Fares to be charged for MP’s first Double Decker Express caused an embarrassing situation for minister of state for railways Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary who accepted that the fares set by the railways officials are not practical and would be amended in future.The railways charge Rs 290 for seven- km distance between Habibganj and Bhopal for travelling on the train. Surprisingly, the same fare is being charged for 149- km distance between Habibganj and Maksi railway station.In a press conference, Chaudhary said this was not practical and he would talk to the railway officials in that regard. The train was run on trial basis. So, the official sources said charges were fixed on the basis of the railway rules and minimum fare for 150- km journey on an airconditioned train.The railway will charge Rs 355 for 224- km distance between Habibganj and Indore for travelling via Maksi- Dewas and Rs 390 for 263- km distance via Ujjain.The minister said the financial condition of the railways does not permit it to run this train on the basis of different fares. Despite that, the UPA government launched several projects.In the last budget, 19 new trains which pass through Madhya Pradesh were run. Also, projects worth Rs 4,000 crore are in operation in MP.

Railway MoS walks out of press conference::Minister of state for railways Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary left the press conference venue at MP Congress Committee office in an abrupt manner after he was asked about arrest warrant issued against him by local court in West Bengal on the charges of murder of Trinmool Congress worker.The minister only said, ” The previous CPM government framed several false cases against me and I have been acquitted of all cases and now the present government of Trinmool Congress has filed false case against me.” As per the report, the court issued arrest warrant against the minister for murder of one Qalam Shaikh, a Trinmool Congress worker in the 2011.When asked about the charge, the minister was shocked and stood up from the chair. He ended his press conference and immediately left the party office. Chaudhary is MP from Baharampur constituency. RPF staff escorted the minister.

Denouncing the railway freight tariff hike as a measure that would accelerate inflation and further affect the economy and people, Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa today urged the Centre to immediately withdraw the increase.“At a time when inflation is skyrocketing due to continuous increase in the price of petroleum products, the hike in railway freight tariff by the Centre is akin to adding fuel to fire,” Miss Jayalalithaa said in a statement here.Criticising the 'dynamic pricing policy' being followed by the Centre in classifying railway freight tariff under ' busy and lean season' categories, she said the classification was artificial and unjustified.“Due to the hike in tariff, the price of all essential commodities and raw materials for industries like cement, coal and iron will increase.”When the cost of food products is already witnessing a continuous increase, the hike in railway tariff will have a spiraling effect and lead to further inflation, she said.

Railway Minister M. Mallikarjuna Kharge on Saturday urged the State government to hasten acquisition process of Binny Mill land abutting the City Railway Station so that the Railways can make a beginning with the Commuter Rail System (CRS) for Bangalore.Speaking after flagging off the Yeshwanthpur-Mangalore Weekly Express here, Mr. Kharge said the Railways has already parted with its land to facilitate construction of the Okalipura signal-free corridor. Now it is for the State to reciprocate and complete the process of exchange of land. The government has already issued the final acquisition notification and the formality of handing over it to the railways is remaining, he said.Citing Saint Kabir, who said whatever is to be done tomorrow is to be done today and what is to be done today should be done immediately, he asked the government to do the job immediately. The three-acre 16 gunta Binny Mill land could help the Railways to expand the City Station operations and introduce more trains besides catering to the requirement of the CRS, he said.Speaking earlier, Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, who represents Gandhinagar constituency in which the City Railway Station falls, urged Mr. Kharge to upgrade the station to world-class standards. Bangalore is an international city and requires world-class station too, he said. Mr. Rao also urged Mr. Kharge to commence CRS in association with the State government.

Voicing the concern of railway colony residents, who are also his voters, Mr. Rao urged the Minister to get a sophisticated community hall constructed for the residents. The existing one is not in a good condition and a new one is required for family and social functions of the residents, the Minister said.

The Ministry of Railways has decided to introduce two new trains viz. Secunderabad – Hubli – Secunderabad Tri Weekly Express & H.S. Nanded – Nangaldam – H.S.Nanded Weekly Superfast Expressas per the following schedule:-

Train No. 17320/17319 Secunderabad – Hubli – Secunderabad Tri Weekly Express
Train No. 17320 Secunderabad – Hubli Tri Weekly Express will depart Secunderabad at16 00 hrs o­n every Monday, Thursday and Saturday with effect from 3rdOctober 2013 and arrive Hubli at 07.50 hrs o­n the next day.

In the return direction, Train No. 17319 Hubli – Secunderabad Tri Weekly Express will depart Hubli at 20.50 hrs o­n every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday with effect from 4th October 2013 and arrive Secunderabad at 11.45 hrs o­n the next day.

Enroute, this train will stop at Begumpet, Lingampalli, Vikarabad, Tandur, Sedam, Chittapur, Wadi, Gulbarga, Ganagapur Road, Hotgi, Indi Road, Bijapur, Basabanabagewadi Road, Almatti, Bagalkot, Badami, Hole Alur, Gadag and Annigeri stations in both directions.

The Train will comprise of 16 coaches viz, o­ne AC II Tier, o­ne AC III Tier, six Sleeper Class, six General Second Class and two Luggage cum Brake Van Coaches.

The inaugural service will flagged off by Hon’ble Minister for Railways o­n 2nd October 2013 at Hubli. The inaugural Train No.07319 Express will depart Hubli at 12.00 hrs o­n 2nd October 2013 and arrive Secunderabad at 03.30 hrs the next day.

Train No. 22457 H.S.Nanded – Nangaldam Weekly Superfast Express will depart H.S.Nanded at 11.00 hrs every Saturday with effect from 5th October 2013 and arrive Nangaldam at 20.25 hrs o­n the next day.

In the opposite direction, Train No. 22458 Nangaldam – H.S.Nanded Weekly Superfast Express will depart Nangaldam at 16.20 hrs every Thursday with effect from 3rdOctober 2013 and arrive H.S.Nanded at 23.45 hrs o­n the next day.

Enroute, this train will stop at Purna, Basmat, Hingoli, Washim, Akola, Malkapur, Khandwa, Itarsi, Habibgunj, Bhopal, Bina, Jhansi, Gwalior, Agra Cantt., Mathura, New Delhi, Panipat, Ambala Cantt., Chandigarh, Sahibzadar Ajitsingh Nagar (Mohali), Roopnagar and Anandapur Sahab in both directions.

After filming in Chennai, China and Kodaikanal, we hear the director is waiting for permission to shoot at one of his favourite locations — the railway station! A source in the know tells us that Shankar is planning to can an important sequence in a train for about 15 days, and is waiting for the officials to grant him permission. Even as the team gears up to shoot this sequence, we take a look at some of the memorable train sequences that have featured in Shankar's films, right from Gentleman to Nanban.

Gentleman Who can forget the peppy dance number, Chikku Bukku Chikku Bukku Rayilu, which had Prabhu Dheva and Gauthami matching steps to Rahman's tunes? The number was shot prominently at a railway station, and also had the duo dancing inside a local train.

Jeans One of the many romantic sequences in this Prashanth-Aishwarya Rai-starrer features the pair in a railway station. The sequence in which Ramu meets Vaishnavi for the first time at the station and is in awe of her 'traditional look' is still fresh in the memory of fans of the Ulaga Azhagi.

Anniyan Shankar has laced both humour and action elements in this sequence. While Ambi's antics with Chari and his attempts to profess his love to Nandhini inside the train makes you double with laughter, the latter half of the sequence involving the railway canteen is a prelude to the rise of Anniyan.

Sivaji Rajinikanth might have had a 'phata poster nikla hero' moment in the film when he fights goons at a drive-in theatre. Endhiran One of the most remembered sequences in this sci-fi is the action scene involving Chitti in a train. As the goons try to misbehave with Sana, Chitti uses everything in the train — from seats to holders — to attack them. What's more, he also roller skates on the tracks!

Nanban After painting a truck for a song in Anniyan, Shankar chose a train for his Nanban. For the Aska Laska number, the director got his team to paint graffiti works on a train. The last sequence of the song, featuring Vijay and Ileana, was canned with this train in the backdrop.

MUMBAI: Under construction for a decade, the much-delayed Santa Cruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) will finally be open for motorists by December. With the agencies involved in the execution of the work launching girders to connect the bridge above the railway tracks in Kurla in October-November, the project is expected to be completed by December."We plan to undertake launching of the girder scheme from October 20; it will take 21 days. If the railways approves our request for a block, work on the flyover can be completed by December," said Dilip Kawathakar, spokesperson for MMRDA, the nodal agency for project.As railway services cannot be stalled for this work, the agencies have sought a one-and-a-half hour block daily post-midnight when trains do not operate. The block has been sought for one-and-half hour every day.During this period, timings and schedule of a few mail/express trains arriving in Mumbai on the Central Railway will be revised.The 6.54-km-long SCLR comprises of a double-decker flyover with the top deck catering to traffic between Amar Mahal junction on Eastern Express Highway and Western Express Highway atVakola junction via Kalina. The lower deck will provide connectivity between Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Kurla Diary in Nehru Nagar from Kalina.

The double-decker link road project, which is being implemented by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), is part of the World Bank-funded Mumbai Urban Transport Project. Besides providing the crucial east-west connectivity, the SCLR thus save commute time between the eastern and western suburbs. It

will also help decongest the existing stretch near Sion-Circle and Kalanagar as vehicles have to take a detour via Sion-Dharavi Link Road to go from Eastern Express Highway to Western Express Highway and vice-versa.

A decade after the work began in 2003, the cost of the project has increased from an estimated Rs 115 crore to Rs 435 crore. The project has missed several deadlines due to poor execution, relief and rehabilitation-related issues, land acquisition and approval of drawings and designs for bridge from railways.

To compliment the SCLR, the MMRDA has also drawn up plans to build two more flyovers as the traffic flow is expected to increase on the stretch between Kalina and CST road near Kurla.

One flyover will come up between Bandra-Kurla and CST Road, while another be from Kalina University junction to CST bridge. The existing 40-m-long and 30-m-wide CST bridge will be remodelled and made 100m long and 45m wide.

NEW DELHI: A man was arrested on aturday for sealing Rs 4.7 lakh from the bag of a traveller in Metro train here, police said. The stolen money was recovered.Gajaba, 30, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station in the morning soon after the victim, in his 50s, raised an alarm, police said.Police have recovered Rs 4.7 lakh from Gajaba's bag which he stole from the passenger going towards Uttam Nagar from Seelampur."A victim boarded the Metro from Kashmiri Gate. As he reached Rajiv Chowk he found the cash which he had kept in his bag was missing. He started shouting and police deployed at the station arrested Gajaba," a police officer told IANS.Gajaba told police that he worked in a group with three other people.They identified a target in the Metro and followed him or her. The gang members surrounded the target and one of them would use a blade to slash open the target's bag and take away cash or valuables, police said.Police have launched a search to nab Gajaba's accomplices.
