MUMBAI, SEPT. 27:  Booking queues at railway ticket counters seem to have got shorter this year compared with last year.

An Internet Economy Watch, conducted by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), shows that irctc.co.in has registered a 48 per cent year-on-year growth.

The number of rail tickets booked online increased to 6.07 million in August compared with 4.11 million last year. Air tickets booked online have also increased to 1.49 million in August from 1.19 million last year, according to the IAMAI study.

A sample of 57.12 million Internet users above the age of 15 years was taken for the study.

Interestingly, the study shows that the number of resume uploads have dropped to 1.99 million this year from 2.06 million in August 2011.

However, profile uploads on matrimonial Web sites increased to 2.18 million from 2.05 million.

E-TAILING SEGMENT

In the e-tailing segment, there has been an increase in the number of people visiting online branded apparel and designer label stores in August. There were more visitors to online book and mobile stores. The number of visits in the mobiles category increased to 5.05 million in August from 4.92 million last year.

The spa/restaurant segment witnessed 0.84 million user visits compared with 0.71 million in the same month last year, said the IAMAI study.

IAMAI is an industry body representing the online and mobile value-added services industry in India.

The Railways have decided to run 20 special trains on Hazrat Nizamuddin--Nagpur route to manage passenger rush during upcoming festive season on this route.Accordingly train number 02438 H Nizamuddinn – Nagpur Special will leave H Nizamuddin at 06.45 AM on every Friday from September 28 to Nov 30 (10 Trips) and arrive Nagpur at 01.40 AM the next day (Saturday). Similarly, Nagpur – H.Nizamuddinn (02437) special train will leave Nagpur at 3.50 AM every Saturday from September 29 to Dec 1 and arrive H Nizamuddinn at 20.40 hrs on same day (Saturday). It will halt at Itarsi, Bhopal and Jhansi in both the direction, according to a release from Public Relations Department, Central Railway, Nagpur Division.

Railways claimed a convincing 3-1 win over Uttar Pradesh to advance to the last eight of the second Hockey India Senior National championships at the MEG grounds here on Friday.
