Radha Sreevaran and her husband had just stepped into the two-tier AC compartment on a train at the Bangalore City railway station last week when three men offered to help them with their luggage. Soon after, the couple realised that Mr. Sreevaran’s mobile phone was missing from his pocket.“It was just about five seconds after they left the compartment that we realised the phone was missing. The three men were wearing uniforms and looked like cleaners. The phone had been gifted to my husband exactly a month ago,” said Ms. Sreevaran, recounting the theft.The cleaners were later summoned by the ticket collector (TC) on the train and Ms. Sreevaran recognised two of them. She filed a complaint with the Bangarpet police, where the train stopped next, and the two men were detained by the police for questioning.The police are yet to ascertain whether the men were indeed involved in the theft.There have been several incidents like this at the City railway station, be it on trains or on the railway platforms. Passengers have complained of losing their luggage, laptops, wallets and briefcases.Some months ago, an NRI lodged a complaint with the railway police after losing his briefcase, containing foreign currencies among other valuables. He too fell prey to an attention diversion tactic. “A man drew my attention to a Rs. 10 note fallen near the ticket counter while I was speaking on the mobile phone. Unconsciously, I bent to pick up the note. When I turned around, my luggage was missing.”The Government Railway Police (GRP) at the City railway station has registered 164 cases this year so far. These include 15 in August and seven in September so far. Picking pockets and suitcase lifting accounted for most cases. About 56 cases pertained to theft while eight were cases of chain-snatching.So far this year, 35 arrests have been made and 22 high-end mobile phones recovered.In 2012, 213 cases were registered.However, these figures may only be a fraction of the actual crimes, as many go unreported. “Not all passengers come forward to file a complaint,” a Railway police official said.

COIMBATORE: Apprehensive about the proposed 15% hike in railway freight tariff from October 1, representatives from various industries in Coimbatore feel that the burden will be too much for them to bear. "The hike has come at a most inopportune time when the entire industrial scenario is down due to factors such as economic slowdown and lack of orders," Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA) president R Ramachandran said. Since industries in the region are going through one of the most difficult times, he urged the government to reverse the proposal."Diesel prices are being hiked on a regular basis and the proposed hike in railway freight tariff will be damaging to industry," he said. Industries are finding it difficult to work out the costs for their products due to these factors. According to him, the proposed hike is contrary to the efforts taken by the same government to implement various measures to boost the growth of MSMEs in the country. "Under these circumstances, chances for cost-cutting seem to be remote and ultimately the added costs are transferred to the consumers," he added.Representatives from MSMEs say that the proposed hike has come as a rude shock to them. "Government has now pushed us into yet another crisis and it will be difficult for the MSMEs to stay competitive," district president of Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Micro Enterprises (TACT) J James said. Manufacturers here are mostly dependent on rail for transporting raw materials from northern states to Coimbatore and sending the finished goods to various markets.

"We are already struggling to compete against products made in northern states due to price difference and the proposed hike will have a telling effect on MSMEs here," said James. At a time when the price rise of most products affect the common man, it is feared that the proposed hike in railway freight tariff is expected to result in further increase in prices of commodities. "Such revision of tariff should be announced only in the railway budget and this is not a healthy trend," said K Kathirmathiyon, secretary of Coimbatore Consumer Cause.

The railways has started to revise tariff along the lines of oil companies that hike the prices of fuels regularly. "What is the need for the railway budget when the railways are taking liberty to revise the tariff during the financial year?," he questioned.

प्रतापगढ़। रेलवे स्टेशन पर अब बिजली के लिए कर्मचारियों व यात्रियों को और परेशानी उठानी पड़ेगी। बिजली जाने के थोड़ी देर बाद चलने वाला जनरेटर अब घंटों बाद चलेगा। आरक्षण व सीटीई कार्यालय में यूपीएस लगाए जाने की व्यवस्था की जा रही है।
स्टेशन पर बिजली देने के लिए रेलवे, विद्युत विभाग से बिजली खरीदता है। इसके साथ ही बिजली न रहने पर जनरेटर से विद्युत आपूर्ति की जाती है। खासतौर से आरक्षण काउंटर और सीटीई कार्यालय में विद्युत आपूर्ति जरूरी हो जाती है। कंप्यूटर बंद होते ही जनरेटर चलाने का फरमान आ जाता है। इसका लाभ कई अन्य विभागों के साथ प्रतीक्षालय के यात्रियों को भी मिल जाता है। खर्च बचाने के लिए अब रेलवे आरक्षण काउंटर व सीटीई कार्यालय में यूपीएस लगाने जा रहा है। इसमें लगी बैट्री आरक्षण काउंटर को कम से कम चार घंटे का बैकअप देगी। उधर सीटीई कार्यालय में भी यूपीएस के माध्यम से यात्रियों को ट्रेनों के आने जाने की जानकारी दी जाएगी। इन दोनों कार्यालयों में विद्युत की व्यवस्था सुनिश्चित होने के कारण जनरेटर चलाने की जरूरत बहुत ही कम पड़ेगी। विशेष परिस्थितियों में जनरेटर चलाया जाएगा। इसके चलते अब स्टेशन के अन्य कार्यालयों को बिजली न रहने पर विद्युत आपूर्ति नहीं की जाएगी। यही नहीं प्रतीक्षालय में रुकने वाले यात्रियों को भी इसका लाभ नहीं मिलेगा।

वर्धा: अमरावती - नरखेड रेल्वेगाडी याच आठवड्यात कार्यरत होणार असल्याची माहिती रेल्वे मंत्रालयाद्वारे खासदार दत्ता मेघे यांच्या कार्यालयात प्राप्त झाली आहे. नरखेड-अमरावती हा रेल्वे मार्ग तयार होऊन बराच कालावधी झाला. घोषणा होऊनही या मार्गावर नवीन रेल्वे गाडी सुरू झाली नसल्याने परिसरातील नागरिकांमध्ये असंतोष व्यक्त होत आहे. मात्र, याच रेल्वे अर्थसंकल्पात नवीन गाडीचा समावेश करून ५११५१-५११५२ या क्रमांकाची रेल्वेगाडी आता कार्यान्वित करण्यात येत असल्याची माहिती मंत्रालयाद्वारे देण्यात आली आहे. यासोबतच भुसावळ-अमरावती रेल्वे गाडीही नरखेड स्थानकापर्यंत नेण्यात येणार असल्याचे सांगण्यात आले. रेल्वेमंत्र्यांच्या या घोषणेचे प्रवाशांनी स्वागत केले आहे.

अंबेडकरनगर : रेल मंत्रालय से जिले को मिली मऊ-आनंद बिहार एक्सप्रेस ट्रेन का संचालन रविवार को प्रारंभ हो गया। दिल्ली के लिए चौथी सीधी ट्रेन की घोषणा रेल बजट 2013 में किया गया था। यह ट्रेन सप्ताह में दो दिन चलेगी।
गत वर्ष रेल मंत्रालय ने जिले से दिल्ली तक सीधी ट्रेन सेवा की सौगात की घोषणा की थी। इसीक्रम में रविवार को मऊ आनंद बिहार एक्सप्रेस ट्रेन का शुभारंभ शुरू हो गया। रविवार को ट्रेन का संचालन विशेष रूप से किया गया। अपराह्न करीब चार बजकर 51 मिनट पर ट्रेन अकबरपुर रेलवे स्टेशन पहुंची। दो मिनट के ठहराव के बाद ट्रेन यात्रियों को लेकर गंतव्य के लिए रवाना हो गई। सोमवार से इसका नियमित संचालन होगा। ट्रेन मऊ से सप्ताह के प्रत्येक शनिवार व मंगलवार को चलेगी। उसी दिन अकबरपुर-लखनऊ होते हुए क्रमश: सोमवार एवं बुधवार को प्रात: साढ़े छह बजे आनंद बिहार टर्मिनल पहुंचेगी। इसी तरह आनंद बिहार से सोमवार और शुक्रवार को चलकर क्रमश: मंगलवार व शनिवार को अकबरपुर होकर मऊ पहुंचेगी। अकबरपुर स्टेशन अधीक्षक सत्यनरायन सिंह ने बताया कि एक एसएलआर, एक एसएल आरडी, छह साधारण यान, छह शयन यान, एसी द्वितीय श्रेणी के एक एवं एसी तृतीय श्रेणी के दो कुल 17 बोगी ट्रेन में लगेंगे।

MUMBAI: The bookings for the special air-conditioned trains from Mumbai to Delhi will open from Monday.

To cater to the rush of passengers during the Divali holidays, the Western Railway will run bi-weekly Rajdhani-type AC superfast special trains from Mumbai Central to New Delhi from October 16 to November 27.

Said a WR spokesperson, "The train no 09005 Mumbai Central-New Delhi bi-weekly Rajdhani type AC train will depart from Mumbai Central at 7.45 pm on every Sunday and Wednesday and reach New Delhi at 5.35 pm the next day.""

Similarly, train no 09006 New Delhi-Mumbai Central bi-weekly AC superfast special train will depart from New Delhi at 11.40 pm on every Monday and Thursday and reach Mumbai Central at 9.15 pm the next day. This train will run from October 17 to November 28, the official said.

The train will halt at Borivali, Surat, Vadodara, Ratlam, Bhavani Mandi, Ramgunj Mandi, Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Gangapur city, Hindaun City, Bharatpur and Mathura Jn stations on both the directions.

Union Minister for Railways Mallikarjun Kharge said on Saturday that the new railway projects are getting delayed as the State government is slow in sanctioning funds and acquiring land.

After flagging off the Yeshwantpur-Mangalore-Yeshwantpur16565/16566 Weekly Express, Kharge said that the Union government is quick in implementing the railway projects, but the State government is not able to cope up with the Centre in this regard.

The Centre has taken up 13 new railway projects and some are almost complete. Four more projects will be completed in the next four to five months.

For the new railway project, the State had to release Rs 700 crore, but till now only Rs 50 crore has been released with delay in the acquisition of land to lay the new track.

Mangalore-Kadur railway track laying work has been completed and  it will become functional in another two months. Kottur-Harihar route will start in another three months and Kolar-Chikballapur route has completed trials, he said.

Kharge further said, all the projects which were promised by the Central government have been completed, for women safety, Centre is planning to appoint women constables and inspectors.

NASHIK: The Maharashtra government has urged the Central Railway (CR) to commence work planned for the forthcoming Kumbh Mela in Nashik.  The Office of the Nashik Divisional Commissioner has sent a letter to the CR, urging it to undertake Kumbh-related works at the earliest. The state has also urged the CR to start a permanent reservation counter at Trimbakeshwar town and begin construction work of platforms 4 and 5 at the Nashik Road Railway station.

With just 19 months left for the Kumbh Mela scheduled in 2015-16, the Maharashtra government has already twice asked the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) and the Public Works Department (PWD) to commence infrastructure work related to the Kumbh, given that such work will require 18 to 20 months to be completed.

“Follow-ups pertaining to Kumbh work are being done regularly,” divisional revenue commissioner Ravindra Jadhav told on Saturday.

In its last Mumbai meeting, the High Power Committee for Kumbh had in principle approved a Rs.2,297-crore Kumbh plan for all government departments, including Rs 1,031.91 crore for the NMC, Rs.654.21 crore for the PWD, Rs.80.76 crore for the Water Resources Department WRD and Rs.25.75 crore for the Railways. The plan will soon be presented to the apex committee of the state government, chaired by chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, for approval.

With a view to provide safety to the road users and to avoid accidents at unmanned Level Crossings, East Coast Railway has taken step to construct Limited Height Sub-way (LHS) near Unmanned Level Crossings in most of the places under its jurisdiction by closing Unmanned Level Crossings.          As a result, the road users will not detain at the Level Crossings till passing of the trains and also the train movement will not be delayed.          As a part of this, the Sambalpur Division of East Coast Railway has commissioned a LHS between Sambalpur City and Maneswar Stations yesterday which has taken o­nly six hours for its installation. The earth under the track was removed by machine and the readymade concrete bridge of 11 feet height and width was placed by a big crane.          The Division has taken Traffic Block between these stations and trains supposed to pass were short terminated from intermediate stations and rescheduled from the originating stations.          Shri Devraj panda, Divisional Railway Manager of Sambalpur Division actively participated in this major safety related work and ensured completion of this work in the specific time, so that, train movements will not be disrupted.
