JAIPUR: To provide seamless connectivity between the Metro and Jaipur's railway station, the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) plans to construct a skywalk.

The proposed walkway will give direct access to Metro commuters to the city's rail platforms. According to the officials, after several discussions, the North Western Railway (NWR) has given nod to the proposal.

JMRC chairman and managing director N C Goel said, "NWR will construct the walkway and the cost will be provided by JMRC. The project has been planned as multi-model transport according to the need of the hour. It would save lots of parking space and passenger time."

He further added, "The proposal will now be examined to seek additional financial assistance from the state government."

राजधानी की जीवनरेखा बनी दिल्ली मेट्रो के साथ ही उसकी सुरक्षा के लिए स्टेशनों पर तैनात केंद्रीय औद्योगिक सुरक्षा बल (सीआईएसएफ) के जवानों की कार्यशैली भी लोगों को भाने लगी है। गत दिनों मेट्रो रेल की ओर से कराए गए सर्वेक्षण में मेट्रो के 97 फीसद यात्रियों ने सुरक्षा व संरक्षा के स्तर पर जवानों के कार्य को संतोषजनक बताया। हालांकि दो फीसद यात्रियों ने इसमें और सुधार की जरूरत पर जोर दिया। इस बारे में दिल्ली मेट्रो की ओर से 3 जुलाई से 21 जुलाई के बीच मेट्रो स्टेशन पर यात्री प्रतिक्रिया सर्वेक्षण करवाया गया था।
इसमें सीआईएसएफ कर्मियों की ओर से प्रदान की गई सुरक्षा का स्तर,उनका व्यवहार व कर्मियों की ओर से तलाशी की समयावधि का मूल्यांकन शामिल था। इसमें 11 सौ यात्रियों की प्रतिक्रिया ली गई थी। सीआईएसएफ प्रवक्ता हेमेंद्र सिंह ने बताया कि दिल्ली मेट्रो में सुरक्षा व संरक्षण में 31 फीसद लोगों ने उत्कृष्ट, 41 फीसद ने बहुत अच्छा और 25 फीसद ने जवानों का कार्य संतोषजनक बताया। वहीं 93 फीसद यात्रियों ने कर्मियों के व्यवहार की सराहना की, जबकि 95 फीसद ने कर्मियों की सर्तकता को सराहा। यही नहीं 89 फीसद यात्रियों ने तलाशी में लगने वाले समय के लिए अपनी संतुष्टि जाहिर की। 10 फीसद लोगों ने तलाशी लेने में लगने वाले समय में और सुधार की इच्छा प्रकट की। 3.2 फीसद दिल्ली वालों ने तलाशी में और सुधार की जरूरत का सुझाव दिया।

Palakkad Divisional Railway Manager Piyush Agarwal on Tuesday ordered an inquiry into the death of a passenger at the Shoranur railway station on Friday, allegedly without getting emergency medical help from the nearby Shoranur Railway Hospital.He directed the Chief Medical Superintendent of the Palakkad Railway Division to conduct an inquiry into the incident and submit the report.The passenger, Ashokan (70) of Ayiloor, near Nemmara here, was coming from Kozhikode to Palakkad by the Calicut-Coimbatore passenger train at 7.45 a.m. on Friday, when he developed chest pain. His co-passengers brought him to the platform and informed the railway police who rushed to the railway hospital to bring a doctor. But none of the two doctors on duty there turned up to examine the passenger who struggled for 45 minutes before his death.A constable on duty at the station said the police went to the railway hospital three times and requested the doctors to accompany them as the passenger was in a critical condition. But both the doctors refused to turn up and the patient died on the platform.The railway hospital authorities also did not provide an ambulance to move the body to the mortuary, it was alleged.

इलाहाबाद (ब्यूरो)। जंक्शन से मुंबई, ग्वालियर और इंदौर के लिए ट्रेन पकड़ने वाले यात्री अलर्ट हो जाएं। इन शहरों के लिए इलाहाबाद जंक्शन से होकर गुजरने वाली महानगरी एक्सप्रेस, चंबल एक्सप्रेस, जनता एक्सप्रेस और क्षिप्रा एक्सप्रेस को नवंबर से छिवकी से चलाने की तैयारी शुरू हो गई है। जल्द ही इनकी तिथि भी घोषित हो जाएगी। जंक्शन से इन ट्रेनों के छिनने से नैनी, छिवकी और यमुनापार वाले यात्रियों और रेलवे प्रशासन के लिए परिचालन की सुविधा मिल जाएगी लेकिन जंक्शन के यात्रियों के लिए बड़ी मुसीबत खड़ी हो सकती है। वजह, चारों ट्रेनें यात्रियों के बीच काफी लोकप्रिय हैं। चारों ट्रेनों को छिवकी से चलाने के लिए रेलवे प्रशासन पिछले डेढ़ वर्षों से प्रयासरत है। रेलवे प्रशासन का दावा है कि जंक्शन से चार ट्रेनों को हटाने से नैनी से इलाहाबाद के बीच में आठ जोड़ी ट्रेनों का भार कम हो जाएगा। यह ट्रेनें मिर्जापुर की ओर से नैनी होते हुए जंक्शन तक आती हैं और गंतव्य स्टेशनों के लिए फिर नैनी तक लौटकर मानिकपुर का रास्ता पकड़ती हैं। परिचालन की इन्हीं दिक्कतों के कारण रेलवे प्रशासन इन ट्रेनों को छिवकी से ही मुंबई, चंबल और ग्वालियर के लिए डाइवर्ट करना चाहता है। इन ट्रेनों के जाने तक छिवकी स्टेशन पर यार्ड रिमाडलिंग और नई सिगनल प्रणाली के कार्य भी पूरे होने की उम्मीद है। रेलवे के आधिकारिक सूत्रों का दावा है कि यार्ड रिमाडलिंग के कार्य में देरी हुई तो भी नवंबर से इन ट्रेनों को छिवकी से डाइवर्ट किया जाएगा। फिलहाल, चारों ट्रेनों में से महानगरी एक्सप्रेस ऐसी ट्रेन है जो इलाहाबाद, प्रतापगढ़, कौशाम्बी और सुल्तानपुर के यात्रियों में काफी लोकप्रिय है। इंदौर के लिए जंक्शन से क्षिप्रा एक्सप्रेस इकलौती ट्रेन है। जंक्शन से हावड़ा जाने वालों में चंबल एक्सप्रेस भी पसंदीदा गाड़ी है। चारों ट्रेनों के छिवकी जाने से जंक्शन के यात्रियों के लिए समस्या खड़ी होनी तय है। दूसरी ओर रेलवे प्रशासन ने छिवकी में यात्री सुविधाओं को बढ़ाने में तेजी दिखाई है। दो नए प्लेटफार्म तैयार हैं। नए फुटओवर ब्रिज का निर्माण भी नवंबर से शुरू होने की उम्मीद है।

Due to maintenance of track works in Salem - Coimbatore Section from September 3 to October 1, Train No.66603 Salem - Coimbatore passenger will be delayed at Erode for 30 minutes on these days. Southern Railway has announced cancellation of the following passenger trains due to operational reasons. The Thanjavur – Kumbakonam passenger (56040) leaving Thanjavur at 6.05 p.m. will not run on Wednesdays up to September 18. Kumbakonam – Thanjavur passenger (56039) leaving Kumbakonam at 8.05 a.m. will not run on Thursdays up to September 18, a Southern Railway press release here said.

Jammu : Three supporters of self-styled godman and rape accused Asaram were detained by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) after they disrupted rail traffic near Balol Nallah on Jammu-Pathankote railway route here this morning.Sources said around 100 supporters and followers of the accused, including women, had blocked the railway track at Balol Nallah in Bari Brahmana.They also raised slogans against the Congress-led UPA government for allegedly framing the accused godman Asaram under a conspiracy.The protestors carried placards and had a minor scuffle with the police when the latter tried to stop them from moving on the railway track.“They assembled near Balol Nallah at 7.45 am and had a minor scuffle with the police after they were stopped. The rail traffic remained disrupted for half-an-hour. The trains affected due to the disruption were Ahmedabad Express from Jammu and Jammu-bound Sealdah Express,” a police officer said.The official also claimed that some supporters and followers, who had boarded the Ahmedabad Express from Jammu, also joined the protestors raising anti-government slogans.After a brief disruption where two trains were delayed, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) swung into action and dispersed the protestors.Meanwhile, many Asaram's supporters continued their hunger strike at Bhagwati Nagar ashram here.They accused the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of implicating the “spiritual guru” in "false case" under a "well-planned conspiracy". They demanded the "spiritual guru" should be immediately released.Sources said that hundreds of supporters and followers of Asaram had already left for Jodhpur to hold protest against the government.

It is celebration time for the people of delta districts, as the railways has conceded to their long-pending demand for a direct night train to Chennai from Thanjavur by introducing the Thanjavur-Chennai Uzhavan Express from September 1. This is the third new train to be introduced in the region in the last three months. On June, the railways introduced the Mannagudi-Coimbatore Chemmozhi Express and Puducherry-Kanyakumari weekly Express via Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Karaikudi, and Virudhunagar last month.

While commuters feel the departure timings of these trains – Uzhavan Express leaving Thanjavur at 8.45 p.m. and reaching Chennai at 4.55 a.m. and the Chemmozhi Express leaving Mannargudi at 8.10 p.m. and reaching Coimbatore at 5 a.m. – are commuter-friendly, the timings on their return direction from Chennai Egmore and Coimbatore respectively are not so . .

Commuters boarding the Uzhavan Express, which leaves Chennai at 11.30 p.m., at Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Tindivanam and Villupuram can do so only in odd hours. The departure timing could be revised to 10 p.m. or earlier so that the train could reach Thanjavur at 6 a.m. This will immensely benefit officer-goers and students, they say.

Similarly the Chemmozhi Express departing at Coimbatore at 11.55 p.m. and reaches Tiruppur at 12.53 a.m., Erode at 1.45 a.m., and Tiruchi at 4.40 a.m. People travelling by this train from Coimbatore to Tiruchi will hardly get a little over four hours sleep.

For people, particularly senior citizens, women and children, of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Tiruchi visiting Tirupur and Erode, the current timing is not travel-friendly, says Rama Sathiyamoorthy, a senior citizen of Tiruchi.

The odd timings might compel them to take a bus, he adds. People of delta districts have lot of connection with Hyderabad. They catch trains to Hyderabad from Chennai. When the railways announced the Madurai-Kacheguda weekly express in the Railway Budget 2012-13, they expected the train to be operated via the main line.

They were in for a big disappointment when the railways introduced the train via Tiruchi, Karur, and Erode.

At present, a daily Chennai Egmore-Kacheguda Express leaves at 5 p.m. The Cholan Express departing from Tiruchi at 9.35 a.m. reaches Chennai Egmore at 5.50 p.m. K.Rajendran, BJP leader of Mayiladuthurai, says that the arrival timing of the Cholan Express at Chennai Egmore should be advanced to 4.30 p.m. to enable those travelling by this train to catch the Kacheguda Express at Egmore. The newly introduced Puducherry-Kanyakumari Express reaches Kanyakumari at 3.15 a.m.

A large number of people of Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Thanjavur travel to Kovilpatti, Tirunelveli and Nagercoil and this train reach these centres in the odd hours. The arrival time of this train at Kanyakumari should be delayed to 6 a.m. Mr.Rajendran has also pleaded for increasing the frequency of the train to thrice a week.

People of the delta districts have also pleaded for steps for advancing the arrival time of the Guruvayur Express at Chennai, so that they could catch the north-bound trains leaving Chennai in the late evening hours and also the departure time of the Guruvayur Express to enable people arriving from north to catch the train for their onward journey.

NEW DELHI: Gyanodaya Express chugged out of Safdarjung railway station on Monday, carrying 900 students on the third such educational trip organized by the Delhi University. This time, it's heading to Punjab. This is the first time, 150 students from Edinburgh and London will be on what DU authorities call the "College on Wheels."

Flagged off by the MoS railways, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the trip will last till September 8. But it's the 'code of conduct' students are expected to adhere to for the duration of the trip that has drawn the most attention. "Students are to strictly adhere to the dress code i.e. girls are not to wear skirts, shorts or spaghetti (sic) and boys are also not to wear shorts and sleeveless T-shirts," it says.

AURANGABAD: The Nanded division of the south central railway on Tuesday conducted a special ticket checking drive and collected a fine of Rs 1.11 lakh from as many as 336 ticketless travellers.

Charles Herenz, divisional commercial manager, Nanded division, said that a team of 60 ticket checking staff, including 25 TTEs and 35 scouts, were assisted by three personnel of the railway police force during the drive. The squad members travelled by bus to different places of the division to check the trains and prosecuted 336 ticketless travelers.

Herenz added that many such drives would be conducted in future so as to deter the ticketless travellers from commuting without appropriate train tickets.
