब दिल्ली दर्शन (टूर पैकेज) में शामिल कर लिया गया है। दिल्ली दर्शन की जो बस चलती है वो अब सैलानियों को आईएनए स्टेशन से पटेल चौक की यात्रा के लिए मेट्रो स्टेशन पर छोड़ देगी। इसके लिए उनके महज 12 रुपये एक्स्ट्रा लिए जाएंगे। पटेल चौक के बाहर से सैलानियों को लेकर बस फिर आगे के सफर पर चल देगी।
रिकॉर्ड लोगों ने किया सफर
सोमवार को मेट्रो की सेवा तीन घंटे प्रभावित रहने के बावजूद मेट्रो ने इस दिन रिकॉर्ड सवारियां ढोईं। कुल 24.09 लाख लोगों ने सवारी की।
