Demanding a separate Koshal state comprising western Odisha districts, activists under the banner of Koshal Kranti Dal (KKD) today staged a rail roko agitation here.

As a result, express, passenger and goods trains remained stranded at various railway stations, official sources said.

"We have already requested the state and Union government to take immediate steps for formation of Koshal state," KKD president Upendra Mohapatra said.

Bhubaneswar-Bolangir Intercity Express and a goods train were detained at Sambalpur Road station for some time by activists along with students here.

Howrah-Jagadalpur Express was stranded for some time at Bargarh as slogan shouting agitationists squatted on the railway tracks.

Similar demonstrations were staged at Bolangir and Jharsuguda railway station affecting the traffic.

"The rail roko agitation was successful and people from all walks of life spontaneously participated in it," said KKD president.

Earlier on Saturday, rasta roko agitation was held in 10 districts on national highways and state highways linking Western Odisha, said Mohapatra.

बिलासपुर। पुरी या फिर शिरडी जाने वालों को एक और साप्ताहिक ट्रेन की सुविधा रायपुर से मिलेगी। इस बजट में घोषित पुरी-शिरडी साप्ताहिक एक्सप्रेस 16 अगस्त से पटरी पर आएगी।

रेल प्रशासन ने ट्रेन को शुरू करने की तैयारी कर ली है। ट्रेन पेंट्रीकार सहित 22 कोच के साथ चलेगी। वर्ष 2013-14 के रेल बजट में पुरी से शिरडी के लिए एक साप्ताहिक ट्रेन की घोषणा हुई थी। इस ट्रेन को 16 अगस्त से शुरू करने का फैसला किया गया है। यह ट्रेन 16 अगस्त की रात 10:15 बजे पुरी से छूटेगी, जो खुर्दा रोड, भुवनेश्वर, मनचेश्वर, अंगुल, संबलपुर, टिटलागढ़ होते शनिवार की दोपहर 2 बजे रायपुर पहुंचेगी।

इसी तरह शिर्डी से पुरी के लिए यह ट्रेन 18 अगस्त को रवाना होगी। यह ट्रेन शिर्डी से हर रविवार को दोपहर 1 बजे छूटेगी, जो कोपरगांव, मनमाड़, भुसावल, अकोला, बदनेरा, वर्धा, नागपुर, गोदिया होते हुए सोमवार की सुबह 7:35 बजे रायपुर पहुंचेगी। ट्रेन में 6 जनरल, 9 स्लीपर, 3 एसी थ्री, 1 एसी टू एवं पेंट्रीकार सहित कुल 22 कोच होंगे।

पुरी तक जाएगी एलटीटी एक्सप्रेस

एलटीटी से भुवनेश्वर के बीच चलने वाली साप्ताहिक एक्सप्रेस का विस्तार किया गया है। यह ट्रेन 11 अगस्त से भुवनेश्वर के बजाय पुरी तक जाएगी। इसी तरह यह ट्रेन हर मंगलवार को पुरी से एलटीटी के लिए रवाना होगी। यह ट्रेन व्हाया रायपुर चलती है, लिहाजा रायपुर के लोगों को पुरी के लिए एक और ट्रेन मिल गई।

GUWAHATI  – Displaying perfect teamwork, defending champions NF Railway Sports Club trounced Food Corporation of India (FCI) Sports Club 4-0 in today’s match of the Abhishek Motors GSA Super Division Football League for the RG Baruah Trophy at the Nehru Stadium here.The FCI boys were totally outplayed in all departments and virtually danced to the tunes of the well-combined Railway players. FCI defender, Sachin Basumatary, who was in sound form in the previous match, was totally off-colour today and as a result, the whole defence line could not match the opponent’s striking force.The Railway boys, who were not in their best form in the last encounter against Navajyoti, bounced back and forged ahead in the 22nd minute through Sibra Narzary. Sibra got the ball when FCI custodian Govinda Boro could not grip it off a set piece taken by Shashanka Chanda and gently pushed home (1-0).

Leading 1-0 at the breather, the NFR players romped into attack mode with a series of moves using both the flanks. Veteran Duleswar Rabha enhanced the margin in the 54th minute capitalising on a pass from Shashanka (2-0).

After the second goal it became a totally one-sided affair and Sibra scored two more goals outwitting the FCI defence. Mallikarjun Kharge will flag off the inaugural special of the Bangalore city-Marikuppam-Bangalore passenger train at 11.30 a.m. at Marikuppam railway station in Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) on Saturday.K.H. Muniyappa, Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, will be the chief guest. Minister for Health and Family Welfare and district in-charge U.T. Khader and legislators will participate, a release from the Indian Railways said.Train No. 66519 /66520 Bangalore city-Marikuppam-Bangalore city passenger will run six days a week. The train will have no service on Saturdays from Bangalore and on Sundays from Marikupppam.The inaugural special from Marikuppam to Bangalore city will run with open timings and existing halts of Train no. 66519 Marikuppam-Bangalore city passenger.The regular services of Train no. 66520 will start from Bangalore on Sunday (11 August, 2013) and that of Train no. 66519 starts from Marikuppam on Monday (12 August, 2013).

The Churchgate-Virar Elevated Corridor hit a major hurdle again on Wednesday as the Railways ministry withdrew its Request For Qualification (RFQ) documents. The ministry also notified that a fresh RFQ process documents would have to be undertaken to carry forward the much-coveted rail project.

According to experts, after the bidding debacle of Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL), where the project did not manage to get a single bid, this might be the next city infrastructure project that will end up stuck in endless limbo.

As per fresh documents posted on the Railway Board’s website, the Schedule of Bidding Process has changed now and the last date for receiving queries has been fixed as August 16 with authority response to the queries to be completed by September 2. The sale of bidding documents would start on October 11 and first pre-bid meeting has been scheduled for November 8, while second pre-bid meeting will take place on December 31.

Experts feel that this might have happened because the rail ministry could not resolve the issues related to resettlement, rehabilitation and land acquisition with the state government. The Railway and the government have already failed to sign the State Support Agreement (SSA). “If the SSA was signed, then it would be the state’s commitment to help Railways in land acquisition, shifting utility services on time, attaining more FSI to help generate funds and waive charges that would be levied for bringing in equipment to the city,” said an officer from Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation, adding, “No consensus could be achieved between the ministry and the state government regarding the execution of the SSA and this is a major factor as to why the rail ministry had to issue fresh RFQ.”

However, a senior official from a company considered a front-runner for the contract, said, “Lukewarm response from the industry in the bidding process might have forced the rail ministry to take a step back, and now the cost of the project may further escalate.”

However, a senior official from WR denied that this was due to the Railways’ slow approach and said, “Fresh qualifications have been issued just to push forward the project in better and viable way and to restructure the financial model of the project.”

New transcripts on the Railway bribery scandal have revealed that then Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal could have promised Mahesh Kumar that he would be made Railway Board Member Staff.CNN-IBN reported that telephone conversations show two middlemen talking about Bansal and Kumar in connection with the cash-for-railway posts scandal.Previously accessed transcripts raised questions about Bansal’s role in the scam as the key players allegedly met in his official residence and also called on his land line to fix the appointment.The conversations also expose how middlemen had devised a foolproof plan to convert black money to white. Bansal’s name crops up several times between middlemen Rahul Yadav and Manjunath, reported CNN-IBN.Bansal was forced to resign from the post of Railway Minister after his nephew Vijay Singla was caught with Rs 1 crore in cash. The money was meant to fix the appointment of Kumar. A bribe of Rs 10 crore was allegedly given to Singla, the report said.

Bansal was, however, given a clean chit by the CBI in the case and also named a prosecution witness. CBI sources had said they have concluded this case and did not find “prosecutable evidence” against Bansal.

The conversation between Mahesh Kumar and Manjunath’s close associate Rahul Yadav gives away the fact Bansal was in the know of the deal to make Mahesh Kumar Member Electrical.

Rahul Yadav is not convinced, but Manjunath continues to maintain his stand that the assurance of the position has come right from the very top.

Rahul Yadav: There is no loophole na sir?

Manjunath: No no, see I have met Mahesh Kumar himself…to check it out.

Rahul Yadav: Yeah, so okay?

Manjunath: And he has also confirmed, yes the minister spoke to him, directly, okay, now there is no ambiguity.

Now with the deal struck, the middlemen are heard figuring out how to arrange the cash to pay the bribe.

Manjunath: After June 15 only, we will be giving balance amount okay?

Rahul Yadav: Okay.

Manjunath: For that Rs 2 crore is coming from Mumbai, you know?

Rahul Yadav: Haan.

Manjunath: It is arranged boss, see tomorrow Rs 1 crore only I am doing, out of that Murli is giving 25, actually. Okay and I was planning to take 25 from this Manoj, okay 50 from my side, okay that was planned.

The worry of handling so much cash is not a problem as in their discussions, the conspiracy runs so deep that they have already figured out how to subvert the black money to evade any suspicion.

Rahul Yadav: Last time also, when some money was required in Delhi from GG Tronics, I asked Venu to transfer the money to one of Samir’s jeweller friends okay?

Manjunath: Okay.

Rahul Yadav: They have some expenses there, but the entry is clear, you know, they take 1 per cent VAT and 0.5 per cent expenses, total 1.5 per cent is spent, but the entry is clear and closed, he will give up cash immediately and he will give us a bill of gold also, okay?

Manjunath: Okay.

Rahul Yadav: That (bill) you can always keep and whenever you want, you can sell that back to him, whenever you want your money back na, white money back, so you can sell the same go back to him.

Economic Times reported that in order to have more participation of global players, Railways has invited fresh bids for the Mumbai elevated rail corridor project.The new request for qualification document for the 60 km long elevated rail corridor between Churchgate and Virar has been issued with significant changes in terms and conditions.The project cost has been estimated at INR 21,500 crore, an increase of INR 500 crore from the earlier one.A senior Railway Ministry official involved with the project said that "We have replaced the earlier RFQ document with a new one and the last date of submission is September 2nd.”The official said that earlier the elevated corridor was supposed to be a broad gauge line but now it has been decided for the standard gauge.He said that "So those players who could not participate in the bidding earlier can now participate the aim of the new RFQ documents is to attract more global players in the changed circumstances.”There are total 6 bidders, including Reliance Infrastructure, Gammon, L&T, ILFS and GMR, who had already submitted the proposals as per the earlier document.Though these 6 players have to again submit the proposals with new documents, they will be exempted from paying the mandatory INR 10 lakh fee as the cost of the form.Railways will be signing an agreement with Maharashtra government shortly for execution of the project.Prime Minister Mr Manmohan Singh in its recent review meeting of flagship infrastructure projects has asked the Railways to expedite the elevated corridor project.

The Mamata Banerjee government on Thursday set a schedule for the relocation of settlers from the East-West Metro route in Salt Lake’s Duttabad at a meeting called by urban development minister Firhad Hakim.
At the meeting, Hakim told officials of Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC), the implementing agency for the project connecting Salt Lake Sector V to Howrah Maidan, that a survey to ascertain the number of encroachers would start on August 23.
KMRC officials said the presence of the minister, who has emerged as Mamata’s pointman on several key issues, such as the roll-out of the Reliance’s 4G service in the city, suggested a change of stand of the state government, which had earlier refused to help sort out the tangle.
“We have assured KMRC officials that there will be no more hindrance to completing the Duttabad stretch. The state government will extend all cooperation in shifting the encroachers,” Hakim said after the meeting.
The urban development department also allotted two plots with a total area of more than an acre to rehabilitate the encroachers.
The Rs 4,875-crore project is hit by land problem at various points on the 14.7km stretch, including Duttabad.
Gammon India has pulled out of the Duttabad stretch after waiting four years for the government to remove encroachments from a 365-metre stretch where 13 piers were to be built to support the elevated tracks. The company has demanded Rs 19 crore in compensation for losses suffered because of the government’s failure to relocate the families, who have refused to move out.
In March, a survey to identify the Duttabad families to be relocated had to be abandoned after Trinamul supporters, led by an MLA, drove away KMRC and government officials.
Sources, however, said things started looking up after Hakim took the initiative to remove the hurdles following orders from the chief minister.
The KMRC will initially build temporary structures for the encroachers on one of the two plots the urban development department had allotted. Later, permanent houses will be built forthe families on the second plot.
“The state government’s approach looks positive and we hope to complete the construction of the Duttabad stretch within two years. The first phase from Salt Lake to Sealdah should be complete by the end of 2015,” said Hemant Kumar Sharma, the managing director of the KMRC.
He said a tender was floated on Wednesday for the construction of temporary houses for the encroachers.
“We had earlier floated a tender but had to cancel it because there was little chance of the encroachers being shifted,” said Sharma.
The KMRC also extended the tenure of the tender to hire a contractor for laying the tracks at Duttabad. The tender had to be floated after Gammon had withdrawn from the project. Gammon’s departure seemed to have scared off prospective contractors. In June there was only one bidder for the tender, forcing the KMRC to extend it till July.
“Now we have one more bidder and has extended it till August. Wehope that more bidders will express interest for the project,” said Sharma.
The KMRC has prepared an alternative alignment with an increased span that will affect fewer settlers, sources said. The altered blueprint has seven piers instead of the originally planned 13, increasing the distance between every pair from 25 to 90 metres.
However, the KMRC’s problems in the second phase between Sealdah and Howrah Maidan continue. The state government is yet to act on a Calcutta High Court order to remove 90 families from Bowbazar where the Central station will come up.
Litigation and red tape have forced Afcons, the infrastructure arm of Shapoorji Pallonji, to seek Rs 257 crore in compensation for not being able to start work on the Central station-Howrah Maidan stretch in three years.
