The Gooty Loco Diesel Shed has been adjudged as the best functioning diesel shed in the South Central Railway zone.

The loco shed is responsible for the maintenance of 137 loco engines and has a work force of 3,000.

Gooty has been recognised as one of the few well-maintained loco sheds in the country. Of the five diesel loco sheds in the South Central Railway, Gooty had been adjudged as the best loco shed.

The certificate of award has been presented by South Central Railway General Manager Jayanth to DME Sreenivasulu at a function in Hyderabad. Technicians - Abraham, Sekhar, Kulayappa, Rajendra Prasad Reddy, Khadar Valli, Jaffar, Suresh, Hussein Saheb, Narayana Swamy, Sreenivasulu, Narasimhulu, Shiva Kumar, Nagaraju and Subramanyam were given best worker awards for displaying efficiency and hard work. The employees had been to Hyderabad on Monday to personally receive the awards and certificates of merit.

Bangalore:  Several firms, particularly from Malaysia, have evinced interest in developing a monorail in Bangalore, Mangalore and Hubli–Dharwad, Minister of Karnataka State for Information and Infrastructrue Mr.Santosh Lad has said.

First round of talks

Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, he said several firms, through their consultants, held the first round of talks with the government. The estimated cost of constructing an elevated monorail ranged from Rs. 100 core to Rs. 120 crore.

The traffic situation in Bangalore could be eased by constructing a monorail, which could serve as a feeder service for the metro, Mr. Lad said.

He said that details pertaining to outlay for the project, invitation of expression of interest and land acquisition would be known only in the next couple of weeks. The firms had proposed developing a 20 to 25 km monorail in Hubli–Dharwad and 30 to 35 km in Bangalore in the first phase.

“We told the foreign firms to visit Belgaum and other tier II cities to explore opportunities for construction of monorail,” Mr. Lad said.

To a question on the delay in completion of railway projects in the State, Mr. Lad said that of 14 projects, only two had been completed so far. Land acquisition and escalation of costs were the major reasons for the delay, he said.

Intervention sought

The Minister said that he had written to Union Railway Minister M. Mallikarjun Kharge seeking his intervention to expedite the work.

He added that development of infrastructure in city corporation limits would be possible only by levying cess on residents in these limits.

Though the announcement for making important railway stations of the country into world class stations was made in the year 2009, but the project has been on the backburner ever since. Around 50 railway stations were selected for the renovation, including stations of Varanasi, Lucknow, Allahabad, Mathura, Agra Cantt, Jhansi, Gorakhpur and Kanpur.

It is noteworthy that the plan for the world class station accounted to bring the existing stations up to the international standards in terms of efficiency of operations, comfort and convenience to passengers and the stakeholders. A number of stations of Indian Railways, located at metropolitan cities and important centers were identified for development through public, private partnership (PPP) model. The modern facilities like construction of hotels and rest houses to accommodate 1,000 people, restaurants, shopping complex, modernised parking, acoustic environment, advanced ticketing, public address system and entertainment arenas were also proposed in it.

It was also expected that once the project gets completed, these stations will be vibrant centers of city commerce, entertainment and social space. When TOI tried to take stock of the status of the project,it surfaced that the proposal of conversion of Cantonment railway station of Varanasi into a world class railway station is losing hope. According to sources, cities like Delhi and Lucknow have also not got the work started so Varanasi is lagging way behind. Former railway board chairman, Vinay Mittal had already hinted that no work for the Delhi station could be undertaken due to several problems being faced in extension of the station premises. The sources revealed that several places of worship were coming in the way of extension and similar problems are expected to surface in Varanasi and Lucknow stations.

After the announcement of this ambitious project no correspondence or official formalities for this purpose was made at Varanasi railway station so far, informed the chief area manager, Cantonment railway station, PK Saxena. However, senior divisional commercial manager ( DCM), Lucknow division, NR, AK Srivastava, said, "It is not that the plan for world class station will not be enforced, but so far there is no guideline or step taken in this regard. I am not aware of what is hindering the work on New Delhi railway station but it is definitely a difficult task to undertake massive renovation work at a fully functional railway station". He further said that to keep up with the works related to world class railway station, an office was established in New Delhi, however, it has not under taken any significant work as of now.

रेलवे और राज्य परिवहन निगम जैसे थोक उपभोक्ताओं के लिए डीजल पर मिलने वाली सब्सिडी को खत्म करने के केंद्र सरकार के फैसले पर सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने मुहर लगा दी है। उसका कहना है कि अर्थव्यवस्था बुरे दौर से गुजर रही है। ऐसे में सब्सिडी पर व्यावहारिक रवैया अपनाना होगा।
जस्टिस आरएम लोढा की अध्यक्षता वाली पीठ ने सोमवार को कहा, 'हमें अपनी सोच बदलनी होगी। आप सब्सिडी पर निर्भर नहीं रह सकते। इसके लिए आपको दूसरे तरीके अपनाने होंगे। आप लोगों से चार्ज वसूलें। हम इसे नजरअंदाज नहीं कर सकते कि तेल आयात होता है। ऐसे में रूढ़िवादी सोच बदलनी होगी।' कोर्ट ने डीजल कीमतों को नियंत्रण मुक्त करने की केंद्र की नीति के अमल पर मद्रास और केरल हाई कोर्ट से लगे रोक को खारिज कर दिया। हाई कोर्ट के फैसले को इंडियन ऑयल कारपोरेशन ने चुनौती दी थी। पीठ ने माना कि 83 फीसद तेल आयात होता है और इस पर सब्सिडी से सरकारी तेल कंपनियां प्रभावित होंगी। ऐसे में परिवहन निगमों को परिचालन लागत कम करने के साथ लोगों से पैसे वसूलना चाहिए। हमें यह भी देखना चाहिए कि रुपये की कीमत गिरती जा रही है और इससे चालू खाता घाटा पर असर पड़ रहा है। ऐसे में अर्थव्यवस्था को बचाए रखने की चुनौती है। इस साल जनवरी में सरकार ने रेलवे, मॉल, मोबाइल टावर सहित तमाम थोक ग्राहकों को बाजार कीमत पर डीजल देने का फैसला किया था।

नोएडा : सिटी सेंटर मेट्रो स्टेशन पर मरम्मत का कार्य चौथे दिन मंगलवार को भी जारी रहा। इसके चलते प्लेटफार्म नंबर एक को बंद कर दिया गया है। मेट्रो रेल अपने निर्धारित समय से देरी से पहुंच रही है। स्टेशन पर दूसरे प्लेटफार्म पर यात्रियों की अच्छी खासी भीड़ देखने में मिल रही है। इस स्टेशन पर भीड़ के चलते यात्री गोल्फ कोर्स स्टेशन से सफर करना उचित समझ रहे हैं।
मंगलवार को दिल्ली मेट्रो रेल कारपोरेशन (डीएमआरसी) के आलाधिकारियों ने भी स्टेशन का निरीक्षण किया। सिटी सेंटर मेट्रो स्टेशन के पिलर कागाटर खिसक जाने से प्लेटफार्म नंबर एक में दरार आ गई। इससे वह झुक गया था। इससे चलते प्लेटफार्म नंबर एक बंद कर दिया है। यात्रियों को प्लेटफार्म नंबर दो पर ही उतरना पड़ रहा है। मेट्रो में सफर करने वाले राहुल वाजपेयी का कहना है कि उसे सेक्टर-41 से दिल्ली द्वारिका तक रोज सफर करना पड़ता है। सिटी सेंटर पर भीड़ के चलते वह गोल्फ कोर्स से अपना सफर तय कर रहा है।
सिटी सेंटर मेट्रो स्टेशन पर मंगलवार को डीएमआरसी के आलाधिकारियों ने भी निरीक्षण किया। साथ ही प्लेटफार्म नंबर दो पर गार्डो की संख्या भी बढ़ाई गई। इससे भीड़ को नियंत्रित किया जा सके।

जोधपुर. रेलवे के अनारक्षित टिकट बेचने के लिए अब कोई भी एजेंट बन सकेगा. रेलवे ने इसके लिए जनसाधारण टिकट बुकिंग सेवक (जेटीबीएस) का दायरा बढ़ाते हुए तय किया है कि मंडल के किसी भी स्टेशन से जुड़े उपयुक्त क्षेत्र के लिए अनुमति ली जा सकती है. इसके लिए सभी श्रेणियों के विकल्प खुले रखे गए हैं. जोधपुर शहर में फिलहाल चार जगह ही अनारक्षित टिकट एजेंट नियुक्त हैं.

जोधपुर शहर में फिलहाल रेलवे स्टेशन के सामने हाजी बिल्डिंग, लखारा बाजार, वीर दुर्गादास कॉलोनी पावटा व चौपासनी हाउसिंग बोर्ड पहली पुलिया पर ऐसे टिकट काउंटर हैं. अब इनकी संख्या बढ़ाने के लिए रेलवे ने तय किया है कि शहर व उपनगरीय क्षेत्रों में किसी भी लोकेशन पर एक से अधिक काउंटर लगाए जा सकते हैं.

रेलवे जेटीबीएस खोलने के लिए 3 अक्टूबर को आवेदन जारी करेगा. अगले दिन दोपहर तीन बजे तक आवेदन लेकर रेलवे उसी दिन अपराह्न् साढ़े चार बजे उन आवेदनों की छंटनी कर जेटीबीएस का चयन करेगा. टिकट बेचने की अनुमति तीन साल के लिए दी जाएगी.

हिमाचल प्रदेश सरकार की पहल पर केंद्र ने दी परियोजना को हरी झंडी
-रेल लाइन नंगल डैम, तलवाड़ा मुकेरियां होते हुए पठानकोट तक जाएगी
मुकेरियां-दसूहा के कंडी क्षेत्र को भी अब रेलवे से जोड़ा जाएगा। हिमाचल प्रदेश सरकार की पहल के बाद केंद्र सरकार ने इस योजना को हरी झंडी दी है। यह रेल लाइन वाया नंगल डैम, तलवाड़ा मुकेरियां होते हुए पठानकोट तक जाएगी। पूरी परियोजना की लंबाई 83.74 किलोमीटर है। नंगल से अंब (हिमाचल प्रदेश) तक परियोजना का 62 किलोमीटर भाग हिमाचल में है और शेष पंजाब में है।
क्षेत्र में पहले भी था रेलवे ट्रैक
1965 में जब पौंग बांध का निर्माण शुरू हुआ था तो मुकेरियां से तलवाड़ा होते हुए पौंग बांध (घाटी स्टेशन) तक रेलवे ट्रैक बिछाया गया था। हालांकि इस रुट पर मात्र मालगाड़ी ही चलती रही, वह भी बांध के निर्माण कार्य में प्रयोग होने वाली सामग्री ढोने के लिए ही। मात्र तलवाड़ा से घाटी तक के सात किलोमीटर क्षेत्र में सवारी गाड़ी चलती थी, वह भी डैम के कर्मचारियों को ढोने के लिए। पौंग बांध का निर्माण कार्य बंद हुआ तो सवारी गाड़ी और मुकेरियां रुट से मालगाड़ी भी बंद हो गई।
गत कई वर्षो से नंगल डैम तलवाड़ा-मुकेरियां रुट के सर्वे होते रहे, पर निर्माण कार्य तो चालू नहीं हुआ। अलबत्ता बीबीएमबी प्रबंधक और रेलवे ने मुकेरियां-तलवाड़ा रेलवे ट्रैक ही उखाड़ लिया। आज यदि वह ट्रैक न उखाड़ा गया होता तो 25 किलोमीटर ट्रैक बना बनाया मिल जाता और लोगों को सुविधा भी शीघ्र मिल जाती। आज भी इस रेलवे ट्रैक पर तलवाड़ा में रेलवे स्टेशन बना हुआ है। दातारपुर व खटीगढ़ के पास सड़कों पर रेलवे क्रांसिंगों पर और हाजीपुर में रेलवे के क्र्वाटर बने हैं।
यह है वर्तमान स्थिति
लोकसभा चुनाव नजदीक आया तो सालों से लंबित परियोजना को रेल मंत्रालय ने तेजी देने का मन बनाया है। गत दिनों रेलमंत्री माल्लिकार्जुन खरगे और मुख्यमंत्री हिमाचल प्रदेश वीरभद्र सिंह के बीच हुई बैठक के बाद उक्त प्रोजेक्ट को पूरा करने का रेलवे बोर्ड ने निर्णय लिया है। फैसले के मुताबिक हिमाचल इस परियोजना में 25 प्रतिशत खर्च वहन करेगा। शेष खर्च रेलवे करेगा। पंजाब के तलवाड़ा-हाजीपुर-मुकेरियां क्षेत्र की रेलवे लाईन के लिए जमीन पंजाब उपलब्ध करवाएगा। उक्त ब्राडगेज लाइन को बनाने का समयबद्ध एलान करने का भी मुख्यमंत्री हिमाचल प्रदेश ने अनुरोध रेलवे मंत्री से किया है।
इलाके के लोगों ने किया स्वागत
इस निर्णय का इलाका के प्रबुद्ध लोगों डा. धु्रव सिह, सुशील पिंकी, प्रेम चौधरी, अशोक सभ्रवाल, कंवर रतन चंद ने स्वागत किया है व रेलवे ट्रैक को तेजी से बनाने की मांग की है ताकि इलाका में रेल सुविधा की लोगों की इच्छा पूरी हो सके।

ऊना से हजूर साहिब नांदेड के लिए वीकली एक्सप्रेस टे्रन न चलाने पर जनहित मोर्चा भड़क उठा है। इसके विरोध में मोर्चा के कार्यकर्ता 21 सितंबर को यहां रेलवे स्टेशन पर प्रदर्शन करेंगे। इसके अलावा टे्रन भी रोकी जाएगी। इसी सिलसिले में 18 सितंबर को मोर्चा के पदाधिकारी टे्रन रोकने के लिए डीसी अभिषेक जैन और ऊना रेलवे स्टेशन के प्रभारी को ज्ञापन देंगे। इस बात की जनहित मोर्चा के प्रवक्ता राजीव भनोट ने पुष्टि की है।
मालूम रहे कि फरवरी माह में तत्कालीन केंद्रीय रेलवे मंत्री पवन कुमार बंसल ने रेल बजट में ऊना से हजूर साहिब नांदेड के लिए वीकली एक्सप्रेस टे्रन चलाने की घोषणा की थी। उस वक्त एक्सप्रेस चलाने की घोषणा का लोगों ने स्वागत किया था। लेकिन पहली जुलाई को रेलवे के नए शैड्यूल में नांदेड एक्सप्रेस की समयसारिणी नंगल डेम स्टेशन से जारी की गई। इसके बाद जनहित मोर्चा ने नांदेड एक्सप्रेस को बजटीय घोषणा के मुताबिक चलाने के लिए ऊना रेलवे स्टेशन पर विरोध स्वरूप धरना दिया था।
इसमें भाजयुमो के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष एवं सांसद अनुराग ठाकुर भी शामिल हुए थे। इस दौरान बजटीय घोषणा के अनुरूप टे्रन चलाने की मांग उठी। इसके अलावा केंद्रीय रेल मंत्री और नॉदर्न रेलवे के आला अधिकारियों को ज्ञापन भेजे गए। लेकिन फिर भी लोगों की इस मांग को रेलवे विभाग ने तवज्जो नहीं दी। अब इस टे्रन को 3 अक्टूबर को नंगल डैम रेलवे स्टेशन से चलाया जाएगा।
इस बात से जनहित मोर्चा और सामाजिक संस्थाओं को मायूसी ही हाथ लगी है। अब जनहित मोर्चा ने 21 सितंबर को टे्रन रोकने का फैसला लिया है।  मोर्चा के चेयरमैन नवदीप कश्यप, उपाध्यक्ष बलविंद्र गोल्डी, महामंत्री राजकुमार पठानिया, चीफ एडवाइजर डॉ. सुभाष शर्मा ने नांदेड एक्सप्रेस बारे लोगों से समर्थन की अपील की है। उन्होंने कहा कि केंद्र सरकार और रेलवे विभाग रेलवे नेटवर्क विस्तार मामले में हिमाचल की अनदेखी कर रहा है। इसे कतई सहन नहीं किया जाएगा।
लोकसभा अध्यक्ष को भजेंगे पत्र
मोर्चा प्रवक्ता राजीव भनोट ने कहा कि इस मसले को लोकसभा अध्यक्ष मीरा कुमार से उठाया जाएगा। इस संबंध में उन्हें एक पत्र भेजा जाएगा। जिसमें बजटीय घोषणा के अनुरूप नांदेड एक्सप्रेस टे्रन को चलाने की मांग की जाएगी। उन्होंने कहा कि ऊना जिले में काफी तदाद में सिख समुदाय के लोग रहते हैं। वैसे भी ऊना गुरुनानक देव के वंशजों की धरती है। ऐसे में ऊना को हजूर साहिब नांदेड के लिए टे्रन चलाने से हजारों लोगों को फायदा होना था।

The Union Cabinet is set to clear in the next couple of days a long-pending refinery-cum-petrochemical complex in Rajasthan's Barmer district, giving Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's Congress administration approval for much-needed industry showpiece to show to voters in time before an Election Commission ban on pre-poll announcements comes into place next week.Gehlot has lined up a program on Sunday for Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to lay the foundation stone of the Rs 38,000-crore project between state-run refiner HPCL and the Rajasthan government. The state government will have 26% stake in the project.The Public Investment Board on Monday evening cleared the proposal, which has been battling a series of sabotage attempts from multiple quarters since March when the state government and HPCL signed an MoU. "The cabinet committee on economic affairs is slated to give its final nod to the project by Thursday," one political source said.Sources said the project was put on a fast-track after the Gandhi family rallied around Gehlot, who has been lobbying hard in Delhi for the past six months to get it approved. Gehlot, who faces assembly elections in November, is now seen locked in a neck-andneck race against the BJP led by former chief minister Vasundhara Raje after a tepid start, his comeback largely because of the popularity of the state government's medical and old-age pension schemes.The Centre and state government's race against the EC date for poll notification, expected any time next week, is likely to benefit other projects too. On Sunday, after laying the foundation state for the new refinery, she will also lay the foundation stone for a rail coach factory in Gulabpur in Bhilwara. A day before, the PM is slated to lay the foundation stone of an airport project in Ajmer.

The coin vending machine at the Madurai railway station has eased the pressure of coin shortage on passengers as well as railway staff.

The machine put up by Karur Vysya Bank, near the unreserved ticketing counter has been useful in ensuring a continuous supply of coins. The vending machine spews coins in the denominations of Rs. 5, Rs. 2 and Re 1 when currency notes are inserted. Passengers who are short of coins are advised by the counter staff to get coins from the vending machines.

“Every day we are given coins for Rs. 200 as we come for duty. Apart from these coins, the coins received from passengers are good enough for rotation. With the ticket fare rounded off to Rs. 5, the problem for small change has been solved for now,” a clerk said.

The five weighing machines kept at the railway station also help the railway authorities acquire coins at regular intervals.

“However, the problem starts only when someone hands over Rs. 100 for a single platform ticket (of Rs. 5). Obviously, we cannot give back Rs. 95,” he points out.

The vending machine functions between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. A security guard is posted during working hours mainly to stop the misuse of the machine. “We get a group of 10 to 15 traders coming to the city by the Shencottah passenger every morning. They form a queue here and draw coins. I ensure that they do not take coins for more than Rs. 10,” the guard, S. Krishnan, said.

The guard has been authorised to allow the tea vendors and two-wheeler stand staff to make use of the vending machine. “After all, they help the passengers,” he noted.

Alms-seekers story

For small shopkeepers, the people who fall back on alms-seeking for their livelihood are a source of coins.

While the general perception is that alms-seekers sell the coins for a commission, a few of them who are seen near the Sri Subramaniaswamy Temple at Tirupparankundram have a different story.

Subramanian, who has been around for four decades, says he earns around Rs. 50 to Rs. 100 a day. But the collection is very poor on Wednesdays and Thursdays. “I have to make up for those two days with the five days’ collection,” he added.

Many alms-givers come with currency notes. “They hand over Rs. 10 or Rs. 20 and ask us to share the money amongst ourselves. The coins are mostly spent on tea and food as the shopkeepers request us to give them only coins,” he adds.

Murugesan, who also subsists on alms, says he has to spend more these days. “Apart from tea and beedis, I have to spend Rs. 10 for bathing and Rs. 5 each time I use the toilet,” he points out.

They sleep on the pavements, but when it rains, it costs them Rs. 40 each to find shelter.
