Special Trains run between Banihal and Baramulla in J&K on the eve of Eid
To clear extra rush on the occasion of Eid festival, Northern Railway will run special trains between Banihal and Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir for three days from today.

Special trains will be pressed into service between Baramulla and Banihal from tomorrow to facilitate passengers travelling during the festive period, said a senior Northern Railway official.

The Banihal-Qazigund section, part of the Kashmir rail link project, was recently commissioned with much fanfare in the presence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

The special train service will be available for three days from August 9 to 11 in the section.

The Special train will start operation from Budgam at 6.10 AM to arrive Banihal at 7.50 AM the same day. In return the train will leave Banihal at 8 AM to reach at 9.43 AM.

Another train will depart from Baramulla at 2.10 PM to arrive Banihal at 5.55 PM.

Similarly, more trains will run in the section during the day including the last special train will depart from Banihal at 6 PM to arrive at Budgaon at 8.10 PM.

Demanding a separate Koshal state comprising western Odisha districts, activists under the banner of Koshal Kranti Dal (KKD) today staged a rail roko agitation here.

As a result, express, passenger and goods trains remained stranded at various railway stations, official sources said.

"We have already requested the state and Union government to take immediate steps for formation of Koshal state," KKD president Upendra Mohapatra said.

Bhubaneswar-Bolangir Intercity Express and a goods train were detained at Sambalpur Road station for some time by activists along with students here.

Howrah-Jagadalpur Express was stranded for some time at Bargarh as slogan shouting agitationists squatted on the railway tracks.

Similar demonstrations were staged at Bolangir and Jharsuguda railway station affecting the traffic.

"The rail roko agitation was successful and people from all walks of life spontaneously participated in it," said KKD president.

Earlier on Saturday, rasta roko agitation was held in 10 districts on national highways and state highways linking Western Odisha, said Mohapatra.

बिलासपुर। पुरी या फिर शिरडी जाने वालों को एक और साप्ताहिक ट्रेन की सुविधा रायपुर से मिलेगी। इस बजट में घोषित पुरी-शिरडी साप्ताहिक एक्सप्रेस 16 अगस्त से पटरी पर आएगी।

रेल प्रशासन ने ट्रेन को शुरू करने की तैयारी कर ली है। ट्रेन पेंट्रीकार सहित 22 कोच के साथ चलेगी। वर्ष 2013-14 के रेल बजट में पुरी से शिरडी के लिए एक साप्ताहिक ट्रेन की घोषणा हुई थी। इस ट्रेन को 16 अगस्त से शुरू करने का फैसला किया गया है। यह ट्रेन 16 अगस्त की रात 10:15 बजे पुरी से छूटेगी, जो खुर्दा रोड, भुवनेश्वर, मनचेश्वर, अंगुल, संबलपुर, टिटलागढ़ होते शनिवार की दोपहर 2 बजे रायपुर पहुंचेगी।

इसी तरह शिर्डी से पुरी के लिए यह ट्रेन 18 अगस्त को रवाना होगी। यह ट्रेन शिर्डी से हर रविवार को दोपहर 1 बजे छूटेगी, जो कोपरगांव, मनमाड़, भुसावल, अकोला, बदनेरा, वर्धा, नागपुर, गोदिया होते हुए सोमवार की सुबह 7:35 बजे रायपुर पहुंचेगी। ट्रेन में 6 जनरल, 9 स्लीपर, 3 एसी थ्री, 1 एसी टू एवं पेंट्रीकार सहित कुल 22 कोच होंगे।

पुरी तक जाएगी एलटीटी एक्सप्रेस

एलटीटी से भुवनेश्वर के बीच चलने वाली साप्ताहिक एक्सप्रेस का विस्तार किया गया है। यह ट्रेन 11 अगस्त से भुवनेश्वर के बजाय पुरी तक जाएगी। इसी तरह यह ट्रेन हर मंगलवार को पुरी से एलटीटी के लिए रवाना होगी। यह ट्रेन व्हाया रायपुर चलती है, लिहाजा रायपुर के लोगों को पुरी के लिए एक और ट्रेन मिल गई।

PUNE: The Pune railway division has initiated a special drive against illegal travelling. During June and July the division booked as many as 1,418 people for various offences such as ticket less travelling, invalid tickets and unbooked luggage. The administration has said that action will continue at all prominent stations in the division in coming days. The action was initiated jointly by the railway officials and the staff of railway protection force (RPF). The officials took action on the platforms as well as in the long distance trains passing through Pune division and local trains that run between Pune-Lonavla and Pune-Talegaon. Offenders were given strict warnings to travel with legal tickets. The officials said that most offenders were caught on the Pune station, Shivajinagar and Miraj. As many as 584 people were booked in June and 834 booked in July. A total fine of Rs. 3.60 lakh was imposed in the cases. The railway administration said that additional ticket windows have been started at prominent stations. The administration was also in the process of appointing ticket agents by opening additional ticket counters near the stations under the Jansadharan Ticket Booking Sevak scheme. About 10 JTBS are being made operational in Pune, most are located in nearby Pune station area, said officials.

GUWAHATI  – Displaying perfect teamwork, defending champions NF Railway Sports Club trounced Food Corporation of India (FCI) Sports Club 4-0 in today’s match of the Abhishek Motors GSA Super Division Football League for the RG Baruah Trophy at the Nehru Stadium here.The FCI boys were totally outplayed in all departments and virtually danced to the tunes of the well-combined Railway players. The defenders in particular were toothless and they could not prevent the nimble-footed Railway frontliners from entering their territory. FCI defender, Sachin Basumatary, who was in sound form in the previous match, was totally off-colour today and as a result, the whole defence line could not match the opponent’s striking force.The Railway boys, who were not in their best form in the last encounter against Navajyoti, bounced back and forged ahead in the 22nd minute through Sibra Narzary. Sibra got the ball when FCI custodian Govinda Boro could not grip it off a set piece taken by Shashanka Chanda and gently pushed home (1-0).

Leading 1-0 at the breather, the NFR players romped into attack mode with a series of moves using both the flanks. Veteran Duleswar Rabha enhanced the margin in the 54th minute capitalising on a pass from Shashanka (2-0).

After the second goal it became a totally one-sided affair and Sibra scored two more goals outwitting the FCI defence. Churchgate-Virar, Railways changes track to attract Investors for Rs 22,500 Crore Project

New Delhi: The Indian Railways has finally dropped its fixation for broad gauge tracks to attract more bidders for the 63-km Mumbai suburban rail project. It has decided to adopt standard gauge tracks for the project between Churchgate and Virar, to be undertaken at an estimated cost of Rs.22,500 Crore.

The Mumbai suburban rail project is one of the projects flagged by the Prime Minister’s Office for award within the next six months.

Gauge is the width between tracks. Standard gauge tracks are marginally less wide than broad gauge ones. The Railway network is based on broad gauge.

Adoption of standard gauge will increase the pool of coach suppliers, as globally more coach suppliers are available for standard gauge tracks.

To make the public-private partnership project more attractive, the Railways said bidders could ask for viability gap funding (VGF) of more than 20 per cent of the project cost to build and operate it.

However, in case bidders demand more than 20 per cent of VGF, the decision to award the project with more grant would be taken by the Finance Ministry. It also changed the route alignment to ensure minimum land acquisition, and a mix of over and underground network.

Also, the Railways has now offered 12 land parcels instead of the earlier eight and has approval from the Maharashtra Government for more floor space index . This means more real estate development by bidders on the same patch of land.

Having taken steps to make the project more attractive, the Indian Railways has decided to invite fresh bids for the qualification proposal. However, the Railways still has to sign a support agreement with the Maharashtra Government and is yet to take a call on the duration of the concession. “Whether the project will be given out for 50-60 years or 90 years will have to be decided through inter-Ministerial consultations,” said a Rail Ministry source.

Earlier, six players had evinced interest in the project — Larsen & Toubro, IL&FS, Spanish firm CAF, Gammon, Reliance Infra and GMR. Most of these firms already have high debts.

MANGALORE: In connection with yard remodeling (stage-II) as part of Gauge Conversion work between Pollachi-Podanur Pre-Non Interlocking/Non Interlocking work will be undertaken in different spells at Podanur Junction from August 10 to August 26. As a result, train services will be regulated and a number of mail/express, passenger trains as well as local trains will be cancelled, short terminated and diverted.

Train No 16107/16108 Chennai Egmore - Mangalore - Chennai Egmore express will be partially cancelled between Coimbatore - Mangalore from August 20 to 25.
