The Assam government has requested the Northeast Frontier Railway authorities in Guwahati to arrange for special trains to transport persons from the state and other NE states who had recently fled their work place in Southern States and Maharashtra [ Images ] out of fear of persecution as threatened through SMSs that were doing rounds in those areas.A senior NFR official informed that a meeting was held between railway officials and Assam government officials to explore ways to transport people from the state to south India [ Images ] to help them resume their work/study that they had let behind recently while rushing back home out of panic. The official said though the government had requested for special trains, no specific date for running the same was not decided yet and it would depend on the rush of the passengers.Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi [ Images ] on Wednesday claimed that most of the persons from Assam who had fled leaving behind their jobs/study in South India were now willing to return as the situation out there had improved because of the security measures adopted by respective governments."Moreover, it has been established that there was not real threat and the panic was triggered because of SMS and MMS campaign launched by anti-India elements," Gogoi added. He said legislators of the state who have met many of those people fleeing southern states, had gathered that most of the people were willing to go back and already some of them have left. |

639 | Indian Railways News / You may have to pay more for tickets on Metro IIIon : Aug 23, 2012 - 08:00:20 AM |
|
MUMBAI: You may have to shell out more for a ticket on the proposed underground Metro III rail line between Colaba and Andheri via Bandra compared to Metro I on the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar route.Fares for Metro III would be regulated on the lines of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) under the Metro Rail Act. The first elevated line is being implemented under the Tramways Act and its fare would be 1.5 times that on existing BEST routes. Though it will take longer for Metro II and III to come up, the proposal for Metro III has been sent to the directorate of economic affairs for financial clearance prior to cabinet and other approvals. The Metro II line, which will have the same fare as Metro I, is still to come up, despite a contract being awarded to Reliance Infrastructure three years ago, mainly due to the absence of permissions to use commercial areas, aviation clearance and removal of high-voltage lines. This line is though proposed to completely elevated, people in western suburbs are demanding to build underground between Dahisarand Bandra via Charkop."The 30km Metro III line may be underground and hence cost Rs 24,000 crore. Governments can fund up to 46% of the costs; 54% will come as a loan from a Japanese bank. So, to make it financially feasible, DMRC tariffs will have to be applied, which are higher than the Metro I line," said MMRDA commissioner Rahul Asthana. |
