MADURAI: The train schedule on Dindigul-Palani section has been altered to accommodate the recently introduced Palani-Chennai Central daily express. According to a statement from the Madurai railway division, timings of a few trains have been changed with effect from October 2.While 56776 Dindigul-Palani passenger will leave Dindigul at 4.20pm instead of 4.30pm and reach Palani at 5.40pm. Dindigul - Palani passenger (56774) will leave Dindigul at 3.15pm, instead of 3.20pm and reach Palani at 4.40pm. Palani-Madurai passenger (56709) will leave Palani at 5pm and reach Madurai at 8.15pm. Dindigul-Palani passenger (56772) and Palani-Dindigul passenger (56775) have been cancelled. |

MANGALORE: Due to non-interlocked working at Shoranur, there will be a five hour block on the route for signal remodelling work from 9.15am to 2.15pm on October 3 and 4. Consequently trains on the Mangalore route towards Kerala and Chennai would be regulated from 45 minutes to three hours. There will also be partial cancellation of some trains. The trains that will be regulated on Thursday are: Train 16649 Mangalore Central - Nagarcoil Parasuram Express will be regulated enroute for 240 minutes; Train 16650 Nagarcoil - Mangalore Central Parasuram Express will be regulated in Thiruvananthapuram Division for 45 minutes; Train 16345 Lokmanya Tilak - Thiruvananthapuram Central Netravathi Express to be regulated enroute for 175 minutes. |

In the face of rising incidence of loot of passengers after drugging them, the East Coast Railways (ECoR) has launched a massive awareness programme among rail users and travellers.The RPF unit of Khurda Road Division conducted a programme at Berhampur railway station and distributed info-leaflets to passengers making them aware on activities of drug peddlers, snatchers and robbers moving in trains and stations.A mock rescue of a passenger drugged by miscreants in a train was also demonstrated. A street play ‘Bhul Hoigala’ was also presented, educating people how miscreants befriend innocent passengers, offer intoxicated eatable items and then loot them. The Railway security force has urged passengers not to take food, drinks and prasad which may have intoxicating elements from any co-passenger. It has also asked people not to buy railway tickets from the touts or any unauthorised agent.Passengers have been advised to immediately inform security personnel if they suspect the activities of anybody as well as unclaimed luggage in trains and platforms. |

Minister of State for Railways K Surya Jaya Prakash Reddy called on Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh on Wednesday.They had detailed discussion regarding strengthening of Railway Network in the State and also regarding expediting work on Railways projects being commissioned in the State.The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister said that Railways should look into the possibility of alternative route to link Baddi area with railway network, as it was very important keeping in view of the upcoming industrial and commercial complexes in Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh areas.Virbhadra Singh said that Bilaspur-Bhanupalli-Berri Railway Line should be taken up at earliest as the State Government would provide free Government land for this.He said that work on Nangal-Talwara Railway Line should be expedited as only 44 kms. Railway track has been constructed on this line from Nangal to Amb during last 33 years. |

Amritsar:A long-pending demand of the Sikh community residing in and around Nainital was today met as the weekly Amritsar-Lal Kuan AC Express was flagged off by Raj Kumar Verka, Vice-Chairman, National SC/ST Commission today.Nainital, also famous as Lake District of Uttarakhand, is about 25 km from Lal Kuan, one of its nagar panchayats.In all, 120 passengers boarded the train on its maiden run. The train would reach its destination via Chandigarh. Thus, the holy city also got its second train link with the state capital.The train has 18 coaches, including 13 AC 3-tier coaches, three AC chair car and two generator coaches. The fare will be Rs 850 and Rs 680 for AC 3-tier and chair car travel from Amritsar to Lal Kuan.It will depart from Amritsar at 5.55 am every Wednesday. Halting at Chandigarh at 10.20 am, it will reach Lal Kuan at 8.50 pm. En route Lal Kuan, it will halt at Beas, Jalandhar City, Phagwara, Ludhiana, New Morinda, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Chandigarh, Ambala Cantt, Jagadhari, Saharanpur, Roorkee, Laksar, Nazibabad, Moradabad and Kashipur .The train will leave Lal Kuan the same day at 11.15 pm, reach Chandigarh at 9 am the next day and Amritsar at 2.45 pm. |
