AURANGABAD: The police on Thursday tightened bandobast operations and stepped up vigil in the city in the wake of the serial blasts on Jangli Maharaj Road in Pune, said deputy commissioner of police Somnath Gharge.He said that immediately after receiving information about the blasts, commissioner of police Sanjay Kumar convened a meeting to prepare a strategy to meet any eventuality. He ordered nakabandi to check all vehicles coming in from Pune and alerted three bomb detection and disposal squads as well as the quick response team.The meeting also reviewed all standard operating procedures to meet any eventuality. "Theatres, multiplexes and malls have been alerted and directed to be extra careful. Patrolling around important installations and establishments, like bus stands and the railway station, has been increased. Bandobast has also been enhanced at the government medical college and hospital," Gharge added.Police stations have been asked to identify strategic places where patrolling could be increased, he said."We have also urged the managements of mosques, where a large number of people gather to offer prayers on Friday, to arrange for volunteers and keep all types of vehicles away from the places of worship. It has been observed that mischief-mongers and terrorists use vehicles, including two-wheelers, to plant low intensity explosive devices. It is always better that vehicles are parked away from places of congregation," Gharge said, adding that the police would continue its vigil at vital installations.

जबलपुर से सिंगरौली के लिए प्रस्तावित इंटरसिटी ट्रेन का 11 डिब्बों वाला रैक यहां पहुंच गया है। इसे 15 अगस्त से चलाए जाने की संभावना है, लेकिन अब तक इसकी अधिकृत घोषणा नहीं की गई है। रैक में कुल 11 डिब्बे हैं, जिसमें 10 डिब्बे चेयरकार और एक डिब्बा एसी चेयरकार है। यह ट्रेन कटनी में नहीं रूकेगी बल्कि इसका स्टॉपेज न्यू कटनी जंक्शन पर होगा।

Use of plastics has been banned from Velankanni as a prelude to the arrangements for the Velankanni festival in the district. Presiding over the consultative meeting on the arrangements needed for the 10-day festival that is set to receive lakhs of pilgrims , Collector T.Munusamy has called for coordinated effort among the line departments.Mr.Munusamy has urged the departments to ensure additional amenities for pilgrims this year.The proposal envisages 50 water tanks of 1,000 litre capacity each in all prime locations.Also, purified drinking water facilities will be set up at the Velankanni beach, Velankanni arch, and railway stations at Velankanni, Nagore and Nagapattinam.Check-posts would be set up to test water quality supplied by water tankers prior to their entry into Velankanni. Water quality testing would be carried out jointly by the department of health and Velankanni town panchayat.Importance has been accorded to sanitation with the administration set to station sanitation workers round-the-clock to collect garbage. The garbage would be transported to the garbage collection centre which is two km away from Velankanni. Sanitation workers would be roped in from the adjoining town panchayats and Nagapattinam municipality along with the assistance of NGOs and voluntary organisations till the conclusion of the festival.

Works are on to set up temporary toilets with uninterrupted water supply in and around Velankanni. Other civil amenities, including adequate streetlights, temporary parking lots, and temporary lighting along the beach and other water bodies would be arranged.

On the health front, the Collector has directed setting up of 24-hour medical posts consisting of 50 doctors and 50 nurses in prime locations, including Velankanni arch and railway station, Puthur junction, Nagapattinam bus stand and railway station. Also, month-long inspections would be carried out in all eateries in Nagapattinam and Velankanni, Mr.Munusamy has said.

Police administration has been directed to provide arrangements for parking in coordination with the regional transport office and transport corporations. In addition, transport corporations of Madurai, Villupuram and Kumbakonam have proposed to run 650 special buses to meet pilgrim traffic.

Police have been asked to regulate autos plying into Velankanni during the festival season.

Mr.Munusamy has assured uninterrupted power supply during the course of the festival and the TANGEDCO has been directed to mend fragile and unsecure lines prior to the festival.

Six fire service vehicles, 175 personnel, and two ambulance services would be stationed in the area. Further, rescue teams would be set up along the beach.

According to the administration, over 1,100 police personnel would be stationed along with 500 home guard personnel for security and surveillance. Surveillance cameras would be put up in 50 locations.

  Indian Railways News  / Work on Oshiwara railway station to begin from May

Nearly a decade after the green signal was given for building Oshiwara railway station, the Western Railway (WR) will begin constructing it from May. The station was proposed between Jogeshwari and Goregaon under phase-I of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project, which then kept it pending
due to deadline constraints. Most of the corresponding work, like creating space for the platforms, extension of tracks for the Harbour line and other work, has begun.

Locals have been demanding a road over-bridge (ROB) ever since the station was proposed, before the closure of the level crossing gate.  Now, the WR will begin work on constructing this 10-lane ROB (including footpaths) along with the Oshiwara station.

This ROB will connect the Swami Vivekanand Road (SV Road) with the Western Express Highway.

“Once the ROB is completed in two years’ time, two of our level crossing gates (number 25 and 26) will be closed for vehicles and trespassers,” said chief PRO, S Chandrayan of WR.

Once the LC gate is closed, it will help smoother operation of suburban trains, and could mean fewer incidents of trespassing.

The cost of this ROB above the tracks is Rs. 14 crore while the total cost is around Rs. 40 crore. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has given the balance amount.

Initially, there were problems between the BMC and WR on the cost-sharing pattern, which has now been sorted out.
HT had first reported about this 10-lane ROB and construction of Oshiwara railway station on February 4. WR is in the process of calling tenders for the construction of another road over-bridge between Andheri and Jogeshwari railway stations, which will happen in the next three months.
