Ministry of Railways has drawn up plans for setting up an Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Nischintapur to facilitate container-cargo transportation in the proposed Agartala-Akhaura rail route, Anil Kumar Gupta, Managing Director (MD) of Container Corporation of India Limited (CONCOR), Ministry of Railways said here today.

The central PSU has been undertaking logistics support in container and non-container cargo transportation since 1989. It currently operates with 62 terminals nationwide, nine of which are located in the eastern region.

The lone ICD in Northeast at Guwahati has been functioning for the last 25 years. The terminal handles over 5,000 containers per year. However, trade has got a huge potential in the region, especially eyeing at the growing bilateral understanding with Bangladesh.

“CONCOR has chalked out plans for connecting Ashuganj port in Bangladesh with Akhaura. An ICD would be set up in Tripura for the purpose”, said Gupta. Preliminary discussion on the issue was held with Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Chief Secretary Dr. SK Panda today, he said adding that officials of the railway ministry would visit the state again shortly to conduct a feasibility study on the prospects of setting up ICD in the state. The ICD of Nischintapur is likely to have freight terminal, container and non-container cargo transportation facilities

जयपुर. रेलवे प्रशासन ने गोगामेड़ी मेले में होने वाले अतिरिक्त यात्री भार को देखते हुए तिलक ब्रिज-रेवाड़ी-तिलक ब्रिज सवारी गाड़ी, दिल्ली सराय रोहिल्ला-रेवाड़ी-दिल्ली सराय रोहिल्ला सवारी गाड़ी, लुधियाना-हिसार-लुधियाना सवारी गाड़ी का सादुलपुर तक विस्तार किया है। यह विस्तार 6 अगस्त से 12 अगस्त तक रहेगा। उत्तर पश्चिम रेलवे के मुख्य जनसंपर्क अधिकारी ललित बोहरा ने यह जानकारी दी।

इस प्रकार हुआ है विस्तार

1. रेवाड़ी-सादुलपुर-रेवाड़ी मेला स्पेशल पैसेंजर ट्रेन: यह ट्रेन रेवाड़ी से रात 9:05 बजे रवाना होकर रात 11 बजे सादुलपुर पहुंचेगी। वापसी में सादुलपुर से रात 12:30 बजे रवाना होकर रात 3 बजे रेवाड़ी पहुंचेगी। रेवाड़ी से तिलक ब्रिज का समय यथावत रहेगा।


2. रेवाड़ी-सादुलपुर-रेवाड़ी मेला स्पेशल पैसेंजर ट्रेन : यह ट्रेन रेवाड़ी से रात 11 बजे रवाना होकर सादुलपुर रात 1:30 बजे पहुंचेगी। वापसी में सादुलपुर से रात 2 बजे रवाना होकर रेवाड़ी सुबह 4:20 बजे पहुंचेगी। रेवाड़ी से दिल्ली सराय रोहिल्ला का समय यथावत रहेगा।


3. हिसार-सादुलपुर-हिसार मेला स्पेशल ट्रेन : यह ट्रेन हिसार से सुबह 11:40 बजे रवाना होकर दोपहर 1:40 बजे सादुलपुर पहुंचेगी। वापसी में सादुलपुर से दोपहर 2:30 बजे रवाना होकर शाम 3:55 बजे हिसार पहुंचेगी। हिसार से लुधियाना तक के समय में कोई परिवर्तन नहीं किया गया है।

CHANDIGARH/SHIMLA: The 1927 Rail Motor Car that had been chugging through a verdant route of Himachal Pradesh for 85 continuous years on the narrow gauge Unesco world heritage Kalka-Shimla rail track has come to a screeching halt, after its wheels wore off recently.Out of four such rail cars, which were made between 1927 and 1930 by the British, this was the last to run on the Shimla tracks that offer a panoramic visual feast to tourists flocking to the state round the year."The wheels were giving way due to wear and tear. We had first tried to introduce cast wheels but were not able to get any manufacturer in India," PK Sanghi, divisional railway manager (Ambala), told TOI over the phone.The Kalka-Shimla rail track — a triumph of engineering marvel — has always managed to recreate the old world charm associated with journeys on mountain railways.The car, along with three other trains — Shivalik Deluxe, Himalayan Queen, Kalka-Shimla passenger — reached its destination in 4 hours and 25 minutes, passing through 864 bridges, 102 tunnels and at least 900 sharp curves and turns.The Gothic-style Barog railway station become a favourite jaunt for Bollywood stars, last drawing actors Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor during the shooting of 'Jab We Met'. A group of 14-18 passengers could be accommodated in this vintage locomotive that resembled buses used during World War II.According to the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), which managed the car's charter bookings, the car remained a strong favourite with foreigners and Indians from metropolitan towns heading for vacations till it ran regularly a few months ago."Unfortunately, we had to stop the charter booking four months ago when Indian Railways told us about the problem. It remained most-popular with group tours," IRCTC public relation officer told TOI.The car was fitted with a transparent fibre-glass roof, offering a view of the skies. There were even facilities, including digital time-cum-temperature display unit, TV/VCP, and a music system.The Indian Railways have now begun a search to bring the rail car back on tracks. "We have floated a tender for the replacement of wheels and other parts," said Sanghi.

The death toll in Tamil Nadu Express fire rose to 34 with a student from Amritsar, Sukhdev Singh, succumbing to severe burns on Saturday after battling for life for six days at Narayana Hospital in Nellore.

He suffered burns of above 55 per cent in the ghastly mishap which took place in early hours of July 30. His father Gurdeep Singh, a railway employee working as a plumber at Northern Railway Mechanical Workshop, Amritsar, is making preparations to take the body back home by flight from Chennai.

Twenty three year old Sukhdev Singh, was a student of Indian Maritime University, East Coast Road, Chennai. He was returning along with three co-students after a visit to Amritsar when the accident took place.

South Eastern Railway has tightened security in railway stations and trains in view of the serial bomb blasts in Pune and the all India alert sounded by the government.Random anti sabotage checks at stations and trains were being conducted and also random frisking of passengers were being done at major railway stations, a press release issued by S E Railway said here today.The South Eastern Railway's 25 sniffer dogs were being used for anti-sabotage checks at major stations like Kharagpur, Tatanagar, Rourkela, Bankura Adra, Bokaro, Ranchi and Muri.Announcements were being made at major stations to inform the RPF and GRP about unclaimed, unattended objects, luggage or suspicious objects on railway premises, it said.The TTEs and coach attendants and running staff were asked to look for suspicious or inflammable objects and immediately bring it to the notice of the RPF and GRP. The RPF and the railway staff have been advised to keep constant vigil against suspicious-looking persons entraining or detraining at stations.Coaches from the stabling yard were being brought locked to stations while dustbins and toilets etc at stations were being cleaned on a regular basis. Close co-ordination was being maintained between the RPF and GRP and local police, with the security drive to continue till August 15, it said.
