VADODARA: Sixteen trains were cancelled by the railways on Wednesday due to waterlogging between Vadodara and Bharuch railway stations. Several other trains were diverted, partially cancelled or rescheduled.A release by Vadodara division of Western Railway stated that five trains were partially cancelled, while five others were rescheduled. Four trains were short-terminated at stations much before their destinations even as nine others were diverted.The division also announced that Vadodara-Bhilad (19114), Valsad-Dahod (12929), Valsad-Ahmedabad (19109) and Mumbai-Ferozepur (19023) trains would remain cancelled Thursday. The division has also started a helpline number (0265-2362012) to give information regarding the trains. |

MANGALORE: Konkan Railway will operate AC Super Fast special trains between Ahmedabad and Mangalore on a weekly basis during Diwali Festival to clear extra rush of passengers.The Ahmedabad - Mangalore Special train 09420 will run on every Wednesday from October 16 to November 27 with a total of seven trips. The train will leave from Ahmedabad at 4.35pm and will reach Mangalore at 7.40 pm next day. This time table is applicable up to October 31 of monsoon time table. From November 1 onwards during the non monsoon Time Table, the train will leave from Ahmedabad at 4.35 pm and will reach at Mangalore at 7.05 pm on next day.Train 09419 Mangalore - Ahmedabad Special train will run every Thursday from October 17 to November 28, again with a total of seven trips. The train will leave from Mangalore at 10.30 pm and reach Ahmedabad at 12.50 am on third day up to October 31. From November 1 onwards, the train will leave from Mangalore at 10.30pm and reach Ahmedabad at 23.15 pm on second day. |

Chandigarh: From next week, the city will be connected to Lalkuan (Uttarakhand), Shridi and Hazur Sahib by rail as the Northern Railway has finalised the schedule of these trains from the Chandigarh station. According to the schedule, the train between Amritsar-Lalkuan via Chandigarh will ply from October 2, the Nangal Dam-Anadpur Sahib-Chandigarh-Hazur Sahib (Nanded Express) train from October 3 and Kalka-Chandigarh-Shirdi Express will commence from October 6.The Railways has decided to run a new weekly air-conditioned express train (number 14605 and 14606) between Amritsar-Lalkuan-Amritsar on every Wednesday from both directions.The 14606 weekly AC express train will depart from Amritsar at 05.55 am every Wednesday and reach Lalkuan at 08.50 pm. In the return journey, the 14605 Lalkuan-Amritsar weekly AC express train will depart from Lalkuan at 11.15 pm and reach Amritsar at 02.45 pm the next day.A spokesperson for Northern Railway said the trains would have halts at Beas, Jalandhar city, Phagwara, Ludhiana, New Morinda, Sahibzada Ajitsingh Nagar, Chandigarh, Ambala Cantt, Jagadhari, Saharanpur, Roorkee, Laksar, Najibabad, Moradabad and Kashipur on both journeys. There will be 16 coaches, includiing 13 AC III tier coaches and three AC chair car coaches. |

Railways plans to induct high power locomotives to carry more goods at higher speed as part of its technological upgrading programme.According to the plan, the national transporter has produced the prototype 5500 horsepower (HP) diesel locomotives which are already running as a pilot project in North Central Railway.Known as 5500 HP WDG5, the high power locomotive is being developed by Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) at Varanasi, a production unit of Railways.There will be more such high power locomotives manufactured at the DLW in future, said a senior Railway Ministry official.The 5500 HP WDG5 is primarily aimed at improving the capacity with higher balancing speed. The locomotive is equipped with advanced technology such as electronic fuel injection (for higher fuel efficiency and emission control) to run at 100 km per hour speed higher axle load.DLW's locomotive designs implement collision protection, provision for heating, ventilation and air conditioning and improved visibility thereby setting up new standards for crew comport and safety.Currently, DLW manufactures locomotives with a wide horsepower range, from 1400 HP to 5500 HP for multiple track gauges.Besides meeting the needs of non-railway customers in India, DLW is exporting locomotives to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Malaysia, Tanzania, Sudan, Senegal, Mozambique and Myanmar.The factory is also manufacturing diesel generator (DG) sets and supplying them to Nuclear Power Corporation India Limited's plants at Kota, Narora, Kaiga and Kalpakkam. |
