The Tamil Nadu Railway Police (TNRP) has completed the investigation into the crashing of a barge into the 100-year-old Pamban rail bridge in January and is all set to file the charge sheet against the five accused, including the Captain of the barge and the then Pamban port conservator, in the case. India’s first cantilever bridge across the Palk Strait, connecting the mainland with the Rameswaram Island, suffered damage after the barge, owned by Kolkotta-based Titagarh Marine crashed into the bridge after anchor failure. After the TNRP registered a FIR, C.Vellaiyan, Deputy Superintendent of Police, TNRP, Madurai Division took up the investigation and completed it recently, holding the Captain of the vessel responsible for the mishap and decided to include the then Pamban port conservator as one of the five accused in the charge sheet. Investigations revealed that there has been slackness on the part of the Captain and the crew leading to the mishap, Mr. Vellaiyan said adding the then Pamban port conservator ( was equally responsible for the mishap.

प्रतिनिधिमंडल महाप्रबंधक से मिला
रेल रोको आंदोलन संघर्ष समिति का एक प्रतिनिधिमंडल संयोजक विपिन बिहारी व अध्यक्ष नीरज गुप्ता की अगुवाई में हाजीपुर जोन के महाप्रबंधक मधुरेश कुमार से मिला। दुद्धी नगर रेलवे स्टेशन पर रांची-चोपन इंटरसिटी,स्वर्ण जंयती, हावड़ा भोपाल समेत इस रूट पर चल रहे अन्य एक्सप्रेस ट्रेनों के ठहराव,स्टेशन को कम्प्यूटरीकृत आरक्षण की व्यवस्था समेत आठ सूत्रीय मांग पत्र का ज्ञापन सौंपा। इसके पूर्व वरिष्ठ अधिवक्ता दिनेश अग्रहरि ने महाप्रबंधक व उप महाप्रबंधक समेत रेलवे के अन्य उपस्थित शीर्ष अधिकारियों को दुद्धी तहसील मुख्यालय के भौगोलिक स्थिति के बाबत विस्तार पूर्वक जानकारी देते हुए रेल संबधित समस्याओं से अवगत कराया। प्रतिनिधिमंडल ने उन्हें बताया कि मांगों के समर्थन में सर्वदलीय मंच के बैनर तले आगामी चार सिंतबर को आंदोलन की तैयारी पूरे शबाब पर है। प्रतिनिधिमंडल की बातों को गंभीरता पूर्वक सुनने के बाद महाप्रबंधक ने उन्हे आश्वस्त किया कि मांग पत्र में उनके स्तर की मांगों पर विचार कर एक दो दिन के अंदर निर्णय ले लिया जाएगा। जबकि मंत्रालय स्तर के मांगों के बाबत कहा कि संस्तुति के साथ उसे विशेष रुप से भेजे जाने की बात कही। प्रतिनिधिमंडल में व्यापार मंडल के अध्यक्ष अछैबर नाथ गुप्ता, दुद्धी बार एसोसिएशन के पूर्व अध्यक्ष जितेंद्र कुमार श्रीवास्तव, विष्णुकांत तिवारी समेत कई लोग शामिल थे।

As announced in the Railway budget, Southern Railway will extend the Tiruchi-Mangalore Express up to Puducherry. The date from which the express train will be operated till Puducherry will be announced soon, said Rakesh Misra, General Manager, Southern Railway.After inspecting infrastructure in Puducherry railway station, Mr. Misra told reporters that they were working to arrive at the date for extending the train as early as possible.Similarly, the railways would soon introduce an express train to Tirupati from Puducherry in addition to the existing passenger train, he said.The Southern Railway has decided to set up a godown at CP Chamudram in Villupuram district but this site should be acceptable to both Puducherry and Tamil Nadu governments, he said, indicating the need for inter-governmental cooperation to speed up railway projects. Mr. Misra said that there was a need for a third platform in Puducherry to cater to the needs of increasing number of trains and officials have been asked to prepare a proposal.The reduced allocation of fund to the Southern Railway has affected many ongoing projects. The allocation, which stood at about Rs.1,100 crore about three years ago, was reduced to Rs. 550 crore this year. Manjula Rangarajan, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, accompanied him in the inspection.

Southern Railway will temporarily cancel the following passenger trains on Saturdays and Sundays for a period of three months from August 31 to December 1 to facilitate periodical maintenance of track and bridges over Madurai division for safe running of trains:

The Rockfort and Pallavan Express Trains Retrieval Committee has decided to observe fast on September 1 here to condemn the railways’ decision to extend the Pallavan Express to Karaikudi “against the wishes of people of Tiruchi.”The proposed fast is the first phase of the continued struggle planned to be taken up by the committee in due course of time to urge the railways to operate the superfast express train from Tiruchi.A few days ago, the railways announced that the Pallavan Express would be extended to Karaikudi from September 1.The committee, which met here on Friday, decided to observe a day-long fast on September 1 near the Khadi Kraft with support from all political parties and other organisations.

BAHRAICH: Ghaghra is flowing 87 centimetres above the danger mark at Elgin Bridge on Friday. The river submerged 20 metres of the railway track near Adampur-Rewali dam on Thursday night. The villagers have been asked to vacate the area.

Chief engineer, Saryu Canal, PC Mishra and other officials reached the spot. Orders were issued to remove the villagers of the area to safer places. The engineers vainly tried to save the guide spur but about 20 metres of the track was submerged late at night which created the danger on Lucknow-Gonda railway line and Bahraich-Lucknow highway. On Friday morning, efforts to divert the water current by putting boulders also went in vain. Later the initiative to start the construction of ring dam at a distance of about 100 meters was started and four Pokland machines have been engaged in the construction. Over 50,000 population of Mehsi and Kaiserganj tehsils are affected with the flood in Ghaghra.

RAJKOT: Railway authorities have decided to extend Morbi-Wankaner diesel multiple unit (DEMU) train service to Rajkot. The inaugural run of the extended train will be flagged off on September 2 at 12.30 pm.

Railway officials said the train will leave Rajkot from September 3 onwards at 7 am and reach Morbi at 9.10am via Wankaner city. On its return journey, the DEMU train will leave Morbi at 5.55 pm and reach Rajkot at 8.05 pm.

Divisional railway manager for Rajkot division Vinay Babtiwale said the train will comprise three general coaches and it will be first train to connect Rajkot and Morbi directly.

He said the train will halt at Bileshwar, Khorana, Kanakot, Sindhavadar, Amarsar, Wankaner City, Dhuva, Makanser, Rafaleshwar and Nazarbag in both directions.

Railway officials said the fare from Rajkot to Morbi will be Rs 15.

Ahmedabad: Metro Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA), a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) floated by the Gujarat government to execute metro rail project here, has achieved financial closure for the first phase of the project, a top official said.

“A consortium of leading public sector banks led by Punjab National Bank has sanctioned Rs.4,700 crore, out of which Rs.3,100 crore has been allocated for Phase IA, Line 2,” Executive Chairman of MEGA Sanjay Gupta said.

“We have achieved an important milestone, of financial closure, for providing one of the most modern mass transit systems in the world to the people of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. We will now focus on the speedy implementation of the project so that people can avail of world class services from August 2017,” he said in a press statement issued today.

Giving further details on the financial aspect of phase I, he said, “Banks have decided to form a consortium and selected Punjab National Bank as the lead bank. Equity component for Phase IA, expected to be around Rs.4,292 crore, would be infused primarily by the state and central governments.”

The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 21,000 crore, while the first phase is expected to cost around Rs.10,000 crore.

Leading banks which will be associated with the project beside Punjab National Bank, include Punjab and Sind Bank, Union Bank, Vijaya Bank, Corporation bank, Allahabad Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, UCO Bank, United Bank and Syndicate Bank.

MEGA is a state-formed SPV with authorised capital of Rs.200 crore and initial paid-up capital of Rs.10 Crore. The company recently bagged ISO 9001-2008 certification for planning, design and construction of metro rail project.
