भारत के पूर्वोत्तर इलाके में ब्रहृमपुत्र नद पर देश का सबसे लंबा रेलवे पुल बनाया जा रहा है. दरअसल, असम के डिब्रूगढ़ जिले में असम और अरुणाचल प्रदेश की सीमा पर तकरीबन 5 किमी लंबा यह रेल-सह-सड़क पुल बनाया जा रहा है. भारत सरकार ने वर्ष 1997-98 में इस पुल के निर्माण की मंजूरी दे दी थी, लेकिन 21 अप्रैल, 2002 को तत्कालीन प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी द्वारा इसके शिलान्यास के पश्चात ही इसका कार्य आरंभ हुआ था.

शुरुआत में इसके निर्माण की गति धीमी रही, लेकिन 2007 में राष्ट्रीय महत्व की परियोजना का दर्जा दिये जाने के बाद इसके निर्माण कार्य में तेजी आयी. इसकी लागत का 75 फीसदी रकम वित्त मंत्रलय और शेष रकम रेल मंत्रलय मुहैया करायेगी. इस पुल की लागत शुरुआत में 1,767 करोड़ रुपये बतायी गयी थी, जिसके संभवत: 2015 में निर्माण कार्य संपन्न होने तक चार हजार करोड़ रुपये पहुंच जाने की संभावना जतायी गयी है. इस पुल में कुल 42 पिलर बनाये गये हैं, जिन पर 125 मीटर लंबे स्टील के बने हुए स्पैन डाले जा रहे हैं. इसे पूरी तरह से स्टील और कंक्रीट के ढांचे से तैयार किया जा रहा है.

इस पुल के निचले हिस्से में रेलवे की दो लाइनें और ऊपरी हिस्से में तीन लेन की सड़क होगी. इस पुल को रेल लिंक से जोड़ने के लिए इसके दोनों तरफ रेल लाइन बिछायी जा रही है. इसमें दक्षिणी किनारे का अधिकांश रेल लिंक तैयार हो चुका है. इस पुल का प्रारंभिक निर्माण अध्ययन और विस्तृत डिजाइन का कार्य रेल इंडिया टेक्नीकल एंड इंजीनियरिंग सर्विसेज ने किया, जबकि इसका ढांचा गैमन इंडिया द्वारा तैयार किया जा रहा है.

The increasing traffic on the city roads has compelled the UT Administration to mull over alternative routes to reduce congestion. To improve connectivity between the Chandigarh Railway Station and the Airport, the UT Administration has proposed a new road connecting the two destinations.For construction of the road that would stretch around 2.5 kilometre, some land will be acquired from the Railways. Apart from this stretch, several other proposals have also been mooted for enhancing connectivity between various destinations.At present, there is no direct connectivity between the Railway Station and the Airport. Those who have to commute between the two destinations have to take a longer route. The new road is expected to shorten the distance. The road will be from in front of Daria village and connect to another road that leads to the Airport.Chief Engineer S K Chadha said that once land was acquired from the Railways, the road would be constructed. He added that the road would facilitate those commuting between these two destinations and ease traffic congestion.Apart from this, there are certain other proposals that have been mooted for increasing connectivity with the Airport. These are part of the draft Master Plan 2031 for the city. With the new terminal being under construction on Mohali side, it is desired that this should be accessible from Chandigarh. An underground tunnel connecting the old and new terminal is proposed to be constructed.

Another option being mulled over is connectivity from Purv Marg near Sector 48. Connectivity from Zirakpur side is also in the pipeline to enable easy accessibility from all sides. The Chandigarh Administration has already raised the issue with High-Powered Inter-State Coordination Committee constituted by the Centre.

The increasing vehicular population in Chandigarh is raising the necessity for providing alternative roads to different destinations. The total daily traffic studies at outer cordon points indicate that about 1,52,650 vehicles enter or leave Chandigarh Urban Complex on a typical working day. There is also high through passenger and freight traffic across the city.Madhya Marg is thought to be the worst affected of the roads since it provides the shortest and direct connection between the towns of Punjab, including Mullanpur, Kharar and Anandpur Sahib on the west. On the eastern side, Manimajra, Panchkula, Pinjore, Kalka and Chandimandir Cantonment in Haryana as well as some towns of Himachal Pradesh are connected through this. The through traffic across the city had added to the congestion on the road.

The Master Plan points out that the well-defined hierarchy of roads has been disturbed due to the inter-city traffic and the increased traffic within the city. It is said that at some places, the roads are approaching their capacity while at others these are serving more than their capacity. Alternative roads to Panchkula have already been planned. An overbridge to remove traffic bottleneck at level crossing at Mauli Jagran is under construction while another has been approved for the crossing at Manimajra. This would provide additional routes to Panchkula.

रानीगंज के सियारसोल पोस्ट आफिस में रेलवे आरक्षण केन्द्र का उद्घाटन राज्य रेल मंत्री अधीर रंजन चौधरी द्वारा हावड़ा से ही किए जाने की सूचना पर मंगलवार को पोस्ट आफिस में आसनसोल रेलमंडल के रानीगंज के आरक्षण अधिकारी एस चटर्जी, अधिकारी एससी मल्लिक मौजूद थे। रेल और पोस्ट आफिस के संयुक्त प्रयास से यात्रियों की सुविधा के लिए इसे शुरू किया गया है। वर्तमान में सुबह 8 बजे से दोपहर 2 बजे तक यहां लोगों को आरक्षण की सुविधा मिलेगी।

The photo exhibition showcasing the evolution and rare moments of the railway journey was inaugurated by Indra Ghosh, General Manager, East Coast Railway, at Railway Stadium, Mancheswar, on Tuesday.More than 200 rare photographs portraying the journey of the Railways are being displayed in the exhibition, reviving the nostalgia of passengers with ancient trains, engines, and political dignitaries making their journeys.

हावड़ा से न्यू जलपाईगुड़ी (एनजेपी) के लिए एक और ट्रेन शुरू हो गई है। हावड़ा-न्यू जलपाईगुड़ी एसी एक्सप्रेस (साप्ताहिक) का मंगलवार को रेल राज्य मंत्री अधीर रंजन चौधरी ने हावड़ा स्टेशन पर उद्घाटन किया। यह ट्रेन मंगलवार रात 11.05 बजे छूटेगी व बुधवार सुबह 9.20 पर एनजेपी पहुंचेगी। वहीं बुधवार को यह दोपहर 12.35 बजे न्यू जलपाईगुड़ी से छूटेगी और रात 10.50 बजे हावड़ा पहुंचेगी। इसके साथ ही हावड़ा मंडल के कोटालपुकुर, गुसकरा, प्रांतिक एवं चौरागाछा तथा मालदा मंडल में बाकुडी, गनकर, जमीरघाटा, मिर्जा चौकी, महिपाल रोड, नाथनगर, सुजनीपाड़ा एवं तालझारी में कम्प्यूटरीकृत आरक्षण केन्द्र यूटीएस-सह-पीआरएस) का उद्घाटन हुआ। साथ ही हावड़ा मंडल के जिराट, अम्बिका कालना, समुद्रगढ़, पूर्वस्थली, बेलानगर, बेलूरमठ, बेलूर, बैद्यवाटी, हुगली, नसीबपुर एवं नालीकुल में प्लेटफार्म शेल्टर का उद्घाटन हुआ। इसके अलावा हावड़ा-मालदा इंटरसिटी एक्सप्रेस तथा मालदा टाउन-जमालपुर एक्सप्रेस का आवागमन सप्ताह में 6 दिन से बढ़ाकर दैनिक किया गया। नई दिल्ली-फरक्का एक्सप्रेस का मालदा टाउन तक विस्तार की घोषणा की गई।
इस मौके पर अधीर रंजन चौधरी ने कहा कि कोलकाता, बांकुड़ा जैसे जिलों से उत्तर बंगाल जाने के लिए यह ट्रेन बहुत जरूरी थी। इसके पहले मात्र दो ट्रेनें थी जो उत्तर बंगाल जाती थी। वहीं उत्तर बंगाल के लोगों के लिए यह ट्रेन रेलवे का उपहार है। वहां के लोगों को यह ट्रेन कोलकाता से जोड़ेगी। कार्यक्रम में पूर्व रेलवे के महाप्रबंधक जीसी अग्रवाल ने स्वागत भाषण में कहा कि यात्री सुविधाओं के लिए पूर्व रेलवे ने नई सुविधाएं शुरू की है।

Five persons had a miraculous escape at an unmanned railway level crossing near Bhaliagada on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday when the van in which they were travelling was hit by Bhubaneswar-Visakhapatnam intercity express.According to the railway police sources, driver of the van had taken the vehicle to the track while the Chennai-Puri express was crossing on the up track. While the van was on the down track, the intercity express was seen approaching on the same track.Panicked driver and passengers of the vehicle jumped to safety, leaving the vehicle on the track. The train hit the vehicle and went ahead. After the accident, villagers blocked the track demanding a railway gate there. Following the agitation, the Bhubaneswar-Secunderabad Visakha Express and Guwahati-Bengaluru express were stranded at Berhampur railway station for some time.

The State government has urged the MPs from the State to mount pressure on the Centre for carving out an exclusive railway zone for the State, Rural Development Minister K. C. Joseph has said.Briefing reporters about the deliberations at the MPs’ conference held here on Tuesday to discuss the issues to be raised at the monsoon session of Parliament, Mr. Joseph said that there was no dispute over the headquarters of the zone and it will be set up at a place acceptable for all. The Central government has not yet got the report of the committee appointed by the government for setting up railway zones. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy who chaired the session sought the MPs’ cooperation to take up the issue with the Centre.The import duty on rubber has been fixed at 20 per cent or Rs. 20 per kg whichever is less. The meeting resolved to urge the Centre to fix the duty at 20 per cent itself. The State government had sought Rs. 607 crore to overcome the damage caused by the monsoon. Though the State was eligible only for Rs.403 crore, the meeting decided to seek assistance as per the report and also include compensation for sea erosion and deaths due to lightening strike in the Central norms.

Steps for expediting work on the Kanjikode coach factory was yet another demand set by the State government. The delay in starting the work was a matter of concern. The hurdles thrown up by the banks in the State in waiving the interest on the education loan of students with an annual income up to Rs.3 lakh will be raised in Parliament. Since road works under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana in the State have been completed, the State will demand for inclusion in the second phase. The issue of granting central assistance for the kole farmers in Thrissur too would be taken up, he said.

Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies K. V. Thomas who attended the meeting explained the significance of the Food Security Act and said that there will be no cut in the Central grain quota to the State.

Steps for distributing food and providing medical care to the tribes of Attapady too were discussed. Except Union Ministers A .K .Antony, Shashi Tharoor and E.Ahamed and M.I.Shanavas, MP, all UDF MPs were present. LDF MPs boycotted the meeting.

For the convenience of the rail passengers and to increase the passenger carrying capacity of trains, Railway has decided to extend the augmentation of the train nos. 15707/15708 Katihar-Amritsar-Katihar Express, 22811/22812 and 22823/22824 Bhubaneswar- New Delhi-Bhubaneswar RajdhaniExpress trains on temporary basis as per the under-mentionedprogramme:-

·The 15707/15708 Katihar-Amritsar-Katihar Express train has been augmented by One additional General Second Class Coach from 01.08.2013 to 30.09.2013 when departing from Katihar and from 04.08.2013 to 03.10.2013 when departing from Amritsar. The other features like timings, route, stoppages etc. will remain as unchanged.
·The 22811/22812 and 22823/22824 Bhubaneswar-New Delhi-Bhubaneswar RajdhaniExpress trains have been augmented by One additional A.C.2 Tier and Threeadditional A.C.3 Tier Coaches each from 01.08.2013 to 31.08.2013 when departing from Bhubaneswar and from 02.08.2013 to 01.09.2013 when departing from New Delhi. The other features like timings, route, stoppages etc. will remain as unchanged.

PERMANENT AUGMENTATION OF REWA EXPRESS TRAIN

The 12428/12427 Anand Vihar T.- Rewa- Anand Vihar T. Express train will be augmented permanently by One additional First A.C. cum A.C.2 Tier Coach from 01.08.2013 when departing from Anand Vihar T. and from 02.08.2013 when departing from Rewa. The other features like timings, route, stoppages etc. will remain as unchanged.

A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court, on Tuesday, upheld a single judge's order that season ticket holders were not entitled to travel in reserved coaches.

The Bench comprising Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice K Vinod Chandran passed the order while dismissing a petition filed by Nazarudeen from Kozhikode, challenging the  Railways stipulation that first class season ticket holders were allowed to travel only in unreserved coaches. The bench observed that it agreed with an earlier judgment of the High Court that season ticket holders were not permitted in reserved compartments.

The earlier judgment had held that persons who had reserved tickets would have to be protected and their problems also will have to be addressed by the Railways. Railways submitted that under the Indian Railway Commercial Manual, Railways are bound to see that passengers who had reserved their berths are properly accommodated.

The Railways said that journeys undertaken by first-class season ticket holders in reserved coaches, including sleeper-class on Express trains, are not permitted. All season ticket holders, including those who posses valid first-class season tickets, are bound to travel by general coaches, in case a particular train does not have an unreserved coach, the Railways said.

First class season tickets are issued by the Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division for Parasuram and Venad Express trains, on which unreserved first class coaches are available
