The 12-member delegation of Lok Sabha Committee on Estimate that arrived here yesterday met top officials of various Government Departments of Manipur including Ministry of Textiles on Monday to discuss various Central sponsored projects, especially Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal rail link undertaken in the state.State Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga and other top officials of various Government Departments including Forest, Transport, Revenue and Commerce and Industries attended the meeting held at Hotel Classic here.The meeting discussed various projects now undertaken in the state under the sponsorship of the Central Government, but prominently the Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal rail line and performance of North East Frontier Railways (NEFR), official sources said.The Lok Sabha Committee on Estimate also gathered a detailed report from the officials of Ministry of Textiles on Manipur’s textile projects funded by the Centre and enquired about further requirements of these projects during the meeting.“We emphasize on the railway project during the meeting,” Francisco Sardinha, chairman of the committee told newsmen after the meeting.Fransico further said coordination among various Government Departments of the state is needed to meet the 2016 target set to complete the railway project. |

यार्डात जाताना एक्सप्रेस गाडीचा डबा महालक्ष्मी स्टेशन जवळ घसरल्यामुळे पहाटे सव्वाचारपासूनच पश्चिम रेल्वेची वाहतूक विस्कळीत झाली आहे. बोरिवली-चर्चगेट दरम्यान अप आणि डाऊन मार्गाला या दुर्घटनेचा फटका बसला. सकाळी सातच्या सुमारास डबा रुळावरुन दूर करण्यात आला. त्यानंतर वाहतूक सुरळीत करण्यासाठी प्रयत्न सुरू झाले आहेत. लवकरच वाहतूक सुरळीत होईल, असे आश्वासन पश्चिम रेल्वेच्या अधिका-यांनी दिले. |

Two stone idols were found abandoned in one of the unreserved coaches of the Tirunelveli-Mayiladuthurai passenger train at Mayiladuthurai Junction on Sunday night.The idols were found inside a sack ducked under one of the single seats of a compartment.A Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable and a railway staff noticed the abandoned idols inside the sack while checking the coaches after passengers alighted from the train.One of the idols was of Lord Saneeswara , while the other was that of an Amman . The idols were brought to the RPF post at Mayiladuthurai and handed over to revenue officials, railway sources said. |

IMPHAL: A team of the estimate committee of Parliament comprising 12 MPs landed in Imphal on Sunday to study the progress of the ongoing Jiribam-Imphal rail project and the development of the textile industry in the state.Led by Francisco Sardinha, the team will acquire a detailed report from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on planning, implementation and performance of the rail project.Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had in November 2004 laid the foundation stone of the rail project connecting Manipur's Jiribam subdivision bordering Assam and Tupul in Tamenglong district.Later, the project was extended to Imphal and there is a plan to further extend it up to Moreh to connect the region with Myanmar and other Southeast Asian countries.During a plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) held recently in New Delhi, chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh urged the railway authorities to deploy more manpower and equipment and take early steps to ensure completion of the Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal railway by 2017. Earlier, the completion target was extended from 2016 to 2017. |
