The ban which was imposed on the central projects in Manipur by the United Naga Council (UNC) in furtherance of its demand for an alternative arrangement outside the Manipur government has been lifted from 5 pm on Wednesday. This was announced by the publicity wing of the UNC in Imphal on Wednesday.For a long time the UNC has been demanding an alternative arrangement for the Nagas in Manipur saying that they no longer want to stay under the "communal government" led by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh.There had been blockade, general strike and other forms of agitations demanding the alternative arrangement.The Union government has been holding talks with the representatives of the UNC and the Manipur government in this regard. The sixth round of talks was held in Delhi on August 30 among the representatives of the Union government, the Manipur government and the UNC. The UNC says that during the talks the representatives of the Union government had urged its representatives to lift the ban on the central projects so as to take the process to the political level within two months.The UNC discussed the proposal in a meeting held on Tuesday. It was decided that the ban would be lifted from Wednesday. The announcement says that the ban on the Trans Asian Railway Line and power grid is lifted appreciating the firm and sincere intention of the Union government to end the stalemate stemming from the UNC demand.However the ban on the "exploitive and divisive" projects which are undertaken without prior consent of the land owners and which have displaced or will displace people will continue. The projects include seismic survey for oil exploration, the Mapithel multipurpose dam, Chakpi Karong multipurpose dam.

Revenue Minister and Mysore district in charge V. Srinivas Prasad on Tuesday assured members of the Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) that he would convene a meeting at the government-level to take steps for the all-round development of the city.Mr. Prasad was felicitated by the members on the occasion.“I will convince the Chief Minister in this regard,” Mr. Prasad said at an interaction meeting held to discuss beautifying Mysore, with special focus on Dasara festivities. The government had already decided to waive entry tax for 15 days on vehicles entering Mysore, from October 1 to 15, Mr. Prasad said.Earlier, the president of the MCCI, Sudhakar, S. Shetty, who read out a memorandum and handed over a copy to Mr. Prasad, said that work on converting the Mysore–Bangalore railway line to broad gauge had to be expedited to benefit commuters travelling every day. More importantly, arrangements should be made to operate flights from the Mysore airport every day. According to Mr. Shetty, water supply under the Vani Vilas Water Works was often irregular. JUSCO was not doing a proper job either. The drinking water problem should be solved, he said. He added that power shortage had hit industrial production.

The Mysore–Nanjangud road had become accident-prone resulting in casualties. It should be converted to a four-lane road, he said. At the same time, the NICE corridor, connecting Mysore–Bangalore too needed attention. The State government should consider bringing Hebbal, Metagalli and Hootagalli areas, spread over more than 8,000 acres of land, under an industrial development authority. Responding to these points, Mr. Prasad said that the issue would be discussed at the meeting on developing Mysore city.

Jalandhar: An attempt of hundreds of supporters of self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, accused of sexual assault on a 16-year-old girl at his ashram, to stop trains at the Sodal railway crossing was thwarted by the police here this afternoon.The supporters, including a large number of women, had gathered at a shop near Patel Chowk, where they organised prayers for over two hours. They were then heading towards the crossing in the form of a rally when they were intercepted by a heavy posse of police at the Gazigulla locality.The ADCP (Headquarters) Navjot Mahal, ADCP-I, Naresh Dogra, ACP (West) Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu, ACP (Central) Dalbir Singh, SHO, Division Number 1 police station, Balbir Singh, and SHO, Division Number 8 police station, Kewal Kishan, had reached the spot along with force from the police stations.As Asaram supporters tried to resist the blockade, nearly 33 of them, including 20 women, were rounded up and taken away to the New Baradari police station in a Punjab Police bus. The supporters continued to resist the move and raised slogans in favour of their religious guru and against the police for "victimising" him for no wrong done.The SHO, New Baradari police station, Subhash Chander said all of them were released on bail after initiating proceedings against them under Section 107/150 of the CrPC. The ADCP-I, Naresh Dogra, said the step was taken to stop unnecessary harassment of public.

CHENNAI: Southern Railway collected 5.83 lakh fine from ticketless travelers in six hours after a massive ticket checking drive was carried out on Wednesday.More than 1,737 cases of ticketless travel and travel in first class with second class ticket and other violations were found during the drive that was conducted from 5am to 11am at Central, Egmore, Perambur, Tiruvallur and Tambaram railway stations."There were 1,297 cases of ticketless travel which yielded a fine of 4.27lakh. This was a massive drive conducted under supervision of chief commercial manager Sarala Balagopal," said a senior official.

वहीं 09707 जयपुर-लखनऊ त्रैसाप्ताहिक एक्सप्रेस जयपुर से लखनऊ जंक्शन (पूर्वोत्तर रेलवे) के लिए 8 सितम्बर से 8 अक्टूबर (प्रत्येक मंगलवार, शुक्रवार एवं रविवार) को जयपुर से 21.45 बजे प्रस्थान कर अगले दिन मथुरा जंक्शन से 2.50 बजे, मथुरा छावनी से 3.02 बजे, हाथरस सिटी से 3.41 बजे, कासगंज से 4.40 बजे, फर्रुखाबाद से 6.25 बजे, कन्नौज से 7.21 बजे, कानपुर अनवरगंज से 8.40 बजे, कानपुर सेंट्रल से 08.55 बजे चलकर लखनऊ जंक्शन (पूर्वोत्तर रेलवे) से 10.25 बजे, पहुँचेगी। श्री सिंह ने बताया कि इन गाड़ियों में एक द्वितीय वातानुकूलित, दो तृतीय वातानुकूलित, छह स्लीपर, छह सामान्य द्वितीय श्रेणी और दो एस.एल.आर. कुल 17 कोच लगाए जाएंगे।

इलाहाबाद : रेलवे अब गौरवशाली अतीत को जीवित रखने के लिए ऐतिहासिक धरोहर सजोएगा। बुधवार को उत्तर-मध्य रेलवे मुख्यालय में हैरिटेज कमेटी की बैठक में महाप्रबंधक ने तीनों मंडलों के अधिकारियों को ऐतिहासिक धरोहर सहेजने के निर्देश दिए हैं। इनमें 1882 में स्थापित इलाहाबाद लोको वर्कशॉप की दो चिमनिया, ग्वालियर का म्युजियम, नैरोगेज की रेल कार और निरीक्षण कार को शामिल किया गया है।
महाप्रबंधक ने कहा कि रेल का विकास देश की औद्योगिक प्रगति के साथ कदम से कदम मिलाकर हुआ है। इससे सभी मंडलों के पास भवनों, पुलों, वस्तुओं और मशीनों का अपार भंडार हैं। उन्होंने धरोहरों के संरक्षण के लिए मंडल स्तर पर उच्चस्तरीय फील्ड कमेटियां गठित करने का निर्देश दिया। यह कमेटियां अपर मंडल प्रबंधक के नेतृत्व में धरोहरों के रखरखाव और बचाव करने का काम करेंगी। मुख्य यांत्रिक इंजीनियर एवं हैरिटेज कमेटी के अध्यक्ष सैयद कबीर अहमद ने भी विरासत को सहेजने का समर्थन करते हुए भविष्य की योजनाओं की जानकारी दी। वित्त सलाहकार एवं कमेटी सचिव योगेश श्रीवास्तव ने ऐतिहासिक धरोहरों के संरक्षण को लेकर चल रहे कार्यो और उनकी वर्तमान स्थितियों के बारे में बताया। बैठक का संचालन मुख्य जनसम्पर्क अधिकारी संदीप माथुर ने किया। मुख्य इंजीनियर सतीश कुमार, आगरा, झांसी और इलाहाबाद के डीआरएम और मुख्य कारखाना प्रबंधक सहित अन्य अधिकारी मौजूद रहे।

Jammu : Three supporters of self-styled godman and rape accused Asaram were detained by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) after they disrupted rail traffic near Balol Nallah on Jammu-Pathankote railway route here this morning.Sources said around 100 supporters and followers of the accused, including women, had blocked the railway track at Balol Nallah in Bari Brahmana.They also raised slogans against the Congress-led UPA government for allegedly framing the accused godman Asaram under a conspiracy.The protestors carried placards and had a minor scuffle with the police when the latter tried to stop them from moving on the railway track.“They assembled near Balol Nallah at 7.45 am and had a minor scuffle with the police after they were stopped. The rail traffic remained disrupted for half-an-hour. The trains affected due to the disruption were Ahmedabad Express from Jammu and Jammu-bound Sealdah Express,” a police officer said.The official also claimed that some supporters and followers, who had boarded the Ahmedabad Express from Jammu, also joined the protestors raising anti-government slogans.After a brief disruption where two trains were delayed, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) swung into action and dispersed the protestors.Meanwhile, many Asaram's supporters continued their hunger strike at Bhagwati Nagar ashram here.They accused the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of implicating the “spiritual guru” in "false case" under a "well-planned conspiracy". They demanded the "spiritual guru" should be immediately released.Sources said that hundreds of supporters and followers of Asaram had already left for Jodhpur to hold protest against the government.
