The Signal and Telecommunication Workshop of the Southern Railways at Podanur has launched the e-auction facility.A release from the Divisional Headquarters of the Salem Railway Division said that S.K. Sinha, Controller, Southern Railway, inaugurated the facility in the presence of Navita Singh, Chief Workshop Manager, and R.K.Dash, Chief Materials Manager, recently.The facility provided a common platform for scrap purchasers all over the country, enabling them to offer bids online. |

A Zonal level Conference of Sr. Divisional Operations Managers of Western Railway was held in W.Rly.HQ office on 16th and 17th May, 2012 which was attended by Heads of Operating department of all the six divisions of Western Railway. Performance review was done for the year 2011-12 in which aspects concerning Coaching, Freight, Safety and Infrastructure planning was discussed.Mahesh Kumar, General Manager, W.Rly. addressing the Conference of Sr.DOMs of Western Railway. Also seen are Deepak Gupta, Addl. General Manager and Amitabh Lal, the then Chief Operations Manager of Western Railway Mahesh Kumar, General Manager, W.Rly. complimented all the officers for achieving and surpassing the freight loading target for the financial year 2011-12. He also asked officers for making all efforts to generate additional new traffic which will further increase Western Railway revenues.In order to keep smooth mobility in train operations, requirements of infrastructural inputs for removal of bottlenecks were discussed. Feasibility of demands in regards to additional coaching services were discussed. Issues and challenges concerning Railway Safety and their solutions were also discussed. |

Now, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Madurai junction, has come out with a helpline. Railway passengers who come to the station or onboard any train running anywhere can call 80561-62724 to air their grievance or complain about security-related issues.The Divisional Security Commissioner, S. Balasubramanian, launched the helpline that would function round the clock at Madurai.“People can contact over this number for any kind of assistance. Even if they are travelling in a train outside Madurai railway division, they can contact us and the information would be passed on to the RPF station concerned to ensure that they get timely assistance,” he said.People may complain about security related issues and nuisance caused by co-passengers in the running train. Besides, they can complain about luggage missed in trains. “We will help to trace the luggage with the help of RPF personnel on the train and also in other railway stations,” he said. The Assistant Security Commissioner, Philip Jayakumar, said that the RPF personnel would closely coordinate with the Tamil Nadu Railway Police in helping the passengers.The helpline of TRP is 99625-00500.The Madurai Station Manager, C. Lenin Kumar, RPF Inspector, R. Venu, and TRP Sub-Inspector, M. Kannan, were among those who were present. |

The Rs8,500 crore monorail transit system for the city, which is the chief minister’s pet project, gathered steam on Tuesday with the state government finalising the bid documents submitted by various developers. The qualifiers for the next stage of process are likely to be named soon.The ‘monorail empowered committee’ that comprises chief secretary, transport secretary and secretaries of various departments met at the Secretariat and discussed the recommendations given by the Hyderabad-based advisory consultant who was appointed to evaluate the tender documents submitted by the bidders.“The discussions were fruitful and the government will come up with a positive announcement in a day or two. Subsequently the next stage of the bidding process (request for proposals) will be started soon” sources in the government told DC on Tuesday.Earlier, on March 20, the last date for submission of bids for RFQ (request for qualifying for monorail), around 10 firms had submitted tenders for the project, which were evaluated by the consultant and sent to the government for approval. Malaysian firm, Scomi international, players from Spain (Kafe India), Japan (Hitachi) and China took part in the tendering process.In the first phase of the 57-km-long network work would begin on three elevated corridors — Vandalur to Velachery; Poonamallee to Kathipara; and Poonamallee to Vadapalani. |
