As announced in the Railway budget, Southern Railway will extend the Tiruchi-Mangalore Express up to Puducherry. The date from which the express train will be operated till Puducherry will be announced soon, said Rakesh Misra, General Manager, Southern Railway.After inspecting infrastructure in Puducherry railway station, Mr. Misra told reporters that they were working to arrive at the date for extending the train as early as possible.Similarly, the railways would soon introduce an express train to Tirupati from Puducherry in addition to the existing passenger train, he said.The Southern Railway has decided to set up a godown at CP Chamudram in Villupuram district but this site should be acceptable to both Puducherry and Tamil Nadu governments, he said, indicating the need for inter-governmental cooperation to speed up railway projects. Mr. Misra said that there was a need for a third platform in Puducherry to cater to the needs of increasing number of trains and officials have been asked to prepare a proposal.The reduced allocation of fund to the Southern Railway has affected many ongoing projects. The allocation, which stood at about Rs.1,100 crore about three years ago, was reduced to Rs. 550 crore this year. Manjula Rangarajan, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, accompanied him in the inspection.

Southern Railway will temporarily cancel the following passenger trains on Saturdays and Sundays for a period of three months from August 31 to December 1 to facilitate periodical maintenance of track and bridges over Madurai division for safe running of trains:

Cancelled on Saturdays: Train No. 76831 Tiruchi-Karaikudi passenger. Cancelled on Sundays: Train No. 56703 Tiruchi-Dindigul passenger, Train No. 56704 Dindigul-Tiruchi passenger, Train No. 56707 Dindigul-Madurai passenger, Train No. 56708 Madurai-Dindigul passenger, Train No. 56774 Dindigul-Palani passenger, Train No. 56773 Palani-Dindigul passenger, Train No. 56798 Sengottah-Tirunelveli passenger, Train No. 56799 Tirunelveli-Sengottah passenger, Train No. 56828 Tirunelveli-Tuticorin passenger and Train No. 56827 Tuticorin-Tirunelveli passenger. Other trains are Train No. 56763 Tirunelveli-Tiruchendur passenger, Train No. 56766 Tiruchendur-Tirunelveli passenger, Train No. 76807 Tiruchi-Manamadurai passenger, Train No. 76808 Manamadurai-Tiruchi passenger, Train No. 76830 Karaikudi-Tiruchi passenger, Train No. 56803 Tirunelveli-Sengottah passenger, Train No. 56802 Sengottah-Tirunelveli passenger.

उत्तर- पश्चिम रेलवे के मंडल रेल प्रबंधक ((डीआरएम)) वीरेंद्र कुमार ने शुक्रवार को आला हजरत एक्सप्रेस ट्रेन से जयपुर- रेवाड़ी ट्रैक का विंडो निरीक्षण किया। इस दौरान उनके साथ सीनियर डीसीएम रत्नेश झा, सीनियर डीओएम गौरव गौड़ सहित अन्य अधिकारी थे। रेवाड़ी जाते समय डीआरएम वीरेंद्र कुमार ने बताया कि ट्रेन की छत पर बैठकर अनधिकृत रूप से यात्रा करने वालों के खिलाफ सख्त कार्रवाई की जाएगी। हालांकि चैकिंग अभियान भी चलाया जाता है। जिसके तहत छत पर बैठने वाले यात्रियों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई की जाती है। उन्होंने कहा कि स्टेशन पर यात्री सुविधा में और विस्तार किया जाएगा।

GUWAHATI, Aug 30 – The Railway authorities detected 469 cases of passengers travelling without tickets or with irregular tickets and realised fares and fines to the tune of over Rs 3.80 lakh on a single day during surprise checks conducted in trains under the Rangia Railway Division.
An NFR official said the checking was conducted on August 28 by Chief Travelling Ticket Inspectors, along with ticket collectors and RPF personnel. A total of 293 ticketless passengers were caught from various local and long-distance trains and fares worth Rs 2,10,515 and penalty of Rs 73,250 were realised from them. Besides, 174 persons travelling with ‘irregular’ tickets were also identified and a total fare of Rs 52,715 and penalty of Rs 43,500 were collected from them.

Two cases of unbooked luggage were noticed during the drives, yielding a penalty of Rs 300. The official said that such surprise checks would continue at the Rangia division.

Due to line block/power block to facilitate engineering works in Chennai Central – Gudur section, several trains have been partially cancelled on Saturday.Train No.57239 Chennai Central – Gudur passenger and Train No.57240 Bitragunta – Chennai Central passenger trains will be partially cancelled between Gummidipundi and Chennai Central.

Fully cancelled EMU services are Train No.66026 Sullurupetta - MMC EMU scheduled to leave Sullurupetta at noon and Train No.66027 MMC – Sullurupetta MMC EMU scheduled to leave MMC at 1.40 p.m.

Besides, two EMUs partially cancelled between Ennore and Sullurpetta and ten EMU services partially cancelled between Ennore and Gummidipoondi.Also, for a period of 31 days except Tuesdays, Train No.42423 Mooremarket Complex (MMC) – Sullurupetta EMU local scheduled to leave MMC at 8.35 p.m. will be partially cancelled between Elavur – Sullurupetta and Train No.42452 Sullurupetta – Gummidipundi EMU local scheduled to leave Sullurupetta at 10.50 p.m. will be partially cancelled between Sullurupetta - Elavur.

ALLAHABAD: The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Friday claimed to have busted a human trafficking racket with the arrested of seven women from platform number 6 of Allahabad railway junction.The arrests were made when all the seven women had arrived at Allahabad railway junction from Mumbai Mail. The arrested women were identified as Reena of Dhanbad and Samina of Nasik besides Sita Bhandari, Samina Sheikh, Rizwana Sheikh, Sabeena Sheikh and Tamanna Sayeed from Mumbai. All these women had come to the city from Mumbai and were on their way to Kolkata. GRP officials said the kingpin of the racket, Sita Bhandari was taking these women to work in Kolkata's dance bars. The police became suspicious of the nature of the women's work when they found the latter indulging in obscene acts. Passengers traveling in Mumbai Mail too complained to GRP authorities about the behaviour of the women and asked them to take the women out of the compartment. The police subsequently interrogated and detained the women. A case under sections 294 and 504 of IPC has been registered in this connection.

While they are summoned the maximum number of times to defuse bombs, be it on platforms or railway compartments, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) are reluctant to use bomb suits.

The issue has once again come to the surface after the death of a state bomb squad personnel at Alipurduar on Thursday.

In 2006, an officer of the CID’s bomb disposal squad died when he tried to defuse explosives without taking precautionary measures at Jhitka near Lalgarh.

Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, barring those in Howrah, do not use bomb suits, which is mandatory for defusing explosives.

“Bomb suit is a must for defusing explosives. Asansol, Burdwan, Sealdah and Malda division bomb disposal squad personnel do not use protective gear. Bomb suits are lying unused,” said a senior officer of RPF, working in Howrah.

“We use it where it is available and over phone I can’t share this sensitive information,” said D. Mohan, the inspector general of RPF.

From 2010 to 2013 August, railway security personnel have defused 13 explosives.

The last case was at Ajimgunj in Murshidabad where 25 detonators and five gelatine sticks were defused.

“The explosives which we encounter are timer device, detonator, ammonium nitrate fuel oil (ANFO), crude and socket bombs. In order to defuse such explosives de-armour disruptor and real time viewing system (RTVS) equipment are important. But till date we have not been given these. So we have to defuse explosives taking a risk,” said the RPF officer.

The function of RTVS is to scan the circuits used in the explosive.

Even if the explosive is kept inside a bag, with the help of this equipment it can be checked from outside. After checks with the help of de-armour disruptor machine, a controlled blast can be carried out from 200 metres away with the help of a remote control system.

Not only bomb suits, costly equipment like telescopic manipulators, bomb baskets and bomb blankets are lying unused except those kept in Howrah.

“We lack experienced personnel who can use the equipment and this is why the gear are lying unused,” said the officer.

HUBLI: To clear the rush of passengers, South Eastern Railway (SER) has decided to run weekly express special trains between Yeshwantpur - Hatia - Yeshwantpur (train nos. 08637/08638) for one trip in each direction on August 31 and September 3.Train number 08637 Hatia - Yeshwantpur will depart at Hatia station at 6.15pm on Sunday, August 31, and arrive at Yeshwantpur at 5am on Monday, September 2.Train number 08638 Yeshwantpur - Hatia will depart at Yeshwantpur station at 12.30am on September 3, Tuesday, and arrive at Hatia at 1.30pm on September 4, Wednesday.

LUCKNOW: Public agitations and disruption of rail traffic due to this causes huge loss of revenue to railways besides public inconvenience. In 2011, Firozpur Division alone had to bear a loss of Rs 2.6 crore approximately due to Jat agitation in Punjab and Jammu Kashmir states only.On Friday, railway has appealed to general public to refrain from agitations as it cause great inconvenience to the rail passengers and huge loss to the railways as well.Due to agitation over Delhi Division on August 25, the 14311 Bareilly-Bhuj Ala Hazrat Express and 12916 Delhi Jn.- Ahmedabad Ashram Express trains suffered detention for 222 minutes, 19566 Dehradun-Okha Uttaranchal Express for 98 minutes, 12986 Delhi Sarai Rohilla- Jaipur Double Decker Express was regulated for 80 minutes, 14369 Singrauli- Bareilly Triveni Express for 65 minutes, 22212 Hazrat Nizamuddin-Ajmer Duronto Express for 170 minutes and 22471 Bikaner-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Intercity was regulated for 135 minutes and a number of passenger trains had to be short terminated or cancelled causing immense inconvenience to rail passengers.Similarly a group of about 40 ex. servicemen gathered near rail track between Butari and Beas stations on Firozpur Division on August 26 to raise their agitation for one rank one pension. As a result, 12029 New Delhi- Amritsar Swarn Shatabdi Express and 14650 Amritsar- Jayanagar Saru Yamuna Express suffered detention which caused great inconvenience to the rail passengers.

High Court has also issued the orders against these kinds of activities leading disruption to rail traffic which do not only cause inconvenience and hardships to the traveling public but also huge loss of revenue to the nation. According to the order, whoever is caught involved in such activities and damaging railway property will be severely punished.
