GUWAHATI – Displaying perfect teamwork, defending champions NF Railway Sports Club trounced Food Corporation of India (FCI) Sports Club 4-0 in today’s match of the Abhishek Motors GSA Super Division Football League for the RG Baruah Trophy at the Nehru Stadium here. The FCI boys were totally outplayed in all departments and virtually danced to the tunes of the well-combined Railway players. The defenders in particular were toothless and they could not prevent the nimble-footed Railway frontliners from entering their territory. FCI defender, Sachin Basumatary, who was in sound form in the previous match, was totally off-colour today and as a result, the whole defence line could not match the opponent’s striking force. The Railway boys, who were not in their best form in the last encounter against Navajyoti, bounced back and forged ahead in the 22nd minute through Sibra Narzary. Sibra got the ball when FCI custodian Govinda Boro could not grip it off a set piece taken by Shashanka Chanda and gently pushed home (1-0). |

CHENNAI: Passengers arriving at Chennai central continue to suffer as the stalemate over relocation of the prepaid autorickshaw stand continues. Autorickshaw drivers at the stand met station manager S Govindaswamy who is learnt to have said that the matter was to be resolved with railway police and traffic police. The drivers had met police on Thursday but the meeting ended without a result.Chennai metro rail, which displaced the prepaid auto stand and put up a barricade on EVRSalai (Poonamallee High Road) 16 days ago, have not offered an alternative space. More than 20 women drivers, all of them widows, continue to be jobless due to the standoff. Passengers arriving at Central are forced to walk with their luggage to the main road where auto drivers charge exorbitant fares for short distances. Southern Railway appears to have washed its hands off the issue. "Every agency is passing the buck. I have two daughters who are in college and this is my only profession. For the last several days I have been jobless," said K Senthil, an auto driver. |

|
New Delhi: The CAG has pulled up Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for relaxing payment conditions for Rs 448 crore owed by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) in lieu of construction work carried out on Airport Metro Line. In its report, the auditor said that when the Airport Metro link was envisaged it was agreed that DIAL would pay upfront Rs 350 crore for civil work for the line inside the airport. An Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) had approved this plan, the report said. DIAL then asked DMRC to build a station near National Highway-8 to serve its commercial areas for which it promised an additional Rs 98 crore to be paid in advance. Commercial rights of NH-8 and airport metro stations were given to DIAL. The CAG observed that DMRC relaxed the terms and allowed DIAL to pay the amount in four instalments, which was in contravention of the government's approval for the payment of construction costs upfront. The report said that DMRC had eased the conditions on a request by secretary of the civil aviation. |

NEW DELHI: In a bid to avoid any "conflict of interest" when the DMRC board looks at the role of eight serving and former officials of Delhi Metro, including its managing director Mangu Singh in the Airport Metro line mess, the urban development ministry wants Singh and other functional directors to recuse themselves from the meeting. Out of the 16 members in the board, Delhi Metro has seven representatives, including its MD. A source said that as the meeting with this special agenda will discuss the role of Metro officials, none of its representatives should be present. He added that their presence would raise questions on the impartiality of the decision. As per the advice of Central Vigilance Commission, the ministry has asked the board to consider the finding of the ministry's probe panel. The panel had named eight functionaries responsible and found deficiencies on the part of the concessionaire, construction contractors (IJM-IJMI JV), consultants (PCI-PBI-JARTS-TONICHI-RITES) and the detailed design consultants (Systra). |
