On Saturday a new high speed rail link between mainland China and Hong Kong opened which will vastly reduce travel time between the two places. It took 8 years to build the system with investment as much as 10 billion dollars. This new system can ferry 80,000 passengers per day to the manufacturing hub of Guangdong province.

The train travels the 26 km through Hong Kong to Shenzhen across the border in China in just 14 minutes. Till date trains took as much as 1 hour to complete the same distance. Immigration process would be done at newly built West Kowloon terminus as Hong Kong has its own mini-constitution and it practices its own laws and civil liberties after reverting from British to Chinese rule in 1997.

The Hong Kong legislature’s passage in June of the plan to allow Chinese law to apply at the railway terminus was a significant moment for the opposition, coming four years after mass street protests demanding reforms fizzled out amid Beijing’s intransigence.

Railway Board has issued instructions to revised the charges of porterage at railway stations charged by the sahayaks. Following the instructions Northeast Frontier Railway has revised the charges. 

The new charges for carrying -

• Up to 40 kg per head of luggage by sahayaks - Rs 80. 
• Use of wheelchair or stretcher – Rs 100 
• Carriage of luggage by trolley – Rs 150 

Note - The porterage charges were last revised in 2012. 

“The economic and living conditions of the sahayaks were a matter for concern and the new rate is expected to be beneficial for the sahayaks. The realistic revision of the porterage charge is expected to curb overcharging by a section of the sahayaks. Passengers too are requested to pay only as per the approved rates and to avail the service of the licensed sahayaks only,” said PJ Sharma, Chief PRO of NRF.

ट्रेन के सफर के दौरान चाय और कॉफी पीने का शौक रखने वालों के लिए ये अच्छी खबर नहीं है। रेलवे ने ट्रेन में मिलने वाली चाय और कॉफी के दाम बढ़ाने का फैसला किया है। रेलवे बोर्ड द्वारा सभी रेल जोनों को जारी सर्कुलर के अनुसार बर्तनों में चाय या कॉफी देने की सुविधा को बंद करने के साथ ही भारतीय रेलवे ने चाय और कॉफी के दामों में वृद्धि करने का निर्णय लिया है।

टी बैग के साथ 150 मिली कप चाय और इंस्टैन्ट कॉफी पाउडर वाली 150 मिली कॉफी को 170 मिली डिस्पोजल कप में दी जायेगी जिसकी कीमत 7 रुपये से बढ़ाकर 10 रूपये प्रति कप होगी। हालांकि सामान्य चाय की कीमत 5 रूपये प्रति कप रहेगी। ये सर्कुलर 18 सितंबर को जारी किया गया था।

Central Railway held a Pension Adalat at headquarters level for redressal of grievances of pensioners at General Manager’s Office Building at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Building o­n September 18.  This Pension Adalat was held based o­n the suggestions and direction of Departmental Parliamentary Standing Committee of Ministry of Personnel Public Grievances and Pensions. Accordingly notification and advertisement were issued for the same. Headed by a committee of officers from the Personnel & Accounts Department and chaired by senior officers, grievances received from pensioners are taken up and solved in these Pension Adalats. 

Out of the 465 cases received, 394 cases were disposed off immediately.  Central Railway also undertook a drive to clear zonal cases of grievances posted in CPENGRAMS. All 9 cases received were disposed off.
