NAGPUR: The Bombay High Court has issued notices to the Railway Minister and the senior personnel officer of South East Central Railway seeking reply on a petition regarding sports quota recruitment. The Nagpur bench of justices Vasanti Naik and Atul Chandurkar, which heard the petition last week, sought the replies within two weeks.

Petitioner Nagpur District Football Association has objected to a condition for recruitment of sportspersons as per the 2002 policy framed by the SECR. The condition requires that a candidate, to qualify for sports quota, must have actually played and merely being a part of the team would not suffice.

The Railways had issued an advertisement for recruitment in the sports quota last August.

Petitioner’s lawyer advocate Virat Mishra argued that the condition violates sportsperson’s fundamental rights and should be set aside.

Angirekula Vara Prasad Yadav has been elected by members of the Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC) of Guntur division to represent at the Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) of South Central Railway for a period of two years.

Mr. Yadav thanked Guntur MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, Narsaraopet MP Modugula Venugopala Reddy and Nandyal MP S.P.Y. Reddy and assured that he would take up the issues relating to railway passengers. Mr. Yadav also demanded that the railways should commence the operation of Jan Vihar, a canteen where food and other beverages would be available at lower prices.

A. Sampath, MP, will inaugurate a fast by elected representatives on Tuesday in protest against the alleged neglect of the Chirayinkeezhu railway station. The fast, to be held in front of the office of the Divisional Railway Manager here from 10 a.m., will be attended by MLAs and block and grama panchayat representatives. — Staff Reporter

Train 12508/12507 Guwahati–Ernakulam-Guwahati Weekly Express will run via Kottayam up to Thiruvananthapuram Central from Tuesday.

The first extended service of Train 12507 will leave Thiruvananthapuram Central on October 1, according to the railways. The first extended service of Train 12508 will leave Guwahati on October 4.

Raptisagar Express

Train 12522 Ernakulam-Barauni Raptisagar express to leave Ernakulam on October 4 will be diverted via Lucknow-Faizabad-Shaganj for yard remodelling work at Gorakhpur, Railways said.

Southern Railway will take up a cleanliness campaign at 46 stations under the Thiruvananthapuram division, including Thiruvanantha puram Central, with the active support of NSS college units on October 2. Volunteers of the NSS units will take up the work from 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 noon, the railways said.

सैदपुर (गाजीपुर) : रावल गांव के विजय बहादुर राम की समझदारी से सोमवार की सुबह बड़ा हादसा टल गया। चटकी रेल पटरी देख उन्होंने आनन-फानन लाल गमछा दिखाकर मालगाड़ी रोक दी।
विजयबहादुर सुबह शौच के लिए निकले। वह रावल रेलवे गेट की ओर जा रहे थे कि तभी उनकी नजर रेलवे गेट के पूरब ओर टूटी रेलवे पटरी पर पड़ी। इसी बीच मालगाड़ी आती दिखाई पड़ गई। उन्होंने बिना समय गंवाये लाल गमछे की व्यवस्था की और चालक को दिखा कर रुकने का इशारा किया। चालक संतोष ने तत्काल ट्रेन रोक दी, नीचे आकर देखा तो पटरी बीच से अलग हो चुकी थी। इसके बाद संतोष ने स्टेशन मास्टर रवींद्र प्रसाद को जानकारी दी। स्टेशन मास्टर की सूचना पर पीडब्ल्यूवाई दिवाकर कर्मचारियों के साथ पहुंचे और टूटी पटरी की मरम्मत कराई। तब जाकर आवागमन सुचारु रूप से शुरू हुआ। स्टेशन मास्टर ने बताया कि ग्रामीण की मुस्तैदी से हादसा होने से बच गया।

Southern Railway is introducing a daily service between Chennai Central and Palani starting October 1.

A press release said the inaugural special train No. 06002 will leave Palani at 16:00 hours on October 1 and arrive in Chennai Central at 02.30 hours. The regular service of the train No.16001 Chennai Central – Palani daily express will commence on October 1, and that of train No. 16002 Palani – Chennai Central will commence on October 2.Train No. 16001 Chennai Central – Palani daily express will leave Chennai Central at 21:00 hours and arrive in Palani at 8:00 hours the next day.Train 16002 Palani – Chennai Central Express will leave Palani at 18:00 hours and arrive at Chennai Central at 04:50 hours the next day. The composition of the train will be 1 AC 2-tier, 1 AC 3-tier, 7 Sleeper Class, 6 General Second Class and 2 Luggage-cum-break van coaches. The trains will stop at Arakonnam, Katpadi, Gudiyattam, Jolarpettai, Salem, Rasipuram, Namakkal, Karur, Dindigul, Akkaraipatti, Oddanchatram and Chatrappatti. Train no. 16002 will stop at Perambur too.

The RoB constructed near the Bolgatty-Vallarpadom bridge which was closed down an year ago following damage is yet to be thrown open to the public.

The bridge was built by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) exclusively for the movement of container lorries to reduce the increasing  rush of vehicles in the area. With many vehicles using the stretch to reach Vypeen, Vallarpadom, Puthuvype and Kodangaloor, it was necessary to construct an alternative route which resulted in the commissioning of the bridge in November.

However, just a few days after the bridge was opened for a trial run, it suffered severe damages, leaving the NHAI with no other choice but to close it down.

The unsettling of the soil on the approach road led to the dislocation of a slab connecting it to the main bridge.

District Collector P I Sheikh Pareeth who had taken the initiative to study the initial damage reports said that the NHAI is still sitting over the repair work of the bridge.

Residents in the area said the bridge if thrown open would be a major relief since it could help prevent the congestion of container vehicles along the Bolgatty-Vallarpadom bridge during the peak hours.

This bridge would help reduce the traffic bottlenecks whenever Railway freight is brought to the Vallarpadom Terminal.

“Currently, we are forced to deploy extra police personnel to man the traffic bottleneck whenever freight movement takes place in the area. The arrival of a single freight itself leads to heavy traffic congestion and traffic block is witnessed for nearly an hour on some days,” said a police official.

However, speaking on the repair works which are to be carried out on the bridge, NHAI Project Director C T Abraham said that if the bridge is to  prove useful again, they have to extend the length of the bridge.

“This procedure will take much time. We had assigned NIT Kozhikode to conduct a study on the rectifications that need to be made to make the bridge useful. They have suggested that we need to extend the bridge by 136 metres, so the depth of the bridge and the approach road won’t be much different. This is a difficult task and would require some time,” he said.

कूचबिहार, जागरण प्रतिनिधि : अप उत्तर बंग एक्सप्रेस ट्रेन के स्लीपर क्लास की बोगी के बाथरूम से सोमवार को छह माह की कन्या शिशु पड़ी मिली। ट्रेन में सवार यात्रियों ने इसकी सूचना रेल पुलिस को दी। रेल पुलिस ने गंभीर रूप से घायल बच्ची को स्थानीय एमजेएन अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया। उसकी देखभाल की जिम्मेदारी कूचबिहार चाइल्ड लाइन ने ली है। न्यू-कूचबिहार में जीआरपी के ओसी महेन्द्र राय ने बताया कि आमबाड़ी -फालाकाटा स्टेशन के पास आरक्षित बोगी के बाथरूम में पड़ी मिली। इस संबंध में न्यू-जलपाईगुड़ी स्टेशन को भी अवगत कराया जा रहा है। प्रारंभिक जांच में पुलिस का अनुमान है कि पालन पोषण करने में असमर्थ माता-पिता ही बच्ची को बाथरूम में छोड़कर गायब हो गए। आरक्षित बोगी से ही जिला बाल विकास परियोजना अधिकारी काजी रहूल आमीन भी लौट रहे थे। उन्होंने बताया कि स्थानीय एबीएन शील कॉलेज की एक अध्यापिका ने इस बच्ची को कमरे के बाथरूम में पड़ा पाया। बच्ची के तन पर गंजी व लाल रंग की लंगोटी थी। बाथरूम में देर से पड़े होने से वह पूरी तरह से भीग चुकी थी। यात्रियों ने ही बच्ची के कपड़े बदलकर दूसरे कपड़े पहनाए। न्यू-कूचबिहार में स्टेशन पर उतरते ही बच्ची को जीआरपी को सौंप दिया गया। चाइल्ड लाइन के कर्मी चंद्र दास घोष, संजय मल्लिक प्रमुख ने बताया कि बच्ची के मिलने की खबर मिलने पर वे न्यू-कूचबिहार स्टेशन पर पहुंचे। जहां से बच्ची को एमजेएन अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया। स्वस्थ होने पर उसे जिला चाइल्ड वेलफेयर कमेटी के समक्ष पेश किया जाएगा। अस्पताल सूत्रों के मुताबिक लंबे समय से पानी में भीगने से बच्ची को सांस लेने में दिक्कत हो रही है। इसलिए उसे आक्सीजन देना पड़ रहा है। बच्ची के सिर पर चोट के निशान थे। इसी वजह से सिर का सिटी स्कैन किया गया है। अस्पताल में बच्ची का नामकरण अनामिका के नाम से किया गया है।नागरकाटा सूत्र के अनुसार एनएफ रेलवे के अलीपुरद्वार डिवीजन के डीआरएम वीरेंदर कुमार ने छह माह की बच्ची को ट्रेन में परित्यक्त अवस्था में छोड़े जाने की घटना को निंदनीय कृत्य बताया है। उन्होंने कहा कि उन्हें यह जानकर हैरत और दुख हुआ है कि आज भी समाज में ऐसे लोग हैं जो बेटियों से इस तरह का क्रूर व्यवहार करते हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि बच्ची के मिलते ही रेलवे के चिकित्सक ने उसकी स्वास्थ्य जांच की और उसे दूध पिलाया गया। फिलहाल उसे चाइल्ड वेलफेयर सोसाइटी को सौंप दिया गया है।
